Svoboda:
The US is overbearing. It continues with its age long policy of violating an independent countrys sovereignity. Let the city council effect the street change. It should not dictate who bears what. The RSA wouldn't dictate whose name is placed on a street in NY as well. By the time they realize how much they're losing in visa fees, the consulate will be reopened.
I’m shocked at those applauding the decision. How can you detect to another sovereign nation on how to act within the confines of their laws.

IslamRe: Frequently Asked Questions In Ramadan by lapazi(m): 11:33am On Mar 07, 2025
AbuAbdirrahmaan:
Ramadan brings many questions about fasting, prayer, and daily practices. Here are some common FAQs with their answers:

1️⃣ Do I need to make an intention for fasting every night?
Yes, for obligatory fasts, the intention should be made before Fajr. However, a general intention at the start of Ramadan is sufficient unless a fast is broken.

2️⃣ Can I taste food while fasting?
Yes, but only if necessary, and it should be spit out without swallowing.

3️⃣ Does swallowing phlegm break the fast?
No, unless it reaches the mouth and is swallowed intentionally.

4️⃣ Can I eat or drink while hearing the Fajr Adhan?
Yes, if the food or drink is already in hand, as per the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ.

5️⃣ When should I break my fast?
At sunset, not necessarily at the Adhan, as long as the sun has fully set.

6️⃣ What if water enters my throat unintentionally during rinsing?
It does not break the fast, as it was not intentional.

7️⃣ Can I use toothpaste while fasting?
Yes, but ensure nothing is swallowed.

8️⃣ Is fasting valid if I wake up in a state of major impurity?
Yes, fasting remains valid. Ghusl should be done to pray Fajr.

9️⃣ Can women take pills to delay menstruation for fasting?
Yes, if deemed safe by a medical professional.

🔟 Does silent Quran recitation (without moving the tongue) count?
No, true recitation requires moving the tongue.

1️⃣1️⃣ How should supplication (Dua) be made?
With humility, not excessive beautification of the voice.

1️⃣2️⃣ Can another congregation pray while Tarawih is ongoing?
No, separate congregations during Tarawih should be avoided.

1️⃣3️⃣ What does “praying with the Imam until he finishes” mean?
It means staying for the entire Tarawih and Witr, earning the reward of praying all night.

🤲 May Allah bless us in the remaining days of Ramadan and guide us to what pleases Him. Aameen!

Foreign AffairsRe: "I Thought We Voted For America First" - Republican Senator Knocks Trump on Gaza by lapazi(m): 9:24pm On Feb 06, 2025
BigboyOJ:
Just like you I have no dog in the fight but I only got interested in this conflict because of the incredible hatred and vitriol directed at the Jews after all they have been through almost throughout history.. it's not about being a Christian because Jews are not even Christians in the first place.

Just like you I sought to know the real history of both Israel and the Arabs now called Palestinians and also the disputed land with a clear sound mind without outside influence and I came to the conclusion that Israel has the stronger claim to the land than the Arabs.

This informations are easily gotten on Google and YouTube and not Aljazeera or BBC that are clearly biased.so do a bit of research on your own and you will see how weak the Palestinian claim to the land is.

It's very refreshing you want justice and against injustices but you have to know the nitty gritty of the problem before you can come to that point.

The Jews claim of Judea is not just religious but historical as well and as been proven beyond reasonable doubt, every archaeological find throughout the land has turned up Jewish artifacts.

Don't let the name Palestine deceive you,the land was originally named land of Israel or Judea(coined from Jew) but was renamed Syria and Palestina by the Roman emperor Hadrian after quelling a violent Jewish rebellion and the term Palestinians refered to everyone living in the then British mandate for Palestine.
It wasn't a separate ethnic group or nationality as it is today but refered to Jews, Arabs, Bedouins, Christians, Muslims etc.

The name was later stolen by Yasser Arafat and co under the KGB's advice to mean Arabs.

It is not the ancestral home of any Arab talkless of Palestinians,Arabs are not indigenous to the land but only started migrating to the area from Arabia and North Africa after it was conquered by Islamic armies and the ottoman empire..

There's no denying the fact that Arabs have also been lived long in the area from the time of the ottoman empire period as result they too have a modicum of rights to the land that's why Israels population is about 20% (about 2m) Arab.the ones that stayed behind and didn't join or take sides with invading Arab armies and militias are now citizens with equal rights with Jews in Israel and would not want to be anywhere else in the Middle East because of the rights and quality of life they enjoy in Israel.

The then original British mandate for Palestine was supposed to be divided into an Arab and a Jewish state but the Brits went ahead to create the hashemit kingdom of Jordan out of the land, still the Jews had no problem with anyone when it was agreed it would be further divided into a Jewish and Arab states the Jews still agreed but the Arabs blatantly refused and the very next day the mandate ended and Israel declared it's independence Arab countries and militias invaded Israel with the goal of exterminating the Jews but were dealt a heavy demoralizing defeat and by the end of the war Israel had gotten more land than it had from the mandate.

You lose land and territory when you start and lose a war that's how it is.israel got Judea and Samaria (now fancifully called West Bank) from Jordan, got the Golan heights from Syria and the Sinai desert and Gaza strip from Egypt after those wars.

Israel gave back the Sinai desert and wanted to give back Gaza to Egypt but Egypt vehemently refused taking back Gaza and it almost derailed the agreement and that was how Israel got stuck with Gaza.

What stoped the Arabs from declaring their own nation after Israel did in 1948? Because they wanted the whole land and not just part of it and would have gotten it had their genocidal war succeeded.Their leaders have also refused on more than 6 occasions attempts at settling the conflicts.

Do you know before this current war in Gaza triggered by Hamas cross border attacks on Israel in October 7 Israel had unilaterally withdrawn from Gaza in 2005.
They had the opportunity of turning Gaza into the Rivera of the middle east with all the aids and donations coming into Gaza but they instead used it procure rockets and build tunnels all over Gaza.
Yet Hamas attacked Israel knowing full well that they were going to be hit hard as rightly expected.

There were thriving Jewish communities in nearby Islamic countries and North Africa before 1948 before they were ethnically clinsed and evicted losing all they had worked for (Jewish nakba) but there's virtually non again in those areas while the population of Arabs in Israel and environs had drastically increased, now tell me who genocided who?

Just do a bit of undiluted unbiased research on your own and you would know the truth and see how the Palestinian claims fall apart like a pack of cards..

Ask me further questions and I'll answer them.
I appreciate the fact that you took time to take me up on this challenge, to have a meanful discuss. I also appreciate the perspectives you have brought to this issue. I must admit that this is a very complicated topic with a long history, but your argument contains a number of misleading claims and omissions.

I will break it down. First is the history and ownership of the land.

The land we’re talking about, what is now Israel and/or Palestine, has been home to many different people for thousands of years, including Canaanites, Hebrews, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, and Ottomans. Nations and borders change over time, but one thing remains true: people who have lived in a place for generations naturally see it as their homeland.

You can argue that Jews have the strongest claim to the land because of ancient history. But the same logic applies to the Palestinians, who have lived there continuously for centuries. Saying that Palestinians are not a “real people” ignores the fact that national identities evolve. By that logic, Israelis didn’t exist before 1948 either, since “Israelis” as a nationality is a modern concept.

Secondly, you mentioned about the Nakba. In 1947, the United Nations proposed a partition plan, giving 56% of the land to Jewish settlers, even though they made up only about 33% of the population. Palestinians rejected it, not because they hated Jews, but because it felt unfair. Imagine if a foreign power came and handed over half of Southern Nigeria to Fulani herders to prevent farmers-herders comflict, just because these herders claim that southern Nigeria has always been part of their grazing route. you’d probably be upset too.

Then came the 1948 war, during which 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced from their homes. This event, known as the Nakba ("catastrophe"wink, was not just a case of "losing a war". Zionist militias carried out massacres and destroyed villages to ensure that these refugees could never return. This isn’t speculation; Israeli historians, including Benny Morris and Ilan Pappé, have documented it extensively.

Furthermore, losing land in War doesn’t Justify OPPRESSION. Some people argue that when you lose a war, you lose land- end of story. But international law doesn’t work that way. If it did, should Germany still be under Allied control after WWII? Should colonial empires still exist? The UN and international courts have repeatedly ruled that land cannot be taken through war.

Yet, Israel has continued to expand, settling Jewish citizens in Palestinian territories in violation of UN Resolution 242. These aren’t just empty lands, people already lived there, and now they are being forced out.

Now to the crux of the discussion- the reality of Gaza and the West Bank.
Many say, “Why don’t Palestinians build Gaza into something great?” The truth is, they can’t, because Israel has enforced a strict blockade since 2005, controlling everything that enters or leaves- including food, medicine, and electricity. Gaza’s economy can’t grow when its borders are sealed.

Meanwhile, in the West Bank, Palestinians live under military occupation, while Israeli settlers live under Israeli civil law. That means two people, living in the same land, have completely different rights based on ethnicity. If that’s not APATHEID, what is?

This is my own personal opinion. Shouldn’t Jews, of All People, Understand This?
Jewish people have suffered immense persecution throughout history, especially in the Holocaust. That’s why it’s heartbreaking to see Israel engaging in policies that look very similar to what was once done to them- forced displacement, segregation, and collective punishment.

This isn’t about denying Israel’s right to exist. It’s about recognizing that Palestinians also have a right to live with dignity and freedom in their homeland.

If we condemned apartheid in South Africa, how can we turn a blind eye to it in Palestine?

Finally, this conflict isn’t just about history, it’s about what’s happening right now. If we truly care about justice, we should be advocating for equal rights for both Jews and Palestinians. It’s not about choosing a side; it’s about choosing fairness.

So, let’s ask ourselves: Do we support Palestinians having the same rights and freedoms as Israelis? If not, why?

Or,Saudi Arabia and Iran are scared of Hamas that they funded?
I have a lot to say but let me say this first, if you have a functioning brain, you'd know that the issues didn't start on oct 7th.

secondly, i blame hamas for this, because you dont go into a war that you know you cant win. So dont even come up with antics that i sympathize with hamas.

finally, how can we all condemn Hitler for trying to exterminate jews by ethnically cleanse them out of Germany but in the same breath support the current displacement of Palestinians from their land. (weather you like it or not its theirs, that's how land works, ownership changes hands over time, so do not bring any religious sentiments here)
