Chai! At this critical time that PMB needs all available resources and funds. Total must pay through its nose, no stories. We are too docile in this country. The BP oil spill in US cost BP about 40billion dollars, and compensation and clean up work took the bulk of the money.

But in Nigeria, the oil company will just spray some little cash into the face of Ministry officials, Honourable looters, distinguished Senate thieves and some community boys that can cause gbegi. And the whole thing will must mellow down.

Then years after, everybody will be singing that the environment in the Niger Delta area is messed up, whereas, the community boys and chiefs were the ones that took egunje instead of ensuring that the right thing was done.

Oil spill: Total shuts production from Obagi field

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/oil-spill-total-shuts-production-from-obagi-field-2/

LAGOS — Another oil spill has occurred in oil rich Niger Delta, as Total E&P Nigeria Ltd, TEPNG, said it has stopped expedition of crude on its Obagi-Rumuekpe 12 Oil Export Pipeline in Rivers State.

The company suspects the spill was caused by pipeline sabotage, thereby resulting into an undisclosed amount of oil spill.
This will be the second time in a matter of months that the pipeline will be attacked, the first being in May this year.

The Obagi field produces about 35,000 barrels of oil equivalent and 6 million cubic metres (212 million cubic feet) of natural gas per day.
However, it is uncertain how much production has been shut in from the field due to the line break, as the company is yet to gain access into the area reputed for its high security volatility.

A statement from Total, yesterday, read in part: “The volume of oil spilled and area of impact have not been estimated in view of the highly volatile nature of the area and the security concerns,” adding that the relevant authorities have been informed.

Total also said in the statement that the spill was discovered “during crude oil expedition operation on August 16, 2015, an abnormal situation was observed as the oil expedited from Obagi was not received at Rumuekpe metering station. Expedition was immediately stopped and a helicopter over-flight was carried out, which revealed oil spill and fresh excavations on the pipeline Right Of Way.”

Oil spill is a recurring incidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas operations, which operators insist are often caused by sabotage, even as environment activists claim they result mostly from poor pipelines integrity due to old age.

But whether by weak lines or sabotage, oil spills are described as the most difficult environmental disaster to remediate. This is in addition to the loss of livelihood of the locals, who are mostly farmers and attendant health hazards, a development that calls for increased monitoring of the pipelines to ensure their safety.

The Obagi field is located in Oil Mining Lease, OML 58, in which Total E&P is the operator with a 40% interest, alongside the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC with 60%.

Politics / Re: DSS Officials Barred From ‘close Protection’ Of Buhari by LasgidyPort: 3:55am On Jun 26, 2015
The DSS really messed up during the elections. Their open display of partisanship tilted in favour of GEJ and the PDP during the elections was highly unprofessional and a national embarrassment.

I wonder why we cant have balanced institutions in Nigeria that can be strong, neutral and impartial to both the govt of the day and also play fair to those not in govt.

Why cant they stick to their rules and follow it maturely without rubbishing themselves. It is the same way NTA has turned to the joke of the century instead of competing with the likes of BBC.

I think the issue is just that majority of Nigerians are hypocrites who wants to please the Oga at the top at all cost just to get some benefits. And in extension, it is also caused by greed and lack of contentment with what legitimately comes to you. If one is contented with what legitimately comes to him/her, they wont bother going the extra mile and thus polluting their professional conduct to please the Oga at the top just because of some extra benefits and crumbs.

I sincerely hope PMB will grant govt institutions greater autonomy and independence, and create the foundation for them to have a shield from undue political interference.

.... the governor is right to come at 3am to demolish the structure and excavate all your ancestors earlier buried??

GEJ himself knows he has no case. He lost squarely. The margin would have been higher sef, save manipulations in Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Delta.

I'm happy he, GEJ finally freed himself from deceivers. A lot of these deceivers are still brewing with hate and of the opinion that he should fight till the end. But GEJ has seen it all and he just wants to free himself and get some good rest and some element of a good name even at this tale end of his administration.

Congrats to Rochas/APC. smiley

Rochas pls consolidate on your achievements, and ensure u carry your people along. If u re able to this, then greater responsibility awaits u in Nigeria.

May God help u and give u the wisdom to be a very good leader.

Also, pls tell some of your people to forget the ills of the civil war and some alleged marginalisation in times past and move ahead in forgiveness. That they should join hands with other tribes in moving Nigeria forward, it will be to the benefit of everyone eventually.

Best wishes and regards cool

Was law and order implored in the qualification of Buhari to contest the general election? were the issues surrounding his WASC resolved according to the law? Anything that involves GEJ some of you develop instant wrath without caring to make your search.

Buhari is well qualified to contest. If u think otherwise, then go the legal way in establishing this fact. A nos of people earlier went to court for this same issue. Nobody put a gun on their head for them to withdraw their spurious case.

If they indeed have a valid case, then let them follow it to a logical conclusion.

Buhari has a statement of result copied from a supposed result broadsheet. A copy of the results sheet itself was also given to him. This is because he claimed his certificate is not where he thought it was.

Anyone that is of the opinion that the result is fake can file a case at the law court. It is very easy. The court during the proceedings can then subpoenaed Cambridge to produce a certified true copy in court.

Keep your silly advice to yourself. what is the big fuss about the sacking of abba? He that hires also has the power to fire. If buhari likes let him make shekau a member of his cabinet, let him even make major mustapha his ADC, all the miracles he said he will make when he comes to power, the whole world is watching.

Shut up pls! The president has the power to hire and fire according to the laid down law, everybody knows that. But it has to be according to the laid down rule! It is this kind of impunity encouraged and supported by some ignorant people that has not made this country to progress beyond this.

Nigerians don't like following law and order. And it is even more pathetic that they will still be encouraging their leaders to do same.

Look up the meaning of 'hypocrisy' in the dictionary.

The onus is on the 'alleger' to prove beyond reasonable doubt that GMB indeed is not qualified to run for office. That is the position of majority of Buhari fans. It is not by giving countless press conferences and embarrassing the man in the media. Nobody disturbed them from taking the appropriate position according to law. Now that majority of them are withdrawing their fraudulent cases, did anyone put a gun on their head??

There continues the impunity of the Jona regime. This same impunity caused him to fail to convince a lot of Nigerians to reelect him. From impunity in:

-sacking a chief of army staff when he went to represent Nigeria at an international engagement (cowardly way of sacking).

-sacking the CBN gov in an unconstitutional way when he was out of the country representing Nigeria at an international engagement (cowardly way of sacking).

-encouraging and supporting minority to upstage majority in Rivers assembly.

-encouraging division in the Nigeria Gov's forum just because your preferred candidate lost a free and fair election.

-encouraging and supporting the embarrassment of the Speaker of the House of Reps, the House in general and the entire Nigerian people in an unconstitutional way just because he decamped from your party with a valid legal basis (this particular one was a big assault on Nigeria's democracy).

-encouraging and supporting unnecessary impeachment proceedings in Adamawa and Nasarawa because of personal grouse with the govs. That of Nasarawa failed and almost threw the state into chaos. That of Adamawa succeeded and looks very likely to be upturned by the courts and thus creating additional confusion and waste of funds.

- encouraging minority (7) to send majority (19) packing from the Ekiti state house of assembly. I am very sure if GEJ calls for just 1 meeting with all the members of the EKITI house including Fayose and Ekiti APC leadership and mediate peace moves btw all parties as expected from the Father of the nation, it would have seriously calm nerves over there. But instead, he is encouraging Fayose to be dictatorial by sending the 19 APC lawmakers away and in effect heating up the state as if there is no other alternative way of resolving disputes.

GEJ has so many bills passed by the National Assembly not yet signed into law (some since 2012). Instead of him to busy himself in studying these bills and assenting those that merits assent before handover, thereby leaving a legacy for himself, he's being vindictive (another show of small mindedness).

Jona why are u trying to create more enemies for yourself before leaving? All the people u witch-hunted are taking strategic positions in the GMB govt. Why can't u just leave quietly. Now that u re soon going to become an ordinary citizen, it is in your interest to make peace with all sides and pursue it.

What if GMB comes on board and then reinstate Abba that his sack did not follow due process.

Will that not make u look silly? Are u aware that the police and others will still be responsible for your security as a former president and it is in your interest and that of your family to have a good rapport and relationship with that institution.

Why do u always prefer to act out of emotions instead of logically? A lot of think tanks are already of the opinion that u should have left Abba's fate in the hands of the incoming administration.

If u and your wife jam any of Dambazzau, Sylva, Nyako, SLS, Amaechi, Nyako, Berth Nnaji, or Abba at say an airport or at a function, will u not feel a pang of guilt at your earlier vindictive actions?

As u round up your administration, pls don't create additional enemies for yourself, use the remaining days to leave the legacy of a responsible peace-loving leader and a gentleman.

Abba’s sack illegal- Falana

http://thenationonlineng.net/new/falana-abbas-sack-illegal/

Lagos lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has condemned the sack of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba. He described Abba’s removal as “illegal and unconstitutional”.

“It is a contravention of sectin 216 (2) of the 1999 constitution, which states that ‘before removing the IG form office, the President shall consult the Nigeria Police Council’.

“Since the council, whose members include the 36 State Governors, was not consulted, Mr. Abba’s sack is null and void. It should be rescinded forthwith,” Falana said.
