THIS IS WHAT I BLEIVED HAPPENED. The powers that be were very angry with Farouk Lawan for his role in the whole subsidy saga, I'm sure the demand or acceptance of the bribe was not originaly his idea. Someone (not Otedola himself) must first have been sent to approach him. The person acting for the Zenon oil magnate must have discretely informed Lawan that Otedola his ready to pay him a stupendous amount if he can use his influence to take to off Otedola's company of the list of the companies that were indicted in the probe report. They would have watched and waited for Lawan's next move. Once they saw Lawan was ready to play ball, he would have been told how to contact Otedola; by then the main plan to implicta him swings into action. The SS would have been contacted by Otedola and informed that Lawan is trying to blackmail him into giving a bribe. It was at that stage the recordings of telephone converstaions and their three meetings will ensue.(Remember the papers said they met at Otedola's house and negotiated the amount over lunch) Since Otedola he's aware that their meetings and conversations are being recorded, he would have steered the conversations in such a manner that will make him appaear helpless before Farouk who is shaking him down for a bribe. This impression would be easily more established, even by Lawan who no doubt will be trying to play hardball with the multibillionaire oil magnate by trying to extort and benefit as much as possible from the shady deal. The Yorubas have an adage: "if we decide we have to eat a frog, then it's better we eat one with egg". Lawan was given bait; he bit on the bait, swallowed it hook and sinker. He has noone to blame but himself for being so foolish. And maybe ordinarily he is not a foolish man, but God made him, foolish because He wanted to disgrace him. Lawan was implicted so easily: like a sheep (not the Biblical sheep) he was led to the slaughter. Like BALLABRIGGS wisely said on this thread, in a fine condensed slogan which shows the way forward, "if Lawan is guilty, jail and let's move to the next chapter: Who stole the subsidy funds?" |
I bet if Jonathan and his group of freinds has not defrauded our economy a minimum of 2.7 trillion naira (that the one we know of), the Finance Mimister will not need to be forecasting a recession. |
If you ask me, I would rate Rochas ven higher than Fashola. I'm not making this ratiing based on the amount of projects executed: like someone rightly pointed out, Rochas is just one year in office while Fashola his on his second term. If you investigate Rochas, even going like 10 - 15 years backwards, you will discover he has a very large heart; larger than any political office holder I know. And this where is problem or weakness or inadequacy stems from: because his heart wants to so much good for his people, he over-reaches himself i.e. he promises and tries to do more than what the state resources can cater for. If anyone has acess to Rochas his advisers, they should tell there is need for a balance, and he needs advisers that will help him achieve that balance. Too much of anything is bad. Trying to make everything free is not necessarily the best way to do good for your people. Also his principal officers are the ones who would help him achieve his lofty goals. While he must not give room for corruption, he should not deny them privileges and comforts that comes with their office in his ethusiasm to impress Imolites that he has good intentions. For instance promising Imolites N20,000 above the minimum wage of N18,000 was unecessary. Instead of making secondary school entirely free, with even promises to pay for school uniforms, the school fees could have been reduced to a very affordable minimum, while the very poor will be taken care of by abundance of scholarships. This will enable the goverment to really beef up the qualitative aspect of the schools. Primary education on the end can entirely be free. Good governance which benefits the people is a diificult thing once the ruler has good intentions. Rochas he's such a man, but to his good intentions, he needs to add wisedom. Then, pls people, I think Fashola he's overrated. He's doing some good but at the same time stealing the state blind in collaboration with his godfather Tinubu. The Epe Toll Gate where money will be collected for their company for 30 years is a classic example of this. Fashola is only improving roads and infrastructure in section of Lagos while the other sections are completely neglected. Eko-Ile, pls just pass by and don't bother commenting. We all know that you are Fashola's plant and PR on this forum, so your rebuttals holds no water. Allow others to talk. Beaf = Ebelle Jonathan Eko-Ile = Fashola |
Billyonaire: Till this morning, Subsidy scam is still on going, the executive arm are mostly ignorant of the modus operandi which are perfected by the underworld mafia that controls this PMS business. I say this cos I know its on going, the most ideal thing is to remove the subsidy 100% but still grant import license for us to sell to neighboring countries without the smuggling tag, its a limitless industry. I got to step out now, later peeps. This man, are you for real. Do you think we are all idiots on Nairaland? So for all the matter wey dey ground and its grave implications, the only recommendtaion that comes to your mind is the goverment shoud increase price of petrol. Why not recommend that because of this grave revelations, there is need for even fiurther investigations into the fuel subsidy regime: if necessary a new panel etc. You know things like that. The only wey u see na increase in petrol price. |
Billyonaire: It is time to remove the subsidy 100%. I propose subsidy removal! The above also shows you are nothing but a goverment plant on Nairaland to confuse those that are dull in mind. How does the fact that Lawan may be corrupt translates now into increment in price of petrol? Increment in petrol price is a gain for oil marketers. It's not a punishment to them The Lord will give you your due reward, Billionyare=Beaf=Reno Omokri. I never knew a phycophancy like yours existed. Even though I know you are being paid for it, it still blows the mind the human-being can be this consumed in deception and lies, so much so, it has now become his reality. |
Billyonaire: Actually, Oil marketers had a hand in sponsoring the subsidy removal protest, it was also fueled by poverty, worries, price inflation and other issues which were legitimate concerns. The above shows you are nothing but a goverment plant on Nairaland to confuse those that are dull in mind. The Lord will give you your due reward. |
Please post pictures here. Where is ur location? How neat is it? |
My take is this: this event, which is sad does not prove that the Subsidy scam report of or subsidy issue shoud be abandoned. It's qiute the opposite; it proves there is even a greater need to focus more energy and further investigation on the subsdiy scam and oil marketers in the country. |

what is the processor and graphics card? Why not just paste full specs. |
Today is your lucky day. I have one that I'm about to dispose 'cause I need some small qiuick cash. This type can last 21 hourd. You can pay me 8k for it. But the good news is, a freind of mine, a lady saw ur pics on links to facebook. If you would meet with her for lunch at Mr. Biggs Maryland, she will hand it over to you for free and pay me for it. Well, the ball is in ur court. |
hubreality: Story! Any incitement that may result to anarchy and bloodshed done by Gen Buhari(rtd) is seen right by people like you. Remember, whatever you sow, that will you reap! Believe or leave it, RELIGIOUS fanaticism and TRIBALISM are core problems of Nigeria over the decades; big set back to the development of Nigeria, and for your information, corruption is never fought by one man but collectively because you also find corruption rooted in the evil of religion and tribalism.Won't you just love that: for him to drop his presidential ambition. It will give you and your freinds a lot. "corruption is never fought by one man but collectively because you also find corruption rooted in the evil of religion and tribalism" The above does not contain any sense. Anyone with one-quarter of a brain knows we need and an incorruptible leader with state powers to be the arrow-head of the fight. With such a leader in place, every other thing will fall into place. |
I jsut checked on Sahara now. Actualy, the real correct quote of Buari's words were "prosecute them and jail or shoot them". I don't know why the poster slighty altered the quote in the topic of his post. There is a big difference between "prosecute, jail or shoot them" and "prosecute them and jail or shoot them". The real correct quote implies that they will first be prosecuted; so whether they will be jailed or killed will depend on the sentencing of the prosecution. The quote shows that jailing or shooting will come after prosecution. It's not as if Buhari is saying people will just be picked up and shot like some people will have us believe |
@ demdem @ dayokanu I can't thank you enough for your contributions. We need more of you Nairaland. |
manny4life: What you perceive does not translate to what I receive. People interpret information how they choose, they don't have to be true to you, but to me as well as other who believe in it. I won't speculate on what and what he's done in the past, however, his present speech on different issues surrounding Nigeria is enough to assess what sought of leader he will make. Give me a reason to be believe that you're not all about blood and personal vendetta, give me reasons to believe that you're not what people construe you to be, then I'll support you. A leader who indirectly talks about shedding other people's blood other is NOT worthy of leadership... Period, CASE CLOSED.I will agree with u in some aspects. i beleive Buhari needs to focus on better communicatiob skills. Also he needs a good public relations team to portray his true image and offer avise on how best to communictae with the public and make in-raods into the south-west particularly. Like I said I blame CPC for this. They are not doing enough at all to sell the Buhari brand which without, their party is nothing. |

manny4life: Personally, from Buhari's comment, I, personally think, he's not Ethnically and most importantly Religiously tolerant. His comment raise concerns of a potential dictator even a democratic society. While you might have good intentions at heart, the words that proceed out of his mouth, people take it differently. Perception and Reception are two different thins. Therein lies my concern with him, the reason why I believe that he somewhat has a hidden agenda behind his good motives. No matter how much you keep repeating something, that will not make it true. You say Buhari is ethinically and religoiusly intolereant. The problem is that these things you are saying are simply not true and there is no strong pattern of evidence to suggest that they are. An appraisal of Buhari's life since he bacame military Head of State till date will show that the only thing this man is intolerant of is the unbelievable and mind-boggling corrupt and greedy elites wherever they maybe found: whether in the North, South or West. There is big propngada being backed by millions of Naira becuase the political elite have decided this man's incorruptible character is too dangerous to their interest. There is no evidenc to suggest that Buhari is more of a tribalist than GEJ or OBJ or ATIKU or TINUBU Do people know for instance that Buhari does not own a house in Abuja. I think I blame is party CPC. They are not doing enough to keep the populace informed of the person and character of Buhari; they are not doing enough to counteract the lies of the PDP propangada machine. i think they ought to write a book detailing the live of Buhari from his youth, his times and activiteis and pursuits and Head of State, everything backed up by newspaper achives, goverment documents, facts and evidence. This book should be distributed freely in schools. It should be cheaply produced. Information which is truth is powerful and will destroy all falsehoods. |
Kobojunkie: I don't need to name one. You can maybe make it your place to start looking around for anyone who will fit this bill. All I know, and have said is we need a new breed of people in office. Those who have been there for the past 30 years need to step down, Buhari not an exception. No offense, but at this point I have to say you are not making any sense. You keep insisting that it must not be Buhari but someone else. Now you are being asked a very legitimate question: who elso do you think the cap fits for the special task of ridding the country of corruption? You say you don't need to name one, that Courage 89 who asked you the question should maybe start looking for one. Yet you keep insisting it can't be Buhari. My dear, all you are spewing out is rhetorics and nothing more. Or do you suggest we go and recruit Jerry Rawling of Ghana for the job? |
The cause of Nigeria's problem is just one word: CORRUPTION. Any other connotation or analysis is needless grammar. I do not know one single politcian in this country, who as enough clout like Buhari to become the President who is capable of dealing corruption a fatal blow like Buhari. Buhari is the kind of man if elected President, even without speaking or doing anything yet, just waiting for inaguration, the terrible monster Corruption will begint o lose his grip on Nigeria, becuase you will witness many corrupt poilticians and business men begin to go on exile. This how much afraid the elites of Nigeria, whether North, South or East, are of this man becoming President. They who Buhari is more than you will ever know and are spending billions on propangada to tarnish the man's reputation. The work of this propangandist agenda is very evident on Nairaland. Pls people, go and research about Buhari yourself and stop following what you hear people saying about him. Buhari is the kind of man, if elected President, within 6 months, even the common man will be feeling it's effect and the whole world will know there is something different about Nigeria. Don't allow the thieving elites deceive you; the only thing you have to lose by electing this man is your slavery, suffering and de-huminisation in a land flowing with milk and honey, foisted upon you by the greed of the corrupt elite. He who is already down needs fear no fall. Why not try a different route. The only people Buhari is a danger to is the theiving politcal and business elite and not the masses. |
@Pukkah I reaaly like this part of your post so I'm re-posting if for the benefit of the liars and their gullible victims that allows themselves to be brainwahed by the agenda of the corrupt elite, calling Buhari a terrorist. "The claim that he also incited killings is also presumptuous and preposterous. How come they are yet to arrest him in spite of all the hollow shouts? Which evidence do you think is stronger - the one linking some people to Boko Haram (remember Ndume, Azazi, Henry Orkah, etc) and the shouts linking Buhari to the killings?" Nairalanders, the above should be food for thought. |
What the hell. Why can't u just put out for us to see. What possible rason can you have for wanting. Its like saying u have a car for sale and we dont even know what car it is. |
freecocoa: Abeg make we hear word, did you not see\read what was written on the placards those mumu students were carrying? "Our unilag babes no fit be maulag babes",Maulag no get swag" etc.Have you ever be a University student? You know that students are very exuberant and adventurous. Ofcourse some will find some other humrous ways of expressing themselves. That does change the core reasons. During the fuel subsidy protest, there were a lot of similar funny placards that does not have much to do with real reason of the protest, that were simply making jest. Then u expect the entire students to think alike. A few placards with the words u have said means nothing. It does not detract from their fight. Also when interviewed by correspondents, seversl students did intelligently articulate the very reason which is now contained in the suit against the federal goverment. @iykak47 Why is so diificult to understand that the President is violating the constitution and should not. Infact, anything else does not matter. |
abbey621: @Akainzo - You must be myopic! Who said all the previous laws were thrown away? The same Police Act that you mentioned, has it not been amended to fit in with modern provisions. Your 1960s Act of Parliament that created Unilag, did it exclude it from being a federal entity? If not, then Unilag and other federal entities are bounded by the powers of the federation which rests exclusively on the executive branch, this is Nigeria, not your twisted version of fairy-tale land. Before you open your locust infested mouth, learn more about the university systems being operated in Nigeria and whether a university can claim to be independent, while operating as a federal university! This man, stop displaying ignorance. The above that you have written; do u really think it has any meaning? No sir; it has no head or tail. It is uncordinated, unrelated, dis-jointed conjectures & ideas. That my friend is the definition of jargons. If you don't about a subject, just remaim silent. |
Akaninzo, thanks jare for helping me reply that Abbey. I dont know how many times this has to be siad before it will enter some people's head. It is not about the name change, it as about the constitionality of the act i.e the President is violating the constitution of the country. I want to beleive Nairalanders are not illiterates. |
How long ago did u buy it. Hope the screen is still free of scratch. As of 3 weeks ago 302 was 17,500 at slot and 16,300 at Affodables. How much do you want to let it go last. let me give u 13k? What's ur price. Do you have d pack + accessories? |
Please, anyone that sees this as a fight against corruption needs to have his head examined. While I am mot saying Sylva hands are clean, but this is nothing but a pure case of witch-hunting. Instaed of genuiely fighting corruption, Joanthan is using the EFCC to punish is percieved enemies. EFCC is nothing but a joke. Pls people, just check out this irony: the fuel subsidy scam investigated & exposed by the House involves an amount of almost 3000 billion fraud (3 trillion) and the nation is still waiting for Jonathan to show any intent of acting the report. And here we have the the EFCC spending the country's money, running after a scam of 6.5 billion. Which one do you think ought to be given priority? Jonathan is a wolf in sheep's clothing. He is not a victim of corrupt people round him as some would have us believe. He is a totally corrupt person himself - through & through. He is a disaster that is not on the side of the people. He has nothing to offer Nigerians but misery and punishment. Jonthan is like a husband who continually batters his wife and yet begs her everyday not to abandon him. |
edicolove: You guys are unrepentant hypocrites. So you mean the students that were on third mainland bridge were there because of the violation of the constitution? Have any of them there ever seen the constitution before? Lol. You guys won't change. Open your cocoyam leaf ears and hear loud and clear! You have misplaced priorities! You were already demonstrating and making noise long before the constitutional lawyers started running their mouths. So you aint fooling anyone with your "fighting for constitution" blab. You were angry because MKO's name did not have enough swag. Simply put, MKO's name was not up to it. Stop going round in circles.Rather than respond logically to logical arguement, what you are doing now is just ranting unintelligible jargons: emotions and sentiments talking without the benefit of intellect. Have a nice night. |
abbey621: @Lanre front: Ogbeni Komot here with your wayo analysis! You're one of those twisted individuals who blatantly twist around clear fact into twisted meanings. The law is simple and any attempt to derail its meaning is futile, the executive power of the federation gives GEJ the right to oversee all federal entities, including the almighty Unilag! It's high time you people wake up, we are no longer in the 60s, your act of parliament holds no ground, when it comes to modern constitution and the only recognized version of the constitution remains the 1999 version, wait a minute! Why am I even wasting my time explaining things, sentiments and pure ignorance won't allow some people to think with an open mind, so let's leave the decisions to the court, cos we all know, nothing we do or say here on Nairaland would affect the outcome, peace! What I have said is the right thing. What you are saying now is nothing but hog-wash. Sorry sir, but I have to say this: you are an Olodo. There is nothing worse than a semi-illiterate (educated illiterate). An illiterate knows that he does not know and tries to learn; but a semi-illiterate believes he knows, when infact he knows nothing. Whay a pity. |

abbey621: Nigerian students and their limited point of view, allow me to use your own words against you, Unilag was formed as part of an Act of Parliament in the 1960s, since then the constitution has been rewritten twice. Nigeria is now governed by the 1999 constitution and from the constitution, specifically Part II, section 5 states the following:Lord have mercy, what you have quoted means the exact opposite of your interpretation. That section is saying, that executives powers are vested in the President - right - which he may delegate to members of his cabinet - right - but that executves power and it's delegated counterparts, must be exercised accordingly in subjection "to the provisions of any law made by the National Assembly ". In order words, it is the job of National Assembly to make polices/laws and it's the job of the Executive to execute those law/policies. However, the Executive/President can also originate laws/policies in the interest of good governance, and then pass it to the National Assemby which is the only arm of goverment that has the power to make or amend laws. The National Assemblies then considers the request of the President and it is seen as good for the country, passes it into law. It is called separation of powers. This are the basic elementary opeartions of a Presidential system of democracy. Pls people, let us try to educate ourselves The changing of the name of Unilag is a constitutional ammendment and it only within the competence of the National Assembly. Any other goverment body that does it is in violation of the constitution. |
