I use glo bis on my BB OS 10 device; 1k for 3gb a month. The last subscription I did which expired 2 days ago was left with about 1.5 gb of data, simply because the network had become so bad that I couldn't even finish up my data. Very annoying and an eyesore that leaves me wondering what tha hell Mike Adenuga and his team are doing... I have ditched my glo sim and subscribed for etisalat's 1 gb for 1k. It's more expensive with less data but at least now I have peace! |

cityAdventures: 2004...jobowu bus stop. Exactly 11yrs ago to this day. I was in university then and running a publication, which we printed nd published from lagos. I escorted a colleqgue to despatch some mgazines to port hrcourt. It was evening around 6.30 with hint of rain in the air.
Immediately he got ife sinachi, my friend nd i who, was with me, headed to the bus stop- jibowu under bridge. We were heqding for palmgroove, where our printers were on shyllon street. It was drizzling slightly and there were no buses, yet a crush of humanity milling around.
Any bus at that time would do, since all the buses from tht point must pass palgroove, which was about 4 bus stops away. I had some posters with me which i had rolled into a cylinder. Since it ws drizzling, i put my phone omside this cylinder of posters to shield it from rain..one of those fancy samsung's then.
A bus soon came around nd without even waiting to hear where it was going to, we jumped inside- my friend and i-the bus must pass through palmgrove nyway. 4 other men and a woman were lucky enough to also get seats making us 6 who entered the bus at the back, to join 4others,including the conductor, each on a seat in the bus. The woman entered infront. It was one of these 14seater combi buses- 3 rows of seats at the back, taking 4people each row nd two people in front.
The bus was going to ketu-ojota anyways.
One person was next to the driver infront, so he came down for the woman to sandwich herself between him and the driver. I nd my friend, sat in the middle seat, one person(one of them, as we later got to discover) flanking us door side. Thats how they distributed themselves at the end of each row-door side of the bus.
Owo da....the conductor soon shouted as the bus took off(even when they wnt to rob you, they must still collect their bus fare first), so we paid. By then, we were coasting along fadeyi, towards onipan, inside kole(service lane). Just before onipan though, around igbobi, the driver exitted service lane and entered express onto Ikorodu road proper as the conductor finished collecting his fare.
Just then, i just heard from the back: 'This is a security operation, we are security men. Bring out everything in your pockets. This is a stop nd search operation (stop and search nd we were moving). 'Security operation baawo,' i said as i made to turn. A fist, it had to be a fist, though it sounded nd felt like a sledge hammer thuded against the side of my head nd instantly shut down my vocal cords, forcing my head to remain glued to the front.
It was then it dawned on me- we had entered one chance- nd damn, i had 30k on me- my entire money, home nd abrod. 'Which kain bad luck be this, i kept on muttering to myself as they systematically started collecting our money at gun point. The guy at the back seat nd the conductor held locally made pistols.
I knew they couldnt shoot, without giving themselves away, even on that busy express, but i wasnt about to test their resolve. Tht sledgehammer blow had done much to sap the fight in me. I handed over my 30k sheepishly as i saw the guy infront jerk the handbag of the woman nd bring out money i knew would be nothing less than 200k.
They collected our fones, nd when it got to my turn, i remembered my fone was in the cylinderical hull of the posters i held. Atleast they wont steal my fone, i resolved. When the conductor turned his gun on me asking for my fone, i told him i had none. They frisked me quickly, they seemed satisfied.
They now started asking each of us how much we had on us when we entered the bus. I thought quickly and said i had handed over 50k, when it was only 30k. I did this to set them up in arms against each other. There is no honor among thieves, so normally when they rob passengers, each of them underdeclares what they collect from each victim. If one of them collects 30k, when they r tendering the money, he will only drop 10k, so each of the gang members, if they have time always ask victims how much they had.
All this happened between jibowu and anthony and robbing us, and just when they were about to slow down and push us out of the bus(they most times dont even slow down), i felt the posters i held start vibrating. It was my phone, and i knew in the next few seconds, my ring tone will explode into sound.
I could have gladly died at that moment. I tried to end the call through the posters, but the thickness was too much. My ringtone exploded in the shrill quietness of the bus. The gang realized one passenger still had a phone. All hell broke loose.
They had pushed the first guys out and were about pushing me out when the sound came.A coarse hand gripped my neck my flung me back as the door of the bus was pulled to. Slaps, metal, wood, gun butts landed on me as they cursed and hit me. They grabbed the posters, pulled out the phone, frisked me again, giving me a tjorough work over before they pushed me towards the door.
They were in two minds whether to keep me for further search, but it was too dangerous still having us on board, they had already thrown some passengers off around LASU Anthony and by now, we were at Maryland underground. In the darkness of the underground, the slowed to push the remainder of us off the bus and zoomed.
People who saw us shoved off, came to our aid, bought us pure water, dabbed our wounds and contributed 100naira for each of us to get to our destinations. I walked all the way to obanikoro on the other side of the road and fearfully took the next bus back to shyllon...thanking my stars that they were just one chance robbers...not ritualists
Lagos na wa!!!! Sorry man. You should have pressed on the poster harder or sat on it or even smacked it on the floor to silence the phone |

So even Ghanians make this same mistake as Nigerians. Instead of saying 'I am the most likely surgeon that you will be referred to', he said 'am the most likely surgeon that you will be referred to'. |
