Politics › Re: Makinde Announces Ladoja As Chairman Oyo Council Of Obas, Alaafin Absent | by LabStores: 7:29am On Jan 16 |
seunmsg: My brother, there is a big difference between the position of the Ooni and Alaafin. Ile Ife is the source of all humanity. It is our orirun. Whether you’re Alaafin, Oba of Benin, Olu of Warri, Oba of Lagos, Olubadan, Alake etc, we all trace our ancestry and royalty back to Ile Ife.
So, the leadership position of the Ooni is inherent. All Yoruboid groups don’t argue about that. We cannot joke with our source because doing that will amount to denigrating our history.
Alaafin on the other hand has no such inherent leadership position. He became powerful strictly as a result of military conquest. Sadly, he no longer possesses that military power to subjugate other towns. So, nobody owes him any loyalty again. All the vassal states under the old empire are now independent towns under the sovereignty of Nigeria. Ilé ifẹ is the orisun of humanity indeed. Before oduduwa, who was the ọọni of ìfẹ? Was there anything like ọọni? Ọọni title Just even came up in the 19th century. Was oduduwa ever the ọọni of ìfẹ? |
Politics › Re: Makinde Announces Ladoja As Chairman Oyo Council Of Obas, Alaafin Absent | by LabStores: 7:26am On Jan 16 |
Shikena: Very soon Modakeke people too will start claiming empire. Yoruba traditional institution is gone I swear When it comes to ọọni, we are preserving culture and history, but when it comes to Alaafin, these fools will tell you terms have changed and the empire has fallen. It's so shameful. |

Amotolongbo: Before Oranmiyan was born. All written by the Oyo apologist were fake. I would accept them as fact if you could back them up with any scientific proof and not the usual tales by the moonlight stories.
You can’t engage the colonial leaders to rewrite our history. First back your nonsense up with facts first. Where did the ìfẹ empire come from? You people just hypocritically like to formulate nonsense. |

emee701: Ibadan cannot be subjects to alaafin because Ibadan soldiers were already stronger than Alaafin. Ibadan was the strongest as at this time So you are capping See another senseless comment. Who constituted the Ibadan military in the first place? Are the Ibadan people different from ọyọ people? |

Amotolongbo: Look into the mirror, what you see in the mirror is “senseless hypocrisy and bias”.
Ife was also an empire but little was documented and written about it until the recent archeological findings. Ife still retain its king, part of its land with the monuments, crowns and there was no evidence of discontinuity in throne. Could all these be said about Oyo empire? Lol Keep deceiving yourself No be only ìfẹ empire, na iwo empire Very funny people... You just want to twist and change history by force. When did ọọni started becoming king? |

Politics › Re: Makinde Announces Ladoja As Chairman Oyo Council Of Obas, Alaafin Absent | by LabStores: 9:26pm On Jan 15 |
seunmsg: You actually gave a wrong analogy.
1. In a democracy, the president is elected to lead a sovereign state. In the old Oyo empire, the Alaafin used military might to subjugate and control so many towns. Once the emperor loses the military power, all previous tributaries will gain their independence. Some can even become more powerful than the old empire. A good example is the British empire that is now a toothless bulldog and America, a former colony that is now more powerful. So, should the American president still be paying homage and taking orders from the British crown?
2. The Old Oyo empire was completely destroyed. It no longer exists. Ibadan was founded after the destruction of the old Oyo empire. So, due to the need to preserve the history of an empire that was once great, Ibadan leaders thought it wise to recreate another Oyo royal dynasty at Ago Oja, a place very far away from the original Oyo that had been burnt down by Ilorin forces. Prince Atiba, one of the surviving prince of the old Oyo was crowned and they used their military power to protect him. So, it wasn’t a case of a vassal state defending the empire and rescuing the emperor in a war situation, it’s the case of a new power helping to preserve the history of an old power.
3. We are now in a democratic republic and everyone is subjected to the rule of law. The law setting up Oyo State council of Obas is very clear; the chairmanship must be rotated between the Olubadan, Alaafin and Soun. So, this is not even about any history but the law. If the Alaafin thinks there is something wrong with the law, he should go to court and challenge it. It’s that simple. You're just mixing things up and formulate blatant nonsense. Please tell us more about 2. |

MrPaul2: Where did you get this your history from? How many years is the alafin office and how many is that of ooni? 100yrs against over 1000yrs. You really make me laugh with this your history Lol Which one is 100 years and which one is 1000 years? Some of you just want to change history by force. It's a shame... |
