Politics / Re: Pictures Of Damaged Calabar To Obudu Road by larez(m): 9:42am On Sep 11, 2012
It is so unfortunate that Nigeria lacks leadership in about everything including planning. Cross Rivers is an outlet for precipitation coming from many mountain ranges. As a matter of observation, Bakassi peninsula could be a creation of erosion from the Land knows as Cross Rivers State. Issues of Roads and Sinkholes will continue unless there is a comprehensive plan to mitigate and redirect the massive flow that creates raging rivers looking for outlets to the sea.

Anyone who knows how to use Google Earth in 3D with a +3 exaggeration can quickly see areas prone to flooding when the rains come. Topographical changes will need to be made and rainfall will need to be properly channeled into Rivers or drainage tunnels. Roadways such as the ones to Ikom from Calabar will never work, until Engineers first understand that the ground surface level changes yearly as it swells with rainwater and shrinks back in the dry season. Without designing these roads for flexibility and redirecting water to specific areas that will bear elevated roads, they will be like dogs chasing their own tails. For other roads, Geotextiles will be required regardless.

Regarding Sinkholes, Geological exploration will be required over the whole area to locate underground rivers that run through, and weak rock formations that could collapse into these rivers should be charted for mitigation.

Politics / Re: Can Introduction Of new N5,000 Note Present Looting Opportunity For The Corrupt? by larez(m): 6:14am On Sep 02, 2012
To me, this is a form of looting and creating more contract opportunities for cronies. What will be the cost of embarking on this? Nigerians really need to start paying attention. These guys come up with ways to earn money. They hardly care about the country.

Look at this 419 idiot posting stuff from Odili net. How come it is only Odili net that has these stories about Yoruba people? Even when you read the stories, they don't make sense. Fabrications from a people who try to justify their criminality by trying to make everyone else criminals. You only fool yourselves.

Politics / Re: Chevron Report That An Oil Rig Caught Fire Near Niger Delta by larez(m): 6:54pm On Jan 16, 2012
What is so funny about this news? At least 30-60 Nigerians were probably on this rig assuming 2 shifts, and you guys laugh about them losing their lives. You should feel ashamed. I wonder what caused this. Blow out preventer (BOP), or inadequate mud mix/adjustment to kick.
Business / Re: Ikeja City Mall At Alausa by larez(m): 11:27am On Dec 18, 2011
I just don't understand what the issue is about these negative people who criticize malls. Malls are more than shopping centers. They are also recreational facilities for young people. They are social meetup areas for them. As much as I hear about deals at Yaba or Mile2, I will never venture to shop in those places. It is infact traumatic when all types of hoodlums make you want to hit somebody. They pull on women and harass you to come to their shops.

Most people who have lived abroad understand the value and necessity of malls. They are a far cry from the shops out there in Lagos now. They are civilized and places to sometimes go relax your mind and window shop at. Anyone that cannot see this must be some village bred enemy of progress. As I am a Lagosian without a village (unless you want to call Isale Eko a village), I am happy to see malls coming up. Next we need to have more to create competition. Then we start phasing out the jungle markets. Then the mindset of people will improve.

I go to Shoprite, Surulere at least 2ce a week. Their kitchen is kept hygienic, and I can comfortably eat the variety of food prepared there. I will reduce my visits there, because they are now jacking up their prices at least 20% from what I used to pay for the same items. This is greed! I make a habit of comparing their prices to Kroger and other Grocery stores in the United States. I was comfortable with a markup of 15%-20% when compared. However, I will not pay the 40%-60% that I am seeing now. It is now cheaper to buy food from Tastee Chicken for example than to buy from the Shoprite kitchen, which removes the point of going to a grocery store in the first place.

The only thing that I can do now is to shop less at shoprite, until they realize that their business practices need to be consumer friendly. They had something that was working and have started spoiling it. If many more Nigerians will follow my steps, then we can force them to give us value for our money. More competition will force them anyhow.

Another important point that many have missed, is that Malls are the main employment places for Students who need to work part-time, as well as recent graduates. Malls have a large employment turnover because of this. They are usually transition jobs for students, and recent graduates. Many times, they are recruited by customers that they have provided great service to at the mall. In my case, I have already spotted a couple of young people at the Surulere mall, that I will gladly steal from their jobs when the opportunity arises. Let's all embrace progress!!
