When I say some people try to help out God, I was mostly referring to Nairalanders and some peole have talked to, and my comment about Pastors "not knowing how to balance the word of God" with other appropriate portions of the Bible, I wasn't specifically referring to Papa Adeboye.

You know, many Christians try to help God out and its not necessary. Really, its not. Just stick to what the Bible says.
God sees everything. Anyone that tries to use anything in the Bible to justify himself or as a license to indiscretion or sinful acts will only have himself to blame. The problem is most Pastors don't know how to teach the word of God and balance it out with the appropriate other parts of the Bible.

The Bible's stand on alcohol is moderation. The "wine" of the Bible is definitely alcoholic. Its foolish for anyone to try to imply otherwise. The word "strong drink" in the Bible is used to used to differentiate other types of drinks which are much stronger in alcoholic content than wine. An example of this is vinegar. Interestingly, vinegar and wine are from the same source; the difference is vinegar is left to ferment for a much much longer period than wine, so much so the taste is completely different from wine. Its an equivalent of the whiskey and spirits of nowadays. Vinegar was past time of Roman Soldiers.

The point is this, the Bible stand on alcohol is moderation, but if you think you can use that as a license to do what you like, you will only have yourself to blame. Remember God can never be mocked. No man will be justified before God.

An underlying Philosophy of the Bible is balance. When different portions from the same Bible seem to contradicts one another, it is not so; what's happening is that the Bible trying to balance things out.

The affairs of the life and the application of Biblical wisdom to live it is a vast and complex thing, such that everything cannot be captured with "one drag of the net in the sea".

So you will also see verses in the Bible like "if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off, it's better to enter heaven with one hand than......", "if your eyes causes you to sin pluck it out, it's better to enter heaven blind than...."

So if wine causes you to sin, so its better you do without it. But they are people that can enjoy wine without it causing them to sin.

I for one prefer Red wine to all this juice, minerals, malt etc. A reasonable consumption of it (juice, coke etc) always give me subtle stomach troubles. When I do consume it well, then my stomach really starts turning. I try not to drink beer anymore because it causes so much controversy, so I now stick to red wine. Funny enough, it's alcoholic content is higher than that of beer.

Like I said, no man will be justified before God; if drunkenness becomes your past time and at the point of being refused into Heaven, you cite Bible passages where Jesus drank with sinners in the Bible, christians who drank wine without being engaged in drunkenness will come and testify against you; then Christians who had to make the sacrifice of completely cutting off wine in order NOT to engage in drunkenness will also come out and testify against you; just like Jesus said the people of Sodom and Gomorah, Queen of Sheba will come out and testify against the Jews who had the privilege of having Jesus in the flesh in the midst yet refused to take advantage of it.
