The governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has gifted Anambra Traditional rulers with a Brand New IVM Ikenga SUV, today, September 4th, 2020.

The presentation ceremony which held at Ekwueme Square Awka, Anambra State was attended by many guests who were awed and chanted happily as the cars drove into the square.

The IVM Ikenga which is totaled to 126 cars(One hundred and twenty-six cars) was presented in the presence of distinguished guests and some of the traditional rulers including the Speaker of the state Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor, Traditional Rulers’ Council led by its Chairman, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Igwe K.O.N Orizu III, former Governors Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Dame Virgy Etiaba, Senator Victor Umeh, National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Oye, Former CBN Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, members of the state executive council, civil servants, among others.

From city corners to village squares; from street to street, different betting companies and their outlets, which increases exponentially almost daily, are hustling the patronage of millions of young Nigerians with a promise of quick wealth. The expectation on the part of the players is high and tenacious, their desperation terrific, they want to “hit it big” with as little money as possible.

Everybody in Nigeria seems to want to make big money, with little or no money at all. Stories of how a certain bet player won big money the other day after he played with a few hundred Naira or maybe a few thousand but won millions, dot the place much to the admiration of bet enthusiast as they grin in the assurance that it could be them, the next time.

In most cases, not a single person can point to this person most so eagerly tell their success story of making it and winning big. But, they can point to a handful of people who have won a few thousands after playing with a few hundred. However, they can hardly point to anyone who has won big money, even as they all hope to win big someday. It’s a whole lot of outrageous hope on nothingness.

These days, it is convenient for young men to spend their entire day hanging out in a betting outlet, playing with as little money as they have, and expecting to win as many millions as it is possible for them to imagine. Even in remote villages, sights of bet shops abound and are usually filled by young men who are playing to win big like the other man who was said to have won millions the other day, which no one can identify. For the most part, betting has been mainstreamed such that saying you do not play bet, sounds like saying you do not want money. There is this shock and surprise that often grip bet players upon hearing that one does not play bet; maybe they cannot understand why one cannot “invest” a few hundreds of Naira to make millions. But I do not understand why I should make millions for “investing” only a few hundreds of Naira. What I do know is that when a few thousand people “invest” a few hundreds of Naira playing bet, it is the bet company that makes millions from their desperation and greed and not bet players reaping where they did not sow.

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM), Chief Dr. Innocent Chukwuma has urged young Nigerian entrepreneurs to learn from the failures of their mentors and other entrepreneurs.

The Lawmaker Representing Nnewi North in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor has called for the upgrade of Nkwo Nnewi to International Market Standard.

According to the Lawmaker, despite generating a huge revenue to both traders and government, the market is currently suffering obvious infrastructural decay, which if not addressed, will stunt the further development of the market.

Nonso Okafor who made the call while moving a motion on the need for the upgrade of the market on the floor of Anambra State House of Assembly said that with an estimated annual turnover of $1billion, (about N360billion), Nkwo Nnewi is not only a strategic market in Anambra State but also in Nigeria, noting that the market has propelled the development of the local economy and the present mini industrial economy in Nnewi.

Nkwo Nnewi traders groan over terrible roads

While presenting the motion, the young lawmaker revealed that that apart from being jam-packed in a small enclave, traders and customers are finding it difficult to easily access the market due to the astronomical growth of business activities in the market and environs.

He highlighted that most of the roads in the market especially the access and link roads that make the movement of goods and people easy within the market is in bad shape, saying that the market is also lacking water supply, parking lots, stable electricity, equipped fire station, warehouses, police post, clinic, administration block, streetlights, public toilet system and security gadgets.

He argued that the infrastructural decay of the market is a serious challenge to the realization of the full potential of the market, noting that traders in the market are losing their customers to other markets, thereby making it difficult for the realisation of more Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from the market.

He urged the Governor to upgrade Nkwo Nnewi Market by building the needed infrastructure and also discuss with the operators on the need for the development of a Master Plan for the market.

Several communities in Anambra state are on the verge of crisis because of continued leadership of town union after expiration of the term of office of many Presidents’ General in Anambra State. In many of these communities, the caretaker system alien to the communities have been imposed as a way to maintain the status quo in flagrant violation of the towns’ constitution and this we gathered is brewing bad blood that may degenerate any moment into crisis, in the affected communities.

This development further extends to the Chief Alex Onukwue led Executive whose tenure as National President of Anambra State Association of Town Union – ASATU – which is the umbrella association of town unions in Anambra state, has since 27th May 2020 expired.

“In ASATU, out of the twenty-eight Executive Members, not up to eight are active President-General in their respective towns. Over 90% of ASATU executive members as of today, are not even PGs of their town union because their tenures have elapsed, but they are still in ASATU as leaders”, said a concerned PG who do not want to be mentioned. It is not clear if the governor is aware of these developments.
The genesis of this anomaly was blamed largely on the novel pandemic which resulted to the postponement of scheduled ASATU election, including the women and youth wings and some town union elections, which then unavoidably Sin the inevitable illegal overstay in office by many PGs and some now introducing caretaker which in most places have resulted to the town union not being able to function, much so that they are not able to hold meetings simply because the people are against the leadership.

The Senator Ifeanyi Ubah led Anambra Progressives has shunned Nigeria’s only vehicle manufacturing company, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing(IVM), and has purchased foreign medical ambulances, for the launching of the two (2) isolation centres built by the group in Awka and Nnewi.

The pictures and videos of the delivery of the two (2) Japanese medical ambulances were shared proudly on social media by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah's media team.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah who is representing Anambra South Senatorial District hails from Nnewi, the same town and base of Innoson vehicles and the founder, Chief Innocent Chukwuma.

It will be recalled that Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who won the Anambra South Senatorial election with the campaign slogan of "The Recovery of Igbo Economy" was alleged to have frustrated the plans of Nigeria Senate on the purchase of Innoson Vehicles.

This was brought to the front burner when the Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District, Senator Chukwuka Utazi condemned some Nigerians, especially those from the South-East origin, who have the penchant attitude of criticizing and blackmailing Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) brand and the founder, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, because of local politics.

While making his presentation, Senator Ubah who represents Anambra South who was visibly angry was heard at the background attacking the comments of Senator Utazi.

According to sources in the Nigerian Senate, the 2021 Anambra State Governorship Hopeful, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah kicked against the purchase of Innoson vehicles claiming that since he is the Senator representing the Senatorial District of Chief Innocent Chukwuma (Innoson), he should be lobbied by Chief Chukwuma to promote the vehicle brand.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s recent action puts to questions his sincerity on his so-called recovery of Igbo Economy, which has been his campaign mantra.

The Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government, Rt. Hon. Engr. Prince Chukwudi Orizu, has refuted reports that he has thrown his hat into the ring for the 2021 Anambra Governorship race.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Hon. Chukwudi who is also the son of Igwe Nnewi, His Royal Highness, Igwe Kenneth Orizu, categorically stated he has never had discussions with anyone in which he expressed, let alone sought support for a Governorship aspiration.

The Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano, has announced the suspension of the Traditional Ruler of Ukwulu Town, His Royal Highness, Igwe Peter A. Uyanwa (Eze Dike)
In a statement signed by Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Greg Obi, based on the powers given to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Anambra State under Section 10 (B) of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Law 1981, the Traditional Ruler of Ukwulu is being suspended for a period of one (1) year, effective from Friday, July 24th, 2020.

It said the sanction may be lifted at the end of one year or renewed or upgraded in the intervening period depending on the government’s review of Igwe Uyanwa’s conduct.

The statement further directed Igwe Uyanwa to stop holding himself out as a traditional ruler and to cease from discharging traditional ruler’s function in Ukwulu community, or elsewhere in the state and beyond.

Unknown Gunmen in the early hours of this morning invaded the house of the Traditional Ruler of Umudim Nnewi, His Highness, Obi Benneth Okafor (Amaukwu).

According to reports made available to Anaedoonline.com, the gunmen who are suspected to be officers of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SACS) of Nigeria Police Force, broke into the residence of the Traditional ruler at about 002:43 am.

The gunmen who were not in any uniform and masked, jumped the fence, broke the key of the entrance door and took the son of the traditional ruler, Miracle Chibuike Okafor.

While reports of the invasion have been reported to Nnewi Police Command, the whereabout of the son of the traditional is yet to be known.
