Politics / Another Bad Headline For Malaysia Airlines—plane Goes Wrong Way by lamzybaby: 2:04pm On Dec 28, 2015
Malaysia Airlines made yet another unfortunate headline on Christmas Eve when a flight taking off from Auckland, New Zealand to Kuala Lumpur flew in the wrong direction because air traffic control was given the wrong flight plan.

The New Zealand Herald reported the pilot of flight MH132 questioned the route the A330 was told to take.

Malaysia Airlines confirmed in a statement that there was a problem with the flight plan.

“On December 24th 2015 our flight MH132 from Auckland to Kuala Lumpur was given the latest flight plan by the airline’s Operations Dispatch Centre (ODC) whilst Auckland’s Air Traffic Control (ATC) was inadvertently given an earlier flight plan. Both routes were following an approved flight path and the aircraft had enough fuel for both routes. The safety of both passengers and crew were never compromised at any time. Malaysia Airlines is currently conducting its investigation in the flight plan submission.”

Politics / Dasukigate: Ahmadu Ali, Ayu, Others In Efcc Dragnet by lamzybaby: 4:36am On Dec 28, 2015
*Haliru, son to be docked tomorrow'
‘*We rejected $3m spiritual fund from Dasuki’

Director General of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, PDP-PCO, Dr. Ahmadu Ali, is in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC dragnet, and will be quizzed for his alleged involvement in the $2.1billion arms deal saga any moment from now.
Sources at the anti-graft agency told Nigerian Pilot that the commission has already concluded plans to officially send a letter of invitation to the embattled PDP king pin early this January for interactions in connection with his role in the ongoing arms deal probe.
Others to be interrogated alongside the former PDP national chairman are former ministers of defence, Senator Musliu Obanikoro, Olusola Obada and former senate president, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.
Ayu is said to have collected a whopping N345million from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, as fee for security consultancy.
Already, the EFCC has filed charges against a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Haliru Mohammed Bello, and his son, Abbah, for allegedly collecting N600 million from the embattled former NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki and principal officers and fund managers of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, PCO.
The purpose of collecting the huge sum was not stated but the EFCC alleged the money might have been diverted from the public treasury for political purposes.
The anti-graft agency has approached an Abuja Federal judge to file charges against the father and son.
Nigerian Pilot further gathered that the two men are likely to be docked tomorrow.
Abbah Mohammed is alleged to have received N600million from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, in the name of Bam Properties but the reason for the transfer of the money to the company was not disclosed.
The EFCC has already arrested and arraigned many top officials and companies related to the previous administration for receiving large payments from the ONSA from the funds set aside for the procurement of arms to tackle Boko Haram.
The former NSA himself was charged along with many senior administration officials and PDP bigwigs for benefitting from the alleged loot.
Many of them have however been released on bail while others are yet to fulfil their bail conditions.
The source further added that many PDP bigwigs will be picked in connection with the ongoing arms deal probe.
Efforts by our correspondent to reach ‎the spokesman of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren proved abortive as his phones were switched off.

Nairaland / General / Fun Returns To National Theatre After Invasion By Hoodlums by lamzybaby: 7:24pm On Dec 26, 2015
Some fun seekers thronged the National National Theatre for Boxing Day fun in Lagos on Saturday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalls that some hoodlums punctured the carnival-like atmosphere when they invaded the premises and dispossessed fun seekers of their valuables on Christmas day.

Policemen at the theatre later apprehended some suspected hoodlums at about 6.p.m., when the premises had been completely deserted by scared fun seekers.

NAN reports that the theatre was once again a beehive of activities on Saturday, as fun seekers thronged the premises.

Many families were seen sitting on the lawns, eating and taking photographs, while others were seen trying to get tickets to watch movies.

The whole atmosphere was filled with music blaring from loud speakers and fun seekers danced to different tunes.

Some children were seen enjoying horse rides while others were seen basking and stomping on inflatable playthings.

The venue bustled with activities as kiosk owners made brisk businesses selling beverages and peppered soups.

Mr Adewale Rasaq, a fun seeker, told NAN it was a ritual for him and his family members to visit the theatre on boxing days.

``I love the atmosphere. I enjoy the peace of the environment. I am catching my fun, I think I love everything here’’, he said.

Rasaq said he learnt of the invasion by hoodlums on Friday, but said he knew the situation would have been brought under control by the time he would be visiting.

Another fun seeker, Mrs Mulikat Adesokan said the theatre was an escape place from all the hustling and bustling of the city and that a visit to the place was always worth it.

She, however, urged the government to increase police presence around the theatre, saying activities of criminals were becoming a problem to the tourist centre.

``Those hoodlums are trying to spoil this place with their criminal activities. The government should try and increase police presence in this area’’, she said.

Hamzat Yusuf, a horse owner, said he had made a good amount of money taking children on horse rides and allowing his horse to take photographs with visitors.

He, however, said business was better last year, blaming the problem on the downturn in the economy.

``I charge N200 per horse ride and if you want to take a photograph with my horse, I charge N100. Business has been good, but last year was better. I think it is because of the problem in the economy’’, he said.

Tomi Abiodun, one of the children who patronised Yusuf, said it was the first time he would see a live horse.

He said he had fun riding a stallion and playing with other children and that he would ask his parents to bring him to the theatre in 2016.

Politics / Fayose: Lai Mohammed Should Relocate To Sambisa In Borno State by lamzybaby: 2:41pm On Dec 26, 2015
Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, has called on Nigerians to “pray specially for President Mohammadu Buhari”, saying the president needs God to give him the necessary wisdom to be able to find solution to the country’s economic and security problems. He also challenged Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture, to relocate to Sambisa in Borno state, or Yobe, and move around there without heavy military security if indeed he was sure that Boko Haram had been defeated.

Speaking through Lere Olayinka, his special assistant on public communications and new media, Fayose said: “Only God’s intervention can save Nigeria from the present economic and security problems, as it is glaring that the man running the affairs of the country at the federal level does not have any answer to the problems. “Even the Holy Bible said in James 1:5 that if anyone lacks wisdom, he should ask God and as it is, Nigerians must assist the president in asking for wisdom and understanding to tackle the country’s economic and security problems before Nigeria is further plunged into more woes with the federal government’s decision to borrow N2.2 Trillion, which translates to N6.066 billion per day, to finance the 2016 Budget.”

He described the federal government’s planned reduction of petrol pump price from N87 to N85 per litre as a continuation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government’s governance by deceit, saying: “Even secondary school students of economics know that you cannot deregulate and regulate at the same time. “It is only in a confused and clueless economy that government will plan to spend more when revenue has reduced by more than 50 percent. “I maintain that petrol will not sell below N100 per litre in 2016. Even now that the price is N87 and subsidy is yet to be removed, Nigerians are buying at between N130 and N300 per litre. What will now happen when they remove subsidy and allow market forces to determine the price?”

The governor described as strange, Mohammed’s claim that Boko Haram had been defeated. “Nigerians will “Nigerians will only take the minister serious if he relocates to either Sambisa in Borno state, or Yobe state, and stay there till the end of March, next year without heavy military security,” he said.

“To show their level of confusion, two days after the minister of information declared that Boko Haram had been defeated, President Buhari said the government would persuade Boko Haram to abandon their fight. One then wonders how the same Boko Haram insurgents Lai Mohammed said were already defeated will have to be persuaded to abandon their fight. “Interestingly, the same Boko Haram that Lai Mohammed said had been defeated reported attacked Kimba village in Gur ward of Biu Local Government Area of Borno State yesterday night.

“Therefore, the Information Minister must show Nigerians how peaceful Borno and Yobe States have become after the defeat of Boko Haram by relocating to either Sambisa, Maiduguri or Yobe.”

Family / Revealed : Poor Men Die Sooner 'due To Low Testosterone by lamzybaby: 6:18am On Dec 26, 2015
The link between wealth and health in Britain is well established, with the richest of us living up to eight years longer than the poorest.

Now scientists have announced a possible reason — and it all comes down to our hormones.

Researchers found that men from poor and uneducated backgrounds have lower levels of testosterone than their well-off counterparts.

The study at University College London showed that those with the lowest household income — defined as less than £6,000 a year — had 10 per cent lower testosterone levels than men earning £30,000 or more.

Low testosterone has been linked to depression, osteoporosis, weight gain and loss of muscle.

The study of 1,880 British men and women also revealed that women whose parents were unskilled workers have testosterone levels 15 per cent higher than women whose parents had professional jobs.

That leaves them more at risk of early puberty, infertility and polycystic ovaries.

The respondents expressed their views in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday while assessing the performance of the government so far.
Mr Sule Aliu, a Civil Servant, said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s actions in the last seven months, indicated that he was serious about rebuilding Nigeria.

``My evaluation of the Buhari government is positive; the change mantra of the administration has really manifested and the future looks bright.

``Government appears to be serious about returning Nigeria to its past glory by eradicating poverty and fighting corruption, and that is commendable.

``I can only advise that the government expedite action in solving the perennial fuel scarcity, and to improve on the wages of civil servants.

Sports / Emenalo Reveals Why Chelsea Sacked Mourinho by lamzybaby: 5:30pm On Dec 22, 2015
Chelsea technical director, Michael Emenalo has disclosed the truth about the dismissal of team coach, Jose Mourinho.

The Nigerian ex-international lamented that the club are in a difficult situation and the decision had to be reached in the interest of the London clubHe said: “It was a decision taken to protect the interest of the club. He has done a lot for the club, the fact of the matter remains that Chelsea is in trouble, the results are not good. There obviously seems to be a palpable discord between the players and the manager. We feel it was time to act.”

“The owner is forced to make a very tough decision for the good of the club, we make no mistakes about it, Chelsea one of the best and biggest team in the world is a point above relegation in the EPL and that is not good enough.

“Anybody, fan, even those that have any affiliation with the club, can understand that the club is in trouble and something needed to be done.”

However, former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti believes lack of motivation among Chelsea players led to the team’s poor form before the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

Family / 4 Ways To Celebrate Christmas Within Your Budget by lamzybaby: 12:22pm On Dec 22, 2015
By Adeniyi Ogunfowope
It is a few days to Christmas and some Nigerians have made big plans just so they can have a great time during the holidays. In order to keep you from going overboard, Jovago.com, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal shares 4 ways you can have fun and still stay within your Christmas budget!
During the yuletide season, there is an often appreciable rise in the price of goods and services – whether perishable or consumer products. In the quest to have a rich experience, it easy to yield to pressure while trying to meet the expectations of friends and family. To keep yourself from going begging in the New Year, put a cap on what you can spend in view of your total income and you will be better off for it.
Prioritize your list
This is the stage where you take radical decisions on who you actually want to offer gifts. Cut down your cost by excluding close friends who will be just as happy to receive colourful Christmas cards at this time of the year. It can be quite difficult but as earlier mentioned, it is about tailoring your expenses to match the money in the bank.
Assign and roundup necessary preparations
After prioritizing your list, it is key to decide on the value of gifts each person will receive. Do a market survey on the internet before placing an order on the item. Your market survey should be thorough so that you can get the best and most affordable price in the market.

Make the budget work
Remember that life will continue after Christmas. If borrowing money makes you uncomfortable, consciously devote time each day to track your spending and see your budget through. It is possible to enjoy Christmas without racking up any debt, especially if you make the choice to live within your means. Having considered the outcome you expect, do all you can to make your budget work for you.
