The National Co-ordinator, Congress of University Academics (CONUA), Dr Niyi Sunmonu, on Saturday said its members were ready to resume work. Sunmonu said this in a statement he issued after its National Executive Council meeting and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Lagos. He urged the Federal Government to reopen universities and put in place infrastructure and COVID-19 protocols that would facilitate resumption in the institutions. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that CONUA was an association of lecturers from five universities following cracks in the Association of Senior Staff of Universities (ASUU). The new Union was announced at the end of its stakeholders’ forum at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in October 2019. ”CONUA members are ready to resume work. ”Everything necessary in terms of COVID-19 protocols must be put in place before reopening the universities in order to prevent students and staff from contracting the disease.” The education sector cannot continue to stagnate. As it appears, COVID-19 would continue to be a threat and we must, in the circumstance, learn to strive to lead our normal life.” The Union urges the government to make available everything that can help our universities to resume work as it is being done elsewhere in the world,” he said. Venue: Wembley Stadium, London Date: 29 August, 2020 (Saturday) Time: 4:30pm Nigerian time Arsenal's domestic season ended on the first day of August with the FA Cup final victory against Chelsea - and kicks back into action at the end of the same month as they meet Premier League champions Liverpool in the Community Shield at Wembley on Saturday. Liverpool's Premier League title was a procession from the turn of the year onwards, won with seven games left and with a final margin of 18 points, despite the inevitable levelling off after the victory was confirmed. Liverpool's Premier League success, their first title for 30 years, was the result of moving brilliantly through the gears over several seasons under Klopp. Arsenal's success was built in a different manner, the record 14th FA Cup triumph against Chelsea on 1 August coming after a season of turbulence with Arteta thrust into his first managerial job at this footballing superpower following the December sacking of Unai Emery. Wembley, as with the FA Cup final, will be without fans but the Community Shield still offers the opportunity to put down an early marker for the start of the Premier League season, which starts on Saturday, 12 September. Two different types of triumphs for Arsenal and Liverpool led to this traditional curtain-raiser, although it remains to be seen how strong each side will be on Saturday, given the curtailed run-up to the new campaign. Japanese PM Shinzo Abe has announced his resignation for health reasons. He said he did not want his illness to get in the way of decision making, and apologised to the Japanese people for failing to complete his term in office. He has suffered for many years from ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease, but his condition has worsened recently, he said. Last year, he became Japan's longest serving prime minister. His current period in office began in 2012. In 2007 he resigned abruptly from an earlier term as prime minister because of his struggles with ulcerative colitis, a chronic condition that he has lived with since he was a teenager. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-53943758

OlujobaSamuel:Olujoba, Nigeria is super rich, don't mind the loan thing, our leaders are just not advanced to respect it's citizens. A good government regards it's citizens with respect ours is the opposite. |

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has tested positive for coronavirus, says France manager Didier Deschamps. The 27-year-old will have to self-isolate for 14 days. He will miss France's Nations League game in Sweden on Saturday, 5 September and the home game against Croatia three days later. However, Pogba could be eligible for selection for United's Premier League opener against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on 19 September. His club said: "Everybody at United wishes Paul a speedy recovery ahead of the new season." Pogba will be replaced in the France squad by 17-year-old Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. "I've completed, at the very last minute, a change in the list," Deschamps said on Thursday. "Paul Pogba, who was previously on the list, unfortunately for him he carried out a test yesterday which was returned as positive this morning." https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/53932853

Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny is unconscious in hospital after suffering from suspected poisoning. Mr Navalny fell ill during a flight heading to Moscow from Tomsk forcing the plane to an emergency landing in Omsk, a city in West-Central Russia. His spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh says something had been mixed into his tea, and that it was the only thing he took since morning. Mr Navalny, 44, is a staunch critic of President Vladmir Putin. He is on a ventilator and in a coma. Doctors were initially ready to share any information but later claimed toxicology tests had been delayed. In 2017, Mr Navalny suffered a serious chemical burn to his right eye after he was assaulted with antiseptic dye. He came to prominence through his blog hosted by LiveJournal but later switched to YouTube where he has 3.79 million subscribers and Twitter where he has more more than 2.1 million followers.
