If it's a large investment banking firm, please go for it , otherwise go for the big4.

Investment banking will likely give you better opportunities when compared to tax....also tax is jurisdictional in nature so if you leave the shores the country, it may be a little restricted as tax codes differ across countries. There are a few tax roles with the big4 that are global but the number is limited.

Nice, it seems you are In the field. My plan is to switch to audit when I’m in.

Also the area of tax is too restrictive ( managed services - entails tax compliance, immigration tax services, payroll services. Dunno if they do transfer pricing)

My intention is to put a little pressure for them to put me in audit. That way I have better exit options.

Or better still go to another big four firm (audit).

I want something that offers better opportunities going forward and it seems audit is best for that.

If I were you, I'd choose investment banking.

You'll get bored with the dull, repetitive work in tax at a Big 4. And, your exit options are just too damn limited.

Even audit has better exit options.

Investment banking is where the money, the learning, and the intellectual challenges are!

Don't do some rote regulatory work. You add little value to society...

I think if I get into tax, I can negotiate to be transferred to audit. How about that

Go into Tax. It's an interesting field with lots of things to learn on daily basis. Knowing how it works is a skill that is important to have.

I have been into taxation from a consulting, tech, and regulatory point and I can tell you that the opportunities are limitless.

Most people who do tax work in IRS of different states but it's not even the right place to work with the knowledge of taxation. Work with tech companies that are into taxation.

Like someone rightly mentioned Ur longterm ambition is the major determinant.

In terms of long term opportunities, there are endless opportunities for both professions so access urself and determine what u really want to do.

Does third place even exist. Every 4 yrs it’s only the winner that’s recognized and maybe the runner up. Third place is almost non existent

Big 4s always look good on the CV, they train well and give you better prospects. I know someone who went from EY to pwc and they are still rushing him. If it were me, I would start off with a Big 4.

Okay so I came across your topic after doing a Google search on the topic.

I was scammed of about N25,000 from a vendor on Instagram who claims they sell hand made shoes. I paid the total money for the shoe and the transport cost and since then the guy stopped replying messages nor picking his calls. I intend to follow this your steps above to see if I can recover my funds from this scammer. I will post my progress here too as I go on.
