sawyer89: If you are doubting the OP,i'll advise you go check his name in the Mathematics department graduating list pasted at the rear wing of Unilorin auditorium.He is the first on the list and the only first class student with a matriculation number starting with '09'(his year of entry into the school)!
Come on guys,there are a lot of people with rough beginnings; who overcame their failure and became the best in their field through hardwork and discipline! OP is a good example.
Never look down on people,be nice to everyone that come your way.Most importantly,don't be too quick to condemn; but never stop seeking for the truth!
@OP..Only FEW people can help you on this forum.What most members do is to condemn and find faults! I'll advise you check out T22 at "Total Oil and gas workers" thread. The guy is the most intelligent and yet humble person i have ever met online!

Trac: Yes you can! You will have to apply the way you understand analytically to the fields you want to specialise in. It would not be "out-of-the-box" straight fit-in, so to tackle this problem, you will have to take some professional certifications and then improve on it with your intellect achieved from your BSc. For instance, I will be helping a friend of mine with a Math degree to transition into the Oil & Gas sector in a few months. In my friends case, starting up will be as a designer and time goes by, when the rudiments have been understood and mastered, an engineering position can be applied for. This is after certain certifications have been taken and the appropriate professional experience has been acquired and credibility earned.

The telecommunication industry is a lot easier, though there will be a lot to get acquainted with as you rise. The Oil & Gas industry is very liberal about their trainings than any other industry I know. You will learn on the job too as you work your way up.

I don't know how people reflect on degrees in terms of certain job descriptions in the region you live in. An employee referral will do you much help.

For your information, there are a lot of chaps who went to top schools abroad, and are back in Nigeria. Working in MNCs, running their own business, some are even into art, fashion, and writing/blogging. And they make a reasonably OK living. Returning to Naija has not killed them ke.

Sure, Nigeria is not the West, not by a long shot. But there's a pervading mentality among Nigerian youth; they must go abroad, ostensibly to get a degree because 'the nation has failed them', or 'Nigerian education is useless'. What if i told you a friend of mine, who is a VP in a very big bank in Nigeria, is by birth an American citizen, and yet has never gone there to study or work? You would say it's a lie, or there is something wrong with the guy. But I shyt you not, the guy schooled in Nigeria, made a good grade, and even did his masters here. He's a pali-carrying American citizen.

The financial controller of Nigeria LNG is a chap with a first in accounting, a masters in finance from Unilag, and he was 2nd overall in the nation in his ICAN finals. He's one of the top five people in NLNG. Which abroad you wan use shakara that kind of person? He doesn't have any foreign degree, and he has been posted all over Europe and some parts of Asia to work.

If this guy truly has a first class in mathematics, I will march him over to Accenture myself. In fact, he should contact me. But if he does have a first class in math, and is in Nigeria, he won't even need me. Abroad? He will travel to America tire, even with his ordinary Bsc.

More likely he is taking the piss with respectable Nairaland folk, like so many other joker youth, which is why I dey vex for this section nowadays. You see posts like ' I want to work in oil and gas company, please help me!' I am beginning to wonder if any of these people are even in any university in Nigeria, with their terrible grammar.

I just grad dis year. the reason why dey dnt colloect fresh result is because dey normally do the last screening in 300level for a 4yrs course and they will require certificate be it waec or whatever o level u use which might not be ready as at the time.

shilling: My major is Economics. I'm very good at all my other courses even Statistics. But, Math is usually 50-60% (I sometimes fail my tests). What's wrong with me? It's been like this since high school. I was thinking of going to see our Pastor for deliverance but I think he'll just laugh it off and tell me to study.
