Politics / Recounting Vice President Osinbajo’s Helicopter Crash. by leeport: 9:30am On Feb 02, 2020
*Recounting Vice President Osinbajo’s Helicopter crash.*

The coincidence of having the one year anniversary of the Vice President’s Helicopter crash fall on a Sunday, lends no extra thought to the idea of the family holding a thanksgiving service for the life of their Patriarch that was spared.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was involved in a Helicopter crash in Kogi State while on his way to attend a rally ahead of the presidential elections, last year. Luckily none of the 10 occupants of the aircraft was hurt in anyway, and still going ahead to attend the event Vice President Yemi Osinbajo left many Nigerians perplexed and in awe of his work attitude. He is often described as being eloquent, unassuming and hardworking – constantly praised for the way he has deputised for President Buhari.

In the aftermath of the incidence, one of the first acts of the Vice President was to thank the flight crew whom he praised for acting professionally throughout the brief but near fatal incident. He also revealed that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God had appeared to have foreseen the incident during the prayer session they held sometime before the accident as prayers were actually made to ward of such an occurrence as the loss of Life.

This actually led to the VP’s aid, Mr. Laolu Akande tweeting that the survival of everyone on board was the manifestation of God’s word. There was an outpouring of love from and thanksgiving from all quarters as even the Peoples Democratic Party the main opposition, and even its presidential candidate, tweeted appreciation for safety of everyone on board.

In the post events and after investigations, Caverton Helicopters, the company that owned the aircraft that crashed, blamed the incidence on "unusual weather conditions". Eyewitnesses say dust, thrown up as the helicopter approached to land by the Kabba Township Stadium might have impaired the pilot's visibility. One of the main rotor blades was said to have detached from the mast as it descended. cool

Health / Coronavirus: Remember The Ebola Virus Treatment? by leeport: 8:46am On Jan 26, 2020
Coronavirus: Remember the Ebola virus treatment?

I did a quick research on coronavirus and its statistics so far. And I discovered that it's having a high presence in Asia, Europe and America.

Sometimes ago, when Ebola virus was prevalent in Africa, particularly Liberia, Nigeria, Guinea and Sierra Leone, some Americans and European countries treated Africans with disdain, ridicule and contempt making Ebola a major instrument of discrimination.

I could remember vividly, so many instances of segregation by the whites who felt irritated by the sight of Africans during that period not to mention travel restrictions. To them, all known and unknown viruses and diseases have/had their origin in Africa. Pathetic!

During the Ebola outbreak, I recall a story that emanated from Staten Island in New York. One woman said she was forced to take temporary, unpaid leave from her job because of her nationality, she was a Liberian.
Liberians in Minnesota, USA, were told to leave work after sneezing or coughing.

In New Jersey, two elementary school students from Rwanda were kept out of school after some parents pressured school officials.

At Navarro College, a public community college in Texas, officials mailed letters rejecting international applicants from African countries, even ones from countries without confirmed Ebola cases.

And then so many Nigerians and Africans were denied VISA, manhandled and arrested and deported at airports.

These are just few cases of the discrimination.

For Ebola, (I'll agree) those fears were driven by the circumstances of the virus — its high mortality rate, its gruesome symptoms, its origins on a continent often misunderstood by Americans — even though the odds of contracting it in the US remained low.

An average American sees Africa as a small "Angwan" (permit me to use that word) that is surrounded by bushes, forest and animals and also humans who behave like these same animals.

Mighty wonder, I thought these other continents and their inhabitants are glamorously sterile not until the Coronavirus crawled into China.

While, the coronavirus spreads from Asia to America and to other countries, we do not need this in Africa and strict preventive measures should be put in place by the governments of African countries.

Please don’t misunderstand me, this is not a mockery of people from these countries or those affected by coronavirus, it is just a timely reminder that we are all humans and we all need to have open minds towards others.

It’s painful that China cannot celebrate Lunar New Year, the first in this decade. It’s painful that parents are separated from children and grandparents from grandchildren but what is important is that the world needs people and leaders who are more receptive.

Oh, well, I think that is it.

Politics / Osinbajo Exonerated From DSS Re-arrest Of Sowore by leeport: 11:08am On Dec 07, 2019
Osinbajo exonerated from DSS re-arrest of Sowore

In 2017, when Prof Yemi Osinbajo was Acting President, Nigeria witnessed many changes to rule of law and human rights and for the first time since the return to democracy, Nigeria had a man who understood what was happening to the masses and a man who took quick actions.
This achievements exonerates him in this Omoyele Sowore’s case. See below:

As Acting President, Prof. Osinbajo on 7 August 2018, Osinbajo fired the State Security Service boss, Lawal Daura for illegal invasion of National Assembly by armed and masked operatives of the department. Daura was replaced with Matthew Seiyefa.

As Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo directed the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to immediately begin the overhaul of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. He has also directed the National Human Rights Commission to set up a panel to probe allegations of rights abuses in Nigeria.

As Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo transmitted a letter seeking the confirmation of then acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Samuel Onnoghen as substantive CJN.As Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, set up a seven-man judicial commission to investigate the allegations of human rights violations in the military. The commission was headed by Biobele Georgewill, a justice of the Court of Appeal.

As Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo directed service chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri, Borno state. The following day Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai and Chief of Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar relocated to Borno to restore normalcy to the area.

As Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, charged policemen to do everything humanly possible to respect citizens right and stop extrajudicial killings.

As Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, summoned Inspector-General of Police Idris Ibrahim over the kidnap of two German archaeologists, Prof. Peter Breunig, Mr. Johannes Behringer and others in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Politics / Abba Kyari, Cabal Ridiculing Buhari Not Osinbajo by leeport: 11:32am On Nov 08, 2019
Abba Kyari, Cabal ridiculing Buhari not Osinbajo

Many people are saying that the face of the cabal, Abba Kyari and other members of the cabal are working to ridicule Vice President Yemi Osinbajo but I see things differently.

Abba Kyari has only exposed President Muhammadu Buhari every step of the way. He is showing that the number one man is clueless, lacks wisdom, unorganized and without a plan. He is also exposing himself as a failed Chief of Staff. You should ask how?

You say the President has approved the sack of 35 aides that he only appointed or re-appointed weeks ago. Does this mean that he did not know that those aides where not needed at the time of appointment or was he hoodwinked into giving them appointment letters? Either way it shows the man at the helm is not getting things right.

Then how do we explain that a man of over 70 years, in Abba Kyari, flying across the world with papers for the President to sign. This shows that the Chief of Staff has failed in his priorities. What was so important that he had to travel the world, waste taxpayers money for the President’s signature?

If Nigerians look at this critically, they will find that although the President is within the law not to hand over power to the Vice President because the constitution states that the President is only mandated to hand over power when he is out of the country for 21 days or more, it is a shameful act for Abba Kyari to waste taxpayers money travelling to the UK. It also means that Buhari has failed to cut the cost of governance, more talk and less action. Again, this makes the President look bad. It is a slap on the faces of Nigerians and he is only ridiculing the country internationally by publicizing the signing of that bill.

Another moment of ridicule for the President was in Daura, his hometown. The Emir of Daura was within his rights to shower encomium on the Vice President, describing him as the most honest politician around. He also said he was very loyal and honest to his boss but this vexed Abba Kyari.

He again tried to ensure that the accolade and recognition from the Emir to the Vice President did not go unpunished. Abba Kyari and the cabal have showed some high level of insecurity, they have also shown their incompetence, in all, they have exposed President Buhari instead of protecting him.

Abba Kyari can fool a section of Nigerians but he cannot fool those who know. In 2014, when Osinbajo was campaigning, he didn’t need TraderMoni to jump Molue in Lagos or visit marketplaces. It’s his style, it is who he is.

I always tell my students, try and discover yourself, don’t envy anyone because we all have our gifts, talents and skill sets.

A word is enough for the wise.
