I wish Starboytwo could provide more context (such as where it happened, how long he was parked, whether he alighted and went to passenger side to adjust the belt, how he was arrested and whether they came in a vehicle or not) because i see important learning opportunities here.

However, I suspect it happened along the Gbagada to Mile 2 axis because you will most of the towing SUV vehicles of these so-called state task force guys patrolling that axis. If you park along that road for long, they will double cross and come out with that iron spikes the put under the tires. I have seen it happen several times. Also at that stretch of 7/8 bustup to airport axis

I had a bitter encounter with them when I started driving in Lagos back then, although not related to parking. I was coming from Oshodi for an urgent appointment at Daleko so I was wrongly taking calls while driving and i didnt know they were trailing me from behind. Just before the point at Iyana-isolo where there is an exit to the right, these guys double-crossed me and sprang out.

I still remember it like it was yesterday and it fills me with so much anger. One was on my right and the other on my left, and both were talking to me at the same time. They distracting me, while the others were wedging my car behind (because I felt my car move slightly at the back). The guy on my right then told me to wind down, I did so slightly, then he put in his hand up to his elbow as if he wanted to shake me. Foolish me extended my hand to shake...lol...After shaking me, he proceeded to unlock my car, came in and sat down.

My gear was on Park, so he immediately took out my key, and told me to go to the Van and speak with their oga. That was another mistake I made. I came down and went to meet one scrawny hungry looking guy that claimed to be their Oga. He introduced himself as a Detective and told me they were going to impound my car because I was driving and using my phone. Ah! Naivety no good ooo.

He told me to go back to my car, by then someone was already in my driver seat and was ready to drive my car to their office. I entered the car with them and they started quoting many laws aroynd using the phone while driving and saying that there was even a fatal accident on that road the previous week because of a driver who was driving and using his phone.

To cut the long story, i was easy meat for them because they extorted 75k from me when we got their office.

With my experience now driving in Lagos, I can share some learnings from that incident: First is, of course, to not use your phone while driving. Secondly, is to never ever ever stop for this guys. If they double cross you, find a way to meander out. No one can come near you as long as you are still moving your vehicle, because nobody wants to get hit. Keep reversing and moving forward to get away. Just don't stay stationary. If they flank you and are trying to speak with you, don't listen, they are trying to distract you. Keep trying to get away from them.

We can add more learnings, particularly how to effectively negotiate or show some craze to them at the office.

At current level, to deck a storey building of three bedrooms (about less than half a plot in size) will set you back on average about N8 million. How much is a full plot of land in the area?

If a plot of land is well above 8 million, a storey building is better value for money. When you deck a building, you are essentially creating at a cost more space in the air. So, if a plot of land is 25 million for example, it is more economical to create additional space in the air for 8million.

If a plot of land in the area is well under 8million at current value, a bungalow is a better value for money. What's the economic point of creating additional space in the air at a cost of 8million when you can buy additional land for example for 2 million.

All the above are purely on economic permutations. The situation takes a different twist if you are emotionally attached to the area and there are no additional land to buy. In this situation, you should have bought a minimum of two plots from inception or you weigh the cost of creating additional space in the air against your desire for additional compound space and go for whichever is greater.

The economics of buying a piece of land is if the land is relatively cheap, buy a minimum of two plots together. You never know.

A plot of land here is nearly 10million and i just need 2 units of 3 bedroom flats. I love the idea of having a spacious compound so that I can have a garden where my wife can plant some vegetables and teach my children the principles of sowing and reaping.

So, I think it will be better getting a plot of land and build a 1 storey building comprising of 1 unit of 3 bedroom flat upstairs and downstairs, then have ample space around.

Please, what are your thoughts about buying a land with a building on it?

Would it be that easy and cost-effective to demolish it and build a one storey building consisting of 3-bedroom flats? Or should I go for an empty land instead, assuming I have a choice for one, but in a less attractive location?

I share same deep gutted sentiments as you also. That guy is a ticking time bomb. I wasn't convinced one bit with the defence he put up in his accusation. Whoever intends to deal with him should proceed with 15 escrows, even in addition to dealing face to face with hi.

The determining factors are as follows:

* The cost and availability of vacant plots at the said location, the more expensive and scarce plots are at the location, the more a storey building makes more economic sense.

* Availability of funds - to deck a standard 3 bedroom flat should cost like 7M naira , i recently decked a double 3 bedroom apartment for a little over 14M

Guys, which of this is cheaper and gives more value for money:

1. Building a twin (I.e. 2 units of) 3 bedroom bungalow on a 1 plot of land with a flat roof for relaxation and mounting of solar panels, or

2. Building a one-storey building of 3 bedroom apartments each (on the ground and top floor), with a flat roof for relaxation and mounting of solar panels.

I tend to favour number 2 because of the extra space that will remain from the 1 plot after the whole project, but I am also sensitive to cost.

I honestly don’t want to dabble into this price of a thing too deep. It’s not today, market will regulate itself. My most concern is the state of the nation, maybe the importers are the ones enjoying and on the flip, they’ll tell you they don’t have money to import goods. Workers are already complaining of hikes in transportation, food stuffs will follow soon. Cost of maintaining car is sick. If things continue in this progression, one may not be able to buy same car after 2 years. E.g if one buy Corolla like 2 years ago for this hustle, can we say we’ve saved to enable us buy same car at present value? About price… if fuel goes back to 100 naira today, the app won’t automatically reset back to the value of such. It will take some time. The only problem I have here is drivers not ignoring some trips. Drivers inability not to off their app. If some go offline, it will be surge for another. All in all, let all man do what works for them..

I don't want to believe some drivers are living from hand to mouth, hence their accepting just any trips as two people have opined so far. Driving hustle is one that the cost of inputs (particularly fuel) will hit you within a short while, so if you are not operating profitably, the reality will hit you within 48hours max when you need to refill your tank, as you will wonder where all your money went.

While factors like road familiarity, proximity to residence or other desired locations can make some drivers accept certain trips with seeming ridiculous amount, I do believe that most of such drivers have gained some efficiency as regards "source of power" for their cars

I personally see this whole fuel chaos and crisis as a blessing in disguise, because it will ultimately lead to people seeking independence from fuel as fuel is not only so expensive, it is also extremely difficult to buy. We are already seeing a significant a massive adoption of solar energy in households, offices and industries.

While we wait for solar or electric-powered vehicles to become mainstream in Nigeria, a quick way to reduce your reliance on fuel and gain some efficiency as a driver is through the adoption of CNG in the mid-term.

I know this is a touchy subject as some of us have valid reasons against CNG, but I cannot see any other alternative that brings cost-savings even in the short term for drivers that are always on the road, and I think e-hailing drivers and companies should be on the forefront of this CNG adoption because there is a limit to how high prices can be increased to.

On one of my visits to NIPCO CNG Station at MFM to make enquiries early this year, I met 2 e-hailing drivers and I was shocked at the savings they reported when they compared operational cost of fuel and CNG even as at then. I can only imagine what those cost-savings will be now that fuel price is on steroid. Infact, one of them stays at Ajah, but he has structured his schedule to get a trip that will bring him to MFM axis so that he can refuel before going home for the day.

Let us work towards de-coupling ourselves from fuel as much as possible. It is a curse and a tool with which a few elite have held us hostage for decades. I hope we see several NGOs and Non-profits springing up to drive this, because it is a just cause.

May not be a "well paid police DPO" per se. Having some goodwilled police connections can get the job done. The scammer will refund all the costs incurred in apprehending him. Some people just need to be taught a lesson

Do you know some professionals got scammed recently on LinkedIn. You will never believe such could happen there.

The scammer was selling nice corporate shoes (scam) and was posting reviews that looked so genuine. If you see conversations, it will be hard to believe the person was a scammer.

Please direct me to the LinkedIn posts about this scam.

A colleague also got scammed by a popular Canadian travel agent on LinkedIn. Dude appears very legit, always churning out travel posts with lots of engagements.

I was scammed of about N25,000 from a vendor on Instagram who claims they sell hand made shoes. I paid the total money for the shoe and the transport cost and since then the guy stopped replying messages nor picking his calls. I intend to follow this your steps above to see if I can recover my funds from this scammer. I will post my progress here too as I go on.
