Abeg go siddon with that always about us approach.

If you guys are calling for demonstrations, what should people on the Jos Plateu call for? You and Ayo Oritsejafor know who is handling all these issues with kids gloves. Unfortunately he is also the same guy as your benefactor.

Wonders shall never end. Don't rally against subsidy removal if you don't rally against Boko Haram huh huh huh

You should be ashamed to use the issue of Boko Haram as a shield for GEJ and his dastardly approach to the subsidy issue. Many are the pains of the one making wrong decisions - leave Nigerians out of it - they are already on the receiving end of both BH and subsidy removal.

ShareThe hope of an early resolution to the ongoing impasse over the Federal Government’s removal of fuel subsidy was dashed on Saturday night as the government and labour negotiating teams were unable to reach a compromiseat their meeting held in the State House, Federal Capital Territoty (FCT), Abuja.

But government is hopeful that a solution acceptable to Nigerians will be found soon as it pledges to continue with negotiation with labour. However, the NLC president, Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, indicated that the threat by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) to shut down crude oil production would not materialise as he responded in the negative when the question was put to him.

The meeting broke up at about 11.15 p.m. with the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, telling State House correspondents that the ongoing strike would continue since no agreement had been reached.

According to him, “ we are going to continue our deliberations at our orgnaisation level and then, may be we will see the way forward.”

Answering question on whether there was a deadlock, he said “not deadlocked, but we have not reached a compromise.”

Omar revealed that labour insisted on temporary return of the pump price of petrol to N65 until “a new line of action” was agreed upon.

The Senate president, David Mark, who spoke on the government side, told reporters that there was no deadlock on the meeting, as he observed that both sides had shifted from the initial positions.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal agreed with Mark saying negotiations were painfully slow but ongoing.

The meeting, which started at about 8.00 p.m., took a break about 9:43 p.m. before reconvening for the concluding part.

It is also noteworthy that the labour team was about one hour late to the meeting which was concluded at about 11:35. p.m.

In the meeting were Senate president, David Mark; speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; Governors Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Peter Obi (Anambra), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Adams Oshiomhonle (Edo) and Liyel Imoke (Cross River).

There were also deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu; deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha; Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim; Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; as well as other ministers, including Mohammed Adoke (Attorney General and Minister of Justice), Diezani Allison-Madueke (Petroleum Resources), Dr. Olusegun Aganga (Trade and Investment), Bala Mohammed (Federal Capital Territory), Emeka Wogu (Labour), Labaran Maku (Information), and Mohammed Pate (state, health).

Others present were Ndoma Egba (Senate Leader), Abdul Ningi (Deputy Senate Leader), General Patrick Azazi (National Security Adviser) and Austin Oniwon (Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation).

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, and his counterpart in the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Peter Esele, led 16 other labour leaders that constitute the negotiating team to the meeting.

Earlier in the day, the NLC and the TUC had risen from their emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meetings and insisted on N65 per litre, saying, “on N65 we stand.”

To this end, the NEC sent the leadership of the two labour bodies to tell President Jonathan that they had not shifted on their initial position, which they said was the position held by the majority of Nigerian people and workers.

Both labour groups held their NEC meetings at different locations in the FCT and arrived at the same position that the Federal Government ought to revert to N65 per litre first before any negotiation could take place.

The NLC meeting, which started around 1.00 p.m., was held at the Labour House, while the TUC, which began its meeting earlier, held its at Chida Hotel.

Though, the NLC did not officially announce its decision after the meeting which ended at about 5.00 p.m, but sources at the meeting told Sunday Tribune that the NEC had resolved not back down from its demand for reversal to N65.

The sources said the NEC had directed the leadership of the congress to take its message to the president.

However, the NLC Head of Information, Comrade Chris Uyot, who addressed journalist after the NEC meeting, refused to disclose details of the deliberation.

He said, “After we harmonise the positions of both organisations, we will now have on a formal position. We are going to harmonise our positions because this struggle is being carried out by the NLC and TUC. So, until we harmonise our positions, we cannot come out with a formal position.

After we harmonise our positions, we will have a meeting with the government.”

The Convener of United Action for Democracy (UAD), Mr. Jaye Gaskiya, who spoke on behalf of civil society organisations (CSOs), disclosed that the civil society’s position was that the Federal Government suspended subsidy removal pending the conclusion of negotiations and investigations into the corruption surrounding the N1.3 trillion subsidy in the 2011 Appropriation Act.

Also, the Executive Director, African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development, Mr. Otive Igbuzor, who expressed support for the shut-down of the offshore production by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), noted that the union had exercised enough restraints to carry out its threat.

Igbuzor expressed concern over the high cost of living following the commencement of the removal of fuel subsidy and noted that workers could not afford the cost of transportation and the effect of the policy on other sectors of the economy.

The NLC and TUC leadership left for Presidential Villa meeting at about 6.00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allinso-Madueke, has defended her role in announcing the remoal of the subsidy by the Federal Government in the first instance.

In a statement issued on Saturday and made availableto journalists, Allinson-Madueke contended that, “in regards to several articles being posted about my role in the removal of fuel subsidy, I want to say that by Nigerian law, when government decides to change petroleum prices, the only ministry that can implement the policy is the Ministry of Petroleum Resources through the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) and this is why the announcement came from the PPPRA.”

This government and its supporters are so shortsighted. They engage in acts with very longterm and serious repercussions to achieve short term ends - the worst part is that they tend to fail at the end of the day, but the repercussions show up whether they want or not.

Raising and praising ND militants is GEJ and/or his advisers answer to the agony of the ordinary Nigerian over the wickedness of removing the subsidy so suddenly.

Forgetting that this same militants bombed GEJ's house before the 2007 elections, and the same militants started the destruction of his government by bombing Abuja. How can the same militants now be seen as a solution to GEJ's difficulties? Foolish government - ND militants are simply using the fuel subsidy as an excuse to re-group and re-arm - they need to appear to be on your side in order to do that. I don't know if dismantling this government is any part of this progression or not - and I don't support it or have any suggestions in that regard. What I am suggesting is that Nigeria is following a natural progression towards a state that fits its unsettled condition of being.

The best option would be for all sections of the country to acknowledge two things first of all: 1) that this condition was not by our design; 2) that disaster awaits if nothing is done under calm conditions to rearrange our setup.

Lastly, let me say that WOE BETIDES ANY MILITARY MAN THAT CUTS OFF THIS NATURAL PROGRESSION OF AN UNWORKABLE SYSTEM WITH A COUP. That would be the beginning of the disaster mentioned above. Whoever engages in this had better prepare to be target practice every waking moment of his remaining short life.

Unfortunately I don't share your optimism, and this is based on the fact that our leaders at most levels of governance act like kids. Add to that the fact that Nigeria's foundations are very shaky with many shadowy groups lurking for the right opportunity.

Nigeria is like conjoined septuplets. Each member is virtually complete, but with different firmness in different parts of the body. Separated, 1 or 2 of them MAY survive and live a healthy life and 5 or 6 will either die or live like vegetables. At the same time, their continuing conjoinment is way worse because not only does the seven often than not want to go in different directions , but even when they all agree on what to do and sincerely make an effort, it is difficult for 14 feet under the control of 7 different heads to work in unison.

In essence Nigeria's troubled is partly selfishness, partly by it design.

What do you do for this septuplets other than to separate them? Well, you could separate them into 7 different people and let the cards fall as it may, but you could also separate them into groups that will keep all seven alive, and at least allow them to function much better. This is Nigeria's choice.

ndu_chucks:
koruji, I am a bit more optimistic than you are. I want to believe that GEJ will take the bull by the horns and lead this country into a brighter future. If he fails in this aspect in the next couple of days, the people will rise up against government at all levels and GEJ or someone else will be forced to lead us towards true federalism. There is no alternative to ONE Nigeria.

May Allah transform GEJ into our MLK/Mandela or better yet, our very own heroic Ebele. I wish Ebele success in his duties and responsibilities. Insha Allah, we shall come out of this a better nation.  All those wishing death to Nigeria can go and hug transformers.

The cat is out of the bag, the game is up.

Plot against Jonathan’ll fail –Ex-militant leaders
By PAUL OSUYI, Asaba
Sunday, January 15, 2012

Repentant militants from the Niger Delta region have vowed to stake their lives to ensure that President Goodluck Jonathan is not removed from office by those they called frustrated politicians, before expiration of his tenure in 2015.
The former warlords said in a statement that the plot to chase Jonathan out of office under the guise of fuel subsidy removal protests was a well-calculated agenda to truncate the President’s tenure.

Former Niger Delta militant leaders are meeting in Port Harcourt to assess the mass protest across the country over removal of fuel subsidy. Chairman of the forum, General (Pastor) Reuben Wilson, said on Friday that those plotting removal of the President would fail. He said leaders of the various militant groups decided to mobilise for what he termed the great battle ahead, and they were ready to sink or swim with the President.

The President, according to Wilson, was on a mission to salvage the country by deciding to put an end to fuel subsidy in the country and undertake full deregulation of the petroleum sector. He said most of those mobilizing youths to the streets to protest the decision were already making their agenda known, one of which is to actualize the impeachment of the President.

“Of recent, we were made to understand that the minority in Nigeria cannot rule over the majority. Based on that, President Jonathan went through the valley of death to becoming Acting President and then President after the demise of the late Umaru Yar’Adua. We have not forgotten where these votes came from.

“We have also not forgotten that this same cabal made a pronouncement that if Jonathan wins, Nigeria would be made ungovernable during his tenure. This cabal has since been waiting in ambush to foment crisis,” they said.

The much trumpeted reason by the Nigerian government to attempt forcing water up mount Everest (removal of subsidy without adequate planning) is the fraud in the subsidy management system. You would think this is unique, but take a look at what happened in the USA.

The fact is that whereever there is a potential to get something for nothing there are risk takers anywhere who would try to take advantage, whether we are talking NIGERIA or the USA. But there are differences between the two countries:

1. A detailed documentation & monitoring system that enables a greaters than 50% chance than fraud would be detected - mind you not 100%
2. Top-notch law enforcement - by this I don't mean an ANGEL system, but the fact that no matter how "high and mighty" an offender may be he gets punished once caught.
3. Nobody in their right mind thinks the solution to this problem is to yank the program.

In reality all the above boils down to one difference - governments incompetence.

Enjoy.

Clean Green Fuel owner faces federal RIN fraud chargeshttp://www.biodieselmagazine.com/articles/8094/clean-green-fuel-owner-faces-federal-rin-fraud-charges

By U.S. Department of Justice | October 06, 2011

A criminal information was filed Oct. 3 charging Rodney R. Hailey, age 33, of Perry Hall, Md., with wire fraud, money laundering and a violation of the Clean Air Act, in connection with a scheme in which he allegedly sold $9 million in renewable fuel credits purportedly produced by his company, Clean Green Fuel LLC, when in fact the company did not produce any renewable fuel.

The criminal charges were announced by U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge David G. McLeod of U.S. EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division-Philadelphia Area Office; Postal Inspector in Charge Daniel S. Cortez of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service-Washington Division; Acting Special Agent in Charge Jeannine A. Hammett of the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation, Washington, D.C. Field Office; Special Agent in Charge Thomas Muskett of the EPA Office of Inspector General-Office of Investigations-Washington Field Office; U.S. Marshal for Maryland Johnny Hughes; and Chief James W. Johnson of the Baltimore County Police Department.

“The information alleges that as the owner of Clean Green Fuel LLC, Rodney Hailey, specialized in producing 38-digit ‘renewable identification numbers,’ each of which supposedly corresponded to the production of two-thirds of a gallon of biodiesel fuel; in fact, he allegedly sold more than 32 million RINs for over $9 million,” said U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein. “Oil companies bought RINs in order to comply with EPA regulations requiring them to support the production of renewable fuel. However, the information alleges that in reality Mr. Hailey did not produce any renewable fuel; he just made up RINs.”

According to the criminal information, Rodney Hailey was the owner of Clean Green Fuel LLC, with several locations in the Baltimore area. Hailey registered Clean Green Fuel with the EPA as a producer of biodiesel fuel, a motor vehicle fuel derived from renewable resources that can be used like any other motor vehicle fuel.

In order to encourage the production of renewable fuel and lessen the nation’s dependence on foreign oil, all oil companies that market petroleum in the U.S. are required to produce a given quantity of renewable fuel or to purchase credits, called renewable identification numbers (RINs) from producers of renewable fuels to satisfy their renewable fuel requirements.

The criminal information alleges that between March 2009 and December 2010, Hailey sold over 32 million RINs (representing 22 million gallons of biodiesel fuel) to brokers and oil companies for at least $9 million, when in fact Clean Green Fuel had produced no fuel at all. According to the criminal information, Hailey did not have a facility capable of producing biodiesel fuel and his business operation consisted solely of generating false RINs on his computer and marketing them to brokers and oil companies.

Hailey allegedly used the proceeds of the wire fraud scheme to purchase luxury vehicles, including BMWs, Mercedes Benz’, a Rolls Royce Phantom, a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati and others, as well as real estate and jewelry. According to the information, during the investigation Hailey made numerous false statements to EPA investigators, including that he manufactured the fuel from waste vegetable oil collected from 2,700 restaurants.

Finally, the criminal information seeks the forfeiture of over $9 million, alleged to be the proceeds of the scheme.

Hailey faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for wire fraud; 10 years in prison for money laundering and two years in prison for violating the Clean Air Act. An initial appearance and arraignment are scheduled for Oct. 13, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. before U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles, Jr.

A criminal information is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by criminal information is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceedings.

For their work in this investigation, United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein praised the members of the District of Maryland Asset Forfeiture/Money Laundering Task Force, including the U.S. Marshals Service, the Baltimore County Police Department and IRS-Criminal Investigation; and the EPA Criminal Investigation Division, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and EPA Office of Inspector General-Office of Investigations. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Assistant United States Attorneys Stefan Cassella and Tonya Kelly Kowitz, who are prosecuting the case.

"Someone about to be roasted is greasing himself with palmoil" - Enough said.

Written by Idowu Samuel, Abuja Saturday, 14 January 2012

Indications are rife that the Federal Government is not happy with the Lagos State government on the open ended opportunity being enjoyed by protesters in his state against the removal of fuel subsidy, and had hence queried the governor on the growing confidence of the protesters.

The government handed over the query to the Lagos State governor, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, during a closed door meeting it had with organised labour which had in attendance some select governors, including Fashola.

Lagos has been offering a great source of inspiration to anti-subsidy protesters from across the federation, owing to the huge crowd it exhibits on daily basis at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Square at Ojota, Lagos where anti subsidy protest is being held daily since Monday.

The high caliber of eminent Nigerians, who have been attending the rally in Lagos buoyed by the presence of Nollywood actors and actresses, big time Lagos-based musicians, religious leaders, professionals and committed artisans, had made the protests in Lagos tick, causing some shock waves in government circles.

Some presidency officials in a chat with Saturday Tribune disclosed that the need by the government to have words with Fashola on the dimension of protests in Lagos necessitated his enlistment in the select committee of state governors who had dialogue with the organised labour.

Officials of the government at the special meeting with the Labour union leaders had reportedly expressed dismay at the dimension of the anti-fuel subsidy protests in Lagos and hence berated the governor for his inability to temper the tension by refusing members of the Save Nigeria Group (SNG) led by Pastor Tunde Bakare the free leverage it has been having all along.

Insiders at the meeting told Saturday Tribune that a well prepared Fashola had harangued the government officials on the manner of handling protests of a huge magnitude, disclosing to them that his government was all along vigilant about every movement of the protesters in Lagos and had devised the means of making them act peacefully.

The Lagos governor, according to reports, was vehement in declaring that democracy forbids any government to clamp down on protesters, a reason the Lagos State government resolved to manage the protests by ensuring security of lives and property, while also discouraging acts of arson and vandalism by protesters.

Fashola reportedly told the officials of government that having provided security cover for protesters and other logistics including ambulances, fire fighting equipment and a constant dialogue with the arrow heads, no one should expect the Lagos protests to degenerate into chaos.

ACN is led by smart men and they are simply trying to anticipate the FG. And in this case, even though it sounds absurd, it is not beyond the eggheads in PDP. Why you ask?

Remember when Lagos had the floods. Instead of jumping in with relief materials and help to rescue those trapped, what did the FG do?

Well, first they told Lagos to apply to the Ecological fund for help!!!!!! Then the so-called senate president David Mark and the Lagos PDP asked GEJ to declare a state of emergency.

Bombs were going off in Jos, in Borno, everywhere, but PDP did not think that warranted a state of emergency - but the floods did. Hmmmm why was a state of emergency so attractive to PDP in Lagos? Well, what does a state of emergency allow the FG to do? It allows the FG to remove the government of the state at any level and replace it with their stooges. That was their original aim. PDP controls most of those state where bombs were going off, but not Lagos where an act of nature is responsible for temporary difficulties.

So you see, it is not paranoia - it is a case of knowing in whose hands the affair of the nation is held hostage to political, moral and monetary corruption.

The Action Congress of Nigeria has raised the alarm over an alleged plan by the Federal Government to send thugs to create chaos in Lagos State to allow it to declare a state of emergency in the state.

A statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Thursday warned the Federal Government to allow the Nigerian people to continue their peaceful protests or revert to the old petrol price in order to bring the protest to an end.

ACN said the alleged plan was a “desperate measure by the Federal Government to frustrate and to ensure a clampdown on peaceful citizens of the state in legitimate protests.”

The party said, “Since the fuel strike started, we have noted aggressive statements from the government. We have reasons to believe the not-too-subtle threats are a precursor to something sinister.

“While we abhor violence as an instrument of protest, we must warn that issuing military-era threats are not compatible with a democratic dispensation.”

ACN said the protesters had been conducting themselves in an impressive manner, saying there was no need to infiltrate their ranks with thugs.

Also, the Lagos chapter of the party advised protesters not to allow hoodlums to take advantage of the protests to loot and destroy public property.

In a statement by the state publicity secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, on Thursday, the party expressed concern that hoodlums had infiltrated the protesters and resorted to looting and destruction of public property.

The party said, “Since the protest started, the country has been losing close to N160bn daily. It will be too much if we allow looting and destruction of public infrastructure and property to add to the huge loss.

“Lagos ACN is joining the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Federal House of Representatives to plead that President Jonathan reverts to N65 per litre and from there the genuine dialogue will start.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has advised protesters to remain law-abiding.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (Admn), Mr. Azubuko Udah, during a meeting with Commissioners of Police in Lagos on Thursday, also warned protesters to desist from burning tyres on the roads.

He said anyone caught doing such would be arrested. The DIG said, “The Police have no problem with organised labour and civil society groups. Our job is to maintain security until protests end.

“However, it has been observed that hoodlums have tried to mar the protest. We are warning against bonfires, burning of tyres and the attempts to create an atmosphere of anarchy.

“Anyone caught vandalising properties, extorting money from people or burning tyres on the road will be arrested.”

On the killer Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Segun Fabunmi, the DIG said, “We have taken proper action and the homicide unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department is investigating and once the investigation is completed, we shall take the next action.”

peckhamboi:
This is a widespread appeal to men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces to put an end to this misguided attempt at democracy led by Jonathan.

All indications suggest such attempt would enjoy widespread appeal provided their basic agenda includes.

1. Outlawing the corruption prone Presidential system and reverting the country to a parliamentary democracy within 10 months.

2. All parliament members are part-time workers with no salary, only attendance benefits that must not exceed 5 times the minimum wage, and absolutely no benefits.

3. Power is devolved to the regions and 100% resource control with all regions paying taxes to the feds.

4. All government appointees salaries and allowances is pecked to that of the highest paid civil servant including the prime minister.

Once again to the men of the Army, we support you.

That is what they don't understand. There are no shortcuts to development.

In particular, you cannot transfer water from one barrel to the other and expect it to double in size - in reality you would end up with less than a barrel. Let's even say that Nigerians accepted the increase without any argument, what then? With the level of corruption in the system and the already widespread stealing of crude the incentive to steal and refine crude on the domestic market just doubled. Stealing subsidies on imports will get replaced by stealing crude refining it illegally or legally, and selling it for a handsome profit. The oil thieves are busy at work as we speak, while GEJ's goons murder Nigerians.

The saddest part of it is that our is history is full of government attempts to force water up mount everest like this - it doesn't work.

Jay5000:
No Economic policy, no matter how good it looks on paper, will work in a nation where individuals can pocket billions and get away with it. The only thing the deregulation is going to achieve is double digit inflation (effectively devaluing the currency and making the nation poorer) and more looting. As for the sale of PHCN, and all the others BPE sold in OBJ's regime, these guys build up these corporations with your money,  sabotage these corporations continually, and then turn around and tell you that the only way it can work is if it is privatized. At the end of the day, the same cabal purchases them for peanuts with your stolen billions and yet Nigerians celebrate because of the years of engineered frustration PHCN and the likes have subjected Nigerians to. It's pure and simple propaganda; a classical case of problem-reaction solution. Try googling the phrase "Hegelian Dialectic".  It'll better explain how the global elite use these left-right, Christian-Muslim, regional and ethnic divisions to manipulate humanity into helping them achieve predetermined ends. It didn't start today, and unless we educate ourselves and break out of that dialectic, we will forever be slaves to the ruling elite.

Hhmmmm. . .GEJ's government described in Mubarak terms.

Nigerian protestor: 'I'm ready to die'

Lagos, Nigeria (CNN) -- Two Nigerian trade unions accused the country's president of using "armed thugs" to attack protesters, and urged demonstrators to continue their nationwide strike against high fuel prices on Wednesday and beyond.

"In a Mubarak-style response to the peoples' protests, the Jonathan administration brought into Abuja, thugs armed with various weapons including guns," the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria said in a joint statement late Tuesday night.

The unions were comparing President Goodluck Jonathan to former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who is accused of ordering security forces to fire on protesters in Egypt last year.

"Labour warns the Presidency that it will be held responsible for whatever atrocities these thugs commit," the statement said. "We call on Nigerians to continue the strikes, rallies and protests ,  Wednesday ,  and subsequent days until the Jonathan government listens to the voice of the Nigerian People."

Wednesday will mark day three of the strike, which was spurred by a government decision to remove fuel subsidies -- a move that resulted in more than doubled fuel prices in the largely impoverished country.

So far, clashes have left at least 16 people dead and 205 injured, according to a tally collected by the Nigerian Red Cross Tuesday.

The strike, continued religious violence in the north and a long-simmering separatist movement are all issues that have created growing problems for Jonathan and fueled tensions on the street.

The southern state of Edo was a focus for much of the violence, according to the Red Cross, with five people killed and 83 injured.

"Revolution has come to Nigeria and the youth will spearhead it. Until our demands are met, we are ready to protest every day and make sacrifice," said Eromo Egbejule, a Nigerian freelance journalist.

Other violence erupted in northern Nigeria Tuesday and Wednesday, although it was unclear whether the incidents were related to the strike.

In Yobe state, four people died Wednesday after two gunmen on a motorcycle stopped next to a car filling up at a gas station and opened fire on the occupants in the town of Potiskum, about 600 kilometers northeast of Abuja, said Lawan Tanko, Yobe state police commissioner.

"We don't know if it's Boko Haram or other criminal elements," he said. "We are still investigating." The victims' ethnic groups had not been confirmed, he said.

Boko Haram, a shadowy militant Islamic group that is said to favor strict Sharia law, is frequently blamed for sectarian violence.

Also in Yobe state, eight people drinking in an open-area bar, including a police officer, were shot to death Tuesday by several unidentified gunmen in Potiskum, Tanko said. The gunmen opened fire without announcing their presence, he said.

No one has claimed responsibility, and police are not sure who was behind the attack, he said.

In a recent address, Jonathan tried to explain the need for ending the subsidies, telling Nigerians that the government would invest the money in the country's crumbling infrastructure.

"My fellow Nigerians, the truth is that we're faced with two basic choices with regards to the management of the petroleum sector," Jonathan said. "Survive economically or continue with a subsidy regime that will continue to undermine our economy."

Some analysts say the changes could help Nigeria in the future.

"If they're prepared to try this petroleum subsidy removal then perhaps they can push through electricity reform too. If they do that, Nigeria's growth can be instead of 7%-8% a year, 10% or 11%," said Charlie Robertson, a chief economist at the global investment firm Renaissance Capital.

But assurances from the president did not allay fears from many Nigerians who do not trust the government to use the money to improve the country's infrastructure.

Many Nigerians view the subsidy as the only benefit of living in an oil-producing country that has little infrastructure, poor roads, high unemployment and intermittent electric power.

"Though we know that in the long run, removal of (the) subsidy will help the economy, for now it is a high-profile lifestyle that is unbearable for most Nigerians, and soon the poorer ones will die out," said protester Diane Awunah.

I think what is happening here is the kind of thing you seen in sports. The first offender is often not seen, but when the victim retaliates he gets the yellow card.

However, this is not a game. If you want know why Beaf deserves all of what he gets, just look at his posts. You will find that more than 90% of his posts since GEJ was sworn-in are completely unbelievable. The more you try to reason with him the more he cobbles together incredible lies and repeats it like a robot forgeting that he is not the only one with an internet connection.

I hope Beaf will behave so we won't be spending time on these useless wars - but if he doesn't "repent" then I am sorry that he will get what is due to him.

Kobojunkie:
Language is unlike me? You definitely do not know . . . . lol. . . . I am proper, mostly, but I don't think I am too born again to EXPRESS myself when I want to. lol

Of course, I have an axe to grind with you and so many others who have chosen to turn Nairaland Politics section to a "WHO CAN INSULT BEAF BEST" centre. Every other thread is turned upside down by you and your gang 80% of the time. Other times you find newbies coming in to pretend them curse them from home with the guy and his issues and if they do not change him that very minute, e no better for them.

The dude is not Goodluck Jonathan. You may not like it but he has a right to his views, whether sycophantic or not. However, you knowing this view for well over 2 years now, but choosing to go, practically on every thread, on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on   . . . . Ah Kobojunkie, that language is unlike you now. Is it? I was just joking abou the jealous thing o.

You obviously have an axe to grind with me. If it is something I said, please don't take it personally. Seriously.

Get back at me if you must, but don't waste your time on behalf of that chameleon that calls himself Beaf.

In reality, this thread was not directed at Beaf but GEJ and all the NLers that Beaf personified (that is why I used Beafs). They are the only ones who have benefited from this mess created by GEJ. GEJ himself is losing on all sides, but these hanger-ons were having such a great time of their lifes even as policemen shot & killed Nigerians one after the other.

Kobojunkie:
Yes, I am absolutely jealous of someone who has "I AM DESPERATE FOR ATTENTION FROM THIS CHARACTER, AND WILL GO AS FAR AS TO SO I CREATE THREADS WITH HIS NAME AS A WAY OF INSULTING HIM INTO A BATTLE WITH ME, OR POST REASONS TO FIGHT WITH THE CHARACTER, RATHER THAN SIMPLY IGNORE" syndrome.

You are abso-f**king-lutely brilliant!!!  WOW . . . why didn't I figure that out. I am jealous! grin grin grin grin grin grin

That it is not pointless can be seen from the strong reaction of GEJs supporters. It hits them where it hurts but not even enough because they have actually caused the loss of innocent lives while sitting in their comfortable surroundings propagating life & death propaganda.

Please ask him. He didn't transform the economy with N6 trillion that was actually real extra resources yet he is selling this crock about a mere transfer of funds. It is like saying u can double the water in barrel transfering half of it to an empty barrel.

VoodooDoll:
GEJ and the N6 trillion hole.  Did the cabal steal it or did govt eat it?

Under GEJ as a member of the executive team Nigeria external reserves have dropped by US$20bn or N3 trillion Naira and he has also increased our domestic debt by N3trillion.  A total of N6 trillion has left Govt but with nothing to show for it.

I do hope an explanation can be provided, especially as Nigeria earned at least $150bn since 2007 to 2011 at a rate of $30bn per annum

Facts:
External reserve drop: US$20bn or N3 trillion
Domestic debt increase: N3trillion

Total value lost: N6 trillion

Answers on a post card.

@Poster, when do you plan to get over this serious hard-on for this dude that you have had since you joined Nairaland? Every freaking thread you go on and on about him as if you could not do without him joining you on there. You try so so hard to engage him on every single thread you get on. You and so many others have been obsessed with it for so long now, and complain as if it is being forced on you.
