BusinessRe: An Open Informal Letter To Beaf On Fuel Subsidy by lanrefront1(m): 11:34am On Oct 11, 2011
You guys saying the subsidy should be removed because some few individuals are benefiting from it are narrow minded and cannot even exercise your brain and if asked you'll say you are brilliant young men.

Are you saying in order to stop a few hundreds of government people and their friends from enjoying the proceeds of a corrupt set-up, the whole masses should be thrown into unbearable sufferings? It's totally senseless. Do not be deceived, this not in the interest of the masses. The governors have been looking for ways to achieve this for a long time now, so they can have more money throw around for their private purposes.

Why can't vibrant Nigerian youths demand of their leaders, if they think subsidy is inimical to the economy of the nation, they should find a way to remove the subsidy while the price of fuel remains as it is.

I can already hear some people say that's not possible. You see that's why we will continue to suffer: because Nigerians are so silly to be believing the lies of a corrupt party whose only interest is to enrich themselves.

Ask yourself a simple basic question: why did the need for subsidy ever had to arise in the 1st place, afterall, we are the sixth largest producer of the petroleum on the planet. It is because goverment allowed all our refiniries to break down; probably, not even one is working; so hence the need to start importing finished products of crude oil from other countries, something we ought to be producing in our own backyard. It's was calculated deliberate act (which should now be addressed and corrected if this administeration is any different)

So what should responsible President, who is determined to improve the lot of his people, who has a clue on what leadership means, who has a mind of his own do. Of a truth I tell you, if Rochas Okorachas or even Buhari is the President, upon being sworn in, he would have immediately directed , and set the necessary machinery in motion, that within 9 months, all the refineries must start working. He would even go ahead to see how new ones can be built within 18 months.

Of a truth I tell you, even before the new ones are commissioned, once the old ones start working, there would no need for subsidy and no need to increase the price of fuel. Infact in a sincere government, the prices would gradually come down.

Why can't we demand this of our goverment. Why are we so determined to continue to suffer, helping our leaders to find excuses to continue to punish us.

OBJ spent many billions(cant remember the figures now, those who know it can chip in) for the so called turn-around-maintainance of the refineries yet the refineries are still comatose. I remember then watching a programme on TV (can't remember the channel now). Some Experts who were Nigerians based in the US authoritatively said, the amount spent so far on trying to repair the refineries is enough to build a set of new ones from the scratch.

Who has bewitched you people? Ask yourself, why is noone in goverment, including the committee of state governors who were shown on the news proffering all sorts of justifications for subsidy removal; why is not a single person talking about the option of setting a deadline for making the refineries work

[[An EFCC source said the

The constitution establishing EFFC seriously needs to be reviewed. In US, Britain and proper democracies all over the world, because fighting corruption is serious business, the institutions in charged with this duty does not need approval of the President before arresting and putting on trial any corrupt person. This issue has been brought up in the past but PDP goverments always circumvent their way around it. It the EFCC should not be tied to the apron's string's of the Presidency. As it is now, Jonathan can fire and hire and EFCC Chairman anytime if likes.

Just one question: when the President has grievous corruption charges to answer to, who approves the list?t

@ cap28,

Thanks jare for your post. Some people think knowing how to speak and write grammar equates to making sense.

We have a President whose mind can easily swayed, whose eyes can be easily covered with wool. A strong willed, focused President who is determined to better the lot of the people would have rejected this alternative from his advisers and ministers and demand of them to go and put on their thinking-cap and come up with another alternative.

Like cap28 said, is the goverment that is the only way to give the country the much needed infrastructural development.

@alj_harem, @lanre_front

Why is a simple English explanation so difficult for you to understand? Should I use Yoruba or Ibo?

I never said the government has put those thing in place. I simply said those things will need to be in place before subsidy can be removed. That means, I wasnt really on the government side. I was just stating facts. I also said you need to focus your energies in demanding that government put those things in place (at least to an acceptable level) before they can talk about removing subsidy.

Secondly, please stop echoing the silly labour and media ignorance. Subsidy does not benefit the poor. If you think it does, then you are truly being scammed. Subsidy benefits the importers. The problem with Nigeria is that most of us have this "government is a nanny" mentality. I have said time and time again, we do no need government handouts. We do not need government paying our bills. That is why I detest owanbe governors who always come out promising free this and free that. We dont need freebies. We need the right infrastructure in place so we can generate wealth. We are hard working and intelligent people. We need good roads, access to loans, regular power, security, etc not government handouts and stipends. Stop thinking in stipends. Stop this "government is a nanny" mentality.

SUBSIDY DOES NOT BENEFIT THE MASSES. IT ONLY BENEFITS THE IMPORTERS. What the so called masses think they gain in subsidy, they loose in hospitals, loans, roads, etc. I know some will quickly jump and say "but they will embezzle the money if government stop spending it on subsidy". That is a wrong argument. So somebody should be allowed to enrich himself just because we are afraid the government might embezzle it? Terrible stand to take, I think. Instead, we should now fight for accountability. For example, you can start a movement that will keep tabs on the money gained from the removal of subsidy and how it is spent and track it. This is how the people demand good governance. Well I guess nobody wants to do that because it is more convenient to critisize and talk crap. Stop critisizing and start acting. You have not done anything for Nigeria and you are accusing a politician. Why have you not stood up and taking a stand to help your country. Critics are the worst kind of people there are. Go back to your village and start there and make a difference. Posting crap in NL all day is a cowardly response to life's challenges. Act and make a difference. Talk is cheap. Forums are even cheaper!
Glaringly, you are the one having problem with English (this your wisdom-confidence na wa o). If your claim was not in support of government, then you sir have one of the worst communication skill in history.
Now to address your new issues. We know that Subsidy does not benefit the poor but the corrupt political elites and business men, all mostly linked to PDP.

We already said the subsidy itself is a fraud, that it's just a clever ploy to siphon the nation resources. @ Jeinsinmi post went to great lenght to break this down. There are many clever ploys like that. Na today.

They purposely refused to fix the refineries for this ploy to persist. We and the NLC know this and there really is little the masses can do about this. What concerns us is the price of fuel and how it affects our lives. So what we will not take is for the same corrup PDP goverment to now use the issue of a very fraudulent and questionable subsidy as an excuse for increasing the price of fuel and causing the masses unimaginable hardship.

We are expecting Jonathan to better the lives of masses. The ripple and multiplier effect will be so disastrous, anything the goverment does will be like a drop in the ocean.

Like a @alj harem rightly said: removal of subsidy = increase in infrastructure. Especially in a goverment where corruption is like fresh air.

Jonathan really is a disgrace. Why can't if see that, there is nothing unique in Nnkoji Iweala measures that is unique: devaluation of the naira, removal of any kind of subsidies etc. These are the same SAP and IMF measures which destroyed our economy during IBB's regime. Buhari fought them off but IBBimplemented them within months of taking power to the delight of the World Bretton Institutions. Madam Finance Minister mindset is totally WORLD BANK and history has proven most of their policies destroyed many African nations.
Oh God, why didn't you have pity on Nigeria and allow Buhari become President.

Mr. president, stop struggling to find a cure for your patient's ringworm while you ignore his leprosy.

Nigeria's problem is not subsidy or power etc, our problem is CORRUPTION, sure and simple. If any President will talke this will talke this holistically, withou fear, favour, selection, every other thing will fall into place.

Buhari understood this, even since the '80s and that was what if was coming to do.

We get the goverment we deserve. It pains my heart, act it seems Nigerians will still suffer long untill we learn how to support sincere leaders.

edicolove:
I carefully read every post on this thread and was hoping to find something intelligent but was not surprised by all the ignorant comments born of sentiments. Fuel subsidy is an anomaly that should never have been in the first place. It only enriches the fuel importers and improvishes the populace. The military started it as a convenient decoy for not fixing the oil sector and the refineries. In the long run, it doesnt benefit the so called masses. It has to go and will definitely go one day. How can a country that produces crude be paying N77 for every litre as subsidy? Absolute bunkers! That money is money for major major major infrastructural development.

What I was expecting people to comment on are the pillars that must be in place before subsidy can be removed, not that subsidy must not be removed.

1. There must be regular power supply. A major part of the fuel consumption in Naija is for generators for power. If power improves to an acceptable level, then a milestone would have been reached.
2. The refineries must be fixed and their capacity increased. This can then allow for competitive pricing. The N142 someone posted will only happen if we import the fuel. If our local refineries produce it, it wont be up to that amount.
3. Government must invest heavily in agriculture and other minerals. If agricultural development improves, the rise in food produce will counter the rise in food prices that would have occurred due to increase in transportation that might happen when subsidy is removed. For example, if price for a tuber of yam increases because of removal of subsidy, the price can be reduced by the increased production of yam.

These and some others points I might not have mentioned are the issues that must be raised and the things that must be in place before subsidy is removed. People keep talking about minimum wage and it makes me laugh. Reason? Simple. How many people in Naija really work for the government and collect the so called minimum wage? A very small percentage of Nigerians work for the government. Lagos state which has one of the biggest work force, doesnt even have up to 100, 000 workers. Even if you assume that as the average and multiply by 36 and add federal parastatals. you still wouldnt even get up to 5million people working for the government. So forget the minimum wage talk. What we need are standard government policies and accountability, not subsidy and government handouts. When are we going to stop this government handout mentality. This is the reason politicians can manipulate the system because most of you are still looking up to the government to collect stipends. We need infrastructure so we can generate our own income not government payouts.
blink182:
Edicolove, you just made my day. I wondered how long it will take me to explain typing with my phone but you took my thoughts and explained vividly.

If this government is able to implement just this one policy.
gentleoyink:
@edicolove, you have spoken well. May the gods be with you.
Actually he has spoken trash. There is nothing more pathetic when a person thinks he has great wisdom or reasoning, and they more or less are totally deficit/defunct of that quality.

Instead of going to far to defeat your faulty postulations, I'll simply pick on the actual things that you listed and your very own rationalisations.

You say everyone in disagreement to this increment is not intelligent, that that's not the issue, but the conditions that should be fufilled.

All these pre-conditions that you listed, how many of them are in place? And how many of them will be or can be in place tomorrow, by next year, or even in three years time?
Did the goverment say they want to remove subsidy in 2 or 3 years time or after these conditions have been met? No, they want to do it Jan 1st, about 2 months from now, if we count out october. See your life? See how mo.ro.nic your arguement is.

A labour leader was on Silverbread morning show on Friday I believe, and he said since OBJ and PDP came to power in 1999, there have been 12 great speeches in which this very things were always promised: revamping of the refiniries, power sector and giving agriculture utmost priority. Please go and sit down for toilet if u have nothing else to say.

And have u not heard, that even the claim of subsidy by goverment is fraudulent, that there is no subsidy.

Let me make a simple easy to understand illustration. The International price of crude oil is what affects the price of the imported fuel, therefore determining the amount of subsidy needed. Now let's assume the price moves from $10 to $50; now this same upward movement that has increased the cost of imported fuel will also increase the earnings on every single barrel of crude oil that Nigeria exports, and we export more barrels of crude oil than the fuel we import. So why direct our attention to only the increase in cost of imported fuel and not the accompanying many-times-more increase in earnings resulting from the same stimulus. So it's a matter of using a fraction of this increased earnings to pay for the subsidy.

Yes, I know in Macro Economic, revenue, and things like cost of subsidy are calculated separately, but spare all that bullshit. Macro economics exist to better humanity and not for the sake of UN and World Bank seminars and papers. The reality is just what I've said.
By the way, OBJ spent 12 billion naira o power and and equally stupendous amount on refiniries. Where are the results?

Women all over the world say that and many other unprintable stuff in the throes of hot s/e/x. I have observed some North American women say 'Oh Jesus' or 'Oh God' even if they are not Christian, or not religious; some will also say "phuck me." I have heard a Mexican say "Ay Papi" and a French woman say "Oui, c'est bon" while being r/a/p/e/d. you have to realize that some of these things can be very individual, what she said in the throes of her escapade is not pertinent to proving r/a/p/e here. It is inconsequential, especially if she has said such things in the past while having consensual s3x.

Also, action speaks louder than voice. Talk is cheap. Anyone can say anything, the fact is she did not make any attempt to resist those guys.

@M.or.onic Prince K12,

It never cease to amaze me the number of people who truly believe that they are very wise and intellectual and have high deductive reasoning, meanwhile, they are nothing but i.d.io.ts, m.o, r.ons.  You sir, with all due respect are a classic example of this.

They are several s.tup.id-ities that you profess, but because I really don't have the time to waste on you, I'll only take one.

[[Nowhere in the video is there
clear evidence that she was
forcibly held down while the
intimate encounter happened.]]

Exactly what were you expecting to see, that will prove that she was not forcibly held down? Were you expecting to see chains, handcuffs and ropes? Is the glaring fact: a girl, n.,ak.ed, surrounded by five boys in a room not enough force? What could she do, only her among 5 boys? Don't even tell me she did not shout. If she shouted, they would have simply closed her mouth and beat the hell out of her.
So it amazes me when you imply: where is the element of force, when someone with even a quarter of brain can see this merely by interpreting the scene in the room.
What of a man who calmly watched, doing nothing, while his wife is being violated by robbers. So if this was taped, and we see the man sitting by himself doing nothing, that means he consented. Even the wife may not put up a struggle of fear that her husband may be killed, especially if they have threatened to do this.

Anyone with sense can see that the girl came to see one of them, and than "one" set her up for this.

By the way, your speculation that many women like being slept with by five men at the same time is total bullshit. In every thousand women, less than ten will love being slept with by two men at the same time, not to talk of five. You sir, are a real rare kind of m.or.on. Incase you don't have the brain to work out the percentage, I implore a lady to please help him do the maths.

Like one poster said, it's amazing that you see this as just one trivial issue. That alone should tell anyone that you could easily also be a participant in what those boys did, if the opportunity presents itself.

Instead of hiding behind a the anonymity of Nairaland, why not try and make this same kind of persistent arguement, on this very issue with your mum or elder sister on a dinning -table and see if they would not throw the food into your face or leave the table in disgust and unbelief that you are actually of the same blood with them.
I pass the rest over to you ladies, please answer his next sense.less replies which I know are coming.

Once the Bank itself involves the police, you can be sure that this guy is already in big trouble.
PhonesRe: Just Been Scammed Here by lanrefront1(m): 12:23pm On Oct 05, 2011
There is no doubt about it. It's the guy. Those are his pictures and real name. He's trying to use reverse phycology to make people think d information is wrong.

If the moderators on Nairaland are still of any use, they should put a thread called, "Particulars and Pictures of Scamer of Nairaland. Do you have any information on him?" it should remain on the front page for weeks. I bet you there is no way people who know him will see this. At the trem least he will be utterly disgraced because the news will spread.

Then on the other hand, poster, the way you approach the bank matters. Dress very well, in possible go with another much older person. Don't see anyone at the lobby. Request that you need to see the manager over an urgent matter. Go with a laptop. Be prepared to wait and budge no matter anyone tells. Tell them u need to see him.

When you get his audience, dont present the matter as your own problem, present as Bank's problem.

Here is how you start: ask the manager "If there was somebody defrauding people and using his account with the bank to carry out the activities, is this of a concern to the bank?" Of course the answer will be positive. Proceed to tell this guy has been swineling people through the biggest Nigeria social networking site. Proceed to show him everything on Nairaland which concerns this matter, including this thread in which his particulars and pictures were exposed. Also the facebook account. His number and textmessages communication. Any normal manager will ask his staff to check all this information and there will find then to be accurate.

From there, see what happens. Imply strongly to them this guy hq still trying to dupe other through the bank's name and account, thereby giving the bank a bad name, making the people on forum to be making comments such as, the bank for a person who is a fraudster; that the bank don't care what you do as long as you bring in money.

If you play this just right, I bet you the Bank will inform the police. The key is this: downplay the importance of whether you get your money back or not. Tell the manager that as responsible citizen, you want to make sure noone else falls victim to this guy.
Once the Bank itself involves the police, you can be sure that this guy is already in big trouble.

Personally, I don't think the school should deny young muslims admission based on religion, but the school should insist that every student must convert to christianity in order to graduate. Afterall, there is no need graduating potential bomb carrying students who would soil the school's name.

Actually it's not Sonyericsson. Sony may be one of the best manufacturers of cameras, but when it comes to camera phones and optics, Nokia is King. From 2007, tie best camera phones have been N82, N86 and now N8 is the undisputed best camera phone in tie world. Infact, it's optics, sensor size and picture and video quality beats most handheld cameras, even cybershots. To get standalone cameras that can compete with the N8 specs, you have ve enter into the 300 dollar range.

Oh, yes. Make a research, like they say, google is your friend. Wikipedia too.

But since the guy wanted BB, i've got no choice than to introduce him to the exact one im using presently. But i must tell you, SONY ERICSON is the best when it comes to picture taking. Trust me wink

Alorauk:
Am using both the Blackberry Bold 9900 and Blackberry Bold 9930, in all honesty, Blackberry Bold 9930 is the best among all the blackberry models.
If you don't believe me, try and buy the two and then compare them, ( if only you can afford it)
What a very funny statement. Even if he can afford it, you mean he should get up, leave home, go to the stores and buy two very expensive phones just for the sake of comparison. Even those running tie popular phone websites don't buy the phones.

Why not advise the guy to go and check out and compare both on net.

Im using 9850 TORCH and the camera is madtttttttt and too clear, i just pray you cld afford it grin
Most people that use blackberry phones have never used a top notch nokia or samsung phone, that's why they will think a blackberry camera is extra-ordinary. It's okay. That's it. Nothing more.

People don't even knows that their emails can enter automatically on nokia, htc, and Samsung smartphones, just like it does on blackberry. The only different thing about blackberry is Pinging.
PhonesRe: Which Model Of Blackberry Has The Best Camera Quality? by lanrefront1(m): 4:01pm On Sep 29, 2011
All those phones top blackberry phones guys are mentioning are like 70 or 80something thousand.

My first question is: is it essential that the phone must be a blackberry. If pinging is not really that important for you, but what you need really is a phone with a good camera, maybe you should consider other phones. The truth is, when it comes to camera and multimedia capabilites, blackberry phones are one of tie weakest. A phones like nokia 8 (king among them) or E72, E6 or E7 will do a much better job for u in this department.

And maybe you already have a blackberry and not satisfied with tie camera; just get any of this old Nokia S60 phones 5mp phone. Any of them take better than most blackberry phones. The old Nokia N82, 5mp with the strongest Xenon flash which is now so cheap will take better pictures than even the most expensive blackberry, especially for taking inside shots of sites where the light may be low.

But if it must really be a blackberry and no other, then I guess u really have to get tie most expensive ones.

Generally, nowadays, no matter what phone you hold, even if it's samsung galaxy SII, girls believe a blackberry phone is more expensive or a better phone. Infact I no just undertand the craze of girls with blackberry in this times.

actually I'm very much aware of those makeup stuff, and also the professional touch worldclass photographers must have added. But still considering how good her skin & body looks, at least 3/4 of what we see must be 4 real after minus-ing all the embellishments and cover-ups.

Concerning Nigerian female artiste, I don't completely agree with you. They may have good skin but most of them are out of shape FOR AN ARTISTE. Is kel, Sasha, Essence etc.

90% of those that still have that shape have it because they are still relatively very young, like between 18 to 25.

You have good points, I cant think of a Nigerian female artiste that will look this good in this kind of photoshoot, even if they have the nerve to do it. Meanwhile there are countless American female artiste bodies like this in several magazines. No doubt the weather and other conditions help. There are somethingp that can only be perfected from a young age when there not even stars or have money.

Gosh, typed this much already. Hoped i made some sense?

Ah, lest i forget, Tiwa Savage is an exception to all have said above. Apart from beautiful, she looks so cute, sort of like a kitten, she has this kind of vulnerable innocent eye (I'm sure she's not) that will make men want to do things for her.

You have admit she's just not a pretty face, but truly an all round beauty. Totaly spotless and glowing skin from head to toe. Can't even spot one blemish; then the skin tone and colour is consistent in every nook & corner, even on the knees and ankles. Money good o. Nevertheless, it also takes discipline to remain uhh hot. I need a wifey like this.

Men, this yankee artiste sure know how to take care of themselves.

How many of our female artiste can take a photoshoot even with micro mini jeans and a well breast-covering strap on. No way, too big belly and fat laps.

Alright o, let up join hands together and support him. That was how we supported OBJ'S PDP Administration for 8 years and huey could not even give up stable light and get the refineries working.

For those who like truth, Jonathan maybe a good person, the ultimate truth is this: a PDP led goverment will never take us to the promised land. ANY PDP PRESIDENT IS EASILY THE MOST COMPROMISED PRESIDENT IN THE WORLD.

Is about the party, not the man. Nigerians, continue to vote for PDP the masses sufferings will not come to an end. It,s not a curse. You cant get oranges out of bush-thorn seeds.
