jethro2: Our November training which will be the last for this year is mainly for those that would love to do irrigation farming and make the tomatoe millions. Its coming at the right time. The November training will also be the last on farm practical training for the year. We will be working basically on: 1. Selecting your seed. How do you determine which seed to use? What quantity do you need for an acre or hectare? How do you space your seed planting? Is it compulsory to do nursery? When do I transplant my nursery?
2. The soil What type of soil is required for specific crop? How do you recognise an infected soil? How do you treat your soil? What quantity of organic matter does your soil requires? 3. Farm planning and set up Do I need irrigation for my farm? What type of irrigation will be suitable for my crop? How to set up the irrigation system What quantity of water does my crop required? How often do I irrigate? 4. Staking and mulching my tomato farm Why do I need to mulch? What is mulching? What can I use to mulch? Why do I need to stake? What type of staking is good for my crop? Which one comes first? Staking before transplanting or transplanting before staking 5. Fertigation/fertilizer application Must I use fertilizer? What type is the best? Where can I source for it? What's the difference between organic and conventional fertilizer? How do I make my own organic fertilizer? What quantity of fertilizer do I need to apply? How do I apply fertilizer? The above are some of the questions that will practically attended to during the one month practical training.
Is it possible for you to train me for just a day or two? |

Agriculture › Re: The A-Z Of Snail Farming In Nigeria (what Nobody Will Tell You For Free!) by koolpapa(m): 7:50pm On Oct 15, 2015 |
lordhugo: Good question.
Eggs in my opinion have a higher hatch rate when "harvested" from your snail pen substrate.
1. Get a plastic disposable plate with a cover. 2. Place 1cm of soil 3. Arrange the harvested eggs one per square inch 4. Place another 1 cm of soil over them. 5. Watch every early morning for hatched snails (since you dont know when these in question were laid) . Incubation usually takes 18-22 days. 6. Transfer newly hatched snails to a nursery.
I believe you can now sterilize your substrate now.
Cheers. Kool day to you Koolpapa
Modified. @ demsat . I also saw your post above on hatching snails. I believe this helps you.
N.B. The method above would be harder to implement for a larger scale farm. Constructing or buying electric incubators are better for larger farms. Thanks for the response sir,pls can u talk more on incubator construction sir |
Agriculture › Re: The A-Z Of Snail Farming In Nigeria (what Nobody Will Tell You For Free!) by koolpapa(m): 10:29pm On Oct 14, 2015 |
lordhugo: Cockroaches?
They are a nuisance especially to younger snails.
I would suggest you take an in depth look at closing up entry routes.
Also, remove your snails and sterilise your soil (by heating) to kill eggs and larvae.
As for using egg shells as source of calcium, NICE IDEA... but be wary of diminishing returns.
Why don't you source for calcium? Head to any poultry supplies store and ask for limestone.
Cheers As for the sterilization u adviced, their eggs in the soil moving the eggs out to sterilizer the soil will it not cos the eggs not to hatch |

Neduzze5: Get a pet bottle, e.g Eva water bottle, cut it in such a way that the upper part look like a funnel.
Then turn that part and insert the part that we put in our mouth into the other part of the cut pet plastic bottle.
Use a cello tape to hold it all together.
Pour a little Star or Guinness beer into the bottle, position it around your pen close to a stone in such a away that the slug can crawl onto the stone and into the bottle.
You can make three or four of these and place them at strategic places around your pen. While placing one inside. @ Neduzze5 Thanks for the inpute I will try it out |
