Southern Kaduna is brewing again - visit the link below to see photos. http://saharareporters.com/news-page/how-local-militia-killed-two-southern-kaduna Posted: February 12, 2012 - 23:33
By SaharaReporters, New York
Facts have emerged on how suspected Fulani militia struck with sophisticated weapons in the troubled Zonkwa area of Southern Kaduna Northern Nigeria last night. Pastor Nuhu Luka who spoke to SaharaReporters by telephone last night alleged that the gunmen were the same Fulani herdsmen that have troubled the area for some time now. According to the pastor, in whose house the attack was carried out, “they came to the church thinking by then we will be holding service and with several people. But on getting to the church they realized that we have closed [and] from there they came to my house. On getting to the house they shot the first person that saw them, on hearing gunshots a female in the bathroom rushed and they immediately killed her too. When we screamed that Fulani have come again, they started running and in the process they shot another male who is now in Jos hospital.”
He continued: “Let the whole world see how these people have been attacking us in Zonkwa, they were the first people that first attacked us during election violence in April 2011. The first building burnt in Zonkwa was Fajumali Hotel, and the first 17 people that were killed were our own people but today they are waging propaganda that they were innocently attacked and killed.” Immediately after the attack, angry youths of Zonkwa started combing the deep forest surrounding Zonkwa in search of the suspected gunmen but they were prevented from continuing by soldiers so as to avoid escalating the violence. |
Politics › N100m Donation: Falana Calls For Sanction Against Sanusi by koruji(op): 4:08am On Feb 13, 2012 |
Here is our story. Akpabio, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, made a N40 million donation to the victims of the Xmas day bombings. Hence the governor of the 37th Nigerian state, officially known as the CBN, cannot be outdone - N100 million to the victim of the most recent Kano blasts. Considering that some of the governors of the northern states have being compensating "some" victims of Boko Haram in their domain for a while why is Sanusi jumping in the fray now. The other day, he boldly picked up the role of spokesman for Boko Haram by explaining their evil deeds as linked to oil revenue allocation - not minding that BH itself has cursed out anyone who suggests that they are fighting over such mundane issues as resource controls. SLS definitely has an agenda, we are just not clear what that agenda is at the present time. No structure, no direction, everyone who finds himself in some position of power directs the resources of the nation to his own vested interests. http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news-update/36637-n100m-donation-falana-calls-for-sanction-against-sanusi.html By Joseph Jibueze1 hour ago
Lagos lawyer Mr Femi Falana has urged the Federal Government to call Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to order. Falana said Sanusi granted a “provocative interview” to the Financial Times and made an alleged extra-budgetary donation to terror victims. According to him, the Federal Government has the duty to compensate victims of civil disturbances arising from the crisis of underdevelopment associated with a neo-colonial capitalist society. He noted that the Goodluck Jonathan administration has embraced this. In a statement yesterday in Lagos, Falana urged the Federal Government to restrain Sanusi and other government officials from usurping the statutory functions of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for what he called dubious political objectives. He said: “Since the CBN did not make any donation to the victims and the dependants of the hundreds of innocent people who had been murdered in cold blood in Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Niger, Kaduna and Adamawa states by the dreaded sect, Mallam Sanusi should be sanctioned for the diversion of public funds through the illegal donation. “In the said interview, Sanusi blamed the emergence of the Boko Haram terrorist sect on the 13 per cent derivation allocated to the oil producing states from the Federation Account. “The publication of the ill-advised interview coincided with the increasing wave of the murderous attacks of the nihilist organisation on innocent people in many parts of the country. “Since the CBN governor was not called to order for the reckless and diversionary interview by the Federal Government, Mallam Sanusi has been reported to have engaged in the extra-budgetary donation of N100 million to the victims of the Boko Haram menace in Kano city on behalf of the CBN. “The illegal donation should not go unchallenged at a time several Nigerians are saying: ‘To Thy Tents O Israel’ due to their unwarranted displacement in some states of the federation.” The activist said government officials, who have no solutions to the problems confronting the masses, should stop resorting to religious and ethnic sentiments to further divide the nation. |

By Emmanuel Aziken, Emeka Mammah, Samuel Oyadongha, Daniel Idonor, Henry Umoru & Ben Agande LAGOS — Member of the House of Representatives from Bayelsa State, Serikae Dickson was yesterday returned as the next Governor of the State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Dickson was adjudged the winner of the votes having polled a total of 417, 500 votes out of the 467,004 votes cast, representing 89% of total votes cast in the Saturday election.

Photo: Nwankpa Chijioke The turnout of voters in the state was put at 72% by the Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port-Harcourt, Prof Joseph Ajienka. The turnout as announced yesterday was against the trend of earlier reports at the end of the voting which characterized the election as being marred by voters’ apathy. Declaring the result of the election yesterday, Prof. Joseph Ajienka Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port-Harcourt, said that Dr. Imoro Kubor of the Change Advocacy Party, CAP came a distant second with 22,534 votes while Kemela Okara of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN polled 9,627 votes. Famous Daunemigha of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC trailed the pack with 3,548 votes. “Seriake Dickson, having satisfied the requirement of the law by scoring the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner of the governorship election in Bayelsa State and returned elected,” the returning officer declared yesterday. Following the announcement, Dickson at a press conference in Yenogoa declared that he was humbled by the victory. He said it was not a personal victory but victory for all Ijaws, giving a prominent mention to President Goodluck Jonathan who is from the state for his efforts. “I wish to particularly thank my boss and elder brother, Mr. President and the leader of our great party, His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, for his fatherly support and unflinching commitment to Bayelsa State,” Dickson said in his acceptance speech yesterday. He immediately declared his readiness to pursue peace with all his adversaries, saying that there is “no victor, no vanquished” from the election. He equally pledged that his campaign promises were not just meant for verbal expression but insisted that he would faithfully implement, to the letter, every promise made during the campaigns. Against the trend of reports that the vote was characterized by voters apathy the results declared yesterday showed huge voting in most of the local government areas of the state. In President Jonathan’s Ogbia local government where the President himself lamented on voting day about voters’ apathy, the results declared showed a turnout of 75% with the PDP polling 94% of the votes. In Sagbama, where 79% of the 69,098 registered voters turned out, the PDP scored 92.7% of the total votes cast. The lowest turnout according to the INEC declaration was in Yenogoa where only 52.5 % of the registered 133,122 voters turned out to vote, the PDP scored 88.5% of the total votes cast. The proclamation of Dickson as Governor-Elect was immediately hailed by President Jonathan, Senate President David Mark and Speaker Aminu Tambuwal among others. Welcoming the election of Dickson, President Jonathan urged him to dedicate himself to the improvement of the lot of the people saying that he was elated that the Bayelsa electorate sided him in returning the PDP candidate. In the statement issued on his behalf by presidential spokesman, Dr. Rueben Abati, Jonathan was quoted as saying: “As they prepare to assume office at the helm of governance in Bayelsa State, the President urges them to fully dedicate their tenure to giving effective, purposeful and result-oriented leadership to the people of the state who clearly reaffirmed their confidence in the PDP on Saturday.” “President Jonathan expects that Hon. Dickson and his incoming administration in Bayelsa State will work with total dedication and commitment to justify the peoples’ confidence by rapidly delivering visible and significant improvements in the living conditions of residents of the state”, the statement said. Senate President David Mark on his part in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Paul Mumeh, while congratulating the victorious PDP flag bearer implored him to rise up to the challenge of massive infrastructural development of the entire state which he claimed is in dire need of upliftment. According to Mark: “You should rise up to the challenge of even development of the state. That is the sure way of building trust and confidence in your administration. You must bring honour and pride to the people of Bayelsa in particular and Nigerians at large. “With this victory, you have a sacred mandate to lead the state to greater heights. As a father to all the citizens of the state, you should bring everybody on board and ensure that no part of the state feels a sense of marginalisation”. Speaker Aminu Tambuwal on his part in a statement issued on his behalf by his Special Adviser Media and Public Affairs, Imam Imam called on Dickson to unify the various tendencies in the state even as he called on all stakeholders in the state to rally round the incoming Governor. “The people of Bayelsa have made the right choice. I, on behalf of the members of the House of Representatives, congratulate Hon Dickson and wish him a fruitful tenure” the speaker said. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, yesterday applauded the conduct of the election by INEC. The NBA in a statement said: “INEC colour coded the ballot papers and made them Local Government specific. This is a good innovation that should continue to be replicated in other states.” The NBA however frowned over what it described as poor location of polling booths. “The location of polling units remains a significant concern. Some of the Polling Units in Bayelsa State are located in people’s houses, mechanics workshops, and street corners and peoples corridors. “Some of them are also too close to each other. The location of some of these polling units in awkward places made it difficult for Presiding Officers to set up properly and guarantee the secrecy of the vote in terms of the location of voting cubicles.” “The location of the polling units also posed challenges to the security agencies in providing adequate security cover for the elections as some of them were in vulnerable places that could not be cordoned off in period of crisis,” the NBA siad it a statement by its Election Working Group. SWG. The statement was jointly signed by Dafe Akpedeye, SAN, and Festus Okoye, both co-chairmen of the group. |
Politics › ‘insurgency Takes Toll On Economy’ by koruji(op): 1:18am On Feb 13, 2012 |
http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/business/36583-%E2%80%98insurgency-takes-toll-on-economy%E2%80%99.html By Onyedi Ojiabor
AN increasingly violent insurgency by Islamist sect Boko Haram in Nigeria’s economically stagnant north has begun pressuring the country’s finances by forcing extra spending on security.
Nigeria, according to Reuter’s news, is diverting money away from needed infrastructure spending and could be costing as much as two per cent of the country’s economic output. Boko Haram, which wants Islamic sharia law more widely applied across Nigeria, has been waging a low level insurgency against the government and security forces since 2009. The severity of its attacks has leapt in the last six months with its strikes have been largely confined to the Muslim north, hundreds of kilometres from the commercial hubs of Lagos and the Niger Delta, home to Africa’s biggest oil industry. This means that foreign investors have not been unduly rattled in a broad sense. "The northeast is not all that important economically, so unless they start blowing up stuff in Lagos or they can find a way to disrupt business on a larger scale, I think foreign investors are prepared to live with the threat,"saidAlan Cameron, analyst at London-based Investment firm CSL. Foreign direct investors and portfolio managers are, however, concerned about the progress of structural reforms in one of the continent’s most inefficient and wasteful economies - and about the government’s ability to keep a lid on spending. On that latter point, the Boko Haram insurgency is having a bigger impact. Nigeria’s security bill has risen to 20 per cent of spending in the 2012 budget from 16 per cent in 2010, leaving less money for much-needed infrastructure projects and for work on reforms to the power and other social and industrial sectors. Laat year’s budget did not give a breakdown for security costs. "It implies less spending on power infrastructure, education and healthcare, which combined have been allocated a smaller budget than security in 2012," Renaissance Capital economist Yvonne Mhango said in a note. The direct cost of security is at least two per cent of Nigeria’s $250 billion economy, measured by the share of spending-to-Gross Domestic Product in 2012, Mhango said. High government spending is also putting pressure on the naira currency. Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Lamido Sanusi was forced into a controlled depreciation of the naira last year and although it has stabilised, trading is volatile. Sanusi has urged the government to control public spending to prevent further weakening, which would bite directly into potential investment returns for foreigners. Boko Haram killed more than 250 people in a series of attacks in January, according to Human Rights Watch, and security experts believe it has growing ties with outside Islamist groups, including al Qaeda’s north African wing. It has become President Goodluck Jonathan’s biggest headache and is threatening to divert the government’s attention from the pressing but thorny issue of weaning the economy away from its reliance on crude oil exports. "You can draw parallels with Japan, which experienced a nuclear crisis last year. The government was distracted by the disaster to the detriment of the economy," one European investor in Africa told Reuters. |

INEC is improving how it conducts the polls, but the politicians are damaging the system. The farce called an election in Bayelsa state should be a wake-up call to President GEJ that the Nigerian system needs a bold new direction. One in which problems are correctly identified and solutions are based on a people oriented approach. Here is another elected official promising a "Restoration Agenda". I guess Governor-Select Dickinson realized the wisdom of staying away from the phrase "Transformation Agenda". That reduces the number of available, high-sounding, phrases by which our so-called administrators described their mediocre plans and expectedly abysmal performance. "Restoration Agenda" my foot - how do you restore something that never was Yorubas would say: "If someone promises to give you clothes, make sure to check his own attire". Seeing that you are a veritable Yoruba history resource person on NL may I inquire concerning a certain writer. I came across Dierk Lange's writing on the net in the past year and have read some of his writings bearing on explaining how most of the ethnic groups in Nigeria got there. I waited for about a year to read an upcoming paper of his titled "Origin of the Yoruba and “The Lost Tribes of Israel”". It finally showed up late last year. My impression of the connections he made between fleeing Assyrian/Egyptian/Israelite refuges in the 8th century B.C. and some of the peoples of northern Nigeria in the other papers were always tenuous. However, he seems to have gone completely overboard with his attempt to link the oral tradition of Oyo-Yoruba kings to this same group, but particularly the lost 10 tribes of Israel. For example, this is the kind of "links" he makes: Alaafin Abiọdun (of the oral Oyo tradition) became Nabopolassar (Nabû-apla-usur) of ancient Babylon. Not realizing that Abiodun has direct Yoruba meaning he often argues that the previous names were corrupted to those in the oral history. See the paper here: Origin of the Yoruba and The Lost Tribes of IsraelI am concerned about this writer because references have since shown up on Wikipedia refering to the "discovery" of a link between Yoruba and the 10 lost tribes of Israel. Are you familiar with this author or this type of approach to history? If so, could you please share your opinion on this paper. Once again Nigeria is being called to listen to the voice of reason. Let's talk and fix what is wrong with our house rather than turn a blind eye until it collapses suddenly and totally on us all. Quote: “Are we not daring fate? We may have gone beyond the tolerance threshold and if care is not taken, we stand the grave risk of plunging the nation into a catastrophe by obdurately clinging to a system that is beyond salvage.” http://www.punchng.com/news/opponents-of-national-conference-enemies-of-nigeria-aregbesola/

Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, has labelled opponents of the Sovereign National Conference being advocated by some politicians and human rights activists enemies of the country. Aregbesola stated this on Saturday at the golden anniversary celebration of the Anglican Grammar School, Arigidi Akoko, Ondo State where he inaugurated some projects and a N50m development fund for his alma mater. The governor insisted that the convocation of the SNC remained the best way to determine the continued existence of Nigeria. He said, “We must embark immediately on sovereign National Conference. While we are the same in our essential humanity, we are different as a people – with different, history, world view, cultural practices and I daresay at different levels of civilisation. “These differences are showing every day and posing a grave danger to our union. Sovereign national conference is not and has never been a call for the dissolution of Nigeria. “What is necessary and which we are asking for is the negotiation of the terms of our union. Those who foreclosed the negotiation of our union are the real enemies of the country. “We must commence this national conference without delay if we are to save the country from inevitable untoward consequences.” Aregbesola added, “We are a plural society with many nations within the Nigerian nation. On many occasions in the past, we have got to the brink and miraculously returned. We have thus stretched our luck too far to the point of taking it for granted. “Are we not daring fate? We may have gone beyond the tolerance threshold and if care is not taken, we stand the grave risk of plunging the nation into a catastrophe by obdurately clinging to a system that is beyond salvage.” The governor said education played a major role in helping the society renew itself and creation of wealth wealth. He called for the investment in education in the country, saying educated people are more likely to succeed in life, adding that they are more amenable to peace and less likely to be predisposed to violence. Aregbesola, who donated an Information and Communication Technology Centre named after Chief Bola Tinubu to his former school, explained that the donation became necessary in view of the fact that “computer has actually become the centre of the universe.” He said, “Everything today is about the computer, whichever way it is presented as a desktop, laptop, tablet and handheld device. “It is interesting now that even artisans like mechanics need the computer to diagnose problems with cars and find solutions to them. Architects and draughtsmen now use the computer to design precision houses.” |

As I mentioned in my previous reply it didn't happen like that. The Jews began returning to Palestine way before Hitler and the UN got in the mix. They had started establishing communities decades before and began reclaiming their history before it became a big conflict. ekt_bear: What I want to know is why someone else's land/territory should have been given away as compensation for crimes Europeans committed against Jews.

Yes, they lost the land a long time ago - more like for 1900 years rather than 2500 though. In the 19th century racism against the Jews, which you noted, got them thinking about going back to their homeland. Well, they started coming back and it was with open arms that they were welcomed by the Palestinians at first. Then WWII happened and it became a definite agenda to reestablish their homeland. Fights ensued, Palestinians demanded land they had sold back, Israelis refused bit by bit guns turned into bombings, and then small wars. Here we are looking at a potential global conflagration over the issue. The point is that they are now on part of the land and there is no telling them to get off it - at least not without a serious fight. There is a similarity to the undercurrents of the conflict in Liberia, where former American slaves decided to go back "home" only to find out that they were not welcome by their ancestors descendants. ekt_bear: If you've not controlled a land for thousands of years, then what claim can you make?
Jews had not controlled Jerusalem for 2500+ years prior to 1900.
The only way they gained control of it was through the help of the UN and Europe as a result of European guilt. |

There is a big difference. Jerusalem was once theirs too. No part of Uganda was ever Israel. Of course, the place that became Jerusalem was taken by the Israelites after they returned from Egypt, but even before that some of their ancestors lived in that region. The whole point here is that these two people that are fighting to the death can trace their ancestory to a common parent. Why can't they find a responsible solution, instead of this useless ruination of life. ekt_bear: You know they thought about establishing a homeland for Jews in Uganda (or one of those countries)?
Maybe African countries and their leaders would then also be viewed as unbalanced villains for being upset at this happening. |

I guess it is just western propaganda that Nigeria is ruled by corrupt thieves too. Look at the two nations of S. Korea and N. Korea and their contribution to the planet, then come back and tell me again that N. Korea is suffering from western propaganda. Ahmadinejad says it all the time - that is a fact. It is interesting that the translators who work for Ahmadinejad insist that what he meant was "wipe off the map" while non-parties with obvious vested interests trying to make him more rational than he is claim he did not say so. In a June 11, 2006 analysis of the translation controversy, New York Times editor Ethan Bronner stated:
[T]ranslators in Tehran who work for the president's office and the foreign ministry disagree with them. All official translations of Mr. Ahmadinejad's statement, including a description of it on his website, refer to wiping Israel away. Sohrab Mahdavi, one of Iran’s most prominent translators, and Siamak Namazi, managing director of a Tehran consulting firm, who is bilingual, both say “wipe off” or “wipe away” is more accurate than "vanish" because the Persian verb is active and transitive. kalokalo: You are a victim of Western media propaganda. Ahmadinejad never said Israel should be wiped off the map. North Korea is not a belligerent nation. Iran is not an aggressive nation. The US/Israel are the real aggressors. North Korea is not a crazy nation. They are perfectly rational students of history. They know that their nuclear arms ensures their national security and deters Western aggression. Iran is not an evil nation. They are a peace loving people who don't invade other lands!
North Korea is under permanent UN sanctions because the UN is a handmaiden of US foreign policy. The UN serves and is controlled by the US. |

Negative analogies are a loser any day. Because a thief goes scot-free is no basis for another to contest his sentence. When the people of Saudi Arabia stand up they would expect your support, but just like you are here today praising those opposing support for the Syrian people you will find some other negative analogy to not grant the people's wish. We need to come off this attitude. Even those countries responded in some way to the events that swept the Arab world in recent times. Saudi Arabia for one immediately put in a place a program of measures that will see about $30 billion more going to the people. Bahrain saw protests and is moving to make reforms. Don't know much about the others. No justification for their maintaining feudalistic rules, but if the people of Syria fails, as Russia and China wants, then there is no hope for those of Saudi Arabia. So your point is self-defeating. Most of the Islamic countries are closed to the rest of the world not just these nations. They get exposed to the worldwide news media when they interact with the rest of the world. By the way Al Jazeera is the one exposing them to the rest of the world more than CNN. kalokalo: Why didn't the so called freedom loving West propose a security council resolution to punish the tyrannical regimes of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar and Yemen for their ongoing crackdown on their people? Why did the US quickly sell tens of billions of dollars worth of arms to those brutal regimes to crush the aspirations of their own people?
why is the Western Media currently blacking out the ongoing bloodshed in Bahrain, Saudi and Yemen? Are those countries not ruled by iron fisted dictatorships? Who is arming, training and funding the "peaceful protesters" in Syria? Why has the western Media failed to mention that more than 2500 Syrian law enforcement agents have lost their lives to the guerrillas running rampant in the country?
Whose interest does the "Syrian Free Army" serve? Why one set of rules for US client regimes and another set of rules for independent regimes? Why are we constantly bombarded by events in Syria and Iran but those in Saudi, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, Yemen blacked out by the so called free press? Who is fooling who? I support the action of Russia and China! |

Every nation on this planet has one reason or the other to be pissed at someone, but a nation that wants to contribute a peaceful planet doesn't have to behave like Iran. What it means, and this is something I always like to point out, is that the Iranian leaders of today would have acted worse than the Americans were they in the same position. The fight between Iran and the US was the fight over oil, and was related to the cold war. I don't think that stands in the way of seeing the danger of a nuclear armed Iran. ekt_bear: Iran has very good reasons to be pissed at the West, lol.
Study their history a bit.
Anyway, all I know is that if I ever come into power in Yorubaland, even though I would seek to become very good friends with the US, I would also invest in a nuclear weapons program. . . just in case.
It is good to have a Plan A, but also have a Plan B if A doesn't work out.

All in the name of sticking to a failed politico-economic system which its original propagators have abandoned. Still, with all its belligerence N. Korea is not crazy enough to start a nuclear confrontation, but Iran's leaders are. Iran on the other hand has committed itself to wiping out Israel - a nation that will defend itself to the death. What do you think will happen if Iran gets the bomb? May be now they are thinking more of deterence, but they have already acted and stated the kind of evil things they will do with such instruments of violence were it available to them. Hence nobody is going to count on Iran's good behavior. When you mix this with the clear demonstration of the extent to which religious fanatics can go in trying to fulfill their fatalistic illusions, and the kind of religious fatalism that come out of Ahmadinejad's mouth you will understand why Iran and Nuclear weapons do not go together. kalokalo: Have anyone noticed why the US and its satellites never talk of invading North Korea? The Iranians will be the most silly nation on earth if they don't develop nuclear weapons. That is the only way to guarantee their national survival from the worlds bully! Iraq, Libya et al will never have been invaded if they were nuclear armed states.
Notice how they paint leaders of target nations for invasion as unstable, crazy or mad? Or associate them with terrorism (al qaeda). They did that to Iraq and now Iran is in their sights. That is one of their propagandistic tactics to force consent from you for another genocidal war of conquest. History always repeats itself when it comes to empires. |

That is true. In fact, the Iranians claim to be Aryans or caucasians - hence the name of their country. However, the main difference between the Osama bin Ladens and the Ahmadinejads of this world is the "sect" to which they belong. Most of the Arabs are of the Sunni sect, whereas the Iranians are mainly Shiite. Iraq has a majority Shiite that is ruled by the Sunnis. These two sects are very violent towards each other, but their ideologies against the west are virtually the same. ekt_bear: Arabs and Persians are very different people.
I think part of the problem here is that some of you think they are the same.
There is no connection between Persians and a guy like Osama Bin Laden.
Heck, OBL hated Shiites and Iran. He viewed Shiite Islam as a sick perversion of Islam. Probably had a lower opinion of them than say Christians or Jews. . . |

It was not mis-translated. He says it all the time. The reason they are crazy in a different way from the case of N. Korea is that it is religion-based. There is no rule sacred enough that cannot be violated by fanatics as has been clearly demonstrated throughout distant and recent history. It is one thing to try to protect your own political sovereignty, it is another to try to make stary-eyed prophecies come true by instigating a global war. The Iranian mullahs are irrational because they live in a matchbox and enjoy playing with fire. They are the mega-version of the 72-virgin seeking zealots that waste their and innocent lives like free oxygen each and everyday. Woe betide this planet if Iran gets its hands on nuclear weapons. Even if nothing happens right away look for several neighbours to acquire their own arsenals in quick succession, and then everybody in this tinderbox call the middle-east would be walking around with a lighted match. With the assortment of terrorist groups all claiming to do "God's will" it won't be long before we hear a Kaboooooooooooommmmm!!!! ekt_bear: Wasn't that "wipe Israel off the map" quote mis-translated?
Also, why do we believe that the rulers of Iran are insane or irrational?
Look, the only way to protect yourself on this planet from possibly getting your @ss kicked by the US is nuclear weapons. North Korea has nuclear weapons now, and as poor and backwards as the country is, the US wouldn't dare fvck with them.
That is the only force that will keep the majors powers at bay, if you are a weak country.
Given that, why are these Iranian mullahs crazy to you?
BTW, I don't want to say Persians are not very religious, but I've seen no evidence of excessive piety or religious insanity amongst them, at least the ones I've met. Even the ones I've met straight from Iran. |

Is this about the governorship election coming up in Bayelsa? The upcoming trial of Okah? Response to Boko Haram? Or all of the above and more mixed up together into a fire-cracking cocktail.
It is interesting that they did not mention the subsidy policy in the statement.

Politics › Nigerian Oil Militants, Mend, Strikes Again! Agip Pipeline Bombed! - Deja Vu by koruji(op): 5:29am On Feb 05, 2012 |
http://www.thetimesofnigeria.com/TON/Article.aspx?id=3564 Sat Feb, 04 2012 Nigeria’s main oil militants operating in Niger Delta region, Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) today said its fighters have sabotaged an oil pipeline that belongs to Italian oil company, Agip.
The group, which has been silent for about a year now also claimed responsibilty for the attack at Ogbobagbene in Burutu local government area of Delta State, on the compound of Godsday Orubebe, Minister for Niger Delta two weeks ago.
A statement released by MEND to www.thetimesofnigeria.com and other international media organizations states:
“On Saturday the 4th of February at 1930hrs, fighters of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (M.E.N.D) attacked and destroyed the Agip trunk line at brass in Bayelsa State in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
“This relatively insignificant attack is a reminder of our presence in the creeks of the Niger Delta and a sign of things to come.
“We have constantly warned Nigerians about Goodluck Jonathan and his train of idiots running Nigeria. Events of the last few months have vindicated our position on the inability of this slowpoke to lead Nigeria anywhere but downwards.
“Rather than address serious issues facing the nation and its citizens, Goodluck Jonathan squanders public funds on tribalistic sycophants and thugs calling themselves ex-militants.
“Nigerians should disregard the idle threats and ranting of imaginary militant groups and other hired “Jonathan praise singers”. Besides empty talk, they are unable to help Jonathan in any way. In fact most so called ex-militants are hiding in Abuja or Lagos, not venturing near their villages in the Niger Delta.
“Our silence thus far, has been strategic and at the right time, we will reduce Nigerian oil production to zero and drive off our land, thieving oil companies. British petroleum is prepared to pay $25 billion compensation for the Gulf of Mexico oil spillage, yet for worse spillages in the Niger Delta; our people are paid with death at the hands of the Nigerian military.
“In the dark days to come, MTN, SACOIL, and other South African investments will pay a heavy price for the interference of Jacob Zuma in the legitimate fight for justice in the Niger Delta, by its people. The South African President has reduced himself to the position of a hired thug for Goodluck Jonathan.
“The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (M.E.N.D) understands the negative impact our assault on the Nigerian oil industry will have on the ordinary citizen in a country which relies almost entirely on one source of revenue.
“Unfortunately, the extremely irresponsible, floundering government of Nigeria is more concerned with enriching themselves and family members than attending to the problems of the Niger Delta and the continuously depreciating standard of living of the ordinary Nigerian.
“A government incapable of managing roads, refineries, power stations and other basic infrastructure is again squandering valuable public funds on a committee tasked with investigating the viability of nuclear energy for electricity generation.
“The government of Nigeria is incapable of safely disposing household refuse. How then do they plan to deal with the toxic by-product of nuclear energy? Nigerians must know that their ignoramus of a president is controlled by Obasanjo, Western nations, an imbecilic wife and an army of sorcerers.
“In this new phase of our struggle for justice, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (M.E.N.D) will pay considerable attention to dealing with security forces and traitorous indigenes of the Niger Delta.
“In this regard, MEND wishes to confirm that our fighters were responsible on the attack at Ogbobagbene in Burutu local government area of Delta State, on the compound of Godsday Orubebe, Minister for Niger Delta.
“The general public is again advised to take very seriously, any warnings of impending bombings. Such warnings will always precede a bombing, providing sufficient time for evacuation.
“Specific members of the security services and the media will in addition to email, receive notification of an impending attack, by SMS in order to minimize the possibility of civilian casualties.” The statement was signed by Jomo Gbomo. |

No nation on earth is altruistic or should be. Those who pretend to be, like one I won't mention, are just too weak, too corrupt or too lazy to assert themselves. America does not hide one fact - it will pursue what is in its interests. As far as I can see the American system, far from perfect, remains the most conducive to human progress on the planet today. When you know what you are doing and show yourself to be on the side of peace America can go out of its way to help you tremendously. Similarly, when you show yourself lazy and somewhat s.tupid they will take advantage of it if it is in their interest - who wouldn't. When you show yourself deadset on causing mayhem America will pursue you covertly, overtly and in any other way possible. Iran may be developing technologically, but the fatalistic mullahs at the head of the country are going to lead it to complete ruin if they don't stop their f.oolish march. Ahmajinaed, like Khaddafi, is crazy, but even more so. He keeps saying and demonstrating intention to "wipe off Israel off the map". What's more their religious fanatism causes them to link the political conflicts with Israel to the coming of a global conflagration heralding the 12th Imam. These are not the kind of people that should be at the head of a nation. Iran getting nuclear weapons would be the same as if Osama bin Laden got his wish of seizing Pakistan's arsenal. No side is perfect, but one side is committed to destroying the other and that other is irrevocably committed to defending itself till death. That spells an impending war in the middle-east in the next 4 or so months if things keep escalating like this. kalokalo: A lot of folks have unfortunately fallen victim to US psychological operations (read propaganda). a system where the victims of imperialist aggression by the US/Israel and its EU satellites have declared covert war on Iran and yet the victim is painted as bad.
Too many people depend on the western Bloc media for their news with their barefaced lies. Iran is a nation that has not attacked its neighbors in over 300 years and yet the world's big bully that is constantly waging wars on weaker nations is paranoid about Iran.
They subject target countries (Iraq, Libya, Serbia and now Iran) they want to invade to black propaganda to force consent from the global populace to their genocidal wars. Any one who thinks the US or Israel is noble or has altruistic motives should research their history from independent sources. Iran is perfectly rational in their responses. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: U.N. Security Council Fails To Pass Resolution On Syria! Loved It. by koruji(m): 4:40am On Feb 05, 2012 |
How contradictory can you get? You love that the UN could not pass a resolution asking a non-elected leader whose people have tired of rulership passing from father to son. Don't you see exactly why China and Russia will veto it? They are not trying to protect Syria's sovereignty the individuals that are monopolizing rulership in these two countries are trying to protect their selfish interest. China does not have a democracy. Russia on the other hand has a so-called democracy - for PUTIN till death. Putin was president for two terms, then exchanged that position to be prime minister. His plan, which is currently generating the Russian version of occupy Russia, is to once again exchange the prime minister position for the presidency. We know that China's pro-democracy protest is long-standing, but has gathered steam of recent. Forget about African rulers or the fact that the UN is just another bureaucracy, and focus on the Syrian people. So, is Russia and China given Assad the go ahead, after many months of opportunity to act different, to mow down the people that desire change from a feudalistic system. Assad fools himself if he fails to realize that the end is near. The only choice he has is either go peacefully or be given the Khaddafi treatment. Lasinoh: Thank God for these two countries. Thank God!!! donedy: The only people that I am sorry for are the Syria people who are caught in this mess. No government even United State would allow a group of thugs to cause havoc to the society!
I do not follow anything I see in CNN to make a judgement. If I use to see what's happening then make further research on the topic. If you ask a a typical newsreader he/she will the regime has been killing people. Go carry gun even in Lagos and see whether you will live to tell how many police did it to you. Before you criticize people, look at where you get those news, the people behind those propaganda.
I dey free sorry for Syria but all government has the right to protect it sovereignity from Thugs. |

Sure, Israel is engaged in massacres. What you are forgeting is that such massacres have been visited on Israel many times over. Their neighbours have pushed them into that "animalistic" state where the only thing they know is aggression. When one side is saying "wipe Israel off the map" then you must also understand it when the other says "The State of Israel faces threats, challenges and opportunities. We live in a tough environment. This isn't western Europe or North America. There is no mercy for the weak here, and no second chance for those who can't defend themselves," It is no longer about being just or fair, it is now about survival. Of course, who started it many many years ago is an open question, but the fact is that both sides have promised to destroy one another given the chance. Anything can happen. haka_nai: Kaczerginski-Cordova, Liliane (Paris, France) 2006 Executive Member of the socialist / anti-Zionist [anti-Israel] group, "European Jews for a Just Peace" [EJJP], "As Jews we will not make the same mistake which we have often blamed others for, silence about crimes against humanity, [however], we state loudly and clearly that the State of Israel, with these acts [massacres of Palestinians committed by the Israeli army in the Northern Gaza Strip], is desecrating the name and reputation of Jews everywhere, It is obvious and long overdue that the countries of Europe should break off friendly relations and trade ties with Israel as long as it does not adhere to basic human rights and continues its war crimes. The USA is the only one that has used nuclear weapons - and for good reason. Japan was like the Iran of today - dragging the US into a war it was trying to avoid by sneakily attacking Pearl Habor. The real lessons of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was that nations should stop building nuclear weapons. Instead the USSR escalated it after WWII and so did the USA until we had a MAD situation. In the last two decades or so the world realized the danger of a MAD situation - a pile of explosives of global proportions waiting for an ignition. Nations have agreed to stop developing these weapons and those possessing it are reducing the number, and securing it better. Iran is a signatory to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, but has decided to violate it. So that you don't think I am all on one side there was one reason why Iran intensified its nuclear efforts - although it was hidden for a long time. Bush frightened the Iranians by conducting two wars on their borders, but Iran shares a big part of the blame with its promotion of terrorists across the world. Iran has being officially trafficking weapons throughout West Africa. Iran is led by a fatalistic religious leaders in the mode of al qaeda and boko haram - that is the main difference from most of the countries you listed. Pakistan is almost in that category, but is not led, at least nominally, by a fanatic clergy. Iranian leaders are trying to make their "messianic" prophecy of the 12th Imam come true. Like the fools that die wasted deaths for non-existent 72 virgins, these leaders, driven by religious craziness, would not mind plunging the entire globe into a nuclear war - the 12th Imam, who is said to have gone into "occlusion" in the ninth century at the age of five, is supposed to return after a cosmic chaos, war and bloodshed. This is very similar to the God-King motivation behind Japan's craziness more than 50 years ago. haka_nai: All this foul cry by this nations is just to get some kind of international support based on fear.Has Russia used her nuclear to destroy USA (the only nation who has actually used one on Japan).Did North Korea ever use her own on the South?Has Pakistan or India used there own to annihilate each other?Has Israel used has to also level the middle east as she claims in any case of aggression? The examples i have sighted here simply show that Nuclear is for deterrent than any real use.Israel needs to be sure when ever she feels like flogging any nation in here sphere of influence they just turn and take the beating. With Iran having Nuclear or the air defense capability such as the S300 changing the balance. making another power emerge who doesn't suck up to them. So the story remains Iran this Iran that.Attacking US would be Irans greatest mistake.Like wise attacking Israel.Considering the Nuclear and international angle to it.So Iran actually if true they intend to build any,Just need something to tell this bullying nations to back off.If today Iran developed Nuclear capability they won't fight but will be best of buddies and dialogue at the table with respect for each other. Not like treats and bullying. That aside we need know how to make garri snack first. The treat never reach us yet in Africa, |

Really? How about this: On Wednesday, in a speech broadcast live on Iranian state television, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told a crowd of thousands that the Nazi destruction of European Jewry never happened. As he put it in October, Israel must be ''wiped off the map." And, vowed the president of the world's foremost state sponsor of terrorism, ''a new wave in Palestine will soon wipe off this disgraceful blot from the face of the Islamic world." Thus Ahmadinejad promises a second Holocaust even as he denies the first one. Dictators who talk about wiping nations from the face of the earth generally mean what they say. We should know by now that it isn't only Jews who are endangered by the mullahs and their threats. All of us are. And time is wasting. babaearly: Why can't they just leave Iran alone? They also have high end weapons too. But Iran hasn't made any threat to attack any of them yet so why the noise? |
