fkaz: ABUJA—The Federal Government achieved 6,443 mega watts of electricity power, at the end of last year, the Minister of State (Power), Mrs. Zainab Kuchi disclosed yesterday.
Kuchi noted that power transmission peaked at 4517.6mw on December 23, 2012 due to additional 450mw generated in the fourth quarter. According to her, the Federal Government would continue to pursue its action plan towards the realization of the 10, 000 mega watts at the end of the year.
This she said, would be achieved through the implementation of a variety of strategies which would include funding the sector through private sector participation.
Besides, sources of the power generation would be expanded to include renewable energy and rural electrification.
Similarly, Mrs. Kuchi said government would fund power transmission projects outside budgetary provisions.
Also speaking, the Spokesman of the Transmission Company Nigeria, TCN, Dave Ifabiyi, said his organization would work assiduously towards a consistent upscale performance of the sector.
“As gas supply continues to improve and more National Integrated Power Projects (NIPPs) come on stream, the transmission and distribution companies will continue to harness every available generation to ensure that stable electricity supply is delivered to electricity customers”, he said.

Fatdon: Gunmen on a motorcycle kill three people when they open fire on a group of Muslim worshippers in the northern Nigerian city of Kano, the latest such attack in the region, say police.
KANO – Gunmen on a motorcycle killed three people on Monday when they opened fire on a group of Muslim worshippers in the northern Nigerian city of Kano, the latest such attack in the region, police said.
Three gunmen fired into a group of people preparing for evening prayers in a business district of the city, the largest in Nigeria’s mainly Muslim north, police spokesman Magaji Majia told AFP.
“The three gunmen came on a motorcycle around 6:00 pm and opened fire on a group of people getting ready for the evening prayers at a popular tea-selling spot opposite the zoo,” Majia said.
One person was also injured in the attack.
Gunmen thought to belong to Islamist extremist group Boko Haram have done scores of such shootings in Nigeria’s north, though criminal gangs also carry out violence under the guise of the group.
Violence related to Boko Haram’s insurgency has left some 3,000 people dead since 2009, including killings by the security forces. www.vanguardngr.com/2013/01/gunmen-fire-on-muslim-worshippers-kill-three/ |

Sincere 9gerian: Since I've been hearing or reading reports on Buhari and his presidential ambition, I've never heard him state what he intends TO DO if he gets voted in as president.
Dont we have the RIGHT TO KNOW what Buhari intends to do with power?
I dont know about you but I have the right to know what Buhari PLANS and INTENTIONS are in the following critical areas:
1)What will Buhari do about power supply? Will he stop or continue with the privatisation and liberalization? If he intends to continue with privatisation, what then is the need since the incumbent is already doing a good job in that direction.
2)What will Buhari do about rail transport? Will he continue the ongoing massive construction of old and modern rail tracks? If yes, then no need because the incumbent is already doing a wonderful job in that direction.
3)What will Buhari do about our airports? Will he continue with the ongoing reconstruction? If yes, then the incumbent is already doing a fantastic job in that direction.
4) what will Buhari do about our roads? Will he continue the ongoing reconstruction of Abuja-Lokoja, Benin-Ore, Enugu-Onitsha, Kano- Maiduguri, etc roads? If yes, then no need because the incumbent is already doing that.
5) What will Buhari do to uplift the standard of education? Will he continue with the increased funding of govt owned higher institutions, UBEC interventions in basic educations, distribution of basic education textbooks, building of Almajiri schools, etc? If yes, then he shouldn't bother because the incumbent is already doing that.
6) What will Buhari do about Agriculture? Will he continue with distribution of subsidized fertilizers, free improved seeds, opening up of value chains of key crops, etc. If yes, then he shouldn't bother because the current minister of agric is already doing a marvelous job. Who will do agric better than Akinwumi Adeshina?
7) How will Buhari create jobs? Will he be banking on the same agric sector to create jobs, YOUWIN and schemes such as the ongoing women and youth empowerment programme, etc? If yes, why bother since that is already ongoing?
How does Buhari hope to improve our economy? Which Alhaji does he hope to appoint as finance minister? Who can improve our economy better than Okonjo Iweala? Which coach will chose Ahmed Musa ahead of Messi? Does Buhari intend to sack another 1million civil servants like he did in the 80's? We have the right to know.
9) How does Buhari hope to fight corruption? Will he use the EFCC? Will the courts be taken over by the executive? Will the EFCC and ICPC be scrapped? Does Buhari intend to be the prosecutor and the judge to hasten quick dispensation of justice? Will he set up military tribunals? What does Buhari intend to do to reduce corruption in Nig?
I have the RIGHT TO KNOW and I think many Nigerians would like TO KNOW TOO! K |

Politics › Re: Obasanjo Has No Choice But To Back GEJ In 2015 – Presidency. by lacasa: 12:52pm On Jan 07, 2013 |
Fatdon: Despite the constant denials and dodgy response of the presidency to talks on whether President Goodluck Jonathan will run for a second term, the body language of the president, his aides and even close confidants, suggest he will run. Whats more? The Presidency is very optimistic that should President Goodluck Jonathan decide to run for a second term in 2015, no individual or group can stop him from exercising that right; including former President Olusegun Obasanjo who they say, has no choice than to support Jonathan for a second term in office.
This view and others was given on Saturday in Abuja, when Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Barrister Ahmed Ali Gulak, said the constitutional right of President Jonathan to contest the 2015 presidential election is non-negotiable, even as he expressed confidence that in the event the president decides to run, he would perform better in the North than recorded in 2011.
Gulak, while speaking on the Obasanjo factor said, “Nobody is God, nobody should play God, no one is indispensable. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, no doubt, is a well-respected leader who has played his part in developing the nation; he is a well-respected man who is like a father. But the truth is that just as people say he is a benefactor of the president, others have been his benefactors, too.
“You know you come you go. When your time comes and goes, so be it; only he cannot pick a leader for this nation because Nigerians have not conferred on him the right to pick their leaders for them. This is more so when Nigerians are right-thinking people whose brains work. So, when people continue to express certain views as if the president and the former leader are at war to the extent that such can affect his chances of returning for a second term should he decide, it baffles me.
“There is no war at all, and in fact, there are many individuals who can play roles, not a single person making it work. There is no doubt the former president has influence, but it is limited to a certain level. The truth is that as a member of the PDP, as a former president under the party, as a former chairman of the party’s BoT, and as a member of the same body, former President Olusegun Obasanjo will eventually have no choice than to support a second term should Mr. President decide to run both before the primary and after the primary.”
In what might come as a rude shock to some governors of northern extraction who are rumored to be eyeing the Aso Villa – the seat of power, Gulak says: “Northern governors can’t stop Jonathan. Most of the governors making statements are serving out their second terms, and what do you expect?
“Most of them are aspiring to be president and they cannot stop Jonathan if he decides to contest. How many governors stood for election and failed? They can challenge, yes, but cannot defeat him. Everybody has the right to contest. They can challenge President Goodluck Jonathan, but defeating him? I would say no. None of the governors has the potency to defeat President Jonathan, both within and outside the party, if he decides to contest.”
