You dont have to go to Isolo-infact picking up in Isolo is a hassle for us as it means Jimmy has to haul things there from Ikeja-we are trying to prevent that because of police wahala by charging those who dont pick their items in Ikeja on pick up date a demur age.

I knew two akara sellers in Nigeria a while ago. The first was a woman in the town of Osu-believed to have the best akara in the world. If you have ever travelled from Lagos to Abuja passing through Ibadan and Akure-you will have passed through the town of Osu as the akara sellers rush passing cars and buses.
This first woman’s entire’s livelihood has come from selling akara and back in the early 2000s when I knew about her-she was making good money. Together with her husband –who was a carpenter –they had four children and taking care of them. But by all standards-they were poor.
The other lady was graduate who lived in the city of Ibadan. Jobless after graduating from UI- I think-she began initially out of frustration to sell Ogi (pap/corn meal) in the GRA area of Ibadan –going from door to door; an idea she got from the local ogi sellers in her estate-but rather than put a bucket on her head and calling “ Come and buy ogi and akara o”. Rather she went around all the homes distributing handbills and introducing her packaged bowls of ogi and akara options. 3 years after she started (this was back in 2002 or so) she was employing 30 people, had 3 vans for the business and was selling to thousands.
Both were selling the same product-one was making millions from it in less than 3 years when she was less than 30 years old and while the other had never counted N100,000 of her own money at one time in the forty years of her life back when I heard the story in 2002.
If you are selling cell phones, laptops, electronics, cars, clothes, houses-you have to create a strategy that takes you from good to better to great.

Another Line of Business
One of our customers recently purchased a Dell Laptop from us for 17k-he sold it for 29k-that’s 12k profit on 17k which is not bad. But in the course of the next one year-he could make another 100k from that one sale. How? By tapping into the Computer services business. The sales of laptops should over time account for less than 25% of your business sales. Your support and services business should bring in the other 74%. How?
Lets take the case of the Dell laptop sale. The laptop in question was a Dell Latitude D620 with dual core processor, 1GB ram, 60gb hard drive, wireless, bluetooth. There are many ways you can make more money from that one sale.
At the point of sale-offer other items like:
a) External hard drive for backing up of files
b) Laptop bag
c) Extended Warranty
d) Keyboard and Screen protector
e) Wired or wireless mouse
f) Referral commission for any of their neighbors, relatives and friends that they can refer to you.

Every laptop whether brand new or used-will get slower with each day of use due to many factors including bad downloads, viruses, malware, add-ons etc. When this happens-the laptop will get harder and harder to use.
Re-Installing the operating system is usually the best way to make the laptop work like new again. You can charge from 2k to 5k for this. When doing this-you may also need to back up the owners files and documents-you may charge them for this especially for people who have lots of movies and pictures.
Most laptops-especially the brand new ones come with the minimum specs. A laptop that can go up to 4 gigs of memory is usually sold with 1 or 2 gigs-increasing the memory will make the laptop easier and faster to use-you charge money for this.
Hard Drives: As people use their laptops and desktops more and more-they need more space; thus a need to change the hard drive for a bigger one.
Customer Network: Every person you sell to has friends, neighbors, colleagues-get names from them right at the point of sale. Its better than later as you don’t know if you might ‘offend’ the person by that time or you might even loose their contact info.
