Manchidede: Ahead of the November 13 governorship election in Anambra State, the rumour of financial inducement to Catholic priests to say Novena Masses for one of the candidates in the state has created confusion among the faithful and the priesthood. It was gathered that a text message allegedly sent to Catholic priests in the state by unidentified people, asked them to pray for the ambition of a candidate, with the text saying that the priests should expect some stipends for their efforts, an effort seen as geared towards exploiting the massive influence of the Catholic Church in the state. .html
Baba_nl: Wife of the traditional ruler of Abba- Igogoro in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, Igwe Omale Nwogbo, Adiza, has been kidnapped by unknown persons who invaded her home last week. The woman was kidnapped few days after some armed men invaded the palace and inflicted machete cuts on her husband before shooting at three other persons with him in his palace at about 8pm. According to police sources, the traditional ruler was meeting with some people in his Igogoro palace when the gunmen struck and reportedly shot one Joshua Urama at the back while Igwe Ogbo himself, Emmanuel Tobechukwu Idoko and Sunday Ogbo sustained injuries on their heads and faces. Igwe Ogbo was said to have been reportedly given three machete cuts on his head. The attack took place at a time members of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the local government were holding the Ward Congress at Enugu Ezike to elect delegates for last Saturday’s local government congress to elect chairmanship candidates for the local government election slated later in the year. Igwe Nwogbo and and the other victims who sustained serious bullet wounds, were later rushed to the Bishop Shanahan Hospital Annex in Enugu Ezike, the council headquarters for urgent medical attention. However, Adiza, 85, was abducted by some people who reportedly claimed to have come from the neighbouring Isugwu community, exactly four days after her husband was attacked in his palace. The police were still trying the unravel the reasons behind the attack on Igwe Ogbo when his wife was abducted. Adiza’s son and former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in the state, Prince Goddy Ogbo confirmed in a telephone interview with Saturday Vanguard yesterday that his aged mother was abducted by unknown persons who invaded his father’s palace on motorcycles. According to him, his old mother was forcefully taken away on one of the motorcycles as she shouted, ”blood of Jesus; blood of Jesus about two weeks ago.” The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in EnuguState, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident yesterday, but stressed that he had no details of Adiza’s abduction, even as Prince Ogbo said that his family had not established any contacts with the abductors since the incident. If i start with you, you will need the help of the MODs i promise you! Back to topic. Of all the past Governors, only Peter Obi saw it fit to at least build two mini-stadiums in Onitsha. Give him that credit. At least most Onitsha youths use the stadiums and are grateful.

Ifeanyi Ubah is slowly but surely winning my votes. Exposing the fraud called Peter Obi is a task that must be done and he is getting it done, first by calling Obi's community chief to denounce and then this video (All over national media) that will surely put Obi in bad light. I'm making contacts to get the video and post it here but if you get it before me, do post it.

All those campaigning for him should tell us if they will allow someone like him to manage their personal finance. If you hear that ifeanyi uba is now the ceo of the bank you save your money, won't you go and withdraw all your money?
Why then do u want the resources of anambra state to be handed over to someone with such a profile? It is simply because they are selfish and don't have the interest of anambra pple in their agenda.

Sincere 9gerian: All these unnecessary cries about Soludo must stop. Yes, I was all for Soludo initially but now he is no longer a candidate and we must choose from the existing candidate. Soludo must also share in the blame for his failure at the primary election. No matter how good you are as a person or politician, you have to play the right politics. Where else in the world do you join a political party at the 11th hour and expect to crowned the party's candidate? That can only happen if you'r a compromise candidate of the power brokers in the party. Unfortunately, Soludo was not this time around. I will once again urge Soludo to remain in APGA or any other political party of his choice and join hands with the leaders of the party to grow the party. That way, he may earn confidence of the leaders of the party, enough to be a serious contender in the subsequent elections.
As for the upcoming election, we must say NO to Ifeanyi Ubah. I've not seen a more fraudulent campaign all my life. Can you imagine, the guy is promising heaven on earth if elected- modern railways, 24/7 power supply, etc. The ignoramus is promising to deliver even in areas state governors have not control over. To make matter worse: -Ifeanyi Ubah is a chronic illiterate - Ifeanyi Ubah is loud and lives an extra-vagant lifestyle. If elected, he'll use Anambra wealth to sustain his expensive life style. - Ifeanyi Ubah's company is in serious debt crisis. Perhaps he hopes to use the state's resources to settle some or all of his debt. Ifeanyi Ubah can only be summarized in one word- FRAUD.
Andy Uba is another clueless, fraudulent and chronic illiterate who should not be allowed to smell Awka govt house.
The other PDP candidate (Tony Nwoye), has a bad history and antecedent right from his days as a student union leader. But he is a lesser devil when compared to Andy Ubah and Ifeanyi Ubah.
Chris Ngige is a discredited politician. He and his masters manipulated and STOLE the votes of Anambrarians in 2003. In trying to free himself from his masters, he embarked on massive road construction to impress the people. Well, that worked. But for the 3 years he was in charge, the health sector, education and other sectors were ABANDONED. Governance is much more than building roads. He has been in the senate for about 2 years with NOTHING to show. To make matters worse, Ngige supported the recent Fashola's satanic deportation of Nigerians in their fatherland. Well, my verdict is that Ngige is better than Ifeanyi Ubah and Andy Ubah. He may also be possibly better than Tony Nwoye (possibly because Tony Nwoye has not been tested).
Willie Obiano is the only candidate coming from a background of a very SUCCESSFUL and un-blemished career in the private sector (worked at a multinational oil company and Fidelity Bank). He appears a simple and unassuming personality. Those who have something against him during his stints in the private sector should feel free to let us know. But for now, he is my prefered candidate. He is my FIRST CHOICE.

L.M Ayedun..: President makes concessions to end PDP crises
Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi is to be recalled from suspension, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) source told The Nation yesterday.
This is one of the four concessions made by President Goodluck Jonathan to the Group of Seven governors (G7) at a meeting on Sunday.
But the President was said to have been adamant on 2015, insisting that he never said he would not seek re-election.
He claimed that what he said in Ethiopia was that he would not be a party to tenure elongation.
Despite the concessions, the G-7 governors and the Kawu Baraje-led New PDP are taking their case to the House of Representatives.
They want to brief the leadership of the House on what led to the party’s factionalisation.
According to sources, who spoke on the peace talks at the Presidential Villa, the meeting was “conciliatory”.
One of the sources said: “For the first time, the meeting was conciliatory; there was no tension on all issues, unlike the case at the previous sessions.”
The President came to the meeting with Vice-President Namadi Sambo; the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Obong Godswill Akpabio; the governors of Kogi and Cross River states, Capt Idris Wada and Liyel Imoke.
On the side of the G-7 were the governors of Adamawa, Niger, Rivers, Kwara, Sokoto, Jigawa and Kano
“There were preliminary talks on why it is important to keep the party united. The President said his disposition was that ‘whatever is going on is a family fight which could be amicably resolved’. He spoke as a leader with national interest above all other considerations.
“Everyone also spoke on the fact that the issues at stake could be well-managed,” the source said.
All issues were reportedly treated one after the other. The President and his team made the following concessions:
•immediate lifting of the suspension of Governor Rotimi Amaechi by the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP;
•return of party structures to all the governors, including those of Rivers and Adamawa states;
•raising a committee to visit Rivers State, like it was the case with Adamawa State, to build consensus and restore party structure to the governor; and the
•the governors and party leaders should leave Jonathan to decide Tukur’s fate. One of the aggrived governors’ conditions for peace is Tukur’s removal
On the 2015 poll, another source quoted the President as saying: ‘I did not give anybody any commitment that I won’t seek re-election.”
The source said: “Jonathan clarified that what he said in Ethiopia was that as a democratic leader, he would not elongate his tenure under any guise. He said since the crisis in the party was basically on 2015, it is a matter that can be addressed later.
“His body language suggested that he won’t compromise his ambition to contest in 2015. But it was not a major issue yet at the peace talks.”
Responding to a question on the feasibility of the concessions, another source said: “The President appeared willing, except that when it came to the crisis in Rivers PDP, he said they were ready to return the executives of the party but they needed to set up a committee that will go to the state to reunite all the stakeholders.
“The President was, however, straightforward on the recall of Amaechi from suspension when he said his team could ‘announce the lifting of the suspension right away’”
Sensing the caveat on Rivers PDP, Amaechi simply said: “Don’t lift my suspension, until everything is settled,” it was learnt.
On Tukur, the source added, the President did not make any categorical statement or commitment on Tukur, although he admitted that there was a sign of weakness on some issues on the part of Tukur.
The aggrieved governors reportedly said Jonathan could bring anyone to lead the party, except Tukur. Amaechi is expected to withdraw all cases in court, respect the Presidency and party leadership. The media “war” should stop because the crisis is heating up the polity and inflammatory comments capable of dividing the country should be avoided, the meeting was said to have agreed.
It was learnt that when the 2015 agenda came up, the President took on the Governor of Niger State, Dr. Babangida Aliyu.
A source said he pointedly accused Aliyu of misleading Nigerians that he said he would not seek a second term in office.
The source added: “At a stage, it became a matter between Jonathan and Aliyu at the meeting because the President felt bad that the governor had been hammering on one term in office for him.
“There was silence when the two leaders tried to sort themselves out on the 2015 thing.
“But the governor countered the President by saying he made the commitment at Ethiopia, United States, Expanded National Caucus Meeting and in the agreement he signed with PDP governors.
“He said there was nothing bad in asking the President to stand by his words to allow power shift to the North in 2015.
“The President said he did not at any time promise to spend one term in office.”
The source quoted the President as saying” “I did not give anybody any commitment that I won’t seek re-election.”
The source said: “Jonathan clarified that what he said in Ethiopia was that as a democratic leader, he would not elongate his tenure under any guise.
“The President also reportedly told the session that on the events referred to by Babangida, there then an ongoing debate on a single term of six years for Nigeria’s President. And he told his audience that he would not seek a second term or elongate his tenure under any guise.
“Jonathan said since the crisis in the party was basically on 2015, it is a matter that can be addressed later.
“His body language suggested that he won’t compromise his ambition to contest in 2015. But it was not a major issue yet at the peace talks.”
The source added: “At a stage, Governors Godswill Akpabio, Liyel Imoke and Idris Wada raised their voices against Aliyu, saying: ‘You cannot stampede the President to spend one term in office, you cannot do that.”
The Niger State Governor, however, inisted: “2015 is central to whatever compromise the parties would reach and demanded that it should be properly addressed.
“The issue might be addressed on October 7 when the groups reconvene. When the G-7 governors came out, they held a brief discussion and vowed to pursue one term for Jonathan.”
The session was, however, not without its drama. The communiqué was drafted by Governor Liyel Imoke, who was part of the Jonathan team.
The Jonathan team tried to sum up the session that the two warring groups had almost “resolved the issues”, Amaechi wanted the mood captured in a manner suggesting that “the two sides are still talking”.
But Imoke went ahead to draft the communiqué and he gave the hand written copy to Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State to read.
It was learnt that it was at the point of drafting the communiqué that Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso got to the meeting.
Although Amaechi sustained his point but, Kwankwaso could not settle down enough to grasp the issue at stake.
Only the state-owned Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) was allowed to record the reading of the communiqué.
Notwithstanding the outcome of the peace talks, the G-7 and the Baraje faction of PDP met behind closed doors yesterday.
A source in the faction said: “The G-7 governors and the National Chairman of the New PDP, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, may visit the leadership of the House of Representatives in Abuja today.
“They want to brief members on the development in PDP. We hope the House leadership will receive them.”
A principal officer of the House, who spoke with our correspondent last night, said: “We have been told that they want to visit us.”

Youngzedd: *Gov Aliyu heads nPDP committee on teachers, FG’s rift *Demands immediate unsealing of secretariats … ABUJA—WORRIED by the prolonged strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, the Abubakar Kawu Baraje-led new Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, has commenced a seven-day fasting and prayer starting from today. To make it very effective, the new PDP has requested all its members worldwide to embark on the exercise, adding that the spiritual intervention was as a result of the concern of the Baraje-led PDP for the plight of parents and university students due to the continued closure of public universities following the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. It added that the move was designed to protest what it described as the Federal Government’s failure to keep the agreement it signed with the union in 2009. Meanwhile, Alhaji Baraje has set up a four-man Committee with Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State as Chairman to advise the party on the best way to get the Federal Government’s negotiating committee and the leadership of ASUU to reach an agreement on the issues at stake and thus end this three-month-old strike. Other members of the committee are Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, Chinwo Ike, President of UNIPORT Alumni, and Mr. Timi Frank, the nPDP National Youth Leader. The group said: “We sincerely solicit the patience of Nigerians while appealing to the Federal Government and the leadership of ASUU to end this imbroglio so that our children may go back to school instead of engaging in acts inimical to their future. “The need for this has become urgent as reports reaching us indicate that many of these students have out of frustration and boredom turned to prostitution, armed robbery and other vices due to the prolonged strike. On its secretariat that was sealed by the police, Eze said: “To the glory of God, contrary to the prayers of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur’s faction of PDP, a Federal High Court in Abuja onSeptember 13, 2013, ruled that the Baraje faction of PDP should be allowed to operate without any further harassment or inhibition as it is not breaking any known law. Justice E.S. Chukwu in his ruling held that there was no evidence before the court to show any tardiness on the part of Baraje’s faction as claimed by the Tukur-led faction, which requested it to stop the Baraje-led PDP from operating .
Broken TV: Ngige should also tell us how he wasted the billions of naira allocated to him in abuja as senators constituency allowance for anambra central.
U r a fool, who ws @ dat position previously nd wat did he do?
bushwailo: Former governor of Anambra State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige, has alleged that there is nothing on ground to justify the over N2 trillion the Governor Peter Obi administration has received in the last seven and half years.
Ngige, who spoke in Awka, the Anambra State capital yesterday, said such huge amount of money received by the state within the period under review was simply frittered away as there is nothing tangible on the ground to show for it.
He added that for 34 months, he (Ngige) was in the saddle as governor of the state and did not receive up to N100 billion, including all receipts from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and counter-part funding.
According to Ngige, the Obi administration has denied ever collecting such an amount in revenue to the state, yet it has woefully failed to publish its account for the scrutiny of Anambra people since it came into being.
“The few things I put in here have vanished. In everything I did in Anambra State, I did not spend up to N100 billion including all my receivables from Federation Account and IGR. The Government of Anambra State as at today has collected up to N2trillion. They are saying it is a lie, I said publish your account, your IGR, receivables from counterpart funding from all agencies, world Bank, DFID, UNICEF, WHO. Publish all account receivables,” Ngige said.
He cited the example of 50 percent counterpart funding for building of classroom blocks for primary and junior secondary schools in the state in conjunction with Federal Government which he said over N17billion had been paid before he left office but allegedly, nothing to show about the project today. “Rather, the Governor Peter Obi Government has been beating its chest for providing computer sets to schools with leaking roofs,” he said.
Ngige also took a swipe at the health sector in the state, saying it had collapsed under Peter Obi’s administration, also stressing that the Onitsha General Hospital was the only one that took him 24months to secure its accreditation as governor, which he said Obi has lost the accreditation. He said, there is no other hospital that has been given accreditation as most of the consultants, doctors, nurses and other health professionals employed have left, apart from the 13 months strike embarked upon by doctors in public hospitals in the state.
“Since I left, the government of Obi has not employed nurses apart from the 350, I employed, ” he said, adding that the same thing goes for teachers who he said were never employed under Obi. Ngige said the scenario was not different from the tertiary institutions in Anambra State, especially the state University at Uli, which he said, he fought to get accreditation for 18 courses but today has lost accreditation of 20 courses.
“I got professors, I employed them and I was ready to pay and I paid. You don’t make a good soup without paying. Today as we speak, 20 of those courses have lost accreditation. The 23 percent that has been done by the Obi administration is not enough. They are trying but their best is not enough”.
Ngige said that all these things do not add up to the Anambra of his dream, and emphasised that he joined the race to change the fortunes of the people of the state and lift them out of what he called their present bondage.
Its indeed a sad moment here in Ondo state and we pray God grant the family of the late ex-governor the fortitude to bear the loss. As part of events to mark this great demise, i want to us to use this thread as a condolence register on Nairaland for the deceased.
The speaker of the House of Reps, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, has confirmed that it would indeed be a very daunting task for President Goodluck Jonatha under the PDP to win the 2015 election should the party fail to reconcile with the members of the New PDP.
He also caution the likes of Asari Dokubo who are found of threatening Nigerians to either vote for Jonathan or be visited with mayhem, to stop such nonsense as no one is intimidated by such childish talk.
On the chances of the APC and New PDP taking over power, Tambuwal said:
“It is up to the group that is led by Bamanga Tukur to appreciate the implication and the consequence of that action that was taken by the faction that broke away from the party at the mini-convention.
"Tukur must understand what the action of those seven governors will cost the PDP before the 2015 elections... I am afraid, if we allow that particular group, from what we can see, either to go and form another political party since they are working together or go and join the merger and possibly increase the strength of the newly formed All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP being led by Bamanga Tukur will have a very strong formidable force coming up against it in 2015.”
“The challenge for the Tukur-led PDP is to go and find every means to pacify and bring the seven governors and their people back into the main PDP fold because if you lose just one state, it can be very costly not to talk of seven states, and of those seven, there is Kano that is having a very strong voting population in Nigeria; there is Rivers, and there is also Niger State. They are not states like Nassarawa, Ebonyi or Bayelsa. These seven states are the ones that have significant voting strength and I believe that PDP needs to be more careful in handling this very delicate situation.”
On why Tukur is bent on having his way in the PDP despite obvious negative signals, Tambuwal added:
“First, he started with Adamawa, his home state, and it is clear that it was because he is having his own son in mind to succeed the present governor of the state. Same is happening in some of the states where some of his allies are having interests in who becomes the next governors.”
Tambuwal warned that it is either Tukur/Jonathan PDP embrace everybody or be ready for defeat in 2015.

Symphony007: Professor Ruqqayatu Ahmed Rufai who was relieved of her appointment as Education Minister along with eight other Ministers by President Goodluck Jonathan has indicated her intention to return to Bayero University, Kano where she was formerly a lecturer. While handing over to the Minister of State for Education, Barrister Nyesom Wike who is presently the acting Minister of Education, the former Minister expressed gratitude to President Jonathan for allowing her to serve in his cabinet also promised to always support the President.Professor Rufai who spent three years in the office introduced Four Year Strategic Plan for the development of education sector. She also masterminded the introduction of Integrated Quranic Education for the Almajiri as well as construction of model Integrated Quranic schools for the Almajiri. The federal government also established 12 federal universities in 12 states that were hitherto without federal universities. Her words: ” I want to use this medium to thank Allah for giving me the opportunity to serve in the Federal Ministry of Education for a period of well over three years, let me also thank Mr. President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who I must say I enjoyed working with, he has a listening eye, he loves education, he has been supportive. “There was no time I can say that I was with the president that I regretted working with him, I will forever pray for him and his chamber and all the team for the growth and development of this nation. But most importantly, let me also thank the minister of state for education for the time we spent together that has been in my character to always carry everybody along because I know one day this day is coming and if it doesn’t come we may die. “So we are favoured that we are even seeing today and I have to thank my Honourable Minister for the working relationship these two years that we have been together, of course there may be time the pressure of the office may be really much, there are times that we may not be happy with each other but over all we enjoyed working with each other. “I am going to take over my office in Bayero University Kano, its very important for you to know that I have been a commissioner for three years before coming here, I am just on secondment from my university and I have been here through God’s grace and it is my Governor, Sule Lamido who nominated me to be here, so I thank him for that opportunity, but now that I have this scenario am going back to report in office as a professor of curriculum Studies in Bayero University. “Let me hand over but I know that taking over will make you to do more, here in the ministry, we need to update our data to 2012 or at least 2011 so this is the process in the Ministry, it is a two year plan, so this will be your time to continue to do it.We are also in the process of finishing the mid term report for this year in terms of having about three year mandate, so by the time that one is done by the end of next year, you can see the end of your plan and this is a very good initiative that we all started together with you.” Wike after much emotion said: “Since I met you, we have been working very closely, when you work with somebody that you are very close to and the person is no longer their, you must feel bad“We want to thank you for the leadership and support that you have shown to this ministry and the motherly support that you have shown to everyone and I can assure you that some of us will keep the relationship because we do not know, where we will meet. “This came to me as a shock, although I knew that we cannot be here forever but I always assumed that one of us will simply go to another ministry but not to end up the way it did but God known’s best. “So I urge you directors and everyone to continue to work like you did when she was here to move the education family ahead because if we do not, it will also affect that where she is going to.”
