WebmastersRe: Feedback On New Website (www.djdouglasmusic.com) by kris(op): 9:31pm On Dec 23, 2008
But looking at your snap shot I see a lot will have to be removed from the sides to remove the horizontal scrollbar. I see what I can do, if it messes too much with my design, then the scroll might be there for good.
WebmastersRe: Feedback On New Website (www.djdouglasmusic.com) by kris(op): 9:24pm On Dec 23, 2008
Thanks for the snap shot. Like I said I hate all scrolls, so yeah the horizontal one will be gone for sure pretty soon.
WebmastersRe: Feedback On New Website (www.djdouglasmusic.com) by kris(op): 8:55pm On Dec 23, 2008
Yawa - Can you see the right side content without using the horizontal scroll?

Yeah I see I can shave off a bit from the right hand side to remove the horizontal scroll, I'll do that sometime soon.

IBEXY - the idea is that the music starts to play before people click to play the video so they know there's a player.

I might also work on moving everything slightly higher so the player can show up on most settings. How long does the
audio take to start on your end?

Thanks for the feedback. I'll let you guys know when I make the changes.
WebmastersRe: Feedback On New Website (www.djdouglasmusic.com) by kris(op): 3:46am On Dec 23, 2008
Thanks for the feedback. I'm improving the site small small based on your feedback.

The Horizontal scroll should be gone by now. I never saw it since I develop on a 24 inch iMac, so you do forget sometimes that not all computers have that screen size.
My laptop was dead for while, but now it's back up and I was able to see what you were saying. I hate horizontal scrolls myself.

Sliced up images load faster, and the current sizes are no problem to the target audience so I will not touch those no more, same with the audio.
I'm sorry say una broadband for naija no broad reach o! lol

Yawa I'll make the audio more prominent in the next version of the site, but not on this one. The contact form validation is just a place holder for now, I'll improve on it soon.

Bug24, No be me make am cute o! Na him mama o!

Once again thanks to you all for checking the site and your comments.
WebmastersRe: Feedback On New Website (www.djdouglasmusic.com) by kris(op): 6:46am On Dec 16, 2008
yawa-ti-de thanks a lot for your feedback.

About things you don't like:

1) The music are long mixes, so the sizes have to be that big, plus they are made available for download, by the way the Dj does the music upload through the CMS I built in.
Dj Douglas is in the UK and those are his target audience so those files load pretty fast for them. I get no delay at all on my computer.

2) The dj wants the music to auto start. Yes most people probably have their own music playing before getting to the site, but they have the option to stop it from playing.

3) Horizontal scroll? I don't get what you are talking about, please explain.

4) I will work more on the contact form to validate, could you please point me to the problem you spotted?

5) Photos too large - I reduced the quality setting to 90% and most of the photos are now like 25KB

6) Any suggestions?

7) Yes the idea was to have all pages like the photo page but I got lazy plus have lots of work to get done. But I'll be improving the site with time.

Once again thanks for your feedback.

Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Welcome To My World Of Graphics by kris(m): 7:07am On Jan 14, 2008
I like the first design, you just need to use a softer green color, and make the plane a bit rounded on the edges.

Keep it up.
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3D Nigerian Game by kris(m): 2:01am On Dec 31, 2007
A better game will be one that relates more to the life in Nigeria. Here are some ideas.

1. Super conductor - works as a bus conductor and has to solve all the troubles involved, like collecting money from hard headed passengers, making sure the money in complete. You get extra cash by increasing the bus fare at the right time. You also need to hide from your girlfriend so she will not know you are a conductor, if you are caught you lose certain amount of points.

2. Yahoo Yahoo boys - Your job is to track and catch 419 people.

3. Lagos Life - Your main goal is to go from rags to riches. You will have to deal with land lord, rushing for buses to get to work, you can chose not to pay the conductor, in which case you have to fight him, if you win you get to save some cash, but if you don't you pay them and pay for your hospital bill. You also need to avoid getting on those fake buses that take you straight to the police station, where they charge you to bail yourself. In the game, armed robbers will visit your house once you have certain amount of money, so make sure to buy a gun by then or visit the local baba alawo's shrine.

I hope you guys get the idea. But if you must do your high tech, sci-fi game, then please turn things around to make it fun. What I mean by turning things around is to have Bush and other presidents of first world countries be begging Nigeria to save them from the Aliens. Kind of like how America is always saving the world in movies like Men In Black, iRobot, and many other ones I can't think of now.

Let me know what you guys think about those 3 type of games I listed above.

Bros Ramonica, register me with your money, when that big money land you go take your cut. I will even go 50/50 with you, all you have to do is pay the registration fee for me and any other expenses. I know it's a deal you cannot resist, so what are you waiting for?
AdvertsRe: Neticash - New Online Payment Service - Is Live! by kris(m): 9:55am On Sep 19, 2007
Well I think their project never took off. I'll be using premium sms now for the online billing.
AdvertsRe: Neticash - New Online Payment Service - Is Live! by kris(m): 1:06am On Sep 19, 2007
This Neticash sounds like exactly what I need for my sites, but why is there website so ugly and dysfunctional?

I don't know about you guys, but if your website looks amateur, I tend to think your service and everything will be the same way.

TV/MoviesRe: Final Cut Pro 5. by kris(m): 4:06pm On Apr 10, 2007
Yes there is limited support, but i still used a mac in Nigeria, but then i could not just go to computer village and buy what i want. I need to really search hard to find anything for mac.
TV/MoviesRe: Final Cut Pro 5. by kris(m): 7:48am On Mar 14, 2007
I feel that getting an expensive Macbook for the sake of Final Cut Pro is a waste of money. Use Windows & Vegas .
Expensive? You get what you pay for. Which other laptop out there compares to laptops from Apple? Macbooks will run Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. With built in iSight, Sudden motion sensor, illuminated keyboards, Apple remote, Front Row, Photo booth, wi-fi 802.11n, MagSafe Power Adapter, 6x slot-loading SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW).

Even my 3 year old powerbook is better than most windows laptops, with all that their ugly stickers.

Mac OS X Tiger is still years ahead of Vista, and wait till Leopard comes out.

I use both Windows and Mac, and i know what's better.

It's fine if people want to buy cheaper products, but don't think you will get the same thing you get in a Macbook.
TV/MoviesRe: Final Cut Pro 5. by kris(m): 3:14am On Mar 12, 2007
Your best bet is to buy a Macbook Pro, and you can get Final cut for free online. Just search for the torrent and use a torrent client to get it.

Final cut is not on it's own all that better than Adobe Premiere, but when you use it with stuffs like Live Type, then yes it has more power.

Google up schools teaching Final cut in Nigeria. But then if you are serious you will get the equipments and just teach yourself. There are lots of free tutorials online.

Good luck in your search though.
WebmastersRe: Most Nigerian Web Portals Dont Work! by kris(m): 2:50am On Mar 12, 2007
This is one funny thread o!
WebmastersRe: Website Review ! by kris(m): 2:44am On Mar 12, 2007
You are on a good track with your site. My advice would be to give it a softer look.

The layout is good and easy on the eyes. Yes the photo on top is not good. Too much red, and it's out of focus. The fonts on the photo should also be softer. Use fonts that go better on photos and the mood you are after.

For the bottom part, try to get a better drop shadow. I think making the photos 4 pixels away from the border will look better. And last advice is that you slice up those images and learn to reconstruct them using html tables.

Good luck.

Nice one Kadeejah. Convert your stuffs to digital using illustrator and make it into a wallpaper, put your name and email on it and you can share it at www.naijatopten.com

Keep it up guys!
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Make Yourself Known By Sharing by kris(op): 6:59am On Jun 01, 2006
MissEniola, thanks for your questions. Yes you get credit for it. It's up to you to put what you want on the wallpaper or screensaver.

So the idea is that you make a beautiful wallpaper that people want to have, and when they are using it others see it and see your contact details or your web address. Well the top ten means that we are there to improve by trying to be the best. There might be voting in the future, but to start with you will be able to leave comments.

And if the ads on the site generates good cash, we will be giving away prices related to designs, like books on photoshop, illustrator and 3d applications. Some of the books we have in mind could be found on www.friendsofed.com
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Make Yourself Known By Sharing by kris(op): 10:18pm On May 31, 2006
Yes, so take your time to make something nice to submit now, and people get to see it by June 20th 2006.
Art, Graphics & VideoMake Yourself Known By Sharing by kris(op): 9:43pm On May 31, 2006
Well guys www.naijatopten.com is up and it's time you take your time and make something to share with your fellow human being and at the same time spread the word about your skills.

Make wallpapers to share on www.naijatopten.com. Take your time and come up with something nice. I most admit, i've seen lots of trash on this Graphics section, but i think that we can get better as we share our knowledge with each other.

Peace and keep those nice designs coming!
WebmastersRe: Top Ten Nigerian Web Designers <caution> by kris(op): 9:12pm On May 31, 2006
Well thanks sha, but to be sincere if you know how to do basic things in photoshop, you could make a simple wallpaper that's nice. But please tell your friends who are Nigerian graphic designers.
WebmastersRe: Top Ten Nigerian Web Designers <caution> by kris(op): 8:49pm On May 31, 2006
Ok bros, i'm sorry for the confusion, but the idea is to let people know and give them time to get wallpapers ready to upload.
Make you self work on one o! I guess i should also post this on the graphic design part of the forum. No worry, me i know say you smart.
WebmastersRe: Top Ten Nigerian Web Designers <caution> by kris(op): 6:25pm On May 31, 2006
@my2cents: Well first let me give you props for your tip, it's a nice one and i think it will be a hit if it's done well. That will be something for the near future.
Well, with the good advice you gave, i take you to be one of the smart Nigerians, but i wonder how you did not see where it says the site is only opens June 20th.

I hope you are getting one or two wallpapers ready for the opening.
WebmastersRe: Advertising My Website by kris(m): 10:54am On May 31, 2006

WebmastersRe: Top Ten Nigerian Web Designers <caution> by kris(op): 10:50am On May 31, 2006
@tpreacha: you are on the right track with your work.

Ok guys the www.naijatopten.com site is up!

Well, it's going to be a place for Nigerians to showcase their design talent by creating stuffs like wallpapers, screensavers and other little stuffs. That way you spread the word about yourself.

Check it out at www.naijatopten.com

Peace!
WebmastersRe: Let's Review Various Nigerian Websites by kris(m): 8:20am On Apr 08, 2006
Bros abeg that case is closed jare. Some one using template for his own site, no go come use template for all him other sites? Take a look at his whole portfolio, it's all template stuffs, and the only things he adds are always badly done. Look at how he cuts people from photo any how, making it look like the people are disabled!

Abeg bros make we no talk about this no more. Lets agree that you made a mistake.

But i wish dem good luck with the 9jamusic site, it's a good idea.
WebmastersRe: Let's Review Various Nigerian Websites by kris(m): 7:36pm On Apr 07, 2006
4real:
well you can't be more wrong, the only picture with a problem is the ade bakare picture and i guess it was taken from his site and had to be stretched so that it can fit into the page, what do you want to say about the ladies pictures that fit into the background, abeg to me it's still a nice job and i don't think it's a template, did you check the model page, i downloaded the site and it's no template to me. the company that did it did a good job
Why you say kris dey wrong? Abi dem never tell you who i be?
Ok make i show our people wetin i found out.
Take a look at the company that made that site, their web address is www.xceptions.biz you can find thier name at the bottom of the 9jafinest site.
Take a look at their site and then take a look at http://www.great-web-hotel.com/ and then at http://www.ercgrants.com/
Dem look the same or not? Well i think that ends the whole thing. Hey bros me i no get problem if you use template, but just don't say it's not template.
And with the image i've attached we can tell that 4real owns it or is their best pal. How do i know that? Well look at his name on the left hand side where it says "Mozart and 4real hit the studio". Hey 4real, abi na 4fake be your name, anybody that has a clue about graphic design can tell that design of the main page is 100 times better than the bad photo tweeking done on those sites. The template has clean, smooth graphics, while una own dey all pixelated and out of proportion.
