KingTom: The maize and wheat price crash will crash the price of feed which will in turn crash the price of eggs and birds. The bird and egg price crash will vis a vis crash the state of hunger, the state of hunger will crash the state of anger and the state of anger will to some extent crash the state of insecurity It's a simple stuff with ripple effect across the agribusiness. This is the same policy that the government should've done like immediately the hyperinflation started. Nonsense and ingredients. |

liveLongNprospa: What does communication do when the actions are still leading to suffering? At what point do you think people will start calling the communication lamba? Whether the people call the communication lamba or not is irrelevant, it's the government responsibility to fully communicate their intentions and policy to the people. When Tinubu removed fuel subsidy and unified exchange rate, was the policy not clearly communicated? Let them keep the same energy on actions and policy they are doing to alleviate the suffering of the people. |

I also suggested separation and creating New Ministry for Foods Security, basically with sole objective - flood every nook and cranny of Nigeria with subsidized foods. Una no see this ó, na Oasis dey mock us una dey post upandan. LOL! There is anger and hunger in the land and the government that should communicate clearly what they are doing to stop the suffering of the people are either gaslighting them or dragging their feet. The government need to sort out its comms team, 90% of them should be fired immediately. Even the little the government is doing, nobody is explaining them. Ajuri has been nothing short of a disappointment. Dele Alake should be brought back to the ministry of information and Tolu reappointed as the President spokesperson. |

liveLongNprospa: I agree. So then what is the alternative seeing as anti-government protests are demonised.
What do you suggest is done that will also have the same effect and send the required message to a Federal Government that doesn't care. The government can demonize protest as much as they like, it doesn't stop it from being a legit form of expressing the citizens disaffection. As per your last question, the best form of protest in a democracy is through the ballot. |

liveLongNprospa: Lmaooo mention the last time you saw a major anti-government protest that was peaceful in apc regime. We can go back to PDP too.
Now what can we do as anti-government protests are violent? What are the alternatives? No protest even end peacefully. There are some people just waiting for a little disobedience across board to start carrying out their own agenda. That's why instead of the police warning people not to protest so it wont be hijacked, they should be making sure that the protest is carried out in a controlled manner where they can nip any violence in the mud immediately. |

izzou: I no sabi economics, and when Ibi.me or User comment, i shut up and read.
But i have done enough buying and selling to know that all these theories are just talks. It will reduce next to nothing.
When we were paying 70% import duty, dollar was 400. Infact, how much did Buhari leave it?
Now without any import duty, it is 1600. So, how will zero import duty reduce whatever we are paying? It can get to 1800 before we finish August.
If Tinubu removes duty from fuel and stops subsidy, you will buy fuel at 1,100. Infact, before the next Eke market day, it will be 1250.
Then you'll tell me that it is cheaper? This is not how it work bro. Let's use $1 - 1600. Before the open border and import duties waiver: If you buy a container of Wheat at $50k, that's 80m naira using the exchange rate of 1600, you will then have to pay a 70% import duties on the container of Wheat that you just imported. That's 0.7x$50,000 = $35,000. Using the exchange rate of 1600, that's 56m. It basically means the businessman will pay 80m + 56m = 136m for a full container of Wheat. With the new policy, the same business man will pay just 80m, saving the business man 56m. Which price will be cheaper, when the businessman has to pay 136m or 80m? This doesn't negate the fact that exchange rate has to go down significantly also to further crash the price further. |

swiz123: Opening of border could help us gain from those commodities in which we have comparative disadvantage, and as well as grant tax waivers on those adjudged to be necessary. Yeah. I think that's what izzou and itsrm didnt get. The FG is making essential food items and materials import duty free and granting some tax waivers. For example, Wheat has a 70% import duties on it, I think Rice has a 90% import duties or so. This duties automatically double the price of the commodity from the initial price the importer buy it from. While the policy won't fully crash the price of things, it will reduce the prices of those commodity. The govt need to find a way to make the exchange rate go down significantly though. |

The number win you score as a protester is an effective label of your protest. If you say "bad governance",, you have to try and be more specific. Is it corruption? Is it failure of justice? is it failed economy?. Governance is too broad a stroke for protests. Make exact demands. You are right. |

Top Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh has been killed in Iran, the group has said.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Hamas said Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli raid on his residence in Tehran.
According to the group, Haniyeh died after participating in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian who was sworn in on Tuesday.
Nobody has yet to claim responsibility. Won't this just stoke up more tension and continue the infighting? Even if there's a chance of peace, Israel just piss it out of the window. |

There is a reason why I defer to Ibime to bring expert opinion into the matter. For one thing, the price of crude oil is not fixed, the crude oil pledged is a form of guarantee that even if oil prices tank tomorrow, the loan and the interest will be paid. This kind of deal also involve CBN and FIRS. The interest on loan and loan amount is known. |
