It's cheaper in PH compared to Lagos. I was surprised when I went to PH after election.

Here is going through the roof.

In surulere, 2bedroom flats are going for nothing less than 1.5m annually and that's not even a newly built house. You will get 2m to 2.8m for newly built 2bedflats.
It makes no sense but you will be surprised that they will rush the house. Its something else

PH prices are holding or dropping and I suspect the rest of the country is doing same except Lag and maybe ABJ. I'm not talking rent here but purchase
Most of Lagos real estate and nightlife is powered by fraud and money laundering. That's what driving up the prices.

I don't so o. Someone yesterday still lamented to me about how her landlady increased her annual house rent from N600k to N1.2m last week.

Even for price of properties for sale, the prices are jumping due to the naira-dollar wahala. All those new houses built in Lekki axis are going up cos most of the developers paid for some of the fittings at a high cost due to the naira-dollar palava
I'm surprised Oga Ibime says house price is dropping. My landlord don even increase my own rent also and my current rent never expire.

Do you still believe that if the refinery (whenever it starts working) starts, it will reduce the price of fuel? 😁
Of course I do. Might not be much but it will. The refinery is also not just producing fuel, there are alot of products that the refinery will produce.

Buying fuel locally in Naira means we gets to save scarce fx that marketers would've use to import the product.

It is not the project itself that he was opposing and dont forget that Abaribe is the minority leader then if I'm not mistaken.

It was about the chinese loans and how we are selling away the future of the country.

I am not disputing your story.

What i can't understand is when you said SE senators, with you naming 2, are responsible for it not happening then.

How can 2 senators be the reason, when there are more than 24 senators that are going to benefit from it?

If Abaribe was outraged by the fact that it was a Chinese loan, what did the senator from Cross River or Bayelsa or Lagos say? Nothing.

I don't think the project was stalled because 2 SE senators opposed it, and you know it isn't true too.
I said they were the one that raised outrage about it. Even Amaechi said it that if he took chinese loan now, they will say why is he taking chinese loan.

The kuku is that Exim bank pulled out of the project, if Exim bank didnt pull out of the project, the project would've been completed.

Toor.

I no too know the story, but just reading from both sides, it is hard to comprehend how two senators ensured that it didn't work.

The biggest beneficiaries of a rail network are those where it starts, and those where it terminates.

Abaribe and his Abia do not fall into any of that category. So what were Lagos and Cross River senators saying when Abaribe was opposing?

My English no too good sha. Na night school I go.
The Lagos senators already have a Lagos to Kano route that will pass through all SW states all the way to Kano.

If they are to chose one, I know the one they will most likely chose. Infact the completed Lagos to Ibadan line is testament.

Projects like this is all about collaboration.

This is the route of the Lagos to Calabar railline. Theres no way Abariabe will say the route didnt follow Aba.

Maybe you are talking of the Eastern corridor. PH to Maiduguri.

The old Eastern corridor line pass through only Abia and Enugu but the approved reconstruction will also pass through Anambra, Imo and Ebonyi taking the states the PH to Maiduguri line will pass through to 14 from 10.

I don't even see how only 2 Senators are enough to stop a bill/project. A rail from Lagos to Calabar cannot have only Abaribe complaining. Lagos have Senators. Same for Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta and all the states on that corridor. So which one be say na Abaribe stop am?

I just dey ask oh

cc Larride.
The Lagos to Calabar railine is an expensive project. It's to cost $11.12bn and constructed by CCECC. Exim Bank of China was supposed to fund the project.

This was when the project was signed in 2016.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/fg-ccecc-sign-mou-11-12bn-lagos-calabar-railway-project/amp/

In September 2017 after series of outrage about Chinese loans and the likes, Exim bank then refused to fund the project which means the govt have to look for another partner for the project.

4yrs after in 2021, the FG approved the project again to CCECC and the search for investor to invest in the railline began again.

https://www.thecable.ng/fec-approves-11bn-for-lagos-calabar-coastal-rail-project/amp

In Oct 2022, The minister for transportation announced they have reached an advanced agreement with Standard Chartered Group to finance 85% of the project while the govt finance the remaining 15%.

If Exim bank of China had not withdrawn from the project, the project will surely have been completed. In that time space, the Lagos - Ibadan rail was constructed, the Itapke to Warri line was completed, the Ibadan to Kano line construction has started also while the PH to Maiduguri line reconstruction started also.

Your problem is that you are mixing things up together.

The one they called Eastern Rail is the one that runs from PH to Maiduguri and work is already going on that route.

The bone of contention in my argument with BlueRayDick was the Lagos to Calabar railline.

The PH to Maiduguri line is a reconstruction, they are reconstructing the existing line there while the Lagos to Calabar is a new line to be built from scratch.

The reconstruction of the PH to Maiduguri line started last year.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/nairametrics.com/2022/04/11/infrastructure-fg-commences-reconstruction-of-port-harcourt-maiduguri-line/%3famp=1

You keep jumping into discussion you have no idea about and then begin to jump from pillar to post.

They said why will FG propose a STandard rail project in the WEST & norTh, even another standard rail line from Kano~maradi but want to build narrow gauge rail in the EAStern corridor?

The minister did not answer. They demanded to know the terms & condition of the loan... The minister did not provide it. They even started work @ the site. All of a sudden we heard that work has stopped c0x of lack of fund
You are saying rubbish. In 2017 when the Eastern Corridor rail was suppose to start, theres nothing like Kano to Maradi rail line. Kano to Maradi hasn't even started, MOU was just signed this January. The Kano to Maradi line will start from where the Ibadan to Kano route will stop from.

If the minister which was Amaechi didnt answer, how did they know the content of the document to start raising the issue of sovereignty or not?

It is the PH to Maiduguri line that is narrow gauge, not the proposed Lagos to Calabar railline that is STANDARD GUAGE. If you dont have any knowledge about anything, a simple google search should save you the embarrassment.

Keep making excuses for your leaders who have decided to play politics with your region so they can continue to use it to win elections. Lagos to Ibadan was proposed and funded without SW stalling the project, Ibadan to Kano has started, both the SW and the region it will pass through to get to Kano didnt stall the project also, by God's grace it will be completed soon. It is when it gets to the Lagos to Calabar line that your legislators start attacking the project so they can have something to blame Buhari for.

Dont hold your leaders accountable, continue to make excuses for them. Na you sabi.

BlueRayDick:
If I understand what u are saying here:

1. Buhari wanted to construct eastern corridor rail line

2. Abaribe and other eastern senators protested against it (This u inferred from the senators cautioning against Buhari taking chinese loans which has turned out badly for some African countries in the long run)

3. The Chinese didn't fund the project eventually and Buhari abandoned it.

4. Later Kano - Niger Republic rail line project was proposed and somehow they were able to get funding for the project ( Not from China but from German banks and other EU agencies)

Now let me put it staright to u here and now. Buhari obviously took the advice of dem Abaribe which was a reasonable one, then proceeded to source for funds elsewhere only to use it to fund a project to Niger republic.

All the shalaye u've done up there is nothing but u actually indicting Buhari further for what I have accused him of. U didn't absolve him in any way. Die this talk of anybody hating anybody, na those kind talks make Buhari use 8 years spoil this country while u guys were cheering him on.
Like I said before, it's not compulsory for you to like Buhari but you shouldn't twist fact.

After the Chinese pulled out of the project in 2017, the govt began to source for funds for the project and was able to get Standard Chartered Bank to agree to fund the $11bn last year.

If the legislators had not pulled the prank they did, the Lagos - Calabar project might be nearing completion.

If you think finance for a $11bn project is easy to come by especially as Covid changed everything, you will know the fault of this project lies with the legislators.

Buhari didnt prioritize Kano - Maradi project over the eastern corridor rail and I stand by it. To say he did was false.
