What you need is the effort to get a second (and maybe a third) opinion. -- and that said with all due respect. That will save you money, give you peace of mind (that the problem is known and steps to resolve is taken) and you will learn from it. In addition to it, you can depend on the vehicle. Another engine is another "bag of beans" that is uncertain. There is nothing on that vehicle that cannot be fixed. It's a very basic engine.

thanks for your excellent reponse. is time Nigerians drop the habit of buying dead engine rather than fixing broken engine or broken parts. this present crop of mechanics are too, just too poor in fixing faults. all they will recommend is belgium parts. enough of this madness.

the truth is that A4 and A6 are expensive to maintain. they have many electronics sensors the have livespans. this does not prevent you from enjoying your ride. understands that the numbers of qualified mechanics are dropping by the day in nigeria are more advanced technology come into the automobile industry.
two key advices are
1 read very well about your car especially before going to the mechanic. use the Web. There are lot and lot of on line help and the ebay to buy parts.
2. do not patronise just every mechanic!

i think there are million and one areas of the nigeria economy that require government review.
1. the money spent in the national house of assembly
2. the massive embezzlement in the government circle
3. the sick but never die NNPC and her refinery
these areas need urgent positve attention rather than outright removal of subsidy on petroleum products.
i have always known nigerian to be dosile when it come to fighting for their right, but for this one i cannot vouch for it. Prsident Goodluck(?) beware and bewise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. there is a fire spreading across the world, memera!!!!!!. eyes dey red O!

its a pity some of our car importers because of their selfish interest buy any type of vehicle without looking at the mileage. the more the mileage the more the likelyhood that the buyer is buying coffin. Guys, take advantage of the VIN offer and obtain the age /history of the vehicle you are buying. " it may be very neat and cold cold AC" but lifeless. if it is worth having, then pay the cash. it is better to be naifa wise and kobo foolish.
I will use this opportunity to propose a motion that all Nairaland advertised vehicle must have thier VIN declared by the seller.

Let us not give information that are not true. that a brand of car could not perform well with you is not enough reason to tag that brand as bad. when buying a car, what do you have or hope to acheive. is it high torque/power or fuel economy. most kia car are in the fuel economy range and not for towing caravans. my friend has been using rio (bought new) for 5yrs now and it is still very clean.
