SportsCristiano Ronaldo’s Mother Reveals People Who Robbed Her Son Of Ballon D’or Awar by kunleham(op): 9:06am On Jan 25, 2020
dailypost.ng
Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, has blamed a “football mafia” for her son’s failure to win the Ballon D’Or.
Ronaldo is currently level on five Ballon D’Or prizes with long-term rival, Lionel Messi.
However, the Portugal captain was denied a sixth trophy last year, when he finished second to ex-Real Madrid team-mate Luka Modric.
“There is a mafia. That’s the right word to define it. Yes, there is a mafia in football,” Dolores told the Portuguese press.
“If there wasn’t a football mafia, my son would have more [individual] international trophies. If you see everything that happened, you will realise that it is the mafia.
“If he was Spanish or English they would not do what they did to him. But since he’s Portuguese and from Madeira… well, this happens.”
Ronaldo is one of the favourites to win this year’s award, though Messi and Liverpool stars Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane are also seen as top contenders

Foreign AffairsUs-iran Conflict: More Than 30 Iran Strike Soldiers Diagnosed With Traumatic Bra by kunleham(op): 8:56am On Jan 25, 2020
The Pentagon has announced that 34 US service members have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries resulting from the Iranian missile attack on US forces in Iraq earlier this month, in spite of Donald Trump's downplaying of the wounds as "headaches".

The strike came following Mr Trump's decision to kill Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, and the US said at the time that no American personnel were injured. Since then, Mr Trump has acknowledged that the Americans had been injured, but downplayed their significance.
According to the Pentagon, eight of the service members were flown to the US from Germany for treatment, nine are still receiving treatment in Germany, 16 were treated in Iraq and have returned to duty and one was treated in Kuwait before being returned to Iraq.
The report comes just days after Mr Trump dismissed the injuries during a press conference in Davos, Switzerland, saying that the whole affair was "not very serious".

"I heard they had headaches," Mr Trump said. "No, I don't consider them very serious injuries, relative to other injuries that I've seen."

Those comments were swiftly criticised from veterans' groups, and by many who noted that Mr Trump himself avoided the Vietnam War draft after receiving a medical diagnosis for bone spurs.

"Don't just be outraged by #PresidentMayhem's latest asinine comments," wrote Paul Rieckhoff, the founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, on Twitter. "Take action to help vets facing" traumatic brain injuries.
The delay in reporting the injuries has been explained by the Pentagon as a function of the difficulties facing diagnosis of traumatic brain injuries, which can take time to become apparent.

On Wednesday, defence secretary Mark Esper deflected questions about the severity of the potential injuries, saying "this is mostly outpatient stuff" when asked by reporters.

"I'm not a doctor, I'm not the one evaluating them. Those are calls that will be made by the medical professionals on hand making those examinations," he said.

They came to the gristly conclusion after a neighbour discovered bones at the property near the south-western town of Lubin.

When police moved in, they found the body almost entirely consumed. Only a few fragments of skull and bone remained.

“We do not know the exact date, but in the period between 31 December and 8 January the victim was eaten by pigs,” Magdalena Serafin, the town's district prosecutor, told the Gazeta Wrocławska newspaper.

She added that pigs– two adults and about 12 piglets – were allowed to roam free throughout the yard where the farmer lived alone.

Speaking about the animals, one neighbour said: "'These pigs are gigantic, they run all over the property, it wouldn't have been difficult for them to get him.

"We are afraid of them and don't got anywhere near."

An autopsy will now take place on Monday, although Ms Serafin that, given the extent of the consumption of the body, it would be almost impossible to determine the exact cause of death.

The animals will be examined by a vet to determine any further clues, authorities said.

It is then understood that they are likely to be put to sleep.

But, seriously, did the US Embassy lie?.
We have to stop deluding ourselves.

Buhari is Nigeria's biggest hypocrite!

He and his party actually gave Nigerians fake hopes that
he was coming to change things only for him to worsen them
The issues here are beyond Buhari. Is it Buhari that it's driving on wrong side of the road? What about various governors what have they achieved? What about we the citizens? Let us be objective, all of us are involved.

Foreign AffairsTrump Threatens Iran With 'brand New Beautiful' Military Equipment Worth $2 Tn by kunleham(op): 4:45pm On Jan 05, 2020
Washington, Jan 5 (UNI) If Tehran decides to target a US base or US citizens amid the mounting tensions between the two countries, it will face a harsh response, US President Donald Trump said on Sunday, stressing that the US just spent $2 trillion on "brand new beautiful" military equipment.
"The United States just spent Two Trillion Dollars on Military Equipment.
We are the biggest and by far the BEST in the World! If Iran attacks an American Base, or any American, we will be sending some of that brand new beautiful equipment their way ...
and without hesitation!," Trump tweeted.
He also said that if Tehran attacked US, Washington would "hit them harder than they have ever been hit before!"
Trump previously stated that the US had identified 52 Iranian sites, including some that are "important" to Iran, that would be attacked "very fast and very hard" if Tehran struck any US citizens or assets.
The most recent escalation in Iran-US relations came as Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the elite Quds Force of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was killed in an airstrike authorized by Trump in the early hours of Friday.
While Iran was outraged by the move and vowed to take revenge, the United States said that the assassination of Soleimani prevented an imminent attack against Washington.
Foreign AffairsU.S. Oil Workers Leave Iraq After Air Strike On Iranian Leader by kunleham(op): 4:37pm On Jan 05, 2020
BASRA, Iraq (Reuters) - U.S. citizens working for foreign oil companies in the southern Iraqi city of Basra were leaving the country on Friday, the oil ministry said, after a U.S. air strike killed a top Iranian commander in Iraq.

Hours after the killing of Iranian Quds Force leader Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was with him, the U.S. embassy in Baghdad urged all its citizens to leave Iraq immediately.
Iraqi officials said the evacuation would not affect oil operations, production or exports from the country, the second-biggest producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries with output of about 4.62 million barrels per day (bpd), according to a Reuters survey of OPEC output.
Oil company sources told Reuters earlier on Friday that dozens of foreign workers were expected to fly out of the country. A Reuters witness saw a number of foreigners, including U.S. citizens, queuing at Basra airport and described the atmosphere as relaxed.

Some were travelling to Dubai on airline FlyDubai and others were checking in at the Qatar Airways counter.

A spokesman for BP , which operates the giant Rumaila oil field near Basra, declined to comment. Rumaila produced around 1.5 million bpd as recently as April.

Italian energy group Eni said the Zubair oil field, which produced around 475,000 bpd in 2018, was "proceeding regularly", adding it was closely monitoring the situation.
U.S. major Exxon Mobil declined to comment on whether it was evacuating staff but said production "continues normally" at its West Qurna 1 oil concession in the south of the country near the Iranian border.

"We continue to watch the situation closely," a spokeswoman said.

Exxon removed around 60 foreign staff from West Qurna last May after attacks near its oil facilities. The employees returned about two weeks later after the government agreed to provide additional security.

Schlumberger, which also works in southern Iraq, is evaluating the security situation, a spokesman said, declining to comment on the U.S. call for citizens to evacuate. Last year it won a two-year contract to drill 40 wells for Basra Oil Co.

Ian Bryant, chief executive of Canadian oilfield company Packers Plus, said he was "more concerned than ever" about the safety of their staff in Iraq, adding he was worried that U.S., British and Canadian citizens might get caught up in any unrest.

Genel , an oil producer in the autonomous region of Kurdistan in northern Iraq, said its operations were continuing normally. It did not comment on any staff movements.

Gulf Keystone Petroleum , which also operates in Kurdistan, said "while these events are taking place ... Gulf Keystone is closely monitoring the situation and operations at (the Shaikan field) are carrying on as per usual".

PoliticsNigerians Can’t Continue Going Overseas For Treatment — Buhari by kunleham(op):
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Friday, said Nigerians should not continue going abroad for medical treatment.

“Nigerians have suffered so much going abroad for medical treatment. This is not good for us and it must stop because we can’t afford it again,” he said.

The President, who himself had travelled to the United Kingdom for treatment on several occasions, stated this at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, during the inauguration and handover of completed projects to the management of the hospital.
He explained that the project was executed to check flooding and gully erosion in the hospital.

The President, who was represented at the event by the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, lamented the devastating effects of flooding in the South-East geo-political zone, saying the intervention project would bring relief to the hospital, the state and its neighbours.

He said the siting of the project in Ebonyi State signalled an end to the era in the country where some parts of Nigeria were neglected as a result of corruption and favouritism. He stressed that the location of the project in major teaching hospitals across the country showed that no part of the country would be neglected again.
He said, “We have paid very serious attention to the health of our people and will continue to do so. The projects you celebrate their completion today were seriously affecting the workings of this teaching hospital. But today, we can say their completion have started helping to improve on the performance and welfare of both the staff and patients of this hospital.
“I wish to use this medium to congratulate the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, and his team in the Ecological Fund Office; the project contractor, Messrs Amayaro Nigeria Limited, as well as the project consultant, Messrs Kanode and Associates Limited, for their commitment to ensuring timely and speedy completion of the project.”

SportsBatistuta: I Begged Doctor To Amputate My Legs by kunleham(op): 6:38am On Jan 01, 2020
Argentina legend Gabriel Batistuta has revealed he begged a doctor to amputate his legs after suffering years of mobility issues since his retirement in 2005.
The Fiorentina icon, who scored more than 350 goals for club and country throughout a 17-year career, has now undergone surgery on his ankle as he looks to "walk like a normal person again."
Batistuta has spoken before about the day-to-day physical agony of his post-playing life, an often ignored aspect of life as a professional footballer.

“I was crying from the pain so I asked a doctor to amputate my legs,” he told Corriere della Sera.
“I felt pain, pain and more pain. The operation was a solution I’d been chasing for at least six to seven years.
“In 40 days, once I remove the brace, we’ll know if the pain has disappeared and I can finally walk like a normal person again.”
The two-time Copa America winner, who also represented Newell’s Old Boys, River Plate, Boca Juniors, Roma, Inter and Al-Arabi throughout his prolific career, says he realised the extent of the damage done to his ankles immediately after he retired.

His remarkable tally of 54 goals in 77 international games sees him second on Argentina’s all-time top scorers list, behind only Lionel Messi. But Batistuta says he is far form the first goalscoring icon to have experienced such problems off the pitch.
“As soon as I stopped playing, I found my ankles to be in pieces,” he added. “Bone against bone, supporting a weight of 86-87 kilograms. The slightest movement became agony.
“I had the same problem as [Marco] Van Basten, who said enough was enough at 28 years of age.
“I couldn’t get out of bed on some days. I’d be crying with anger and I said to myself: ‘It can’t go on like this.’
“I felt sick, so sick that I went to a doctor friend of mine and asked him to amputate my legs. I prayed to him, I insisted. I told him that this was no longer life.”
While Batistuta has never managed a professional side in the 15 years since he retired from playing, he has been linked with a move into management on more than one occasion in recent years.

According to Ferdinand, Lewandowski is the best No.9 in the world after he scored four goals in his side’s 6-0 victory against Crvena Zvezda in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, while Kane is an all-round great No.9 after he scored a brace in Tottenham’s 4-2 win over Olympiacos last night.

“Kane is somebody who prides himself on goals. He’ll know every detail,” Rio Ferdinand said on BT Sport.
“This guy, he’s always scored goals. What’s great about him is he scores every type of goal.

Sports'i've Slept With Ronaldo More Times Than My Wife!' by kunleham(op): 2:23pm On Dec 14, 2019
Former Brazil defender Roberto Carlos has lifted the lid on his time at Real Madrid.
The full-back, famed for his rocket of a left foot from dead ball situations, was a key member of Real’s ‘Galactico’ sides, and he admitted that the players may have wielded too much power at the club in that era.
Carlos has fond memories of a “crazy” time, especially that spent with a friend from their early days back home in Brazil.

“I met Ronaldo in 1993 and from that moment we always shared a room,” he told Portuguese television, as quoted by AS. “I’ve slept more times with Ronaldo than my wife!
“Today when I’m looking back I think; how is it possible that we got away with so much craziness?
“After every game it was private jets left, right and centre. We’d meet at the private terminal at [Madrid airport] Barajas and [David] Beckham would be off god knows where, [Luis] Figo and [Zinedine] Zidane would be off somewhere or other, Ronaldo and me…and we had to train the day after tomorrow.
“I used to pray for Saturday fixtures so I could go to the Formula 1 on Sunday. It was private jets all over the place. It was crazy.”
The antics may have been fun for the players, who were a close-knit group, but some managers' attempts to wrest control of the dressing room spelled the end of their time in Madrid.

“During the Galácticos era there were seven of us… it created a dangerous situation in the dressing room.
“We always managed the situation well, we got along well, but [Jose Antonio] Camacho didn’t and he only lasted 10 days.
“He came into the dressing room, said hello to everybody and was very serious, a man with a lot of history at Real Madrid.
“Then he said: ‘I want everybody here tomorrow morning at 7am.’ We normally trained at 10:30. We talked to him to try and get him to change the time; we had our habits.”
Another short-lived appointment was Vanderlei Luxemburgo, and Carlos says he and his pal Ronaldo saw him off after a controversial decision to limit players' access to pre-match beer and wine.
“Ronaldo and me told him: ‘Professor, people here have their habits, you’ll see what they are, but don’t try to change them. Don’t take the wine off the table or stop the beers before dinner or you’ll find yourself with a problem'.
“What did he do? First he took away the wine, then he banned the beers. He lasted three months. Football is a small world, the directors heard about it and it was “adios.””

Eegun is a variant of Yoruba language just like Ijebu or Ijesha.
