Nairaland / General / Do Nigerians Get Satire? by LA2(m): 12:13pm On Dec 20, 2010
Once upon a time in Nigeria, reading newspapers was a way to improve ones grammar and prose, such was the professionalism of our journalists.
Today however, and especially with the spread of the internet, Nigerian journalism seems to have gone the way of every other thing in the country - witness the poor reporting, sensationalism and obvious lies published on some Nigerian news websites.
Well, I for one found it refreshing to discover a Nigerian 'News' website that tells you upfront that all their stories are made up. Yup, that's right, all fabricated!
But why would they do that, you may ask. Well, wazobiareport.com is a satire website, and as the site itself tells you, all the stories are 'BS made up to entertain you.'
Much as I enjoy the daily articles and the insane replies sent by their resident Agony aunt Ngozi, I still can't help asking myself, "Do Nigerians get satire?"
Politics / Re: Do You Still Trust Sahara Reporters? by LA2(m): 11:47am On Dec 20, 2010
It's not only Sahara reporters. News sources from Nigeria today are full of blatant lies, sensationalism and outright misrepresentations.
That's why I now go to www.wazobiareport.com to get my Nigerian news. At least they are honest enough to tell you upfront that it's all made up.

Our Beloved Information Minister is only after her own share of the 25% of the Nation's budget that lawmakers take home
Here is the proof:

Obasanjo is not done yet with this guy, http://www.wazobiareport.com/default.aspx/Obasanjo-proceeds-to-India-for-proper-cooking,-dares-Fayose-to-round-two
Come to think of it, what we are talking about here is an attack on a former democratically elected president of our dear beloved country. Isn't this an attack on us as a nation?
Politics / Re: Four Persons Arrested Over Stolen Election Machines by LA2(m): 12:42pm On Dec 14, 2010
Group claims responsibility for theft of election machines

A group describing themselves as the New Nigeria Patriotic Front, have claimed to be the lack of brains behind the recent theft of election machines in Nigeria.

A number of direct data capture machines belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and meant for service in the upcoming elections, recently vanished, causing Jega to write a CV - just in case.

In defence of the INEC Chairman, it must be said that he is not a magician, and neither are his commissioners, so it is quite disingenuous for people to blame him for not keeping the machines safe from thievery.

Speculation has been rife over who orchestrated the theft. Some people have sworn to have proof that the machines were stolen to order.

Sources have also claimed that the secret police are working on a lead that involves the chieftains of a certain do-or-die political party.

The New Nigeria Patriotic Front contacted the police via a 'number withheld' phone call to claim responsibility for the deft heist. Due to bad network connection, they had to call back several times.

The group said that they would have come out earlier but had to wait till now because the phone numbers for the police weren't going through,

OBJ to attempt to give a damn

Ota Farm, Ogun State - Former head of state, and the man who has ruled Nigeria for the longest cumulative length of time, Retired General Olusegun Obasanjo, has told Nigerians that he will finally attempt to give a damn.

Hosting reporters at his Ota Farm, OBJ, as he is fondly known, took members of the press on a tour of his thriving business. He was particularly keen on showing off his flourishing cassava plants.

In his trademark jocular manner that has made him a delight with journalists, Baba, as he is also called, treated his guests to a series of interesting titbits on farming:

"Sometime ago, when we were in America on a tour, we met some farmers who told us about new scientific methods of farming, like talking to your plants and giving them names. This one here is Atiku, see how big its head is? I talk to all the plants at least once a day when I'm not away from Ota. See how well they are doing?" ,

Politics / Re: Did Anyone See Sanusi & Aganga On Tv Answering Furious Senators? by LA2(m): 10:23am On Dec 02, 2010
Aganga and Sanusi summoned to national Assembly to teach lawmakers simple arithmetic

Abuja - Contrary to wide spread speculations, the minister for finance and the governor of the central bank are not in trouble for haven 'run their mouths' carelessly over state matters.

The duo has at various times over the past weeks, made extremely fantastic utterances capable of destabilizing the country. For instance, at a recent gathering of students, Lamido Sanusi, the CBN Governor, is said to have used the N word (Naija), which has been banned by the minister for information.

Sanusi also recently claimed that 25% of the Nation's budget is designated as lawmaker's awoof. While not at all shocking - considering that Nigerian lawmakers are the highest paid in the world - several Nigerians are still finding the revelation a little hard to believe.
As one 'Abuja Big Girl' put it: "Twenty-five percent? I don't believe it. Everyone knows that Honourables tip between fifteen to twenty-five k, and senators, between fifty and a hundred. If they really get 25% of Nigeria's money, wouldn't they be tipping more?" ,
