Police in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh have rescued a young girl around 10 years old living with a troop of monkeys, health officials said Friday.

The girl was found living inside Katraniaghat forest area of Bahraich district, about 195 km northeast of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.

“The girl was rescued from jungle and brought to hospital here by policemen some two months back,” Dr. D K Singh, chief medical superintendent Bahraich district hospital told Xinhua.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FSRC) has re-affirmed its position of non-involvement in the marketing of speed limiting devices for vehicles in the country.

Spokesman of the agency, Mr Bisi Kazeem, told our reporter in Abuja on Friday that accredited vendors were in charge of sale and calibration of the device.

‘’There are accredited vendors screened by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and FRSC.

Prof. Abdalla Adamu, the Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has attributed high-level depression to addiction to social media platforms.

Adamu said this at the celebration of this year’s World Health Organisation (WHO) Day on Friday in Abuja.

The theme of event, organised by NOUN’s Faculty of Health Sciences in collaboration with the Nigerian Psychological Association, is “Let’s talk Depression’’.

The Managing Director, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr Saleh Dunoma, said rehabilitation of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, runway was 80 per cent completed.

Dunoma stated this while conducting the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, on an inspection of the project on Friday.

He said that the critical parts of the work, including asphalt-laying, airfield lighting installation and marking of the runway, were progressing.

He said that so far laying of glass grid had been 100 per cent completed, while asphalting was at 73 per cent and installation of lights at 40 per cent completion.

The FAAN boss added that the marking of the runway would commence on Monday.

Malam Barkindo Saidu, the Executive Secretary, Borno Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (BOSACA), says 3,800 new cases of HIV infections have been recorded in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the state.

Saidu told the Nigerian Pilot in Maiduguri on Wednesday that the new cases were recorded after voluntary screening in 15 IDPs camps in the state.

He said that currently 2.4 per cent of the population of the state or about 108,000 persons are living with HIV and AIDS, going by the demographic survey provided by the National Population Commission.

Senate president and Chairman of the National Assembly, Bukola Saraki has denied any rift between the legislative and executive arms of government.

Saraki made the denial via his Twitter handle on Monday.

In December 2016 the King of Morocco, His Royal Majesty Mohammed VI, paid a 2-day state visit to Nigeria. He was hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari, in Abuja. During the visit, the two leaders oversaw the signing of several agreements. One of these was conceived as Partnership between the Fertiliser Producers and Suppliers of Nigeria, FEPSAN and OCP, a state-owned Moroccan company and a world leader in phosphate and its derivatives, in which OCP would supply discounted phosphate to Nigeria, to help support the domestic blending of NPK Fertiliser starting in 2017.

Following the signing of that agreement, the stage was set for implementation. President Buhari formally approved the commencement of the Initiative shortly after the Moroccan visit, and announced it in his #Budget2017 Speech on December 14, 2016. A website designer, Baraka Terry, 29, was on Wednesday remanded at Keffi Prisons by a Mararaba Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a plasma television in a hotel.

Terry, residing at Gwagwalade in the FCT, is facing a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft.

The accused, however, denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.

Justice Simon Aboki of the State High Court sitting in Mararaba, Nasarawa State on Monday, March 20, 2017 convicted and sentenced one Hanna Abraham to 14years imprisonment on a 3-count charge of obtaining by false pretence and issuance of dud cheque to the tune of N7million preferred against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

A 40-year-old man, Yusuf Afolabi, has appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly failing to exorcise evil spirits tormenting one Emenaka Anayo.

Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi has directed that teachers who absented themselves from work for five times in a term should be sacked.

THERE are indications that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, may quiz three judges that were sacked by the National Judicial Council, NJC, found to have abused their offices by accepting gratifications from litigants before their courts.
