Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly launched a deadly attack in Borno state killing 27 people with 83 others wounded.

Report we got said that the attack was carried out on Tuesday, August 15 and was confirmed by local sources.

It was reported that a female bomber detonated her explosives killing 27 other persons in a market in the village of Konduga near Maiduguri, Borno state.

An emergency service personnel also confirmed that two attackers blew themselves off at the gate of a refugee camp although no lives were lost except the perpetrators’.

Meanwhile, Fresh reports say at least four people have reportedly died following a Boko Haram attack on some villages in Amarwa along Maiduguri-Konduga Road in Borno state.

The reports were reportedly confirmed by a village head to a Civil Liberties Organization official Ahmed Shehu on Sunday, August 13 who in turned sent the info as SMS to pressmen in the northeast state.

The message read: “Boko Haram burnt down to ashes another village unit of Wanori and Amarwa village yesterday at about 10.00pm till 11.30pm as reported by those in the village.”

Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano has dismissed insinuations that the shooting of worshipers at St Philip’s Catholic Church Ozubulu, was a terror attack.The Cause of the Ozubulu Terror Attack

While responding in a state broadcast on Monday, Obiano said the attack was caused by a gang war.

He said, “I stand before you today to brief you on the tragic killing of 12 people at St Philip’s Catholic Church, Amakwa, Ozubulu yesterday,” he said.

“First, I want to assure you all that what happened in Ozubulu yesterday was a tragic dimension of a long battle between two business partners who are from the same town.
I have been fully informed that this dangerous conflict has been going on for a while in the country where they both live outside Nigeria before they decided to bring the conflict home. But let me assure you that Anambra is too hot for them to operate here, going forward.
“This explanation, I believe, has erased the fears that the incident may have been caused by either some terrorist organisations or some members of some groups of agitators.

Brothers and sisters, what happened in Ozubulu was neither a terror attack as we know it nor a violent action by some agitators. We are dealing with a dangerous gang war that has spilled over to Anambra state from another African country.”


He assured the people that the government was completely in charge.

“This is the last time it will happen under my watch. Fellow citizens, I want to assure you that we are on top of this situation”.

“We are completely in charge here. The people directly and remotely involved in this crime are known to the law enforcement agencies. But no suspect, no matter how highly placed, is above the law. So, we have taken bold steps to bring them to book and restore the peace and tranquility that Anambra state has enjoyed since the past three years,” he added.

Gunmen stormed the St. Philips Catholic, Ozubulu in Ekusigo Local Government Area of Anambra.

An eyewitness said on Sunday that the gunmen went into the church during the 5:45am mass and identified a particular man and shot him.

He said that the gunmen later went on a rampage and shot at the remaining worshiper numbering over 100.

Scores of people were killed in the church while other critically injured worshiper’s died on the way to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital,Nnewi.

The source, however said the priest of the church was not wounded in the incident.

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested one Chima Odo, suspected to be a lunatic(mad man), over the alleged killing of his step-sister, Ndidiamaka Odo.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Ebere Amaraizu, said that the suspect also inflicted injuries on two other family members – his step-mother, Cordelia Odo, and another step-sister, Neriruka Odo.

It said that the suspect and his victims were residents of Umuagali Amala in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu.

“The reason for the mad man attack on family members is not known, but the account by witnesses indicated that he used an axe to kill the step-sister and inflict injuries on his-step mother and another step-sister,” the statement said.

It stated that the suspect was being questioned, while those injured were battling for survival at Bridget Hospital, Obollo-Afor.

The statement said that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.

The Minister of National Security in Jamaica, Robert Montague, has announced that prisoners in the country are to be allowed conjugal visits.

According to The Observer newspaper, the Minister, who caused uproar on social media after his announcement, made this known while addressing participants at a Diaspora Conference in Kingston.

The Minister said he believes that allowing inmates to have sexual relations with their partners will be beneficial; adding that it was a ‘Christian thing’ to do.

He said: “I am determined and insistent that we are going to start conjugal visits and some persons ask me why, but we must treat (incarcerated persons) in a humane way.

“A lot of us (say) that we are Christians; but true Christianity is when you do for the least among us, so we are working on that.”

Following the announcement, human rights advocacy group known as, ‘Stand Up for Jamaica’ endorsed the plans to introduce conjugal visits in correctional facilities.

In a press statement, the group said it believes the move will help to further advance the rehabilitation of inmates.
According to the group, the increasing rehabilitation programmes in correctional institutions is critical in addressing some of the root causes of crime and changing the negative attitudes which make it difficult for offenders to return to the society as productive members.

It said: “conjugal visits will allow inmates to reconnect with their wives and strengthen their bond with their families.”

Another human right group, Jamaicans for Justice, has also supported to the plan to introduce conjugal visits in correctional facilities.

John Heard, the actor best known for his roles in “Home Alone” and “The Sopranos,” has died, the Santa Clara Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed. He was 72.

Early reports said Heard was found dead in his hotel room in Palo Alto, California.

Earlier this week, representatives for Heard said the actor underwent minor back surgery at Stanford Medical Center on Wednesday. They said he planned to stay at the hotel during his recovery.
His appearance manager, Dominic Mancini, said that Heard has an amazing talent.

“I spoke with John last week and he mentioned he was focused on improving his health and was having a procedure done to help his back pain. I called his cell phone and there is no answer,” he said.

Mancini added, “I don’t have contact with anyone in his family. I will miss John. He was truly one of a kind and an amazing talent. His blend of comedy and quirkiness was unmatched.”

Heard is widely known for his portrayal of Peter McCallister, the father in the 1990 film “Home Alone” and its 1992 sequel “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”

Heard also appeared in “Big,” “After Hours” and “Beaches.” He received an Emmy nomination in 1999 for his guest role in “The Sopranos” as Vin Makazian, a corrupt police detective from Newark, New Jersey.

“At the time, we didn’t know the movie was funny,” Heard told the Baltimore Media Blog in 2016. “We were playing the parents who lost their kid, so we didn’t how funny-stupid we could be.”

The coroner has launched an investigation into the cause of Heard death, which is unclear at this time.

Friends and fellow Hollywood stars remembered Heard on Saturday.

Jeff Bridges, his co-star in “Cutter’s Way,” tweeted, “My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. We miss & love you, John.”

Bridges added, “I got to experience his artistry and dedication firsthand.”

Elijah Wood, who starred in 1992’s “Radio Flyer” with Heard, tweeted, “Sad to hear of John’s passing.”

In a statement released on Wednesday by its convener, Deji Adeyanju, and Secretary, Dr. John Danfulani, the group noted that Buhari had now been absent from office and Nigeria for 72 days, disclosing that it would commence the sit-outs on the 90th day of his absence.

2. The Federal High Court in Lagos, on Wednesday, ordered the temporary forfeiture of a property at Banana Island, Lagos, worth $37.5m owned by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke. The building has 24 apartments, 18 flats and six penthouses.

3. Ailing Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar has lamented that some persons are using her condition to enrich themselves. She warned those trying to make money from her ailment to discontinue, adding that she needs no more donations from people.

4. Nigeria total debt has risen by N4.76tn in 2016. The Debt Management Office disclosed this in its 2016 Annual Report and Statement of Accounts in Abuja on Wednesday. It said the significant increase is mainly in the domestic debt component. According to the DMO, the development reflects an increase of N4.76tn or 37.74 per cent within a period of one year.

5. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, while reacting to the controversy generated by the plans to ban production of movies and music videos insisted that government’s decision that any programme meant for Nigerians must be produced in Nigeria was the best for the country. He said the Creative Industry’s potential of creating 1 million jobs in three years cannot be realized if jobs meant for Nigerians are being exported to other countries.

6. The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos State Wednesday dismissed the appeal brought before it by Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the Bench Warrant issued against him by Justice Buba of the Federal High Court in Lagos. The court ruled that the warrant of arrest issued remains valid.

7. The Management of Diamond Bank Plc, Wednesday, confirmed that there was a fire incident as a result of mob action at its Creek Road, Apapa branch in Lagos State. A press statement by Head, Corporate Communications, Chioma Afe, said the bank was set ablaze by an angry mob after a policeman allegedly shot dead a trailer driver outside the bank premises.

8. There was pandemonium in the Benin garage axis of Akure, the Ondo state capital on Wednesday night, as members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) engaged in free for all fight. The members of the union in the Benin garage unit, were brandished in different dangerous weapon including cutlasses, axes, broken bottles and local guns. No fewer than 10 people sustained serious injuries in the fight that is connected to leadership crisis.

9. The committee on a new National Minimum Wage will begin sitting before the end of July. This was made known by NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, on Wednesday.
He said that before the end of this month, the process of discussions on a new minimum wage will commence.

10. Niger Delta militant groups have declared their support for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu’s calls for people of the Southeast to boycott the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State. The militant groups, comprising Rainbow Marabas Squad, RMS, Concerned Militant Leaders, CML, and the Niger Delta People’s Democratic Front, NDPDF argued that since May 30, 2016 when soldiers allegedly massacred innocent IPOB members in some parts of the Southern states, the Federal Government has remained silent.

Barcelona Board of Directors has approved the closure of the accounts for the 2016/17 season.

Results from the year show a record income in club history of €708 million.

According to information posted on the club website yesterday, the figure is €13 million higher than what was originally budgeted, while net after tax profit is €18 million.

“The Board have naturally viewed the final figures in a positive light, not just because the said growth is not only in line with the Club’s Strategic Plan to reach €1billion million by 2021, but also because of the operating result”, the club said.

“The €24.5 million reduction in the club’s debt means it is now at €247 million while the EBITDA ratio is at 1.99, well within the limit of 2.25 set by the statutes”.

Barcelona added that in last season, payment of salaries to players amounted to 66% of the club’s total expenditure.

Forbes recently placed FC Barcelona as the fourth most valuable sports club in the world at €3.64 billion.

Outspoken cybersecurity entrepreneur John McAfee, the founder of the anti-virus software that still bears his surname, believes that multinational technology giant Google has become “so large and so powerful” that its alleged greed now “threatens to destroy us all”.

On 14 July, in a tough-talking interview with Russia’s primary state media outlet RT, McAfee took the search engine goliath to task, saying: “If you believe that Google is not harmful then you must believe that the total loss of our privacy and human dignity is not harmful.”

McAfee, who now heads up a cybersecurity and cryptocurrency venture called MGT Capital Investments, slammed Google’s data collection and web-crawling capabilities, claiming it reduces individuals to statistics without considering their human emotions.

“I love Google from one standpoint,” he said. “It has opened up the world to information beyond comprehension and has enriched our lives – but Google has taken the mantle of corporate conscience and sacrificed it on the altar of Mammon for money.

“We are not numbers, I am not a statistic, I am not a collection of attitudes and desires. I am a human being with my own dreams and hopes and problems. By making me a number you have removed my human dignity. You need to stop doing that.”

A Google spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In past years, Google has been criticised for scanning the personal emails of Gmail users, an allegedly close relationship with the US government and numerous complaints of suspected data collection overreach. Yet it remains one of the biggest technology firms in the world.

“I am seriously ticked off about Google’s lack of conscience,” McAfee continued.

“I may be an old man and you may think that I have lost my energy and my strength and my teeth but I promise you, if things don’t change I will do everything within my power to make sure that the objections of the world are laid squarely on the doorsteps of Google.”

It appears McAfee was determined to start a war-of-words. In a YouTube description of his RT interview, he wrote: “When success gives way to pure, venal greed we all suffer. Google has become so large, and so powerful, that their greed now threatens to destroy us all.”

On Twitter, where the web pioneer boasts a following of more than 63,000 people, he later claimed his “Google challenge” was mysteriously deleted from his social media profiles. The same day, alongside a selfie of him wearing a skull mask, he added: “I’m ready. Are you Google?”

MGT Capital Investments is currently bulking up its bitcoin mining capabilities, alongside a product dubbed “Sentinel” which aims to protect businesses from criminal hackers. Most recently, a court ruled that McAfee settled a legal dispute with tech firm Intel over use of his name.
