Opin War: How Ilorin subjugated the Ekitis The Opin war brought a vast stretch of Ekitiland up to Ikole under Ilorin`s rule. This war began as a simple search for a runaway slave called Esu, who escaped from Ilorin to Ekitiland, where he became a marauder against Ilorin traders passing through that territory. The episode began when Esu: “left Ilorin and settled first at Egbe then at Itagi and finally at Isan, leading a predatory life in those regions, kidnapping peaceful traders, sparing none, and was particularly hard on the Ilorin traders. In that way, he became a person of some importance in those parts; hence the Ilorins were now resolved upon capturing him alive.” The pursuit of Esu by Ilorin`s troops involved the ransacking of villages after villages in Ekitiland to fish him out. The search sometimes degenerated to outright plundering. As the troops trailed him from one town to another, plundering worsened. Plundering spread wider and wider caused unbearable hardship everywhere. The intensity and the extent of the plundering forced the victims to put up some resistance which initially resulted in skirmishes. Later it escalated to a full-scale war between Ilorin and the Ekitis. As the war progressed, Ekiti towns fell in rapid succession to the ever-conquering Ilorin cavalry and from that time, became part of the expanding Ilorin Emirate. At one stage, Esu was trailed to Opin and a siege was mounted against the town by the Ilorin army. Unable to contain the siege or break it, Opin appealed to Ibadan for help and this was given. With this help, Opin held its ground gallantly against the Ilorin cavalry for three years before its defences crumbled and the town was taken by Ilorin. Esu, however, escaped and was pursued to Isan but as the town fell he escaped again to Ikole causing Ikole, too, to be besieged and taken by the Ilorin army. After the capture of Ikole, the Ibadan contingent, which was assisting the Ekiti withdrew and returned to Ibadan. The Ilorin cavalry, too, could not advance further because of the tropical vegetation of Ekitiland. The capture of Ikole extended the suzerainty of Ilorin from the city wall in Ilorin through the whole of Igbominaland to Eruku on the verge of Yagba territory and from there through the whole Ekitiland now within Kwara state, across the border to Ikole, which is now in Ekiti state. This vast territory became a colony of Ilorin. It remained so from about 1860 till 1896 when the British colonial administration in Lagos intruded and drove Ilorin`s resident administrator, Ajeles, away from Ishan, Ikole and Aiyede. |
Ovi2020:I get your point, but why don't you think this way... Maybe their projected profit is based on foreign earnings, you can't compare to local market sales. This lock down can prevent exportation, even food crops are been destroyed in USA due to low patronage. So I think if am their manager, I will suggest they sell it in local markets, return the investors' capitals and use the remaining gross profit to settle expenses in operations, pay taxes and reinvest. So after lock down we all can move on, shikena! |
That's why your capital is only insured not the interest. If It's ponzi, you won't be getting your capital talk less of interest. Read the terms and conditions of their insurance policy. |

Power is not constant nor static, it changes with time no matter how tight you hold. It just swing like that naturally and uncontrollably. Africans, British, Romans, Persians, Greece, have all had their share, Americans presently sooner or later it will shift. According to conspiracy theories, Religious philosophies and different studies power will shift to Asia. China is prime candidate, well in conclusion few centuries back nobody would have imagine The great Rome will loose her power grip, or the great Mongolian hordes will vanish, or the undefeated Greeks or the Almighty Britain the pendulum swings, and no force can stop it. |
Mumu talk! As long as necessary, and we all should know this will be with us for a while until there is a cure or vaccine. We can pause humanity just because of a virus, we had a worse case before Spanish flue and black death each causing over 50m deaths. We have worse diseases killing millions of people yearly like diabetes, Malaria,HiV,hepatitis and cancer etc , no country is shutting down since. Corona virus fatality is less than 5%, that is if 100 people have corona virus, we will only have about 5 deaths. But poverty, hunger, economic breakdown, insecurity etc which are aftermath effects of the economic shut down will kill millions of people in a short while. Best solution, rapid, free and cheap test conducted by clinics, pharmacies, hospitals located in all strata's of the society eg higher institutions, schools, communities etc. Compulsory use of face mask and washing of hands, and for little kids at schools basic education about the virus can be taught.. Like washing hands, dont shake hands, and temperature check at the schools We can also key in, cheap ventilators and testing kits from Senegal not to be waiting for China, at least 10billion naira can get us the testing kits of about 25million units $1 each from Senegal, that alone will be more than enough. |

Nigerians suffering from Stockholm syndrome |
Hello Everyone, I need your assistance in decision making between this two careers( SOFTWARE ENGINEER VS NETWORK & SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR). Area of consideration: Versatility Job opportunities Scope Thanks for the anticipated replies |
Agberooo:sure bro, you only oppress unarmed citizens. But when they are armed, even USA cant survive it. |
Xisnin:Armed youths with guns, am sure u took note of that. Further more, there are international laws guilding how you manage internal crises, mass killing of your citizens will be termed as war crime. Libya, Sudan, Ivory Coast and so on. |
BuddhaPalm:Artillery for street on citizens, how many artillery you want to fire on 100k armed citizens coming at once in all directions like a flood? All police stations, army barracks will be swept off like chaffs. Revolution and uprising is different from conventional war when u have time to prepare, this is a sudden and simultaneous attacks and guess what is from your own people. Thats what CIA use to topple many top dictators, so think again. |
Anyone with a gun can kill ,even 8yrs boy no big deal. 500k determine youths armed with local guns can crush the Nigeria security outfits with 24hrs. Am sure thats less than 1% of the total youth population of this country. But we are just so dumb and timid even sheep cant be so dumb. |
We are in desperate times, we should take measures. People do things u cant imagine cause of hunger and they care less of the consequences. Parents sells their children or eat them just to survive, hunger is a very painful way to die |
Yenefer:not at alll, they are related to kanuri. They have their language too, Nigeriens are the ones related to fulanis....those from Niger |
Yenefer:Hausas are weak same with fulanis thats why they attack the vulnerable during war or riots. they take strength in their multitude and surprise attacks. Have u ever seen hausa or fulanis fight and open war and win alone? A large percentage of them fill the military, thats why Nigerian military is weak. southerns have more experience and heart for open wars, d ijaws, igbos, yorubas, benins etc. If there will be a breakway, the north wont stand the chance there alot of allies that will join the southern Army |
OP, I got your point. But considering the virus is airborne and also spread fast with great speed it's something of high priority. Example: sample population of 100m, without proper management 10% of the population can contact within few weeks. With 3% death rate, we are looking at 300k death within few weeks. Now the rate is at 5% worldwide:- 1m cases with 50k deaths |
Let me break it down for you. What u meant is that a large churnk of Nigerians are irredeemably wicked and greedy. Hence, they dont have the moral justification to criticize the government. Alas, this is wrong assertion. Leaders are to lay down rules and enforce compliance, but when the leaders are the major transgressors to the laid down rules the followers are on auto mode to follow their path. Esin waju ni teyin wo sare! |
