Assumptions without proof.

So you know more than the organisers of the dinner.

If they have such device, it makes no sense asking invitees not to come with phone.
I've witnessed this first hand. Back in February 2015 at the State house, the moment Goodluck Jonathan arrived the venue, phone signal disappeared from our phones. It was as if our phones had gone on Airplane mode. It remained like that until about 30 minutes after the president had left.
TravelMagnitude 6.0 Earthquake Strikes Near Melbourne Australia by Krest3d(op):
Krest3d:
SYDNEY/MELBOURNE, Sept 22 (Reuters) - An earthquake with a 6.0 magnitude struck near Melbourne in Australia on Wednesday, Geoscience Australia said, causing damage to buildings in the country's second largest city and sending tremors throughout neighbouring states.

The quake's epicentre was near the rural town of Mansfield in the state of Victoria, about 200 km (124 miles) northeast of Melbourne, and was at a depth of 10 km (six miles).

Radio station 3AW posted a picture of rubble on one of Melbourne's main streets which it attributed to the quake, and people in northern parts of the city said on social media they had lost power, while others said they were evacuated from buildings.

The quake was felt as far away as city of Adelaide, 800 km (500 miles) to the west in the state of South Australia, and Sydney, 900 km (600 miles) to the north in New South Wales state, although there were no reports of damage outside Melbourne and no reports of injuries.

More than half Australia's 25 million population lives in the southeast of the country from Adelaide to Melbourne to Sydney.

The mayor of Mansfield, Mark Holcombe, said he was in his home office on his farm when the quake struck and ran outside for safety.

"I have been in earthquakes overseas before and it seemed to go on longer than I have experienced before," Holcombe told the ABC. "The other thing that surprised me was how noisy it was. It was a real rumbling like a big truck going past."

He said he knew of no serious damage near the quake epicentre, although some residents reported problems with telecommunications.

No tsunami threat has been issued to the Australian mainland, islands or territories, the country's Bureau of Meteorology said in a statement.

The quake presented a potential disruption for anti-lockdown protests expected in Melbourne on Wednesday, which would be the third day of unrest that has reached increasing levels of violence and police response

Before you join MMM, make sure you search on google the name Sergei Mavrodi and read extensively about him and his activities.
You will then see why they dont allow people from Russia and some other countries to join MMM.
A few things about him from Wiki:
Sergey Panteleevich Mavrodi (Russian: Серге́й Пантелеевич Мавроди; born August 11, 1955) is a Russian criminal and a former deputy of the State Duma. He is the founder of the МММ series of pyramid schemes. In 2007 Sergei Mavrodi was found guilty in a Russian court of defrauding 10,000 investors out of 110 million rubles ($4.3 million).
In 1989 he founded MMM.
He was then elected to the State Duma,[6] thereby obtaining parliamentary immunity. Mavrodi declared MMM bankrupt on December 22, 1997, then disappeared, and was on the run until his arrest in 2003
.
In 1998 Mavrodi created Stock Generation,[8][9] allegedly a classic pyramid scheme presented as a "virtual stock market game".[1] The website ran from 1998 to early 2000. The Massachusetts district court initially found that U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission was unable to cite Stock Generation's founders and owners for securities violations. However, the United States Court of Appeals reversed this decision in 2001, concluding that the SEC alleged sufficient facts to state a triable claim.[10] In 2003 the SEC obtained permanent injunctions against SG Ltd. and relief defendants SG Perfect and SG Trading, which profited from the disbursement of funds fraudulently gained by SG Ltd
On April 28, 2007, a Moscow court sentenced him to four and a half years in a penal colony. The court also fined him 10,000 rubles ($390).
In January 2011, Mavrodi launched another pyramid scheme called MMM-2011, asking investors to buy so-called Mavro currency units. He frankly described it as a pyramid, adding "It is a naked scheme, nothing more ... People interact with each other and give each other money. For no reason!"[13] Mavrodi said that his goal with MMM-2011 is to destroy the current financial system, which he considers unfair, which would allow something new to take its place. MMM-2011 was able to function openly as Ponzi schemes and financial pyramids are not illegal under Russian law.[14] In May 2012 he froze the operation and announced that there would be no more payouts.[15]
In 2011 he launched a similar scheme in India, called MMM India, again stating clearly that the vehicle is a pyramid.[16] He has also launched MMM in China.[17] He was reported to be trying to expand his operations into Western Europe, Canada, and Latin America.[14] As of September 2015 it had spread rapidly in South Africa with a claimed 1% per day or 30% per month interest rate scheme[18] and warnings from both the South African and Russian Communist Parties for people not to participate in it.[19] He is now in Nigeria after crashing the pyramid scheme in Zimbabwe.

Get your fact right too...I posted the link I got that from didn't I?

.... file:///data/data/com.android.browser/files/index-14.mht

If switching the power off is not viable, from a worksafe perspective I'd flick it off as a sparkies job.

This is because:
1) The standard bayonet/ES socket always seems to be electrically unsafe to me - very easy to bridge the terminals with your fingers or stick your finger on a live part while earthed.
2) Because there is a lack of electrical knowledge in the Australian population, Mr or Ms 'Change the lightbulb' person knows nothing about where the safe/unsafe bits in the fitting are, or indeed how the thing works at all...I can just see some helpful soul trying to dislodge an insect carcase with a metal pen while standing on tip-toes on a swivel chair.
3) Bulbs occasonally break when changing, so you've got the added risk of electrical shock as well as cuts from broken glass...and possibly blowing the entire circuit if the bulb seperates from its metal base and the lead wires twist together.
4) Even sparkies manage to kill themselves when working on things that should be isolated (but its too much trouble to switch off, so they don't...and ZAP!)

The U.S. is not the only country that has imposed a ban on some weird stuff. From wearing noisy shoes and leaving elephants on the beach to die.

Check out some strange things banned around the world: *grab your popcorn* wink

1) In Victoria, the second most populous state of Australia, you are not allowed to change a light bulb unless you are a licensed electrician. Those who don't comply can face a fine of up to 10 Australian dollars.

2) Lanjarón, Spain, there was a certain time period during which it was illegal to die. The town´s 4,000 inhabitants were to stay alive until the government was able to buy land and build a new cemetery. The unusual law was mostly received with humor among both the politicians as well as the citizens. grin

3) In the Russian city of Chelyabinsk, driving a dirty car is against the law. If you drive a car that is not clean enough, you can get fined up to 2000 rubles (currently around 30 American dollars).

This is wrong. It is not illegal to change light bulbs in Victoria. It's only illegal to do your own electrical work.

Few points to note when selecting a course to study in Australia, if you are keen of PR at end of your study:
-Ensure you select a course that is relevant to the occupation on the list.
-Check if the course you intend to study is accredited by the relevant authority.
-If you do not have work experience, make sure you do a course which occupation may not require work for an assessment. Most occupations that Vetassess assesses require at least 1 year work experience.
-Do not believe of what somebody has told you until you check these things by yourself. Many end-up changing courses after discovering that their courses are irrelevant in Australia.
-If you have experience and your occupation is on the list, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on study but rather pursue your PR.
Need to keep quoting this because agents in Nigeria keep misleading people.

hello House,
My uncle wants to wire fund to me from the states to Aussie..he's of the opinion that it's quite cheaper and money saving looking at the current forex exchange issue..pls how will he go abt it?..shld I open a bank account with an aussie bank from nigeria nd give him d account details or what?
I opened an account with ANZ Bank and got my account details in two days. From what i gathered on their site, you can deposit into the new account, which means it's possible for your uncle to wire funds directly to the new account. You'd just need to present your passport and flight ticket to them when you arrive Australia in order to be able to withdraw.

best u can do is to send money gram to urself. u need to go early though cos each bank has a quota that all the branches in Nigeria struggle for. for now I know that skyebank, diamond bank n I think UBA do this. max amount to send varies but usually about 200k. just go to these banks n verify. done at the cbn rate of the day.
Is MoneyGram like WU where you can send money to your self to any bank even without banking with them? Also i heard the highest you can send via MG is USD1000 every 3 months

@ Dara01 , saw your post late, already paid with teller. Thanks anyways.

@ johnsontade, I was charged USD 1,080.50. But they converted it at their own rate and gave me a bill of N 215k, payable to their Nigerian account.

@chetaRay, it's a one way ticket. The problem with IOM Nigeria is that they hardly pick their calls. I had to wait for over an hour or so to get confirmation from them if that was the right account. Sorry if I may ask, how long did it take for them to verify your payment and send your ticket?
TravelRe: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by Krest3d: 8:50am On Feb 02, 2016
Please chetaRay and others who paid to IOM through their Nigerian bank account I need your help.

They gave me their Nigerian bank account to pay in, but at the bank I was told that the account can not receive the lump sum of money I want to pay for the flight ticket, that they were only instructed to receive payments for medicals only. Could you guys confirm if this is the account number you paid into? See below:

Thank you. Found them and I've seen they even have an office here in Abj. I'll send them a mail and go to their office on monday if I don't get a reply before then.

Are you also going to use IOM, and when do you intend to leave?
TravelRe: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by Krest3d: 2:10pm On Jan 29, 2016
Please those of you who used IOM to travel, how did you go about it?

IOM sent me payment details which I took to First Bank, but I was told payment can't be possible since it does not fall under the essential goods and services list of CBN. Rather I was told to open a DOM account and put dollars in it.

I did frontload medicals. I submitted financial proof and I was also called on phone for interview. My case officer wanted to know why I did not submit the results or transcripts for a course I was studying at that time meanwhile I had stated clearly on the visa application that the course was ongoing hence no transcript for now.

erictack203:
Congratsss, you can share your experience to encourage others that are still waiting.
Thank you for your immense contributions here. Applied October 7, 2015 to resume 16th Nov, 2015 or so. Resumption date kept drawing nearer and still no word from them so I decided to mail Pretoria. C/O called few days to my resumption date for phone interview where she pointed out the issue of non submission of results/transcripts for a course I was studying at that time (I had stated clearly that this was an ongoing course). She told me to get results for the exams written in previous semesters, which I did and mailed same to her. She replied and notified me that they would be busy verifying the documents.

And that was it. Almost 2 months after (which was yesterday) was when she mailed me to send her my updated CoE, then the grant came today.

Sorry for the late reply. I was asking to know if there has ever been a case where one got his visa refused after his case officer must have requested for his updated COE. I applied since October last year for 573(svp) and the very long delay made me start imaginning things. Thanks for your contributions here, I got the grant today.
