Bettypro: Hi, I suggest you go ahead and get married. You do not need to inform IRCC and it will not raise any concern. My wife travelled to canada and did not mention me in her application. she finished her 1 year first program, returned and we got married. She went back for her second program and I applied for SOWP 2 weeks after the wedding and got approved. Just have enough evidence that the relationship and marriage is genuine. Your spouse will also need to show adequate funds (despite your financial evidence of being able to support both of you in Canada) and strong home ties. |

pjombo: I think 3.5m should be enough if you manage well and depending also on your course. For economics management, tuition and deposit is about rm18,000. Living expense is about rm1000 per month. A total of rm30,000 is about n2.7m at n90/rm. You can add n800k for flight and unforseen expense. I believe finally it is down to your chosen lifestyle. |

@Orofun1 Hi, I also got Msc admission for one year at USM to start in 2018, after which I will immediately start a PhD program. The issue I am faced with now is that I intend to defer the admission to 2022 because I also plan to work for about 4 years to save enough money for both programs. Please were you given a maximum amount of years that your admission can be deferred? I am in the process of cancelling my VAL and request that my admission be deferred hopefully for 4 years. I just don't want to go through the whole process of reapplying for admission. |

My VAL was approved in October last year, I did not know it has a validity of 6 months. Since my start date is September 2018, it means I have to apply for another by next month. I have contacted USM to return the current VAL for cancellation so that I can reapply. Quite unfortunate I have to pay the VAL application fee twice. @barleeh Congrats on the distinction u made. Have you considered being an academic. May be you should apply for PhD admission to universities in Canada. You have a good chance of being selected with funding. Although pursuing a doctorate degree can be mentally exhausting and you have to be ready for the duration, I think it is worth the shot. |

@zaimeg Pls how did you get your offer letter from USM and how long did it take? About 2 weeks ago I got a mail from the school stating that I should check the status of my admission application and if it is successful I should print the offer letter. I logged into my account and saw that my application is successful but still can't find the offer letter anywhere. I have sent the school staff several mails but no response. Just want to know if this experience is the norm. Thanks. |

I just got admission to study a Master's degree course and start date is September 2018. Pls I need to confirm if the tuition fee for economics management is actually $3300 as I was informed. What is the cost of living in Penang (like renting a 2 bedroom apartment)? How much does it cost to process the VAL? Finally, how friendly is the environment? Thanks. |

I just logged into my cic account and saw that my application was refused based on the ineligibility criteria. I am still expecting my package so that I will know what the reason is for the rejection. I paid my full tuition and had 8000usd in my dorm account for over a year for living expenses. I even included my my naira account with over 5m. Employment letter, introduction letter, payslips were all included. I suspect that the reason might be because I already earned a Master's in the UK and applying for the same level of study. But I did not do well enough to secure a PhD admission and so I decided to repeat the masters. Well, I will explore other study destinations, repeat the masters, then my next application will be with a PhD admission. I wish everyone the best. Let us keep moving forward. 7 Likes |

EJIZY: Departments will say you can't pay because they are not sure. My department told me the same. Contact Shannon Breen (Shannon.breen@unb.ca or call +1 5064534624), the financial services receptionist, and explain to her. She will give u the account details and sort code for a transfer. That was how I paid mine. It will help if you can pay the tuition with that N4m cos it might be a problem to your application. |

SURGEE: It is safest for the money to be in your account until you get the permit. Those guys are unpredictable. The VO might request for your statement after 3 months of holding on to your package. What do you do then if you have already returned the money? 1 Like |

Hello, I tried to apply online to UKM for a Master's programbut was told I have to submit institutional email addresses for my 2 academic referees. I have tried without success to explain to the school that most universities in Nigeria don't have functioning institutional emails. Please how can I approach this issue? For those that got admission, how did you tackle the issue? Thanks. |

The police report can't be gotten on the same day if done in Abuja because they will still need to send it to Lagos for the authorised signature. VFS Global staff even told me that the police report is not necessary. I did not include it in my application. |

hurricanesgrace: Canada use a 4-point scale while we use 5 in Nigeria. It means a 3.75 cgpa in Nigeria is equal to a 3 cgpa in Canada. Universities in Canada are actually more competitive than other study destinations such as US, UK and Australia. It is easier to get admission with a 2:2 in these countries than Canada. Not that it is impossible but the success rate is low. But then it also depends on other factors like strength of other supporting documents, university ranking and intended course other study. 1 Like |

Fredozki: Cool. I believe you will get the admission. The secret with UNB is applying early because admission is considered on a rolling basis. It means you have a better chance when application is sent in early. Good luck bro. 1 Like |
