Okoyeebows: Wisdom all over your post. The only slight correction I'll make is that there is nothing stylish about it. IPOs are a great opportunity for insiders to cash out, & depending on how well the managers run the place, the investing public could end up being bagholders. 2 Likes |

Sad all around May the grieving family find comfort. We have no business going abroad for medical care. We spend between $3 billion and $10 billion a year, not counting travel, hotel, accompanying relatives etc. Apart from the financial loss, the early & unnecessary loss of lives that millions of families in Nigeria have been through is just devastating. This thing is not that difficult. There are models that can be explored to tackle healthcare for different (economic and other) segments of society. I guess when Buhari himself goes abroad for basic medical care, they won't bother listening to what could work. Time to ignore the government & just implement and solve problems. 3 Likes |

asobo: Wrong on Shagari appointing him! Gen. Akinrinade is probably Nigeria's most respected and professional General. Bonafide civil war hero who commands massive respect from Soldiers on both the Nigerian and Biafran side. Never blows his own trumpet and stayed out of military (or civilian) politics and coups. If he was still in the Army, there is no way Buhari or IBB would have dared, or successfully planned a coup in the 1983-85 period. He became COAS after the power trio (OBJ, Danjuma, Yar'Adua) handed over to civilians in 1979, and Shagari soon 'demoted him upstairs' as a General without troops in the somewhat ceremonial CDS position. Shagari didn't want to be seen to retire him, so he created a new, but effectively useless position for him, & Akinrinade promptly retired. In a way Shagari ended up hurting himself as there is no way Buhari, IBB and Abacha would have pulled the stunts they pulled under Wushishi with Akinriade in charge of the Army. It is not surprising that a man like Akinriade would look down on an Obasanjo who was an inferior officer, but blows his own trumpet and has been at the pinnacle of the Nigerian military, politics and nation. Gen. Akinriade (who hardly speaks) has been recently public about expressing his sadness at the state of the Nigerian Nation & has said that if this is the outcome we have, then the Civil war was a mistake and should not have happened. He says restructuring or breaking up should be explored if it will bring better outcomes for people than we currently have. https://www.nairaland.com/3883252/ken-saro-wiwa-vs-nnamdi https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/05/before-we-crucify-akinrinade/ https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/01/lt-general-alani-akinrinade-in-celebration-of-a-soldier-activist/ I don't think he is supporting Buhari or Atiku here, but just rightly calling out Obasanjo. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_WAFU_Cup_of_Nations 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations The 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations (also referred to as Ghana 2017) is an association football tournament scheduled to take place in September 2017 in Ghana. Sixteen teams from West Africa are expected to participate. The tournament is the first featuring national teams to be arranged by Fox Sports as part of a twelve year partnership between the broadcaster and the West Africa national football associations union.[1] Originally, one of the two host cities was set to be Sekondi-Takoradi however the local organising committee changed it to Elmina due to "structural defects at the [Sekondi-Takoradi] Stadium and the danger it could pose to fans during the tournament".[2] |

Famocious: Much better, but they won't be easy with this team we have. The good win vs Mali helped us top the group as we have the best points difference in the games between the 3 teams with 2 wins in the group. Angola vs Senegal will the a great game to see. Tunisia appear to have a clear path to the final, but strange things can happen. |
Sports / Re: Afrobasket 2017 by LagosEconomist: 8:28pm On Sep 10, 2017 |
Read the 1st post of this thread and you have your answer. Dalung, Musa Kida and Sam Ahmedu happened. The previous coach submitted a plan for this tournament months ago. They had an election a few weeks to Afrobasket (actually 2 elections) and 2 different bodies emerged. Dalung backed one of the bodies and those ones threw out Voigt and his plans. A lot of the players were not happy and a few that were contacted declined. Diogu accepted perhaps because he did not play during the last tounrnament. That is how we ended up with this team. The so called home based policy is just dumb. None of these clowns will go to a General Hospital to be operated by a 'Home based' doctor if he has access to Johns Hopkins in America. Not even the President with the billions spent on Aso Rock clinic. The top tournament in the continent is not where you develop talent. Grassroot work needs a long term development plan and the accompanying economic plan but these clowns don't really care about that. We have enough talent available to us to be the 2nd best team in the world and these jokers are determined to mess everything up. The Women's victory was down to Sam Vincent and Mfon Udoka, but I'm sure they would try to take the glory. Famocious: 1 Like |

Halftime 37-34 Nigeria. A repeat of the first quarter. Nigeria jumps out to a big lead, but allows DRC to close in towards the end of the quarter. Ike Diogu has seen limited action due to foul trouble, but still leads with 14 points. If we settle down and play good defence, D'Tigers should win this by double digits. |

Day 2 highlights: Senegal still showing that it is their tournament to lose as they demolished Egypt 87-52. Morocco get a surprising 60-53 win over Senegal. I didn't see it, but I hope the Angolans are not playing to get out of Dakar (avoid Senegal before the finals) Nigeria had more balanced scoring in the 90-67 win over Mali. D'Tigers won every quarter and opened the game up in the 2nd half and did not let Mali get back into it. Free throw shooting is still a concern though. We left 8 points on the floor vs. Mali. It could be a difference in a close game. Nigeria also had 25 turnovers in the game. Much higher than the 11 in the game vs Ivory Coast. We need to take better care of the ball. 1 Like |
