Ile-Ife:
Aboki means Friend, Ore
True.

My friends and I often call each other Ore (friend). I cannot imagine Yorubas finding it offensive to be called Ores because a lot of us call each other Ore. If anyone meant it derogatory, certainly it is that person's problem because to be called Ores (Friends) is a positive thing.

ckkris: Is nyamiri a racial slur?
What is the meaning of nyamiri?

Clitorial.Dept.:
I tire ohh. Ikenna banned me for using it.

Aboki as I understand translates to My Friend in Hausa and over the years it has been used by non-speaking hausas to address northerners (both politely or derogatory).
Very soon the will add alhaji or Eze or Sule as a racial slur.

daft1
Aboki was never a derogatory word. How is calling a people what they call themselves derogatory?

If anyone finds it offensive, certaily not the Hausas I have met so far.

Is ‘Aboki’ A Racial Slur?

Lately on Nairaland I found out the moderators especially the mechanic moderator of Politics section Ikenna ban people who refer to Hausa/Fulanis as Aboki. A number of my friends on Nairaland have complained to me.

This is the 1st time am told the word is offensive, unfortunately not from someone from the North but from Ikenna a champion Igbo course.

I asked my Hausa neigbour here in Lagos, what is wrong with calling Hausas Aboki, and he told me there is nothing absolutely wrong with it, that aboki means “my friend” and he calls all his friends either Aboki or by their first names. There are at least 4 hausa men with kiosks on my street all I call Aboki whenever I want to buy things from them and never has any of them complained to me that calling them Abok is offensive. I also served in Sokoto state, and I always called the Hausas around where I lived and served Aboki and never was I told to stop calling them Aboki.

So I don’t know what informed Ikenna’s decision to ban people from using the word Aboki. Or he is just being his overzealous self or making it look like he is seriously fighting for all tribes while I know he sole aim is to ban people who call Igbo Ibo against Seun’s decision that he cannot ban the use of such word.

Nairalanders, especially those from the North; is it offensive to call Hausa/Fulanis Aboki?

PoliticsRe: Edo Power Plant Project To Be Completed April – FG by LagosStar: 1:12pm On Mar 27, 2013
how about telling us about this project when completed and already integrated into the system?

Tired of all these "will soon be ready" and "will soon be commissioned" announcements.
PoliticsRe: Name National Library After Achebe: Reps To FG by LagosStar: 12:57pm On Mar 27, 2013
PointB: What some of you folks say or think about this is clearly immaterial. Achebe became Biafran as a matter of circumstance. 'Things Fall Apart' was written in 1958 long before the first bullet of the Biafran was fired. His last work, the memoir, 'There was a country' remains his personal accounts of the Nigeria civil war - a war sane nation should have sat down to discuss and appreciate with the intention of forestalling a re-occurance. But in typical Nigeria fashion, the opportunity was missed. Even in death his works reminds Nigeria of their glorious and rich past, her mistakes, and ultimately opportunity to make amends. Alas again like Nigeria we rather pander to sentiments.

Naming the National Library in his honour is too little a token to show apprecitaion to this great man. How about Abuja Univeristy in addition, and of course only for starters?
Why are you guys leaving the univeristies outside Biafa? 1st you guys wanted UI named after him, now University of Abuja. Why not University of Nigeria, Nsuka? At least when Biafra comes to be, there would be no need to rename UNN again.

PoliticsRe: Lagos Mass Transit Model Good For Africa – US by LagosStar: 3:05pm On Jul 10, 2012
All these haters and see no good people sef.

If you dont like Fashola and Lagos, stay in your state or jump over 3rd mainland bridge.

We true Lagosians are not complaining, if you have a governor half as good as Fashola in your states you all wont be running to Lagos in thousands everyday giving our governor more work to do.

Cant you people just appreciate someone performing for once. Have you killed or removed other governors not doing tenth of what Fashola is doing?

Whether you like it or not, Eko o ni baje forever! Haters!!!

kandiikane: I believe Lagos_star is inspired's monikers. He has only two posts and they were all made on Mr nairaland. For him to know so much about inspired_m's work, he must be him.
You are not as smart as I thought.

If I am for Inspired_m would I be exposing him? Am I helping him with my posts? am sure he is mad at me now.

Lets just say I have been around NL for a while and I know Mr Inspired_m very well. Read Odunnu last post on the other thread before this and you get a cue.

For the record I think he is above this and he should step aside and continue shopping for his designers.

shymmex: London2lasgidi is somewhere laughing hysterically at the contest..

The guy went from being unknown to being Mr. Nairaland, real nyggah shyte...

Only Vito can pull that off... cool
If you are his manager or his other halve tell him not to get comfortable even if he leads inspired by 20-50 votes.

Except the poll is ended abruptly, I will advice he has another 100 or more monikers in the reserve ready to vote especially in the last minutes.

With a proxy IP some people have learned how to create an email and register a new moniker every minute.

Thank me later. cool

May the most handsome best rigger win. cheesy

sexkillz: And for the umpteenth time, inspired ain't rigging. . . This guy has a huge fan base. Check him out in the autos section.

They rigging for him defo!

Talk the thing wey you know abeg. You dont know anything about this.

Are there regular posters in auto like other sections? or na him auto competitors wey they beef him constantly dey vote for him?

The guy controls more than 100 monikers created for marketing strategy and they can also be used to win this or any poll he is interested in on NL. If he wants to win this he will win it and he needs nobody's vote. Period!
