Amotekun makes 31 additional arrests in Ondo and 14 suspected kidnappings

In the past two weeks, men from the Ondo State Security Network, also known as Amotekun, have detained 45 suspected criminals, including 14 suspected kidnappers.

When Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the state’s security outfit commander, paraded the suspects in Akure on Tuesday, April 10, 2024, he stated that they had been apprehended in various actions throughout the state’s eighteen council areas. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

“Among the 45 suspects, we have 14 kidnappers, one dangerous driving, 5 burglary cases, two anti grazing, four destruction of public peace, stealing and buying of stolen goods,” he said.

“In the spirit of the festive period, the governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has directed that 28 of them, having been profiled as first time offenders whose offences are not ones with capital punishment.

“They are to be released to their next of kin for rehabilitation with strict warning not to perpetrated such acts again

“The remaining will face the full wrath of the law for committing such crimes because we have profiled them

“We have a particular case where we were able to break the kidnap syndicate in Akoko local government.

“In our effort to bring them out, the kidnapper that already confessed was matcheted by his fellow kidnapper in order to cover up the crime. The officers of the corps rushed the kidnapper to the hospital and he was treated. He has given useful information.

“This kidnap syndicate has confessed to several kidnapping activities in Akoko, Kogi and Edo area. We are still looking for their sponsor who is at large.”

Adeleye assured the people of the state that there would be no hiding place for criminals in the state.

At 37, Simon Harris becomes the youngest prime minister in Ireland

On Tuesday, April 9, Simon Harris took office as Ireland’s youngest prime minister ever, promising to bring “new energy” to the position.

Leo Varadkar, who abruptly resigned last month for personal and political reasons, is replaced by Harris, 37.

In a ceremony with President Michael D. Higgins, Harris was formally installed after the Irish parliament voted 88 to 69 in favor of him on Tuesday. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Following Varadkar’s resignation, the center-right Fine Gael party held an uncontested election and chose Harris as its leader. However, the youthful politician will soon face important elections and internal pressure to address housing difficulties and anti-immigration sentiment.

Harris told parliament:

“This is very much a partnership government and I intend to lead us in the spirit of unity, collaboration and mutual respect,” he said, watched by his wife and two children.



“I want to bring new ideas and new energy and, I hope, a new empathy to public life. Time is certainly short, and there’s a lot to do,” Harris added.



Varadkar quit last month saying that at the age of 45 he no longer felt he was the “best person” to lead the country. Varadkar, the youngest prime minister when first elected in 2017, said Tuesday said he “always knew” Harris would fill the top job.

“This has perhaps come a little bit sooner than he might have planned or expected. But I know he will rise to the occasion,” Varadkar said.



“He has the empathy, energy, experience, campaigning skills and political antenna to take us forward.”



Harris joined the youth branch of Fine Gael at the age of 16 and quickly rose through its ranks.

A county councillor at the age of 22, he was elected to parliament in 2011 as a 24-year-old.

At the time he was the youngest MP and was nicknamed “Baby of the Dail” (Irish parliament).

He was appointed health minister in 2016 aged just 29 and higher education minister in 2020.

Also, Harris’ prominence on social media, especially TikTok, has made him one of the most visible politicians in Ireland.

Man, DJ Spoiltkid, who was one of the people who disparaged Mercy Chinwo and Nathaniel Bassey, writes a lengthy apology and claims to be depressed after receiving the petition.

The young man, who goes by @spoiltkid on Twitter, apologized both by mail and on his Twitter profile.

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate for 2023, Peter Obi, responded to media allegations implying that the party’s leadership problems may force him to leave before the 2027 election.

After a N289 billion loss at the start of the week, bears return

The Nigerian stock market had a rough start to the week as losses at Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc and 29 other companies caused the total capitalization to drop by N289 billion.
The closing value of the All-Share Index was 104,136.35 points, a decrease of 511.02 points or 0.49 percent. Similarly, the market capitalization value dropped to N58.880 trillion at the end, losing N289 billion.
Price depreciation of large- and medium-cap stocks—Dangote Sugar Refinery, Transcorp Power, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), Transnational Corporation (Transcorp), and FBNH Holdings—was the primary cause of the market’s poor performance. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

United Capital Plc stated that they “expect the fixed income market’s activities to continue standing as key demotivators for equities investments” in the future.
A bearish spell will also continue to be placed on risky asset classes due to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) signals of a hawkish posture at its upcoming meeting, which is scheduled for March 25 and 26, 2024, in accordance with its inflation targeting framework.

However, given the level of activity by the bulls in the market, pending the release of the financial statements of some corporates (particularly the top tier banks), the dividend season and strong corporate resilience, we expect further bargain hunting for the rest of the week.”

Investor sentiment, as measured by market breadth, closed negative as 20 stocks advanced, while 30 declined. Ellah Lakes recorded the highest price gain of 10 per cent to close at N3.63, per share. Morison Industries followed with a gain of 9.93 per cent to close at N1.55 and SUNU Assurance up by 9.48 per cent to close at N1.27, per share.

Caverton Offshore Support Group rose by 9.38 per cent to close at N1.75, while Secure Electronic Technology gained 9.09 per cent to close at 60 kobo, per share.

Conversely, Jaiz Bank trailed behind with a 9.92% decline to settle at N2.18, per share, while Dangote Sugar Refinery and International Energy Insurance headed the losers’ table by 10% each to close at N53.10 and N1.35, respectively.

The family is divided” – Drama as Femi Falana withdraws from late Mohbad’s case

Amidst family disagreements and conflicting assertions, Femi Falana, a popular human rights activist, has reportedly resigned from the position of representing the family of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Nigerian man shares embarrassing video of how he caught his pastor drinking beer while holding a smoke inside a beer parlor.

The post was made on the video sharing platform, TikTok by a user, @kodymulah4, who stated it in his caption.

In the video, the pastor could be seen looking uneasy after noticing the full glare of his church member’s camera on him. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Pregnant wife arrested for allegedly faking her own kidnapping and extorting N2 million from her husband

A pregnant lady was detained by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on suspicion of staging her own kidnapping and demanding N2 million from her spouse.

Bennett Igweh, Commissioner of Police, made the arrest public on Wednesday. She said that her husband, Chiedozie Ubah, had filed a report, which led to the suspect’s capture. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Igweh says that on March 11, Chiedozie Ubah reported that his pregnant wife had left for a hospital visit but had not returned home to the Dei-Dei police station in Abuja.

Shortly after, Mr. Ubah received a distressing call from his wife, claiming she had been kidnapped and that her captors were demanding a ransom of N2 million for her release.

Out of concern for his wife’s safety, Mr. Ubah complied with the ransom demand and transferred N2 million into his wife’s bank account as instructed.

Upon her supposed release, he reunited with his wife and subsequently brought her to the police station.

However, during interrogation, the truth unraveled as the woman confessed to orchestrating the fake kidnapping scheme alongside a man identified as Walter Ezeala, who resides in their neighborhood.

Further investigations revealed that Walter Ezeala had received N800,000 from the ransom money, while the woman had pocketed the remaining balance of N1.2 million.

The police recovered a sum of N793,500 in cash, two FCMB ATM cards, and two Android phones from the culprits.

Both suspects are currently in police custody, and charges are expected to be filed against them for conspiracy, fraud, and extortion.

The statement reads;

“He later received a call through his wife’s phone number telling him that his wife had been kidnapped and demanded for two (2) million naira ransom before her release. He transferred the sum of two (2) million naira into his wife’s account as instructed by the kidnapper.

He later brought his wife to the station after her release. During interrogation, the wife freely confessed to have conspired with one man named Walter Ezeala ‘m’ living in the same street with them at Saburi to extort money from her husband.

The said Walter was arrested, and he confessed that his own share was eight hundred thousand (N800,000) naira and the lady took one million two hundred thousand naira (N1,200,000). The sum of Seven hundred and ninety-three thousand five-hundred-naira (N793,500) cash, two (2) FCMB ATM cards and two android phone was recovered from them.”

“My life is in danger” – Seun Kuti says, reveals why

Contoversial afrobeat performer Seun Kuti has taken to his social media page to disclose that his life is in danger.

He accused some unidentified individuals of attempting to “destroy and kill” him for speaking the “truth.”
