Hello everyone! this is my first post on Nairaland, and I have a number of inquries to make, with regards to my imminent immigration to Finland. I'm going on a one year Resident permit, as I'm married to a Finnish girl. Firstly, can I travel with cigarettes (Benson switch, about 5packs, my inlaws requested for this as they smoked it here during their visits), food stuffs including: Beans, egusi, ogbono, and not raise any eyebrows at the airport? Secondly, as a first time traveler going with Turkish Airlines, how many hours is the layover at Istanbul? Being a rookie, how can I easily navigate through my connecting flight to Helsinki? Thirdly, as an athlete from Nigeria, (I'm good in 100 and 200m categories), how can I proceed with my career in this new environment? what are the welfare facilities for athletes? how can I get into competitions there? I'm heading to Tampere specifically and will live with my wife....Finally, I have been learning some finnish language on my own here in Nigeria, but I obviously have to go to the language school there, how can I get into one there? Is it true that one is paid for learning it?


My questions are bulky, hopefully the experienced people in the house, and currently in Finland will do justice to these probing questions....Kiitos Paljon!

it is actually a German school that runs a joint MSC with Helsinki UAS. first year in Helsinki and the second year in Berlin. admission and enrollment is handled from Berlin and thus still waiting on them to do normal. I live in Lagos so would have to courier. My knives and axes are grinded and sharpened for anyone that will yarn me any story that touch.

to think of it, I think I remember you from the Canadian thread roundtable last year.

will pay the 95k500 immediately I receive the admission, scan and attach the receipt to the appointment request email. after they list their requirements, I will fill the online visa form. print, add other ancillary docs and courier.

U don't need to scan ur receipt , take along when you r going for d interview , you only need to scan d admission letter
Don't mind me I stay in Lagos too but gt a family here in Abj , so I came to submit then wait till my interview.....

o cool. how long does it take them respond with a confirmed appointment date. wanna get all my ducks in a row in preparation for when admission is confirmed next month. I have barely 6 weeks between receiving admission and resuming in Finland.

I surprise plenty say these guys want me to post all my original academic docs ( my blood sweat and tears) via courier. the thought of that is making my chest do gbigim gbigim.

Abt d courier, don't worry your document will be intact although I came to the embassy to drop d document my self not because of d safety oooo but because am doing aroro

I went for d interview yesterday and I got decision too yesterday...
That was super fast ? I was surprised too...
I did not submit my SOA and did not use any sponsor ..
I was asked some question regarding finland , please study d map if you are yet to do that..

in my opinion, i feel it would be safer for you to provide the balance from the €6200 u are getting for 10 months, migri asks for a year worth of funds which amounts to €6720. All you need do is show you have €520 for the two months UEF wont be paying you for. better to be safe than sorry.

yea, i know... i just want to be careful cos am yet to get a sponsor, my problem is d sponsor ish cos i dont want something dat will bring complications.actually the 620 will be paid for 11 month out of 12 month...10 month makes a session then a month holiday which d stipend will not be paid.after the one month hols is the next session...620*11 is more dan 6750...as someone said earlier that those people can be funny thou..i will keep on trying if i can get a sponsor cos i will have to send my doc to them next week

Dont panic. The appointment email has been like that. Your stipend from UEF should cover it and I see no reason why u should include sponsor dox. Their maybe transactions that will not be clear in his dox that may raise a red flag. Migri on many occasions have granted RP to people with less money to 6720. So 6000 euros u said is ok

yea i dont think i will use any sponsor again//at least the stipend is 620 per month while migri standard is 560.
i spoke with my course cordinator, she said she hav sent our info to finnish immigration office(finland) that i should let her know if i have any problem concerning the rp

the problem now is that the owner of the goods will bribe them with huge sum of money. they will release the goods.. and it will still fall back on we d consumer(awa la ma fo ri ko), cos her capital now will be 37m + bribe..

is like dey will be strict dis year cos the tune of deir email is somehow. they capitalized on no rescheduling of appointment due to too many applicant and limited time
BTW how much is 6720 euro in Naira, cos my scholarship is 6200 euro per session, each session comprises of 10months..so am thinking of dropping the remaining 520 euro in my account in order to avoid story

Imagine Nigerian government officials making visa approvals difficult to citizens from western countries such as USA, Canada, Germany, France etc. So why don't we blame our government officials first before blaming Donald Trump. Imagine Nigeria government issuing a year visa to US Citizens,while they issue us 2 years! rubbish! pls put me in the visa issuing position and you will see me issuing hundreds of visas to these western people everyday. why? of course the answer is simple. They will liberate us!

I got to know recently that a foreigner needs a visa to come to Nigeria.. All my life I thought there are no immigration rule guiding entry to Nigeria cos why will a foreigner go through stress to come visit Nigeria when there s nothing fascinating abt her.
Abeg can someone brief me on the rules that guide a foreigner to obtain PR card or citizenship in Nigeria.

@larrygal... just make sure your account isn't empty. A few hundred thousands will suffice. Like you said having at least 575 euros won't be a bad idea.

No need for that since you got funding from UEF. The funding i guess is more than 6720 euros. So when filling the form at www.migri.fi you will see a tab for source of funding. Click on the radio button for scholarship. Scan d scholarship letter. That should do

None of the above. The embassy has already done that. I think the RP money is 97,500 or thereabout. Check the finish website in Nigeria and u will get a clear picture and where u will pay d money and account number

I doubt u can pay online. Just visit any stanbic bank and make d payment. Go to the embassy with a teller copy. Remember to put the teller copy in ur package while sending to d embassy. My dear I tampered with the funds in my account and on that I was declined

I know you can make some deductions from my post, but how you were so certain I'm done is what surprised me... Many people don't know I'm done self...

Anyways, the fact is that they generally don't know how (or don't want) to teach here you have to learn everything you'll learn from the scratch by yourself (most times). I'm not talking about spoon-feeding (I hate it personally) but there are some basic things that need to be taught especially in some advanced courses... Anyways it not easy... If you have time on your side you can develop several skills; the system is good... Somewhat of self-paced learning

I have Doctoral funding with my prof. already, though I'm still considering other options... (lips sealed).
