Yeah, may be the employer canceled the project and decided to repost it again. Just place your bid on the project again, if you are interested.

Forget that thing called "chat box" o. The only useful thing you can do with it is to chat with employers and attach documents, lobatan.
The only way you can reach out to new clients is through cold emailing, but not on freelancer.

I tried sending you a mail via the address on the ebook follow up mail (TAKE ACTION) but I kept getting a mail delivery failure. I signed up on FL using my facebook account. However, I am having some problems with the account. My profile summary won't save each time I fill it and click save. When I attempt to bid on projects, I am take to a page where am asked to complete my profile but when I fill in the required details, it doesn't save. I tried verifying my phone number but I keep getting error. All this issues just made me decide to put the FL idea on hold. I don't know if it would be best to just create a new mail and use it to create a new account cos am suspecting the facebook signup method.

It is better you create a new account using a new email. Then fill up your profile properly with an attractive profile description, picture etc.

Have you submitted the first 2 batches? If not, submit them and request for their milestones. If you have already submitted the first two, kindly tell him that you will start work on the 3rd batch only after he has released the 2 milestones, AND created the 3rd milestone. Also let him know that delay in setting milestones will also change your original delivery time.

Hmmm! I have worked for employers who did not set milestone before. Some of them paid, some didn't. But now, I don't work for employers without milestone. As soon as the project is awarded to me, I don't accept it until the employer sets the milestone. That way, I can cancel the award. But most often than not, I don't struggle with employers over milestone, they set it once the project is awarded. I guess that is because of my reviews. You will get to a point where employers will trust you more. But the safe way to operate on FL is by setting milestones. It is safe for you because if anything happens, FL will not defend you. You will bear the loss alone. So, weigh it very well. If you will like to take the risk, go ahead. If your heart tells you otherwise, don't do it.

Ok guys, here goes my weird testimony.

To start with, I'm a peppersoup addict. Not just any peppersoup, but fresh fish peppersoup with all the trimmings.

Before I began freelancing, I use to take it maybe once in a week if I was lucky to have any spare cash. But now, I confortably take it everyday without worries. Come to think of it, I was feeding the addiction last night as I completed a job.

Please help me out by giving me your opinion about something. Is there anytime ever you will consider working for an employer without a milestone request?

An employer from Australia contacted me about writing a 65 page eBook for her. I wanted to set three milestones and she refused saying she would pay me upon full completion of work.

I agreed and told her I would set one milestone instead which I will request for after we conclude the project.

She probably did not understand me because as soon as I accepted her offer, she said she would rescind because I set a milestone payment. I have sent her an apology via email but I am yet to get any reply.

My understanding is that the payment for the project leaves the employer's account and is kept with Freelancer. I probably think she believes she is paying me in full for the project before I even complete it.

She has no reviews so I believe she is new on the site.

Please, what is your take on this? Should one keep sentiments aside on every project or should one thread with caution on every single project?

Would love to hear from you on this.

@Jsayin, Hmmm! The ideal thing is to let your employer set the milestone. If she is new on the platform, explain the concept to her and how it works. You got it right, the employer pays into FL account and the money is released to the freelancer after project completion. But I trust Australian employers, they don't scam people. Since you have accepted the project, why not continue with it and trust God that she will not abscond with the work. It is well!

Good one @kachnov, the employer will pay the project fee into your account on FL. You can withdraw it into your Payoneer account (card) whenever you get it. Make sure you bid on at least 5 projects daily. It will enhance your opportunity to win.

@mercyland2015, you cannot know until he initiates a conversation with you. 2. You can't, until the employer decides to chat with you. 3. Click on "my projects", then "recent projects", then click on the "active bids" tab. 4. No you can't. There is no way you can follow up with the employer until he/she decides to contact you. This is why you have to write enticing proposal to attract the employer. FL blocks all contacts with employer about a year or so ago. It is well!

There is nothing wrong in writing samples, but when it is more than 1, my antennae is activated. You can write only one sample from one link for him. If he is not satisfied with that, he can move on. Make sure he sets milestone before you accept the project. You need to be careful if the guy is from Indian or Pakistan, he sounds like one.

I bidded on a job,the job was about social media promotion,the employer said he needed 2000 Instagram followers..and he said he was going to pay $30...he choosed me,we discussed and later he suddenly told me he was going to pay 20$,for my mind I was like "this guy dey craze ni" well I was patient,I did the job,he payed me the money,I collected his number and added him on WhatsApp,we started chatting like friends,I saw a lady on his dp and I started teasing him of how beautiful his gf is and how handsome he is too,I started making the guy feel so very important and he started liking me and according to him he was surprised that I could still be friendly with him even after he paid 20$ instead of 30$ which he promised me,few days later he sent me a message and said he has a job for me,the job is about designing 10 different book covers and he promised to pay $450 for the job,he gave me all the info about the book which should be included in the cover,I do not know how to design but I quickly went to a business centre around my area,there is a guy there I know there that is a great graphic designer ,I told him about the job,to cut the long story short after a week he did everything and I paid him just 10k...to him the job was not a big deal,I contacted the employer and delivered the job to me,he sent 450$ to me through western union,...and he even told me he and his friends have more jobs for me....

what I learnt from my experience is that do not only look your employer strictly an employer but also see how you can create friendship with him because that is going to help you to get more jobs from him,and also be always patient with your employer,if I was not patient I would not have become friendly with the guy after he first dissapointed me with the first job...

Hello house. today makes it 7days since i joined freelancer which was a good way to keep busy while I await some other things. Hmmm, make i share my tori. i got my first project about 24hours after opening my account, the guy asked me to write 20articles on one dead topic: locksmith.

the guy's name is MOHDS2, Yes, I will not forget that name in a hurry. The guy-man gimme 2days, 20 articles, 500words each. I collect the thing happily without asking questions, $1 per article. Kpa Kpa Kpa, I begin type, google anything. Anytime I send articles to him, he will be like: ' grammar not good, check very well'. For my mind I dey wonder wetin dey worry this guy, abi make I vex show you my TOEFL? But I will calm him down, that his job is an impossible one and that i will improve tho. Na so I take write 20 back breaking articles fininsh and the guy man say my articles na rubbish. But why u no tell me say na rubbish after 10articles? he no gree talk. Ok, I decided to learn from it but my mind they curse am. later-later, him con ask me say he go want make i continue, I tell am say make him carry him market go somewhere else.

I begin dey bid, I dey chook head for anything. Na so i come see one croatian, my realest nigga wey say him need one article. The guy specifically said he will only accept people that have at least 100reviews. But I knew i could do this thing better than anybody else, it was about cars. When he messaged me, the first thing he said was that he thinks am the ideal guy for the job. We got chating, the guy like football, na so I carry am enter Luca Modric tori. meanwhile, all those experienced freelancers them, them dey form boss, na them occupy top ranking. there is this particular guy wey like to dey form don, him name na RAJAT, una go sabi am, him own too much. Ask me who dey number one for rankings, na that goat wey swindle me, MOHDS2, the guy dey for number one dey form galant, him even get about 900reviews and me no get anyone. the thing come be like where me n plenty people dey fight on top one girl, meanwhile, this same girl dey sneak enter my room for night, wetin we dey do for room? They were busy bidding, while i was chatting with the same client. When I give this guy him 300hundred words, the guy gbadun my handiwork die. i come even add jara for am, i give some expert recommendation in another MSword file. Na so I take win bid o. And the guy don guarantee me jobs. But I mess up the negotiation tho, d guy get racing team, my amateur side still caught up with me.

I was so happy when I beat all the dons dem, collect contract, the fact say I win bid where dat guy wey maga dey still dey sweet me. It was a classic case of IN YOUR FACE. I have dunked on people on the basketball court, I did it again on freelancer. heheheheheh.

The same yesterday, I did a $2.5 job but the guy paid me $3.5 this morning. Also yesterday, I wrote 1000 word article just to convince one philipino make hie gimme job. The enjoy chop my work like indomie, carry my work enter copyscape, e no see one single wuruwuru, him even send me the cpyscape screen shot come tell me where I need to improve. This morning the guy don sign me, say make I go enter my details for one site but na 1000rupee I first bill am but we go still negotiate cos that their philipino exchange rate get as e be.

Ladywriter there is a BIG problem here. A sad trend is forming. I once told you to EMPHASISE strongly to new freelancers that they MUST read ALL the posts on ALL the pages here with PEN and PAPER before ever thinking of opening an account but you probably forgot. A lot of newbies are losing unearned money already and I don't know how motivating this is. I have seen a lot of similar complaints bordering on milestones recently. People do not want to read but they must be shown the importance of doing so

I suggest you put up a postscript at the end of each post you make. E.g. ... Read EVERY post on ALL the pages of this thread BEFORE opening an account with Freelancer. If you don't, YOU WILL NOT SUCCEED.

Also include this message in your first post on page 0.

Yes spoonfeeding is good but can be unproductive atimes. It's time to be more realistic. A freelancer is meant to have a self-made mindset - independent, curious, investigative etc. Not wholly dependent on others. I don't there is nothing that has not been dealt with here before. It takes a huge effort to keep answering the same questions over and over again.

These are totally avoidable mistakes. Imagine accepting a project with no set milestone, from an INDIAN!!!!!!!! for that matter? Chai!

More people are joining without bordering to study the business. Some do not even know FL has a comprehensive FAQ section. This is business, not a hobby.

My brother, I do tell them o. I receive lots of emails on daily basis asking me to explain the business. I do direct them to read the thread from the first page to the end. I also tell them that I offer online mentoring classes on the business. But, you know our people now, sometimes they do things their own way and then run back when they encounter obstacles. It is all learning curves sha. It is well!

@nbolaji, I hope the employer sets milestone for you. I don't work for Indians on Freelancer with or without milestones. I learnt my lessons the hard way. I say it very often here, don't accept projects without milestones or job clarifications. Ask your employer questions if he/she doesn't provide a clear cut explanation on what they want to do. Having said that, you can contact the support desk on freelancer and see what they can do to help you out. Also, keep contacting the employer. This is a learning curve for you, so don't be discouraged or worried. You will soon overcome it. It is well!

Some people are using phone. But i will advise you get a laptop or desktop to make it easy for you to work. ON FL, click on the finances tab, look for Withdraw money, click on freelancer debit card and follow the instructions that follows.

For those of us complaining about running out of bids, this is what I did and before i could finish my 100 bids, i had already made more than $80. As newbies, we are all given the opportunity to try out the PLUS membership plan(1 month FREE TRIAL VERSION), which comes with 100 BIDS, but to activate it, you would need to verify your means of payment, which i did with my GTB Mastercard, and then i activated the TRIAL membership. I enjoyed every benefit that came with the PLUS membership, 100 BIDS included (Remember say na just one month trial oO). I was placing bids for fun, and even after the trial expired, they still left me with the remaining BIDS, and thats how i still have enough BIDS left after approximately 2months on FL.

ABEG make sure you switch back to the free membership on the day the trial is supposed to expire, because when it does and you dont downgrade, dem go collect money from your local bank account, $9.95 to be precise, and una know say that na 2k for naija.

Hi, I don't know much about Elance. I tried using it, but i was not winning projects, so I left the platform. I work on FL and Fiverr. Nevertheless, I will try to answer your questions.

1. Milestone description is all about the stipulated time you want the employer to release the money into your account. This is usually done after you've finished the project and the employer is satisfied with your work. The date is the time you hope to finish the project.

2. You can sign up for a payoneer mastercard at www.payoneer.com. You will use it for withdrawal purposes on FL. I think it is also allowed on Elance. You may need to check it out.

Another thing you can do is to read the help section on Elance. I believe you will find answers to your questions there. All the best!

Profile Set up / Description

This is a very important aspect of your freelancer account. This is where you can market your skills and let employers know what you can do. Most employers read the profile description to know who you are before they hire you. If you are able to create an attention grabbing profile, your chances of winning projects will greatly increase.

Basically, your profile description should contain:
1. Your full name at the top
2. The skill you want to market on FL. e.g. Mine is written as Writer, Internet and Market Researcher. It covers all kinds of writing and research.
3. Introduce yourself - who are you? What is the name of your company (if you have one), mention your skills and provide a brief history of your journey in your career.
4. Bring out each of your skill and explain your level of expertise in a paragraph. For example, I wrote this paragraph on my E-book and Report skill, I wrote:

We write high quality, copyscape passed, well researched e-books for individuals and corporate organizations. We are also skilled in creating Bible study manuals and guides. We transcribe videos into e-books and also format e-books for Amazon Kindle platform.


Now, you know how to write a good profile description, log into your freelancer account and write a powerful description.
