Improve Your Writing Skills We know that it’s the experience only which helps a person to decide what is right and what is wrong. However, when I was new to Blogging, most of my posts got rejected. Then I started from some small blogs and later on the process moved on and I became quite good at my writing skills. This is what The more you write, the more you learn. So, to improve our writing skills, we should be focused on our topics, try optimizing our posts for SEO and readers both which a quite hard process. As we all know, blogging can be a lucrative venture . The number of bloggers in Nigeria has tripled over the last two years, thanks to Linda Ikeji’s muti-million mansion, now everybody wants to be a blogger including me. Blogging can be very challenging in Nigeria due to the harsh and unfriendly economic settings of my beloved country. I explore some other challenges bloggers face in Nigeria below: 1.) Lack of basic amenty like electricity:bloggers make use of electronic tools like computer, mobile phones e.t.c. These device require electricity in order to function. Power(electricity) supply in Nigeria is so unstable which makes blogging in Nigeria quite a hurdle. One remedy for this , is to get a portable gasoline generator popularly called “I pass my neigbour”. It is quite affordable and does not consume fuel that much. 2.) Outrageous data charges: network operators in Nigerian provide data to subscribers at very expensive rates. This has made blogging a very expensive venture in Nigeria. Most people can not afford this outrageous data charges. To tackle this problem , bloggers can buy data from genuine and reputable data resellers in Nigeria. In addition to that, bloggers can also check for affordable data plans offered by various network operators. 3.) Poor network service: all the network service providers in Nigeria has done a pretty good job in providing crappy, slow and unstable and mediocre network services. Connecting to the internet, with some network in Nigeria is as diffcult as an elephant passing through the nose of a needle. This is very frustrating for bloggers. At times, I have to climb the orange tree at the back of my house to have access to quality network. Bloggers can check around their area to see which network has got good network coverage and good browsing speed. 4.) What to blog about: this issue has been a serious challenge since the days of Ojuwkwu and Bianca. Most bloggers do not know what to write about, so they end up replicating all the contents on Linda Ikeji’s blog, which is very bad for SEO and site ranking. Moreover, you may never get an adsense approval during the long run . Choose a unique niche, you can blog about animals, love and relationships, even plants. Just choose a niche you have great knowledge of. 5.) Poor site traffic: most Nigerian blogs are great in terms of content but it is sad to note that majority of these blogs has poor traffic. To tackle this problem, bloggers should learn more about SEO(search engine optimization). Bloggers should also learn to share their sites and articles on social media platforms like twitter, facebook. Bloggers should also learn to post original contents to get good google ranking. 6.) Hackers: this problem is not unique to Nigerian blogs alone. Hackers are everywhere and there is a possibility that your website maybe hacked. It is important to always back up your blog and databases incase you get hacked. Even the “almighty Nairaland” too got hacked. Keep your passwords safe and dont forget to use strong and well documented passwords. - See more at: https://www.wikinaija.net/2017/01/major-challenges-blogging/#sthash.CiTHHNcd.dpuf |

Wizkid’s “Daddy Yo” and Runtown’s “Mad Over You” are mad jams in their own right. “Mad Over You” was released in November while “Daddy Yo” came it late December and both songs have proven to be cross border hits. ‘Daddy Yo’ and ‘Mad Over You’ have made debut appearances on the Billboard chart. Both tracks made the cut for Billboard Twitter Top Tracks chart. ‘Daddy Yo’ debuted at number 31 while “Mad Over You” earned a spot number 38 out of the overall 50. While making an appearance on the Billboard is seen as such a big deal, 2017 looks great already for both Wizkid and Runtown. The Billboard appearance is the second for Wizkid and his first independent appearance. Also earlier this week, Wizkid has promised to drop 4 mixtapes this year. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. - See more at: https://www.wikinaija.net/2017/01/wizkids-daddy-yo-runtown/#sthash.bERdCwpU.dpuf

Chairman, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Ekiti State, Mr Rotimi Agbede, has been arraigned in court for allegedly engaging in a fight with other members of the association, on the premises of the state police command. Agbede was arraigned on Wednesday before an Ado Ekiti chief magistrates’ court on a one-count charge of fighting. The police prosecutor, Mr Oriyomi Akinwale, said Agbede was arraigned alongside a member of the union, Olaoye Oba, for exchanging blows at the police headquarters. It was said that Oba, a supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Mr Femi Bamisile, had gone to the police headquarters to report Agbede, who is a supporter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), following a conflict. Oba had written a petition to the police, accusing Agbede of spearheading attacks on APC and other RTEAN members who are supporters of Bamisile, shortly after the aspirant held a political meeting on December 23. The charge sheet reads: “That you, Samuel Agbede and Olaoye Oba on December 23, 2016, at the state police headquarters premises, under Ado Ekiti Magisterial District, did engage yourself in fight. “You, thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 83 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ekiti State 2012.” Agbede pleaded not guilty to the charge after which his lawyer, Tajudeen Lamidi, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms considering his status in the society. Fire gutted the depot of the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) office on Abak road, Uyo yesterday, January 4. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, witnesses say goods worth millions of naira were lost in the inferno. One of the witnesses, Ekong Charles, said the fire started from where the pallets were packed and engulfed the entire packing zone. He said it was the quick intervention of firefighters from the state Fire Service that prevented the fire from spreading to the office complex. His words: “The fire started from where the pallets are packed and the fire service was quickly alerted to control the spread to other buildings. “In fact, it was so serious; if not for the quick intervention of the firefighters it would have consumed the entire depot. “Five trucks of firefighting vehicles were brought to put out the fire.” On his part, the chief fire officer in Akwa Ibom, Ndarake Ukpe, said he had to mobilise firemen from different areas to put out the fire. Ukpe said the cause of the fire was yet unknown, and appealed to residents to be careful in handling inflammable materials during this harmattan period. He also confirmed that no life was lost to the inferno as the place was taken care of by security personnel. “Fire does not just happen, it is caused by carelessness and fake electrical installations in our buildings. “We have organised seminars for people in the markets and advised them to stop storing fuel in their houses. “We are committed to ensuring that our department response to fire calls within record time so that minimal lost is recorded,” Ukpe said. The Economic and Financial Crimes Comm :Pission (EFCC) has discovered new evidence against Esther Oba, a cousin of former First Lady Patience Jonathan. The anti-graft agency began investigating Ms. Oba after revealing that she was the one of the owners of Mrs. Jonathan’s N9b bank accounts. “After we froze Patience Jonathan’s accounts a few months ago, we continued to investigate the former First Lady. We then stumbled on some accounts which did not bear her name but had her signature,” an EFCC source disclosed to Punch Newspaper. “We realized that one Esther Oba, who we believe is Patience’s cousin, had been operating some accounts for her. The accounts had Oba’s BVN but carried Patience’s signature. So we began investigating Oba,” the source explained. The EFCC discovered that Ms. Oba used two separate passports when handling the accounts. Both passports have the same name, but curiously have two separate signatures. The EFCC subsequently contacted the Nigeria Immigration Service, who confirmed that the passports are valid. Despite the confirmation, the EFCC said the two passports would undergo a forensic analysis, as Ms. Oba’s signature and that of Mrs. Jonathan “look exactly alike.” “Immigration confirmed that the two passports are indeed valid. They bear the same name, picture and details but different signatures,” the EFCC source said. “So, they have also launched an investigation into the matter. Obviously, this is a case of fraud.” see full post https://www.wikinaija.net/2017/01/efcc-gathers-fresh/ |

A security guard, Ndubusi Kalu, has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed his friend over N200 in Ogun State. The duo reportedly had a misunderstanding over the deceased, Simeon Chidi’s refusal to provide the said amount as contribution to buy an electric fuse. According to reports, Chidi and Kalu were so close that they cooked and ate together and were preparing a breakfast on Saturday when a disagreement broke out between them over a faulty fuse. The fuse that supplied electricity to five apartments, including the two friends’, had tripped off, causing power outage. The suspect reportedly lamented the outage as he wanted to see a movie when the fault occurred. The five affected residents were said to have agreed to contribute N200 each to pay an electrician, who would fix the fuse. Kalu, 30, said he had asked Chidi to contribute N200 for the repair, but the victim declined. He then allegedly stabbed him with a shard of bottle in the neck and back during the fight, which lasted for about 30 minutes in their residence on Saula Sanni Street, Agbado, area of the state. Kalu was paraded before newsmen on Monday during which he confessed to the crime, blamed it on the devil. Kalu said: “I told him we had to fix the fault on time because I wanted to watch television and relax at home. When we were unable to raise the N1,000, the electrician asked us to pay N500. “When Chidi could not produce the money, saying the money was with somebody and that the person had gone out, he threatened to beat me with a charm if I disturbed him again. “That was how we started exchanging words. He picked a knife and asked me to come outside. - See Full post in link https://www.wikinaija.net/2017/01/killed-friend-n200-ogun-30-year-old-man/#sthash.mrXI0PJ8.dpuf

No fewer than 74 professional journalists and bloggers were killed this year, up till 10 December, in connection with their work, Reporters Without Borders, RSF, said in its latest report. “Some were killed while out reporting. Most were clearly the deliberately targeted victims of deadly violence”, it said in the report called Round Up 2016 . Although the dead journalists were fewer than the 101 recorded in 2015, RSF said the fall was not encouraging because it is due largely to the fact many journalists have fled countries that became too dangerous, especially Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan and Burundi. “These exoduses have created news and information black holes where impunity reigns. “The fall is also the result of the terror imposed by press freedom predators who close media outlets arbitrarily and gag journalists. Regardless of their courage, journalists in countries such as Mexico censor themselves in an attempt to avoid being murdered. Of countries not at war, Mexico was the deadliest for journalists in 2016, with a total of nine killed. “Worldwide, nearly three quarters of the journalists killed in 2016 were deliberately murdered. In Afghanistan, all of the ten journalists who were killed this year were deliberately targeted because of their profession. Seven of them died in a suicide attack in January on a minibus used by privately-owned Tolo TV, an attack claimed by the Taliban. Journalists were also hunted down and slain in Yemen”, the report said. RSF condemned the impunity enjoyed by those who murder journalists and the complicit lack of action by many governments that are often only too ready themselves to trample on media freedom. “The violence against journalists is more and more deliberate,” RSF secretary-general Christophe Deloire said. “They are clearly being targeted and murdered because they are journalists. This alarming situation reflects the glaring failure of the international initiatives aimed at protecting them, and is a death warrant for independent reporting in those areas where all possible means are used to impose censorship and propaganda, especially by fundamentalist groups in the Middle East. So that international law can be enforced, the UN must establish a concrete mechanism for implementing resolutions. With the arrival of a new UN secretary-general, Antonio Guterres, a special representative for the protection of journalists must be appointed as a matter of urgency.” Syria continues to be the world’s deadliest place for journalists, followed by Afghanistan. Worldwide, two thirds of the journalists killed this year were in war zones. Almost all of them were local journalists, now that news organisations are increasingly reluctant to send their reporters to dangerous hotspots abroad. The manager also assured us that Wizkid is doing fine. Yesterday, December 16, the media was shocked to receive reports of an arrest warrant issued to Nigerian pop star, Wizkid by magistrates of Buganda court for missing a concert in Uganda. The Nigerian pop star was unable to fly into Uganda from USA for the concert scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 3 at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’ according to the organisers. ‘We’re on it, we’re talking to them, I need to know who sent it,’ Wizkid‘s manager, Sunday Are told Thenetng. The singer, who is presently tending to health issues in the US, and his manager, were summoned to be produced in court on or before January 16, 2017. Are also assured us that Wizkid is doing fine.
