I dont know why I prefer fed schools.

I dont think graduates from private universities are as smart as those from public schools.

I do not mean smart in academic sense. I mean smart in everything.

Did you attend both schools and come up with these points or you are just saying this blindly after attending a Fed Uni

Wash..... In this part of the Country i come from "North". Private Universities are mostly attended by the Children of the rich or families above average, whom's Children are on most occasions not serious, some of them withdrawn from Public Universities for poor Academic performance and for some, the parents already know that the Children cannot cope in a Public Universities given the high standards and as such prefare Private Universities.

I've Attended a couple of Job Interviews with the Private Sector. One with First Bank, and some Other Private organisations in which the minimal requirement for a graduate from a Public University was 2nd class lower, (2.2). that of a private University graduate was second class upper (2.1), that tells u all in terms of quality

I would rather have a University Certificate from Public University like ABU, U I. Uni Lag. to mention jst few, than to have one from any of Nigerian Private University

Hunkle, I am sure you would argue as well, that a poly is better than a Uni in the UK...

End of the day, live within your means.... if you can afford a private Uni - fine attend the best, if you can attend a public one - fine go with the best even if you can afford a foreign one do likewise. there is no basis for comparison between any of the 3 to be honest.

We would review this in 10years time...

They must be looters who can never encourage a kid to work hard. I will only buy my kid a car or even a house under the conditions stated.

I think at this stage, funding the university and other higher learning institution should be of utmost priority rather than granting free education to the already populated tertiary institution.
The Countries that do this free education, lack students in these programs not infrastructure.
Its like putting the cart before the horse.

Neither of them really had any meaningful contribution to the development of the country...

ndu_chucks: My apologies. I assumed that folks had been following all the announcements made by the FG rgarding this policy. Making brand new cars available to Nigerians, albeit, low end cars is a good thing. But for goodness sake, why increase the import duty for all imported vehicles by 250% to achieve this goal? The proposed increase in tariff on Tokunbo cars is quite foolish.

The consequences for each side of the sector, including ordinary low income earners, job and business losses are issues at stake. Importers of vehicles, big and small, and other stakeholders, including terminal operators, mainly Roll-on- Roll-Off (RORO) operators who are on 32 years lease agreement , stevedores, freight forwarders, are grave and quite negative.

If the Feds must increase tariffs, they should do so gradually. This dramatic increase in customs tariffs is not necessary to achieve the result of making cars available at N1 - N1.2million. How does the Feds plan to replace the jobs which will be lost as a result of this policy.

A similar policy was instituted to support local rice industry last year when importation of rice was banned. What has happened is that a bag of rice costs more now than what it was last year. As at last year, a bag of good rice sold at N6,500 and N7,500. But because of the policy, a bag of rice now sells between N10,000 and N12,000.

This people should think this through. Manufactures can produce cheap cars without the destruction of livelihoods of possibly millions of Nigerians.

Very well noted, however, if you look at the cost of gsm tarriffs in 2001 when they began in Nigeria and now, I am sure you would admit there is a lot of price difference; likewise the number of subscribers. It is even interesting noting that the main telecommunication outfit back then (NITEL) has no place in modern day telecommunications in Nigeria.
I am very sure the more players there are in the production of rice in Nigeria (from the cultivation to distribution), the prices of these would drop (extremely simple economics demand and supply rule).
I am sure thinking outside the box (e.g exporting) for importers of vehicles to Nigeria wouldn't facilitate the "destruction of livelihoods of possibly millions of Nigerians".

They are already been used as official vehicles in some ministries and parastatals here in Abuja e.g go to national population commission you would see the Innoson brands or the national assembly
