Politics / Senator Abaribe Applies To Be Discharged As Nnamdi Kanu's Surety by LATESTNGNEWS: 5:13pm On Oct 17, 2017
Senator Abaribe is obviously under intense pressure to produce Nnamdi Kanu for his court hearing

Nnamdi Kanu was due to appear in court today but was no where near the court premises

The senator represnting Abia South, Senator Abaribe disclosed he had spoken with the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu before the military operations in Nnamdi Kanu's hometown.

One of the sureties for Nnamdi Kanu and senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has applied to be discharged as surety to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Abaribe filed the application in court on Tuesday.

Recall that Abaribe, prior to the raids by the military, said Kanu had always assured him that he would be in court at adjourned dates.

“He was supposed to appear in court on October 17. It was our job as sureties to produce him in court. We have been speaking with him”, Abaribe had said.

“I spoke with him around August 23. I had to invite him to meeting with the South-east Senate caucus in my home at Obingwa, in Abia.

“We discussed and we told him what we felt and where he was going out of bound and we told him to confine himself to the laws of the land.”

“Now, I spoke to him on September 11, and it was same day that the military moved into his place. Since then, nobody has seen him.”

Senator Abaribe is now in a state of dilemma as to the outcome of the court verdict as regards his application which might not not see the light of the day owing to the fact that he( Abaribe) knew the consequences of standing as a surety for someone in court.

It remains to be seen if Abaribe will get a reprive by having Nnamdi Kanu appear in court at a later date or face the consequences.

Politics / Diezani Finally Speaks Out Over $90 Billion Loot by LATESTNGNEWS: 11:03am On Aug 15, 2017
Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison Madueke has finally spoken on several allegations of financial impropriety levelled against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Diezani said she never stole Nigeria’s money.

The former Minister made the claim in a statement she issued yesterday.

She said the anti-graft agency was taking advantage of her silence to try and convict her in the media hence her response.

Recall that the EFCC had alleged that Diezani Alison-Madueke, a former minister of Petroleum Resources, by an order of a Federal High Court has forfeited $153.3 million to the Federal Government.

Diezani’s statement, which was made available to newsmen in Abuja, reads, “I wish to state I cannot forfeit what was never mine.

“I do not know the basis on which the EFCC has chosen to say that I am the owner of these funds as no evidence was provided to me before the order was obtained, and they have not, in fact, served me with the order or any evidence since they obtained it.”

“Let me re-state categorically as I have always maintained, for the record, I have not and will never steal money from or defraud the Federal Government of Nigeria. I am willing to respond to charges brought against me that follow duly laid down procedures,” she said.

The former Minister, Diezani dared the EFCC to without further delay, publish details of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC’s accounts from where the said $153.3 million was taken.

She also said that the report that Italian prosecutors indicted her for sharing in the loot of the $1.3 billion OPL 245 oil block deal, which involved Malabu and the Joint Venture Multinational partners, ENI (AGIP) and Royal Dutch was false.

She continued, “Let me once again state for the record that this is another figment of the author’s imagination, which, given the persistent bid to ensure my destruction and stick all of the sins of the corruption that plagued oil and gas sector in the last 30 years upon my head, probably emanated from the EFCC itself.

“Let me clear the history of OPL 245, otherwise known as Malabu. You will find a full chronology in the attached report that I made to the House of Representatives in late 2011 (Annex 2A/Annex-2B).

“In 2010, shortly after I was appointed as Minister of Petroleum Resources, the issue of OPL 245 was brought to my attention. I looked into the case and immediately became aware of the inherent and long standing sensitivities around this issue.

Diezani went on to say “It became clear from the onset that this case was not within the direct purview of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, but, in the main, was centered around issues of law.

“By this time, there was already an International Centre for Settlement of Investment Dispute (ICSID) investigation and claims against the FGN running into billions of dollars.

“Therefore, we took directives from the Chief Legal Officer of the nation; the Attorney General and Minister of Justice. In all of these matters due process was followed to the letter at all times.

“I wish to categorically state that I have never held any discussions on this matter, with any individuals or entities outside of official channels.

“As Minister of Petroleum Resources, I did not participate in any activity relating to financial payments on the Malabu matter, other than those statutorily mandated to the Minister of Petroleum Resources by the Petroleum Act.

“My role in this matter was purely a statutory, one as required by law in the Petroleum Act 3.

“In response, I have chosen not to insult, accuse or demonise any person or persons. In spite of all the allegations that have been made against me, not one has been factually proven.

“I remain very proud of the fact that all the policies, tenets and plans that I initiated in the oil and gas sector are still underpinning the entire structure. This is because they were put in place with the good of the entire nation and its people in mind.

“They were not factional or tribal, neither were they based on religious bias.

“I am a woman from the Niger Delta, who, through perseverance and sheer hard work rose to one of the highest positions in the country’s premier International Oil Company, and in tune with my ethos of hard work, I earned the prestigious British Foreign and Commonwealth Chevening Scholarship Award and was, thereafter, admitted to my MBA programme at the World renowned Cambridge University,” she said.

Politics / Biafra: IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu, Discloses Who Will Take Over In Anambra by LATESTNGNEWS: 2:45pm On Aug 11, 2017
Leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has said the Speaker of the House of Assembly will take over on the interim in Anambra State if the coming election fails to hold.

IPOB leader was in Onitsha, Anambra state yesterday to further educate members of his group on the need to boycott the forthcoming November 7 governorship election.

According to Nnamdi Kanu, the emancipation and redemption of the “people of Biafra” would come when they boycott the November 18th governorship election in Anambra state.

Kanu said, “We brought the gospel of the restoration of the kingdom of Heaven, which is Biafra and the emancipation and redemption of our people, which comes by the boycott of November 18 governorship election.

“The boycott will not attract any vacuum or state of emergency because the constitution provides for replacement of the governor in case of death, vacation or whatever circumstance that may have led to not producing the governor or deputy.

“In other words, the constitution provides that the speaker of the House of Assembly will take over government on the interim basis and that is going to happen in Anambra State.

“The people of Anambra must boycott the governorship election and further elections, for Biafra to come, until we get the date for a referendum.”

Crime / Ozubulu Massacre: Traditional Ruler Reveals Real Foundation Of Massacre by LATESTNGNEWS: 1:33pm On Aug 11, 2017
The traditional of Ozubulu, Igwe Nnamdi Oruche, has revealed how the problem in the town, which consumed scores of people started.

NGDAY.com had reported that a gunman had on August 6 attacked St Philip’s Catholic Church, Ozubulu in Anambra State, killing several worshipers.

The royal father recalled that the problem in his domain started about 10 years ago when Ozubulu Development Union, ODU, which has a branch in South Africa, wanted to elect a new president-general there.

Recalling the genesis of the mayhem, Igwe Oruche said, “This created a major disagreement over who would be their leader in that country and it eventually tore them apart.

“But the overall President General both in Ozubulu and in Diaspora, Norbert Anigbogu, intervened by inviting the two factions back home for a peaceful resolution of the problem.

“When they returned, a traditional oath was prepared for them to take in order to enthrone brotherliness among them and to further quell the rift between the factions, but most of them refused to take the oath on the basis that they are Christians.

“At that point, an alternative was made and a Catholic priest, Rev. Father Chidolue was invited to perform the Christian aspect of oath-taking, which was done and everyone appreciated it.

“But later, the conflict was rekindled by some of them who reneged on the agreement made during the oath-taking, alleging that since I, the traditional ruler, was not present during the exercise, the reconciliation was null, void and improper.”

The royal father of Ozubulu town called on the state and Federal Governments to assist the community in tracking the killer squad and bring them to book, promising that the people of the community would not rest on their oars until the needful was done.

“We have an old culture, so our traditional deities will bring them out when the rituals are done by us at the appropriate time,” Igwe Oruche said.

Politics / Elections In Nigeria Are Just For Ceremonial Purposes- Prof Utomi by LATESTNGNEWS: 11:36am On Aug 11, 2017
Pat Utomi stated that the power brokers who he referred to as the ‘class of capture’, have inflicted an anti-intellectual culture on Nigeria. He grouped these individuals into three distinct categories, explaining how each group operates and holds the country back.

Utomi bashed the National Assembly as being one of the nation’s greatest problems as he called on Nigeria to emulate Singapore, which is led by the brightest minds.

Professor Pat Utomi, a prominent political economist, has stated that for the past 51 years, Nigeria’s fortunes have been determined by less than 60 people, Punch reports. NGDAY.com gathers that Utomi made his comments while speaking at a public lecture organised by the Evangelical Christian Union Alumni Fellowship in Lagos, on Thursday, August 10.

According to Utomi, elections in Nigeria are just for ceremonial purposes, as the country is actually controlled by a few power brokers whom he referred to as the “club of capture”.

In his speech titled ‘Healing a bleeding nation,’ the economist attributed the nation’s problems to these individuals, as he addressed the causes of the nation’s lack of development and institutional failures.

He stated: “Today’s politicians are mentally ill-equipped. The late Chief Obafemi Awolowo was surrounded by intellectuals and professors. These days, the opposite is the case. Pimps accompany our politicians. "This ‘class of capture’ has inflicted an anti-intellectual culture on the country.”

Utomi warned the nation’s leaders that if they do not diversify, the country would soon run aground, as oil would soon become obsolete.

He stated further: “The club of capture can be grouped into three categories. “The first is the moderniser wannabes. The value system of this category sabotaged their desire. “The second are the narcissistic influencers, who are so consumed by their self-love. These people are contented with whoever is in power so far they can appoint the oil minister and others. “The last are the entitlement-minded ones. Nigeria has become the entitlement of the last category. “When those in the club of capture lose legitimacy, they look for ways to circumnavigate.

“They look for weak persons to push into positions of authorities so they don’t lose their grip on power. “Nigeria has suffered from power capture for 51 years. Less than 60 persons have been deciding our fortunes for the past 51 years.

“When President Muhammadu Buhari travelled abroad for medical vacation, they (club of capture) gathered people together to decide who would be president and vice-president. “There has never really been an election in Nigeria. But there is hope for Nigeria.” Utomi called for the nation to imitate Singapore which is led by only the brightest minds, and also stated that Nigeria’s National Assembly is one of the biggest problems for the nation’s democracy.

Crime / Shocking Revelation By An Eye Witness Over At The Ozubulu Massacre by LATESTNGNEWS: 10:18am On Aug 07, 2017
First Hand Information On What Happened At Anambra State Today, As Ejike Ofoegbu Arrived Anambra From Aba
Please over look the police report, Ejike Ofoegbu said
Loveth Gift narrated
"We all were in the church during the 6am morning mass today, we saw two cars that drove into the church; because it was a Church premises we over looked it and we considered them to be people that came for morning mass(service). But to the surprise of everyone, the car halted at the center of the gate, meaning you cannot close the gate, since it is open already.
"The driver came out of the car pretending he was fixing a problem; so everyone still ignored the drama happening outside the premises.
"Suddenly, some men came out from the car, fully armed, all in Army uniform. I was lucky because I was sitting at the back, just beside the door, but I was clearly seeing what was happening. The sky was cloudy and everywhere seemed dark; no one saw what they were carrying, whether it was gun, but surely they were fully equipped.
"They immediately rushed to the front door. I was too lucky to jump the fence, but before I had jumped, I heard gun shot everywhere in the building. They obstructed the front gate, because for women that is their only route to escape. That was why women were killed more than men. Children were killed as well, many were seriously injured.
"After I had escaped, I started making calls to link my church members who were in the church, but they were not picking up; not knowing they were dead already.
The gun men were not igbos, because their language were not igbo, the government should stop lying, I heard they said That, they gun Men were flashing touch light on us, but it a lie, because the whole church was so lighted that even from outside you will see who is inside. Even at that, if they were really flashing touch light to know who is their target, those that were killed, are they their target.
Like I said before and I will say it again, I was at the back door, I saw all that happened, they were with Army uniform, face covered, standing at the Front door, holding their trigger, and shooting at anything that moves.
When the police came, I was waiting for them to ask questions of what happened, so that I will explain, but they were busy taking pictures of the dead ones, without knowing the fact
"Not too long after they had gone, I went back to the church. I was shocked with what I saw; my Mother was lying dead! Many people were unconscious but later succumbed to death.
"After about one hour of the killings, the Police arrived the church. Two hours later, the Governor, Willie Obiano arrived too. Everyone was shocked, wandering how the perpetrators stormed in Army uniform. Questions began to arise: "Who gave them the Army uniform?" Who gave them the Army car?"
Surely jihad is here, and everyone have to defend him/her self.
A woman who still survived the mayhem said, "All I could remember is that I was sitting at the front when some people in Army uniform invaded the Church and started shooting at everyone. They just held the trigger and fired at everyone they sighted. I managed to hide under the seat but was shot in the leg.
"A boy was shot in head, his brain bursted, and blood spilled everywhere - even at my face."

Politics / Nigeria Has Not Really Made Progress In The Past Two Years- Sen Ben Bruce by LATESTNGNEWS: 4:40pm On Aug 05, 2017
Though no specific date has been officially given for President Muhammadu Buhari’s return, there are speculations that he may be back to the country by next week. Senator Ben Murray-Bruce gave hints that there may be a possible high powered meeting between the Senate and Buhari when he returns to the country.

According to him, they need to speak with the president about all the issues plaguing the nation. The Senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce, has hinted that President Muhammadu Buhari might be returning to the country anytime next week.

Recall that Buhari left the country on May 7 for a follow-up on his medical consultations in London. He has been away for close to three months and Yemi Osinbajo has been playing the role of acting president. In an interview with Vanguard on Friday, August 4, Senator Bruce hinted that there might likely be a high-powered meeting between the Senate and Buhari upon his return.

Bruce said he would ask the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, that they sit down with Buhari and discuss all the issues affecting the country and he hopes his request will be granted. The senator said the issues they would discuss with the president would be all encompassing. He lamented about the hardship in the country saying Nigeria had not really made any kind of progress in the last two years.

Bruce said: “Nigeria has not really made any progress in the last 2 years. I think we are in big trouble right now. When the President gets back, we would need to sit down with him and have a conversation. There is no point having a conversation with anybody who is not a president. “I am thinking the Senate. We will have a conversation.

A bipartisan team will go and meet with Mr. President and have a conversation with him. Not APC senators meeting the president but the Senate meeting him and have a conversation on the future of Nigeria. That’s what I am gonna propose. That we sit down with him and discuss the issues. He’s the president and you can’t change that and I respect constitutional authority. He is the President of Nigeria and we will sit down with him and discuss the problems facing the country.

In 2019 when there is another president, that will be another issue. But right now, he is the president and we need to sit down with him and discuss the issues. I understand he will be here next week.” Speaking about the educational sector, he said previous administrations did a lousy job, wondering why they have not changed the educational policy set up by the colonial masters. He said Nigeria’s educational policy is 1942 policy.

Politics / Breaking: Police Dismisses Officers Involved In Burgling Jonathan's Residence by LATESTNGNEWS: 10:35pm On Aug 03, 2017
Some Police officers accused of burgling an Abuja residence of the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan have been sacked following an orderly room trial. The dismissal of the officers has been approved by the commissioner of police FCT command Musa Kimo.

The police say the alleged mastermind of the burglary, Sgt Musa Musa will be charged to court for prosecution. Some police officers who were arrested for allegedly burgling an Abuja residence of ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan, have been dismissed from the service by the Nigerian Police Force.

NGDAY.com had reported that some officers who guarded the home of the former president were arrested after it was discovered that the home located at located at No. 89, Fourth Avenue in the Gwarimpa district of Abuja was burgled. The officers were accused of stealing items valued at several millions of naira from the home of the former president and selling them to traders at the Pankera second-hand market in Gwarimpa, Abuja.

Vanguard reports that the Abuja police command which announced the dismissal of the officers on Thursday, August 3, stated that their dismissal was approved by the commissioner of police FCT, CP Musa Kimo psc, following the out-come of an orderly room proceeding.

The name of the dismissed officers was given as:
1. F/No. 436691 Sgt Musa Musa
2. F/No. 235422 Sgt John Nanpak
3. F/No. 261898 Sgt Ogah Audu
4. F/No. 425210 Sgt Gabriel Ugah

The release by the force explained that the names of two other officers, AP/No.141199 Inspr Lengs Satlakau and AP/No. 150566 Inspr Usman Wuduki have been sent to AIG Zone 7 for further action.

The FCT police command stated that Sgt Musa Musa who allegedly spearheaded the burglary will will be charged to court for prosecution. It also stated that steps have been put in place to apprehend his collaborator, one Mallam Shuaibu, who is presently on the run.

The command noted that the punitive action taken against the officers was in line with the resolve of the police boss, IGP Ibrahim Idris to do away with undisciplined officers who were giving the police a bad name. Though cases of burglary are common in Nigeria, there has never been such a reported case of law enforcement officers being invoked in the act.

The alleged burglary of the former president’s home has done more harm to the image of the Nigeria Police which has been dealing with image problems for a long time. Added to its perennial problem of being underfunded, the police have also had to deal with rampart cases of alleged corruption and other vices among officers. Though several efforts have been put in place to make the Nigerian police a force to reckon with, such efforts have failed to yield beneficial results.

Celebrities / America Is Ruled By A slowpoke- Top Actress Lambasts Trump by LATESTNGNEWS: 2:24pm On Aug 03, 2017
Top actress Georgina Onuoha has called out the President of United States of America (USA) Donald Trump! The star who is based in the US seems really pained about the happening as she claims that Donald Trump has a specialty in getting married to 'b*mbos'. She also stated none of the president't wives have a skill or formal education of any sort.

God save this country from the hands of this slowpoke. Actress Georgina Onuoha comes for Donald Trump Actress Georgina Onuoha.

Read her post below: Isn't it so funny, insensitive and insulting that a man whose specialty is to go marry "b*mbos" from East Europe that claim to be models, that can't speak English nor right it insulting immigrants. None of his three wives had any skill or formal education, Melania claimed to have graduated from college and when journalist swamped her so called college, those claims were dropped and removed from her page and Wikipedia page.

Yet America gave them a chance, they assimilated and thrived like every other immigrant that came to this country. To hear this man utter some of his ill conceive ideas about legal migration, makes me cringe. His own parents were from Germany/Scotland yet his disdain for immigrants is sickening. This is a cheap billionaire that will rather hire foreign workers than pay Americans full wages.

How many White Americans will you see on the fields picking berries? None, because they will rather wait tables and get tips and better still meet rich men. How many white Americans will you see in any hotel cleaning rooms? None.. they will rather be yatties? How many white Americans will you see working as CNA's in skilled nursing facilities? None.. they will rather go work in night clubs ? Yet this man thinks all immigrants are lazy!! And are a burden on the system? His ignorance is Laughable.

Indians, Nigerian and Asians make up the highest number of doctors and nurses in this country working effectively and efficiently. It is Laughable to think that immigrants are taking jobs from white Americans,?really? You can't just get out of high school, refuse to go to college , marry at 17 and then expect to be a doctor or rich person.

With all said, I have worked with white Americans who take pride in their professional skills, pursue white collar jobs and are tolerant to immigrants. These migrants come to America, go to school, learn English, work hard and move up the ladder to the middle class. It is insulting to listen to this man's stupidity at times. Why this man is bent of politics of identity still beats my imagination meanwhile he is the cheapest importer of foreign wives that he will treat as trophies and discharge whenever he pleases.

Isn't it so funny, insensitive and insulting that a man whose speciality is to go marry "bimbos" from East Europe that claim to be models, that can't speak English nor right it insulting immigrants. This is a cheap billionaire that will rather hire foreign workers than pay Americans full wages.. How many White Americans will you see on the fields picking berries? None, because they will rather wait tables and get tips and better still meet rich men. How many white Americans will you see in any hotel cleaning rooms? None.. they will rather be yatties? Politics / University Lecturer Reveals Those Behind Boko Haram Resurgence by LATESTNGNEWS: 1:28pm On Aug 03, 2017
Anthony Kolawole, a University lecturer from Keffi, Nasarawa state analysis the recent activities of the Boko Haram terrorists in the North-East. He suggests that the renewed attacks by the group especially in Borno state can be attributed to the desperate need by corrupt elites and politicians to destabilize the state and region for the personal gains.

We cannot refrain from analyzing the counter-insurgency campaigns in Nigeria in the last two years under President Muhammadu Buhari. We cannot cast away a conscience overshadowed by the irrepressible inner voice which echoes a quenched, but gradually resurrecting tempo of Boko Haram terrorism only in some parts of Borno State. It is a plaque yet to completely desert Borno in Nigeria’s Northeast and it is quite worrisome, to say the least.

Unfortunately, some Nigerians have failed to properly equip themselves to discern the recurrent suiciide bomb blasts in just parts of Borno state. This mindset is probably and sadly informed by partisanship and malice; the natural cynicism in us as a people to accept when others have done well.

Only very few Nigerians have devoted time to dig deep to comprehend the subsisting images of insurgency in Borno. But one does not need to scratch too far to understand and appreciate the reality of why only Borno has remained in the grip of suiciide bomb attacks and abductions in today’s Nigeria.

This is particularly in contrast with the quietness about Boko Haram Terrorism (BHT) in virtually every other locality the incensed devils held captive in the country but have been liberated in the last two years. Nonetheless, I wish to state the often repeated and perceptible tradition of the present wave of insurgency in that part of the country. Anytime a bomb explosion or abduction occurs, it is easier to blame it on the factional leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, the insurgency kingpin known to us.

But many of us are unwilling to scratch beyond the veneer to unearth the reasons Boko Haram insurgency has refused to loosen its hold on the state. When we make such confused or blind conclusions, those who are masterminding the latest incidents of suiciide bomb blasts are convinced of their veiled protection and ennobled to sponsor the perpetration of more atrocities. They take an undue advantage of a society lost in its own peculiarly relaxed tendencies over what affects it.

But I am sufficiently prodded to say those who detonate bombs now in Borno are not necessarily members of the dreaded Islamic Boko Haram sect. The real and dreaded Boko Haram insurgents in Nigeria have been defeated by the Nigerian military. There is no doubt about this and no one can take us back to Egypt anymore.

The Nigerian people and members of the international community must be bemused and deems it incredible when they hear preachments about the non-defeat of Boko Haram terrorism from the same group of perilous Nigerians who are promoting snippets of terrorism in Borno state. But even the frequency, inactive and lifelessness manner of the operations of the suiicide bombers in that state now indicates a remarkable difference.

It is quite different from what was tenable before May 2015. We should ask ourselves critical questions, as poetically reflected by Senegalese Poet, David Diop about “Time Then and Time Now.” Before President Muhammadu Buhari ascended the throne as leader of Nigeria, Boko Haram insurgents assailed most parts of Nigeria. No one can pinpoint to such evidence at the moment. For me, much like others, I dare say, that the Nigerian military battled insurgency to a standstill, decimated and defeated Boko Haram terrorism by the collapse of Sambisa forest is stale news.

Terrorism was everywhere in Nigeria. It seized the three states of Adamawa, Yobe and Borno in Nigeria’s Northeast. It was in Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau, Kogi, Kano, Kaduna and begun to stray into Southern Nigeria in places like Lagos and Osun states. The compendium of cities in Nigeria under the yoke of Boko Haram also included Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) which witnessed daily bomb blasts. Some of us are privileged living witnesses of the public anxiety or phobia of insecurity, which palpably gripped Nigerians everywhere.

It aggravated to the extent some Nigerians living and working in Abuja asked for official transfers from their offices in Abuja and relocated to states they considered safer because of the fear of what others comically referred to as “the fear of Uncle Boko,” meaning Boko Haram insurgents. The military have been able to extinguish the force of BHTs and even in the three most affected states in the Northeast, respite came and normalcy returned, including a bustling nightlife in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

Unfortunately, there are attempt to revise the gains that the Nigerian troops made in the counter-insurgency war by a few disgruntled elements better to be regarded as Borno Haram. And people are unprepared to trace why, how and who is responsible? Meanwhile, the biggest unanswered question is why has terrorism refused to free Borno from its jaws? Can Nigerians find out why terrorism has been railroaded into oblivion and bombs have stopped blasting elsewhere, including Abuja and even in Yobe State, Borno’s neighbour? If these other parts of Nigeria have been rescued from terrorism, Borno has no reason to be trapped in the claws of insurgency.

The state has received the greatest attention from the Federal Government and its troops. There is an intimidating presence of soldiers on streets and communities in Borno. The Nigerian Military is building public amenities, infrastructures and establishing its institutions in the state, like the first Army University in Nigeria located in Biu local government. The Theatre Command Headquarters is in Borno and it has several battalions scattered everywhere under its watch.

Therefore, I do not share the porous view that all these efforts by the Nigerian military has not tamed Boko Haram insurgency in the state and Shekau’s foot soldiers are still tormenting the people, as deceptively projected. It is certainly untrue. I am more at home with the hypothesis that some corrupt elite and politicians in Borno state are those who have allegedly invented another version of terrorism as manifest in the splashes of bomb blasts in the state. It is business for both the sponsors and the attackers used for the game.

The suspected sponsors, who are some dubious personalities in the corridors of power in Borno state want terrorism to keep thriving in order to find justification to access and pilfer local government funds in the guise of security spending.

Fingers are pointing at the Chairman of Magumeri Local Government Chairman, Abdulkarim Bukar as one who pays ransoms and insurance fee to Boko Haram to carry out their atrocious activities. This is because they hate a semblance of the end of terrorism because insecurity provides the fertile excuse of executing no capital projects, while both monthly federal allocations and IGR develop wings into private pockets, without anyone raising an eyebrow.

Part of the looted funds is also used to sumptuously fund the foot soldiers who have continued to abduct, plant and blast bombs in parts of the state to create the impression of the festering of Boko Haram Terrorism. This clan of dubious persons in the corridors of power tutor their errand “boys” on where and who to attack with the explosives. My visit to Kwajafa in the wake of Boko Haram atrocities after it was recovered by the military shows that Boko Haram has eyes as a few houses were destroyed and some left untouched. But an axiom says, whatever has a beginning surely has an end. We least expected that the rest of Nigeria will enjoy peace and respite from terrorism.

But the Nigerian military in the counter-insurgency war have restored both to us on a platter of gold. The dubious elements hiding under the shadows of terrorism to loot us and claim it is Abubakar Shekau would soon have no place to hide anymore, as they would be unmasked and exposed. Be it known that the splashes of bomb blasts are signs of Boko Haram terrorism, but the masterminds are not of the Boko Haram stuff. It is akin to the Biblical narrative of the Esau and Jacob, the sons of Isaac. We feel the hand of Esau but the voice certainly is Jacob's.

The arrest of Shekau is near and the recent activities of his group to intimidate the new leadership of Operation Lafiya Dole under the leadership of General Attahiru is better understood as a desperate panic measure by a man whose end is near. And this is feasible. And once Shekau is hooked, I ponder who else the dubious politicians would blame or use as cover for the bomb blasts they are sponsoring to explode in Borno, just because they scheme to find a convincing excuse to continue to exploit and loot the people. It is a matter of days for us to know who is Boko or Borno Haram.

Politics / You Should Be Arrested For Terrorism, lagos Isnt Safe For You-yoruba Group Warns by LATESTNGNEWS: 11:42pm On Aug 02, 2017
The Yoruba Youth Congress (YYC) and the Coalition of Southwest Youths group have said the safety of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is not guaranteed if he proceeds on his planned visit to Lagos.

The Yoruba Youth groups warned Nnamdi Kanu to stay clear of Lagos, saying the center of excellence was not part of the Biafran states.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has disclosed that Lagos is the next State the group and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, will visit in its current tour of various states in the country.

Chairman of the Coalition of Southwest youths group who doubles as the National President, Yoruba Youths Congress, Prince Dapo Adepoju gave the warning late Wednesday evening while speaking with newsmen in Akure, the state capital.

The group noted that as much as Kanu had freedom of movement within the country, it will not tolerate the violent procession that had greeted Kanu’s visit in the South-East.

The group said it was warning Nnamdi Kanu to stay clear Lagos state for the sake of millions of Igbo’s who have been living and doing business in Lagos even before his birth.

Prince Dapo said efforts of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other eminent yoruba leaders in making sure Lagos and indeed southwest states remained the most peaceful part of Nigeria cannot be truncated by Kanu.
He said “In as much as we are not saying Kanu cannot come to Lagos, But he should not bring his madness to Lagos; we urge him to limit his unreasonable violent procession to the southeast

“We want to warn Nnamdi Kanu for the sake of whatever he believes in and for the sake of millions of Igbos who have been living and doing business in Lagos even before his birth to stay clear of Lagos

“Efforts of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other eminent yoruba leaders in making sure Lagos and indeed southwest states remain the most peaceful part of Nigeria cannot be truncated by one boy called Kanu

“Again, we are calling on Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to order the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu

“Despite the fact that we were part of the youths who initially begged the Federal government for his release, but as it looks now, he’s provoking the youths.

“Every Nigerian knows that Kanu has flouted his bail conditions and with this, we are sure that Kanu’s safety is not guaranteed if he dares to disrupt the peace of innocent Lagos residents just like he’s doing in the southeast.

“We want to commend the Igbo leaders who are on the verge of finding lasting solution for the menace created by the terror (IPOB) group”, he said

Politics / I Was Forced By Security Officers To Buy Properties Belonging To Jonathan-trader by LATESTNGNEWS: 11:06pm On Aug 02, 2017
A trader, Ibrahim Bagobiri has revealed how he bought ex-president Goodluck Jonathan’s looted items. Jonathan’s Abuja residence was burgled by suspected police guards. Ibrahim said he was persuaded by a police officer to buy the items.

The Chairman of the Tipper Garage second-hand materials market, Ibrahim Bagobiri, has explained how he was persuaded to buy some items looted from an Abuja residence of former President Goodluck Jonathan and the reason he is on the run from the police.

NGDAY.com gathered that Ibrahim explained how he entered into business deal with one Sergeant Musa, a police officer. He said: “I know Sergeant Musa very well. He also knows me for over 12 years. I know him as a good police officer who frequents our markets.

“It all began in 2016, I think before the commencement of fasting period in that year. A young man approached me in the market and introduced himself as an errand boy sent to me by Sergeant Musa. “The young man came with six sets of clothes and told me that Musa said I should buy them so that he would take the money to him. I was surprised to hear that, because I had never done any transaction with him before then.

“I then quickly called his line and asked him. Musa spent time to convince me that those clothes were not stolen, but rather, they were given to them by their Oga (former President Jonathan). “When I insisted that I would not buy, he was angry with me that I was behaving as if I took him for a thief. He later gave the phone to a police inspector who described Mr. Jonathan’s house to me and said I should personally come and confirm the authenticity of their claims.

“It was after two days before they convinced me to buy those six sets of clothes. After I bought another few sets, they again invited me to the house and took me to a room where various items in large quantity were stored. Asked whether he bought from that large quantity, Ibrahim said that: “Before we entered, that police Inspector told me that they were going to take me to a particular room where they stored a large quantity of various goods. “The goods, according to them were all distributed to them by Jonathan after they lost the 2015 Presidential election.

“Immediately I entered into the room, I faced a portrait of Mr. Jonathan, neatly placed on the wall. The nature of the room and the mere look of that quantity of items made me to come to term with reality that they were not the kind of items that would be given to mere security men. “When they observed how I was shocked, they said I shouldn’t be afraid. But I looked into their faces and said, ‘Musa, even if I will become the richest man in Nigeria through the proceeds of these items, I will not buy them. That is how far my closeness with Musa went.

From that time, he began to look for other buyers. He affirmed that some of the items were sold in his market, Tipper Garage, adding that, “when I stopped buying from those security men, they then went round and sourced for another buyer. But when I warned all our members that they should be wary and stop buying those items, they all stopped. That might have been the reason why such items were believed to have been sold at some other markets.

Giving reasons he didn’t take action when he suspected that those items could not just be mere gifts from Mr. Jonathan, Ibrahim said: “You don’t know me, that is why you asked me this question. You know if you are dealing with the police, especially at crucial or questionable circumstances like the one involving selling of such items, you have to be very careful and cautious.

“But let me tell you, I’m a man of integrity, no doubt about it. Even all the DPOs (divisional police officers) posted to Gwarimpa in the past 12 years can testify to this. We don’t buy stolen items in our Tipper Garage Market. We have a committee with a mandate to scrutinize any item brought to our market for sale, especially second-hand items.

“On numerous occasions, I personally handed suspected thieves together with the stolen items to the police at Gwarimpa Division. All those police men in the division are very much aware of how we assist them to catch suspected thieves who brought stolen items for sale.

He added that he disappeared not because he was afraid but said, “It is because of the shame attached to the purchase of stolen items, which I did unknowingly. Everyone knows me very well that part of our rule in that market is that for no reason anyone should buy stolen property. “If we discovered some items brought to us are stolen, we apprehend the suspect and handed him to the police. You can go to Gwarimpa Police Division and confirm this. I have learnt a great lesson in my life not to trust anyone from the surface.

Politics / Nnamdi Kanu Blasts Osibanjo Over Comments, Demands Withdrawal Of Charges by LATESTNGNEWS: 10:13pm On Aug 02, 2017
IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu has tackled Acting President Yemi Osinbajo over comments on Biafra. Osinbajo had said before the Igbo Council of Traditional Rulers that Biafarn agitation is unconstitutional but Kanu said Osinbajo’s comment on Biafra was faulty and misconceived.

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, on Wednesday August 2, tackled the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, for declaring the Biafran agitation as unconstitutional. Reports has it that Kanu, in a world press conference he held through his team of lawyers in Abuja, maintained that Osinbajo’s view about Biafra was “patently misconceived and inherently faulty”, despite his rank as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

NGDAY.com gathered that in a statement signed by his lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu, insisted that “extra judicial remarks” Osinbajo made before the Igbo Council of Traditional Rulers, in reference to Biafran agitation, was offensive to section 2 of the 1999 constitution, as amended.

The statement read in part: “We are presently drifting into the narrative that had hitherto kept our client in unlawful incarceration for 18 months, in clear breach of positive orders of court that directed for his unconditional release. “Unhealthy interference by the Executive Arm in the matter before the Court, vide pronouncements capable of putting fears in the court is a case in point.

“This is evident in the recent extra judicial remarks by the Acting President, clearly contained in his presentation before the Igbo Council of Traditional Rulers, that the agitation for Biafra is unconstitutional as it offends section 2 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, 2011, and consequent threat of arrest and imprisonment of those that exercise their unquestionable and inalienable rights to self-determination.

“This declaration is respectfully considered as not only provocative, and unacceptable, but a clear case of undue interference with judicial process, which have the capacity of distorting the mindset of the Judicial Officer seized of our client’s case. “It is important to remind the Acting President that our client’s present political trial originated from his legitimate exercise of his constitutionally guaranteed rights to self-determination as clearly provided for under extant laws, and international instruments/covenants.

“It is therefore reasonably expected that any of such extra judicial remarks, should not emanate from the revered office of the Acting President. “With due reverence to the Acting President, and his rank as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, we deem it obligatory to state the correct position of the law as it relates to his faulty position.

“We observed most respectfully that the learned silk made this remark in direct response to Quit Notice threats and ultimatum handed down to Igbos living in the Northern part of the counter, by a faceless and uninformed group, going by the name of Arewa Youths Consultative Forum. “But it must be noted very humbly that it is a mistake to equate the lawful and legitimate aspirations and agitations for Biafra with the lawful, illegal and illegitimate Quit Notice, and threat given to the Igbo People to leave the North by this group.

“We submit most humbly that the right to self-determination, recognizable under various instruments which Nigeria is a State Party is clearly provided for under Article 20(1) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) ( Act Cap 10) Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990.

“This law provides thus: Article 20 (1) ‘All Peoples shall have right to existence. They shall have the unquestionable and inalienable rights to self-determination. They shall freely determine their political status and shall pursue their economic and social development according to the policy they have freely chosen’.

“The above law has been in force in our jurisdiction since 1990 having been ratified vide Ratification and Enforcement Act, Laws of Federation. It is our respectful view that the declaration by the Acting President that Biafran agitation is unconstitutional, is with due respect patently misconceived and inherently faulty. “It is on this note that we most respectfully call on the Acting President to be more circumspect in his further remarks as it relates to a substantive charge before the court.

There is need for total restraint, from comments, pronouncements and declarations that have the effect of distorting the pendulum, one way or the other, particularly on this phantom criminal charge”. Besides, Ejiofor who briefed newsmen alongside counsel to Kanu’s co-defendants, Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu, David Nwawuisi and Bright Chimezie, accused the federal government of deliberately stalling frustrating full-blown hearing on the treasonable felony charge against the defendants.

According to him, rather than to open its case on June 22, FG, served an amended five-count charge on the defendants, “in clear breach and violation of an order the court made on April 25, 2017, wherein his Lordship warned, that the court will not entertain further interlocutory application or process capable of delaying the trial”.

He alleged that FG joined the 5th defendant, Chimezie, in the case after a Federal High Court in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State had on May 24, not only ordered the Department of State Service to release him forthwith, but equally directed that he should be paid N5million as damages for his illegal detention. Consequently, Kanu and his co-defendants, demanded an immediate withdrawal of the amended five-count charge against them, saying they have not committed any offence that is known to law.

Politics / Corruption: Amaechi Admitted Paying $39m For A Non-existent Hospital -wike Fumes by LATESTNGNEWS: 10:30pm On Jul 31, 2017
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo, Wike has declared that he has overwhelming evidence of corruption against the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Addressing the 106th Quarterly Meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt on Monday, Governor Wike said that Amaechi admitted paying $39million for a non-existent Justice Karibi Whyte Mega Specialist Hospital.

He added that the Minister of Transport confessed publicly that he sold the State’s Gas Turbines.

Governor Wike said: “All the documents that proved Amaechi’s corrupt acts are authentic. We never forged documents. The former governor himself admitted that he paid out $39million to Clinotech, without a single block laid anywhere. Is that a document he claims was forged. Where is the Hospital?

“He has agreed in different interviews that he sold the state gas turbines for $309million. Convert $309million United States dollars to naira and you will understand the level of fraud. Amaechi left only $204,000 in the state account.

“The bank statements of the pattern of withdrawals from that account are there for all to see. Can that be forged? The dates and amounts withdrawn are clearly written”.
The governor berated the Minister for engaging in the blackmail of the Supreme Court because his appeal is pending before the Apex Court over the establishment of the Rivers State Judicial Commission of Inquiry.

“There is no time that he loses a case without blackmailing the Judiciary. He feels that the only way he can do it is to blackmail the Supreme Court. You cannot play politics with everything “.

On the use of hotels for electoral fraud, the governor warned that any hotel that opens its facility for such illegal practice will lose its operational certificate of occupancy.

He said: “Any hotel that is used to rig elections, that hotel’s certificate of occupancy will be withdrawn”.

He further regretted Amaechi has continued to work against the interest of the State, refusing to use his position as a Minister to attract benefits to the people

Politics / No Need For Biafra Agitation- Kalu Blasts Ipob by LATESTNGNEWS: 7:10pm On Jul 30, 2017
The former governor of Abia State and a highly esteemed elder stateman of the Igbo ethnic group, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, has made comments that can only be described as schocking to the ventire Biafran agitators.Kalu says Igbos should stop believing in calls for Biafra.

The former governor says southeasterners should reflect on how they want their future to be and not engage in fruitless adventures. He called for Igbos to re-position themselves politically.

Ex-Abia state governor Orji Uzor Kalu has predicted that the agitation by IPOB for Biafra under its leader Nnamdi Kanu is not possible and so Igbos should face how to win the presidency.

According to reports, Orji Kalu made this prediction in a statement in Lokoja, Kogi state capital on Saturday, July 29 when he visited the central state to deliver a lecture at an Igbo gathering. He said: “We must fix Nigeria to work for all inclusive of all aspiration of all. We (Igbo) have made progress but it is not yet Uhuru for us. “This is not the time to pop champagne but a time for conscious reflection on the road we have passed, where we are and where we intend to be in the years ahead.

“As Igbos, we must stop listening to people who says Biafra is possible. If we want Biafra we must first ensure that referendum is included in the constitutional review. “Nigeria should be thinking of annexing other Africa country rather than dividing it. China is 2 billion and not talking about secession. But Nigeria with less than 200 million populace is talking secession.”

Speaking about the recent quit notice to Igbos by Arewa youths, Kalu said: “Recently, we have witnessed a rise in ethnic activism. A lot of people have expressed fears that Nigeria may be coming to an end. “Well in politics, you have to entertain all manner of fears while working on possibilities. However, because of that fears, we have seen a ‘quit notice’ order from some northern youth groups.

“I will focus on the possibilities. And the first is that a United Nigeria is an easier possibility than a balkanized country. I see a more united country rising from the ashes of hate and fear. “However, the issues raised have causes some to wonder if the Igbo have leaders. Of course, Igbo’s leaders are talking and dialoguing. In politics, you often dialogue more than you talk.

“So, in managing a diverse country like Nigeria, you need to dialogue and communicate rightly. That way you will be able to manage tension. In this regard, I want to specially thank the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo led by Chief John Nnia Nwodo for the matured way they handle the quit notice.

“People are naturally attached to their religion, customs, and tradition. People take offence at the abuse of their religion, customs and tradition. This is because any such abuse is considered an affront. “I am not sure of any Igbo man who will like a non-Igbo resident in his village transgressing the custom of his people. If you will not like that, don’t do it to another person. That is the golden rule. If you do just that, the source of friction and trouble will be defeated.

“I believe the Igbo are in a better position to understand that all politics, like they say, is local. It therefore suggest that the Igbo must see the need to align properly and seek strategic partnership of other interest groups and political blocs to achieve whatever developmental ideas that they have; such as the shoot for the presidency.

“In politics, you market yourself and make yourself a strategic ally. It is when you achieve this that you put your cards on the table. If the Igbo work themselves into a very strategic political partner, while not putting their eggs into one basket, we can then put the cards on the table before our partners to determine what we get for and what they get from us. We cannot however do that when we remain antagonistic to one another. We cannot achieve it when we scare everyone away with hate. We cannot achieve it if we think its Igbo and Igbo alone.

“We must build necessary networks. We must build alliances across political divide. This are very important so that our own stories can be told and heard too. If we don’t build such alliances, we may not be able to market our demands.

Hazard and Courtois, two of Nainggolan’s Belgium team-mates, were also eager for their compatriot to join them at club level and have urged him to consider the move.

But Nainggolan played down talk of a move away from Italy and has now committed his future to I Giallorossi.

“I think I have demonstrated that this is what I always wanted,” Nainggolan, 29, told the club's website.

“So I'm very happy, especially that the club and I can continue our adventure and move forward together.”

Roma president James Pallota commented: “We're delighted Radja has committed his long-term future - and the most important years of his career - to the club.

“Last season, he was arguably one of the best midfielders in the world and it's no surprise that he was linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

“But there was never any question of him going elsewhere - he loves Roma and we love having him here.

Politics / No Body Can Force Me Out Of APC - Atiku Abubakar by LATESTNGNEWS: 2:59pm On Nov 21, 2016
Former Vice President and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives’ Congress (APC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said no person or group of persons was strong enough to force him out of the party.

Atiku spoke amidst mounting concerns by his political associates and supporters on his political trajectory in the wake of caustic remarks on the former Vice President by the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai.

The former Vice President said that he remained a very loyal member of the APC and was pre-occupied with helping President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling party to succeed.
Atiku spoke through his spokesman Mazi Paul Ibe.

“Atiku Abubakar remains a very committed and loyal memeber of APC. He is pre-occupied with helping President Muhammadu Buhari and APC succeed at all levels and therefore cannot be blackmailed or cajoled into dumping the party,” affirmed Ibe.
Atiku’s spokesman said the former Vice President personally resolved not to further join issues with Governor el-Rufai. He, however, stressed that his boss was elated by last weekend’s investigative report by Saturday Punch quoting an official of the United States’ Department of State as deflating el-Rufai’s claim that Atiku’s alleged involvement in the Halliburton Scandal had earned him a ban from entering the US.

“Considering that Turaki will soon be 70, this clarification by the US State department couldn’t have come at a better time and is the best birthday gift,” reasoned Ibe.

He continued: ‘This blackmail is over a decade old. Remember Atiku was Number 2 man the time some people began this campaign of calumny. Thank God he has been vindicated and the controversy laid to rest.”, stressed Ibe.

Atiku’s spokesman said the former Vice President was a firm believer in the maxim: “tomorrow belongs to God”, and it was therefore wrong to imagine that he is desperate about political office.

“Atiku Abubakar’s support for President Muhammadu Buhari has exceeded my expectations. In fact, there are several things I had tried to tell him to do for the president and was pleasantly surprised that he had done more than expected,” declared Ibe.

Atiku, who recently traded verbal fireworks with el-Rufai, served as Vice President to President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007. Shortly after Obasanjo was re-elected president, he appointed el-Rufai as Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) minister at about the same time the relationship between Obasanjo and Atiku hit the rocks. At some point Obasanjo accused his deputy of treachery.

Interestingly, el-Rufai, whom Atiku claimed to have helped into the administration, led the onslaught against the former Vice President.
In the build-up to the 2007 presidential election, el-Rufai, who was a very powerful minister in Obasanjo’s cabinet, aligned with his boss to stop the Vice President from contesting the presidential election. Surrounded on all sides, Atiku promptly defected to the now defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and after a torturous legal process, became the party’s presidential candidate and the first sitting Vice President of Nigeria to defect to an opposition party.

At the time, some had predicted that having hounded Atiku out of PDP, Obasanjo would annoint el-Rufai as successor. The former president, however, chose the then governor of Katsina State (now late) Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua instead.

Politics / Agbonayinma Warns Nigerian-Americans Against Voting For Trump by LATESTNGNEWS: 12:23pm On Nov 07, 2016
As Americans cast ballots tomorrow to decide the occupant of the White House, Chairman, House of Representatives ad-hoc Committee on the Nigeria-United States (U.S.) Congress Relations, Mr. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, has enjoined Nigerian-Americans to be wary of voting for the Republican candidate, Donald Trump.

In a statement made available to The Guardian yesterday, the lawmaker representing Egor/Ikpoba OKha Federal Constituency in Edo State, argued that it would serve the interest of Nigerian-Americans to settle for the Democratic Party candidate, Mrs. Hillary Clinton.

Agbonayinma argued that a vote for Trump is a vote for destruction since he is playing the Russian script that will not favour anybody.

The statement reads: “His statement on Africans is a disgrace to humanity and it is unfortunate that Donald Trump is playing the script of a racist not only as a member of KKK but also standing as an apostle of the Satan. America is not for sale and Americans should not fall into Trump’s hands as he has decided to ridicule the USA.

“ Trump is taking the world back to the era of slavery that the forefathers of America fought so hard in building a better America will today be crying in their graves.

“This is not the type of America they foresaw as over the years while living in the United States of America as a real estate practitioner I was fortunate to listen to Trump lecturing on real estate.

“I saw him then as a good business man who wanted to build a better America. I saw him praising former President Bill Clinton as one of the best Presidents America ever had.

“I also saw him pouring encomium on Senator Hilary Clinton as one of the best Secretary of State America ever had. Now today, he has changed from his former position as someone who loved the Bill Clinton family to someone who hates the Clintons.

“Today he’s speaking from both sides of his mouth. A man must be trustworthy because Donald Trump is on trial in so many criminal activities involving tax evasion, molesting women and above all, disregarding those who fought for a greater and better America because of his selfish interest.

“I’m appealing to all Nigerian-Americans who are eligible to vote not to throw away their voting right. “We don’t want to go back to the dark days. “We want to forge ahead for a brighter future.
