If the project starts with $30 to.... Your bid amount cannot be less than that. It is either you increase it or leave it at $30. The 70% means your bid is getting low and will soon finish. Read the membership plan section. It is under your pic. Click on your pic and click on membership. Every membership plan has its own number of bids per month. Choose the one that is appropriate for your pocket. Don't worry, you will soon get used to the platform. All the best!

I need some good explanations here. When placing a bid of $30 for in stance, on the USD column, FL increases the amount. Does it mean that increased amount is what I will get in my account?
Also, on the DAY column, does it represent when I promise to deliver on the project?
Somebody should explain these columns to me. Thanks in advance.

The bidding section consists on 4 sections

Paid to you: The amount you want to collect for the project.
Freelancer project fee: The amount freelancer will remove as their commission
Your bid: addition of freelancer project fee and paid to you.

For exampele, if your bid amount is $30, freelancer will remove 5 0r 10% depending on your membership plan. 10% of $30 is $3. $3 will written in "freelancer project fee". Add $30 + 3 = 33. $33 will be written in "Your bid".


Deliver in: is the number of days it will take you to complete and deliver the work.

let me add... you can bid without requesting for milestone, once you're offered the job you can then chat with the employer and ask for milestone before accepting.

Some employers may not want to set the milestone once you accept the project. I have fallen into that trap a few time times. The best way is to set the milestone and wait for the employer to approve it before you start working on any project.

This may sound like an anecdote, but we all can learn from this. In this age and time, effective communication is about all we need to maintain any type of relationship - business and informal. We have people calling up their garri, yam, oil sellers on the phone, and telling them what they want. They will also say they won't come and collect those items by themselves, rather they will send someone. It takes a HUGE CUSTOMER SERVICE on the part of the seller to gain such TRUST

Bringing it nearer home, I will dwell on a little point that will highlight the importance of the bolded above.

How many of us are following our employers on FL? If you are not, you are missing a golden opportunity. But wait..... slow down. The hard work comes first.

Without GOOD PRICING, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, and TRUST, following your employer will not be of any benefit.

How many of us have bought an item from the market, and later saw where it was sold for 0.50k cheaper. Most times we feel we have been cheated without even checking if the QUALITY of the second item is the same as the one we bought. That is human nature.

Do you know that the gain market women make onba carton of beloxxi cream crackers is not up to N50? Why do they do this. They know they are in it FOR A LONG TIME. They know they are in a relationship-building venture. They know the only thing that can sustain them is a repeat customer. They know they can acquire many repeat customers by providing good prices, great customer services and trust.

So I ask, "how do you see your FL business?" How often have you seen a palm oil seller also selling cosmetics? As local and rustic as she may be, she knows her skill and specialization, and faces it with her full energy. Yes she knows that the restaurant woman down the road may be making more money, but she will never judge her the success of her palm oil business with the crowd in that restaurant.

I have seen many of us feel like they are wasting time with article writing because of the pay. Human nature. We've all been there. But do you realise that if you face article writing alone, and become so good at it, you can score writing projects of 100usd per 500 words. YES!! .....I know what you are thinking now. (On Freelancer?) NO!

Like ladywriter always say, article writing is like getting one's feet wet on FL. You are learning a whole business. You are learning pricing mechanics, customer service, skill development, international trade and finance etc. It is like any brick and mortar business.

You have American employers, how many of them did you send greetings on July 4? Or you do not even know what July 4 means to Americans?

If you do not want to get frustrated, have a realistic expectation. Do you know it takes some businesses from 6 to 12 months to break even, not to talk of profit? Patience man......patience woman. Rome was not built in a day. Do not take on skills you do not have passion for, just because you see someone making big from it. You may never be as successful. That person may have started 2 years ago. Pasion kept him that long. Are you willing to do it for 2 years before attaining that person's current success?

By all means, learn new skills. But make sure you are passionate in all. Passion is the only thing that will make you go the extra mile in satisfying your employers. Passion is the only thing that will keep you going when no jobs are forthcoming.

I may seem to have veered from the main thing I wanted to point out here, but all I have said so far MUST be realized before you can benefit from following your employer.

Once an employer you are following posts a new project, you will get a notification in your email with respect to that. FL will always tell us that our chances of getting hired by a former employer is very much higher than that of someone we have never worked for before.

Once you get the email alert, quickly check the project to see if it is within your skill and ability. If it is, then bid. This is where your integrity as a seller will either make you or mar you. If you have satisfied the employer previously, your chance of getting selected is high. If not, to your tents.......

I did a job for someone earlier this year. It was a Master's degree thesis. He wanted me to reduce the plagiarism content to less than 10% using Turnitin plagiarism tool. Only about 30% of the whole thesis was affected so it wasn't really a big deal. At my former rate of 2usd/500 words then, the worth of the project shouldn't be more than 50usd, and I could have finished it under 5 days. He simply told me he needed it in 2 weeks and offerred 80usd.

I did it in7 days, submitted it on the 10th day beating his expectations. His feedback was out of this world. We struck a good rapport.

He disappeared from my radar, and just last Monday, he posted a new project. I got the email alert and saw it was something I could do.

I decided not to bid. I rather elected to chat with him instead. (Please note that I have been sending hellos to him for months but no reply).

I started the chat and he was so happy. He immediately told me he just posted a project. He shared the details with me and asked if I can take it up though he only has 25usd budgeted for it. This is a simple proofreading of about 1000words job application letter.

He wanted it in 24 hours. I delivered in less than 11 hours.

They say, "Think outside the box."

I say, "Think like there is NO box."

@tranxo, thank you so much for this reminder. My husband actually taught me this principle. Sometimes I do it and most times I don't. Recently about 3 weeks, ago I decided to greet one of my clients. The greetings turned into another job opening worth a good amount of money. I quickly took up the project. I have since delivered the project and collected my money. I think I will work more on this area. Thanks again for this great insight.

Hi Bola, the right thing is to request for milestone while bidding. It might be too late after you accept the project, as the employer may refuse to do so and Fl would have removed their commission from your money.

No. You don't need to design a cover design except the employer request for it and that will attract more money. You don't even need to do it yourself. I have accepted e-books project with cover design before. What I do is to outsource the cover design on Fiverr for $10 (with stock image). But most employer only need the content.

No. You cannot withdraw to your access bank visa card. The only option left is a domiciliary (dollar) account. You can withdraw to your dom acct. Why not try and get the required ID for your payoneer card. It is easier and cheaper using the card.

Once you accept a project, FL removes their commission immediately. That is why you should make sure that your employer sets milestone for you before you accept the project. That way, you know you are going to be paid for your work.

To the glory of the Most High God, this is my second week on Freelancer and two things happened this morning.

1) I just closed a $20 project for a one page document on facial treatments
2) I won the bid for another $166 creative writing eBook project this morning on Freelancer!

It is amazing! I have prayed and told God I will take Freelancer seriously and let Him bless the works of my hand. I even fasted before you put up this post and it was like you were the answer to my prayers.

From looking at your own profile and reading your two eBooks (on article and eBook writing), I wrote a sample eBook on Health Benefits Of Tomatoes and added it to my profile. I also looked at the profile of a couple of freelancers who were winning projects consistently and tweaked my own profile. Then I started bidding on eBook projects.

One eBook client with a £271 (about $430) project has contacted me to edit a 100 word paragraph and I her gotten back to her. By His grace, she will approve my bid for her project.

I made a mistake on my second project. The client is owing me $8 for writing a total of four 1000 word articles. I was ignorant and did not understand how to set milestones. He capitalized on this and took advantage of me. He has not returned my emails. But I got wise like a serpent and read your previous thread:https://www.nairaland.com/1833989/how-make-1000-month-writing. Now, all my subsequent projects are negotiated with milestones.

Please, if you decide to work online, be persistent and excellent on your work ethics. Never do lousy, mediocre work and expect full rewards. But never also leave the God factor. And when you earn income, distribute to the orphans, widows and the helpless around you without expecting any reward.

Earning an income on Freelancer is REAL.

No. Usually, the employer will request for more than one article. The employer will discuss the project details with whomever he wants to handle the project.

Yeah, I understand, but my guys here are just starting up, gathering $1.5 - $3 articles till it becomes $3000 will take a long time and that is not advisable. Anything can happen at any time. It is safe to have the money in your card than to leave it there.

I wouldn't advise anyone to leave their earnings to accumulate to $3000-5000 before withdrawing. It is a risky venture! What I do is to withdraw mostly on weekly basis to my Payoneer card. It is free and safer there. I trust FL so much, but it is better to be on the safe side.

Editing and proofreading are easier than article writing and they dont come as often as article writing. When dem come manage come, you go see more than 100 people placing bids on them, and thats where your flag and reviews come into play

Hmmm! That is why you need to learn more skills. Easy tasks like article writing and data entry gets lots of bids. But not Market and internet research, competitor's research or other forms of research that is brain tasking but worth it at the end. E-book and report writing is also a good skill you can learn. A 5000 words e-book can go for $100 - $200, depending on the client's budget. These skills are not as difficult as you think, you only need to use your brain and your writing skills and at the end you smile to the bank big time.

Hi @mercyland. 1. You cannot contact the employer until he decides to contact you after bidding.
3. You cannot determine identity and the username until the project is awarded to you. However, you can scroll up to see the flag and country of the employer.
4. You profile link is under your profile picture. Click on your picture and you will see a drop down. Search for profile there and click on it.
