kennybuluro:True! She was helpful when I went for my file submission. I didn't meet her when I went for uploading though. And she's far nicer than the dark man sitting adjacent her table. |
Jibwillz:I agree, Abeokuta isn't DIY friendly anymore. When is the collection date written on your confirmation slip? |
Jibwillz:Fresh |
KolaSteven:Update on this! So I went to capture today. The interviewer frustrated me ehn ![]() He asked me to produce the originals of my documents (birth certificate & local government of origin certificate), even though those documents were vetted by the front desk when I came to submit my application 6 weeks earlier and I could remember asking the front desk man if I needed to bring anything along while coming for the capturing, and he said no. I had to go back home to bring them. Those of you coming from Lagos for DIY should note that. I came back and I was one of the last people to capture. #199 and they only capture 200 people each day. I got the confirmation slip after I captured and August 30th is the collection date on it. Since the general collection date is 6 weeks after, I'm not so sure about that, but I plan to go to check on August 30th. You'd never know ![]() The officer that signed me out wanted me to drop something before giving me back my confirmation slip but I bone face. I plan to bone face too when I finally collect the passport. Those people just dislike "self-download" anyhow |
tabtabtab:The whole purpose of this thread is to guide folks in their passport acquisition process, make the process as transparent as possible, and avoid scammers that drop "DM" messages here and there. If you have any relevant info to pass around, do that here publicly. This "DM" thing no too make sense ![]() |
Morgan9:No, this info is wrong. DIY in Lagos, Abuja, and PH is 27k while it's 18k at other states apart from these 3 locations. If you are using an immigration officer in any of the 3 states, you shouldn't expect to pay anything less than 40k. |
THUNDER4real:Congrats, chief. When did you do your capturing? |
michaelcipher:Do you mean that you captured on last week's Friday and you got it this week's Monday? |
Southbeach:The whole process itself took me about an hour. But I got there 8am and I didn't leave until 1pm. The officer-in-charge didn't arrive until 11am. Then he asked that my guarantor must be physically present - thank God the guy was able to make it. After these hiccups, it was pretty straightforward. I was given 3 forms to make duplicates of, fill them and buy a file for them. Then he went through all the documents I brought, added them to the file, ask for the passport photographs, attached them to the file, and write stuff on the file. That was it. And he said I should come for capturing by August 18th, which I feel it's too far BTW. |
Growingboi:This is apt! I submitted my DIY documents at the Abeokuta office on Wednesday and I was asked to come for capturing by August 18th (6 weeks after). ![]() |
naijacreativeha:Part 1 to 3 should be filled by your guarantor. He or she doesn't have to be related to you. And he can write "NIL" at the assets section. |
DaSugarBoi:Lol... My guarantor later came within an hour, so I guess that didn't work. I think it's just for a physical ID, and asking if he's truly willing to stand in for me. I noticed that all the three of us on the DIY queue today went to the process. The other two had to go back home. Maybe it's a new procedure. |
Hello, So I went to the Abeokuta office to submit my application (DIY), and I was told that my guarantor needs to be physically present, even though I've had my guarantor's form filled and stamped at the magistrate court. I'm wondering if that is the usual process for DIYs. |
ActivistSlimfeez:Very. Thank you so much. Have you done your capturing and/or collected your passport yet? |
Hello Nairalanders, I want to apply for the 32-paged, standard passport and I'm about to pay via the online portal. But then, I saw that the total payment (including the address verification fee) is 17,500 naira on the portal. But this is contrary to the information that I've seen elsewhere stating that the 32-paged passport is now #25K. I'd like to know if it's safe to make the payment and go to the immigration office afterward. If there's anybody else that paid recently via the online portal, I'd love to know if you paid for the same amount. NB: I selected the Abeokuta office as my processing office. |
It's opening. It's just taking a while. So Chisco is now a wizard? ![]() |
internationalman:That's not so funny to me. ![]() You can do without that little insensitivity. My sis is at the brink of depression. |
Davash222:She was promised a tip right from the start. But that's not the reason she agreed. She only agreed because her 'companion' cajoled her to help, with the assurance that they're in this situation together. |
I'd really appreciate if a mod could push this to the front page. Thank you so much.

My sister just got admitted to UNILAG to study Finance. She had an issue with generating her invoice for school fees payment, so she went to the school yesterday to lodge a complaint. It was rectified almost immediately, but she couldn’t pay the school fees on the spot due to the network latency. On her way back to Abeokuta (we are based in Abeokuta), she met a corporately-dressed, elderly man whose route coincided with hers. They kept boarding buses together from UNILAG until they got to Fadeyi while also engaged in casual conversations about digital logistic companies (GONA, precisely). They were about to board a BRT going to Ketu when another elderly man, stepping down from the BRT, approached my sister. The man, speaking in strained English, explained to her that he is a foreigner from a Francophone country and he is in Lagos to conduct Brazilian hair business with some business contacts, and he need help with counting the Nigerian currencies. Said that the last time he was in Lagos for this, he was duped by those he delivered the goods to. My sister initially declined to help, but her elderly companion prodded her to help. He said they should just render the help for God’s sake, as the foreigner might fall into the hands of those who might take advantage of his foreignness. So my sister, out of empathy and compassion, offered to help, with the assurance that her elderly companion is with her. Not knowing that her companion himself, is an accomplice. She followed the man to LUTH area, and the rest was history! It was a classic ‘films turning to naira notes after being mixed with chemicals’ story. All she wanted to make sure that the foreigner wasn’t scammed, but she got scammed instead. Her smartphone, along with her Mastercard, were collected and her school fees, #63,000, was withdrew from her bank account. I just got home this evening from school and I met her sobbing. My sister has gotten thin and emaciated-looking within a day. We are from a not-so financially-buoyant family. I’m the firstborn and I’m also a hustling undergrad and in a limbo myself, or I’d strive to pay for the fees. She applied to UNILAG last year for Accounting. Due the competitiveness of her preferred course, she missed out by a very narrow margin. Since she wasn’t willing to accept an unrelated course offer. She buckled up, scored 294 in her JAMB while also smashing her Post-UTME this year. Her name was the 3rd name on the admission list pasted by the faculty, without having any connection. Now she’s just so depressed that my heart bled for her. The deadline for the payment of school fees is January 12 and I don’t think she’d ever take waiting for another year. I’m afraid and scared for her. That’s why I’m writing this post as a last resort to crowdfund her school fees. The New Year Festival is already looking bleak as it could be in our home. I’m appealing to well-meaning Nairalanders to help out in any way they can. May God bless you as you save a girl from depression. I’d drop my account number as hers is already compromised. I'm very much interested! Chat me up on 09096679813. How long is the battery life span? |
bunnae:Currently on Matplotlib And Seaborn for data visualization. |
bunnae:Yeah, I have. What about you? |
bunnae:Hello Bunnae, I want a DS buddy, too. Maybe you could push me to work extra harder ![]() |
Avast:Hi, bro! Will you be at DevFest Ibadan next week? I'm coming from Abk for the DevFest, so maybe we can hook up over there and I'd collect the Nanodegree course. |
Lex19:Hello Lex, where are you based? So I could link up and collect those courses. |
Roysnickz:It is very unfortunate that 'theoretical bullshit' is all you wish to highlighted out of my entire story. If you'd read my writeup with an unbiased view, you'd have noticed I was actually defending the notion of getting a formal education. Granted, maybe my using 'theoretical bullshit' to describe the large part of what we are being taught is harsh, but it doesn't discount the fact that a bulky part of what we do in school is not applicable in real world scenarios and production. Most engineering students have to go for graduate internship programs after graduation from school, to pick up the practical skills they didn't pick while in school. I've read lot about CS students from the finest schools, even in the US, who are class-toppers but struggle during job interviews. I don't speak out of ignorance. I'm an avid reader. I'm a class-topper myself. I take my education very seriously. But I know that if I rely on only what we are being taught in classrooms then I'd be like one of the many A-students who aren't employable. You were once a student. Search your feelings and confirm that what I say is true. |
iamgenius:Now don't mislead the poor guy. It is true that Nigerian universities teach theoretical bullshits mostly. But it is also true that it happens all over the world, quote me anywhere. The only variation is the amount of the theoretical bullshit being stuffed down our throats. School is not just a place for reading schoolbooks and cramming for exams. It is a place to grow intellectually, to meet like-minded individuals who will help you get to the apex of your potentials. It is a place to connect, to network. I've met people who has changed my life via school. I'm still meeting more. Funny thing, I've read more than a few books, and I've watched lots of tutorials, not just on YouTube alone. And I'm still in school. Maybe you can keep body and soul together by just reading a few books and watching YouTube tutorials in the corner of your room. But you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't go out there. In the end, you lose more than a few thousands of dollars. |
It depends on what you really want. Mechatronics is an hybrid of Electrical, Mechanical and Computer Engineering. Computer engineering is more narrow. It focus on Computer Software, hardware, networking and embedded systems. If you are indecisive about what to do, go for Computer Engineering, you will meet those in almost every facet of the tech industry. Or better still, go for Computer Science. I'm a CS student myself. But if you are 100% certain that all you want to do is building robots, then go for mechatronics. |
Go for Mechatronics. It is a combination of electrical and mechanical engineering. It is also a combination of Robotics, Telecommunications, embedded systems and product engineering. |
What's the last price sir? |
xsanctus:The HOD said she can't release my 2nd semester result because it hasn't been approved by the Senate yet. So I was only given 1st semester result transcript. Do you think that would be sufficient? |
