O yeah, even your brother-in-law can sponsor you with his own life savings to travel to travel to the UK for your own vacation?

yes, a brother in-law can sponsor him/her... Mine has in the near past, so why not someone else? Maybe not with his entire life's savings, but if he has a generous amount, why not?

VisaOfficer: By the way, if you want to see something both hilarious and frightening, check out http://immigrationroad.com/green-card/immigration-flowchart-roadmap-to-green-card.pdf . It's a flowchart of ways to qualify for Legal Permanent Resident status and it makes my head hurt just trying to follow all the lines.

wow, that is some map, VO!!! i only glanced at the top and lost touch... grin grin grin grin

How long would it take if an LPR filed for their parents? I see you mentioned that it takes 12 years for siblings... that is a long time, and I understand that once a petition is put in place, the beneficiary cannot get a B1/B2 visa if they apply within the period - since the DS160 form asks if anyone has filed a petition for the applicant...and automatically gets denied a visa... Is this the case?

one more thing, do the UK Embassy and US Embassy have a shared database? to compare notes for applicants? smiley

Thank you. You are Godsent

Hi VisaOfficer,

I have some quick questions smiley regarding a 'virgin' passport that has previously been denied a visiting visa. It is virgin because it contains no visas, but has a UK denial stamp, and the US has denied too.

1) What are considered a change in circumstance? Could this be a promotion at work, and a salary increase?
2) Is having a relative really a negative stance on an application?
3) Do Visa Officers call relative to confirm at all to at least know the real intentions of the applicants?
4) Do Visa Officers call employers of applicant to confirm the status?
5) If this applicant got a different country's visa on his passport without actually using it, would it help?

I wish they would ask more questions on the DS-160, and not deny depending on moods... undecided undecided really..

Thank you so much in advance.. smiley smiley smiley smiley

Submitted on the 12th, picked it up on 31st!

Hi Uchechukwu, was your application processed in Lagos or Abuja? it seems references that start with IKAC are applications dealt with in Lagos, and IKAB Abuja.. Not sure about this though.

Just wondering where they are more considerate.

Vicjustice, Londoncool, Justwise

I advised the applicant ( an undergraduate student from a nigerian university) to say 'no savings' as there isn't much in the account anyway and we do not want that to be a focus for the ECO.

They are on holiday until September ending so he wants to visit for 3 weeks.

His sibling who is inviting him to the UK for a Family Visit is fully sponsoring his trip and visit. Relevant documents (Invitation letter, Financial support letter, Sponsorship Declaration, British passport bio-data, birth certificate, mortgage details, Employment details, Tax Clearance, Payslips, Bank Statements, Utility Bills and Pictures with both of them) from the sponsor.

Thanks
The applicant has his Student status letter, Admission Letter, Tuition fees and dues so far, Accommodation fees so far, Examination records so far; Holiday Itinerary, Email Conversations, Flight Booking Confirmation. Birth Certificate too

What are the chances here? Him saying no savings.. smiley smiley

Hello Vicjustice and Justwise and other experienced forumers,

Can you advise on a visiting visa application? My cousin is an undergraduate student and wants to apply to visit his brother in Newcastle for 2 weeks. His brother is sponsoring his entire visit. Now, is it wise to answer no to 'do you have any savings'? he does but it is not a lot (only about 30, 000), and he does not want this to count against him. Or can he just say no? Are students expected to submit bank statements even though they are being fully sponsored?

What are his chances as his parents are retired and this brother supports him from the UK?

What strong ties can a student show apart from sponsor's documents - invite, bank statements, utility bills, payslips, pictures, passport page (british), birth cert; his school documents (letter from school, admission letter, receipts, etc), birth cert, passport?

Thank you

Thanks for your answer, Tzetzefly.

I am actually planning to attend a conference, and will add a few extra days to do some shopping, or is that frowned upon?

I will put engaged, but this means i have to show pictures, right?

Isn't a job promotion and increase in salary a change in circumstances? I work in one of the media relations firms. Not known like big companies though.

Thank you for clearing that up, Tzetzefly.. Can you advise on the questions and ignore my mistake on the visa class.. Thanks a lot.

tzetzefly:

The category of visa you should be applying for is B1 and not B2 since you are going for a conference. For the avoidance of doubt, these are itemised for your perusal :

1. Tourism and Visit Visa (B-2) :

* Tourism

* Vacation (holiday) visit with friends or relatives

* Medical treatment

* Participation in social events hosted by fraternal, social, or service organizations

* Participation by amateurs in musical, sports, or similar events or contests, if not being paid for participating

* Enrollment in a short recreational course of study, not for credit toward a degree (for example, a two- day cooking class while on vacation).

2. Business Visa (B-1):

* Consult with business associates

* Attend a scientific, educational, professional, or business convention or conference

* Settle an estate

* Negotiate a contract

Greetings Guru, and well wishers.

I a looking to apply for a us b2 visa, and have a few questions. Looking from the thread, applying to attend a conference seems to be an easier mode.

1. Can conference visas be subsequently used for regular visits/shopping trips? assuming one gets 2 years?

2. I am applying on a virgin passport (no travel history), but with a previous us refusal on an attempt to visit a relative some 5 months ago.

3. For marital status, can i choose 'other' and type in 'have a serious boyfriend or engaged'?

4. I know paid conferences are better, but can hotel accommodations just be reserved? just incase.... grin

I am looking to apply in a few months as my circumstances have changed since the last time I first applied - I have been promoted at my place of work and receive a higher salary now. I also got a car which I would term property cheesy

What are my chances?

Thank you in advance.
