quentin06: The money is only high when compared to the naira, its a function of the exchange rate, 35000 dollars or pounds per year in US or UK is a poor wage by their standards. What can you really accomplish with that in the midst of high living expenses?
If you left Nigeria for good why are you talking of converting your foreign wages to naira? Why cant you invest over there and forget Nigeria papapata. Yeah I understand. But we are not talking about $35,000 pounds or dollars per year. The target income here is from 45000 pounds/60,000 dollars a year. What’s your thoughts on that?? |

ednut1:
its not that deep, na bants mixed with facts.
According to the official documents from the tax body in UK, less than 9% of the population earned above 60k in 2019/2020 tax year. Dont let reddit people deceive you.
https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/percentile-points-from-1-to-99-for-total-income-before-and-after-tax
So using my friend as an example his 46k salary at a big four in midlands area of uk equals 34,528 a year after tax and 2,875 per month. Lets say he saves 30% of that amount ( i am able to save 35% to 45% of my net pay in Canada). That's about 9m naira when converted to Naira. For which job you wan save 9m in naira a year with 3 to 4 years experience asides international oil companies Nice nice at the bolded. I must japa too, I hope I find a way to audit really, so I can move easier. Cause na only oil company money fit keep me for this naija really. I suppose it’s easier to save more in Canada than UK right?? |

I’ve been to Reddit and saw people complaining a bit, I never said 60k was small so I don’t know how “I don’t have 100k in my account” came up. I only said don’t you think it is small and how much do people save from that, which you perfectly answered by mentioning it is a big man money in the UK and I now got to understand that, simple, but then your opinion anyway. |

OVB123: That is thisame question i was about to ask, they don't know that 60k pounds annually is nothing to write home about. Nigerians need to learn that it is not as easy as their think. I’m actually even thinking of hopefully see if I can relocate to Australia or Canada through a big four brand. I don’t like UK heard things are too expensive there. At least you can still save more in the other countries |

andrewbaba44: Chelsea front line choke ,dem no even know who to use and you want make dem buy more They are bang average, bench them and their head go correct. Even as our front line choke they aren’t producing goals then bring in those who can and bench those rats that can’t do nada. Jorginho should go, Kante contract shouldn’t be renewed in my opinion he has tried. Loftus should be benched, as for Callaghar I’ll cut him some slack as he’s still coming up. So what players do we have, maybe the forward is okay but we need a top striker hopefully the fofana guy gotten will perform. And oh, Sterling should be benched for captain America. I mean all shades of wrong in that team. So we need players jare |

Kipaji: Interesting. How recurrent do you guys think attemps to bill men are in Nigerian/African society? Very recurrent, any little thing that makes you mention money or food they use the avenue to Bill you. Only two girls haven’t done that to me, our discussion are about career, checking up on each other amongst a range of others. But you see the rest, their slogan “lemme send account for Christmas” “buy me pepper soup” “my birthday is coming, what will you give me” I find it quite annoying. I have a friend (girl), in fact she does the calling to me with her airtime and we can talk for minutes. The others just want to take money from you and not like I’m benefiting anything from them, purely chat buddies nothing more. Sickening man |

You commented on my thread when I asked whether to choose big four or IB (actually went for the big four reason being that I want to japa too. Advision: Yeah people do switch from one unit to another in the big4. In Nigeria, I think its down to some politics (securing the suppprt of senior staff in both arms or a strong business case for the move you from one unit to another e.g if you have certain skill needed there.
There's a fair chance transfers may not work out if the politics or business case doesnt click. You may check with current staff as to what your chances are.
However, as audit is now known to be an emigration pathway, I am fairly sure there would be scrutiny of such requests for its sincerity. Ok thanks, I will explore that option. Tho someone told me it’s easier to switch to audit from one big 4 to another than from within the same four. Nevertheless, I go for it. |

Janedoe27: Honestly if it’s not Audit in a big 4 I will advise you to go for the investment banking. As long as the investment bank is also a good place. Tax is a limiting profession and it will be hard for you to practice what you’ve learned here outside the country due to difference in tax laws. Except you are fortunate to be in the transfer pricing department as that is a new field with limited professionals. Whatever one you decide on, think long term and mobility in the job market and that should be what should drive your decision. What if I can get into audit? I can lobby to get audit. I hear people switch.... |
