nograv:You are not been fair on this President. Do you know details around the budget and what it is intended to do? 2020 budget implementation will end by Mar2021 meaning 2 budgets will run concurrently in the first 3 months of 2021, giving the 2020 budget a better implementation chance after the pandemic messed up revenue projections and therefore proper implementation in 2020. With all the challenges of this administration, they are still better managers of scarce resources. Returning budget cycle to Jan-Dec is the first step towards disciplined implementation. |
Bluntemperor:Tony Momoh is being sarcastic. You can see it through his write up. He was basically baiting the PDP while sounding politically correct. Smart guy. If you really ask his opinion, he may tell you that PDP has a 10% chance of winning 2023 presidential election. PDP should take his advice by playing matured opposition politics but more importantly give the presidential ticket to a young, intelligent, corrupt-free, broad based, action filled go getter. That's the only way they stand any chance of winning 2023. As per alternatives to both APC and PDP, there is little hope. Nothing comes easy and rulers don't give up their authorities easily. It is far more than wishing it or mouthing it off on SM. 2 years to go, nothing to suggest any coordinated attempt at an alternative platform. Those planning such a platform should do well by researching how APC did something similar ahead of 2015 election that gave them a fighting chance to unseat PDP. |
Samson0599:Read that article with an open mind. The author dissected the issue in detail. Power is not given easily but taken. Politics is a game and you need strategies and actions to win. You can't deploy tactics that can't win you the game and turn round to blame game organisers for your loss. Alliances with diverse groups (ethnic, religious, professional etc), bridge building, support for others and a whole lot more is required so a strong bargaining chip is built up. When you then push for the Presidency, it will be an easy ride as the hard work would have been done upfront. The writer said it may be too late but I think it is still a possibility if the hard work is put in now rather than these threats and blackmail that will get nowhere |
drlaykay:Most likely, pump price of fuel will increase with rise in crude oil price. We need to optimise and cut down our fuel usage - use more public transport than driving our cars. If you like driving, then pool resources together with friends to go in a single car than driving in different empty cars. Hopefully, the trend of improving Power continues with govt reforms so that we depend less and less on fueling generators. Grow a lot more of our food so we feed ourselves, increase employment and eventually drive down prices. A lot depends on govt but a lot also depends on us the citizens. Lets reduce complaints and do our own bit. |
Originalsly:Foreign passport holders have to go through the same procedure as Nigerian passport holders - do covid test b4 travelling to naija and do a follow up test 7 days after landing in naija. If they do not want to be tested, then they stay away and don't travel to Nigeria. |
panpan:If the UK, US, Canada and likes require you to take a covid test before getting their visas or entering their countries, we will not hesitate to obey without these excuses. Testing if you have symptoms is free in many parts of the world including Nigeria. Many tests for purposes other than developing symptoms are commercial in nature and have to be paid for. Many inbound passengers from the UK paid upwards of £120 to get tested in the UK before boarding their flights to Nigeria. I believe it is same for many other countries. What is the big deal with naija then? |
Tonymario58:These are the kinds of mindsets that fuel hatred and division. You are causing harm without knowing it |
EM123:It seems many of us don't understand the impact of drastically fallen oil price on our economy. Like someone said, check out how countries dependent on crude oil revenue have been faring since 2014. The previous govt earned on average 3 times more revenue earned by this govt and what was done with it than to squander and steal it? Recall by 2014, the then govt had started struggling with salary payments. This govt came in, paid outstanding salaries, bailed out states several times to enable them pay salaries etc. More prudent resource management has been achieved by this govt. If the needful has been done to diversify our economy in 16 years of plenty before this govt came to power, we won't be where we are today. Lets not hide our head in the sand and criticise for the sake of it but join hands to get us out of it by asking govts at all levels to be less extravagant, cut unnecessary spending and set examples of prudence. Then they can earn the right to ask citizens to bear with current hardships as they navigate us away from it. It will take a few more years but we will get out of this economic situation induced by low revenues. |
moneyisgood6or9:Why do you query his/her Catholicity? Catholics respect their clergy and cherish that institution. You can also understand that while loads of people respect Bishop Kukah, some would have wished he toned down his message which in some people's opinion was ethnically and religiously divisive. Why take away from the message by bringing lot of opposition to it thereby opening it up to attack and ridicule? Words are powerful, particularly those from respected people. We should be preaching healing and togetherness for our dear country than seeking to divide it. I'm sure Bishop Kukah will have time to reflect over it in the coming days. I urge Buhari and the govt not to take any action inimical to Bishop Kukah's wellbeing but also reflect on the underlining message and seek how to further unite the country. |
Coronabirus:Pls keep speaking out to dispel the myth and bias of folks. When you put data on the table to argue logically, rather than put counter arguments on the table, they will resort to abuses and rehash of well worn myths. Focusing on ethnicity and or religious angles is not the productive thing to do in my opinion. Let us for a second take the argument that majority of our security chiefs are from the North, has that exterminated the security challenges in the same North today? Many of the folks that represent our states at national level cannot change our fortunes if they are not competent even if they fill the govt with their number. I will rather focus on the competence of the occupiers. One last example - during Buhari's first term in office, the South arguably commanded the heights of the economy. Fashola oversaw 3 powerful ministries of Power, Works and Housing. Kemi Adeosun was Finance minister, Emefiele was CBN Gov, Fowler was FIRS Chairman, VP Osinbajo was National Economic Council Chairman and the list goes on and on. Very few if any complained about that set up then. Others have given numerous examples like that. Of course balance appointments with competent people but crying about a Northern domination in itself is not the silver bullet |
I won't blame Femi at all. Hatred and bile has taken over too many of our people. If Buhari chooses to ignore them, good for him but people like Femi whose job it is to defend the govt cannot responsibly sit back and allow this wanton hatred to gain foothold. He should keep dispelling and clearing up this hatred for our dear country. I am sure if people want to engage constructively, they will be more than welcome to work with govt in finding lasting solutions to areas of challenges. If anyone chooses rather to engage in hateful business, they should be ready to stay awake as they will not sleep. |
