The leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, on Friday asked Nigerians to disregard the rumor making the rounds in several quarters and the social media platforms alleging that the PFN has endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2023 general elections. Reacting to the news making the rounds, the PFN National Publicity Secretary, Bishop Dr. Gospel Emmah Isong, in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Calabar at the on-going 17th Biennial Conference in Bayelsa State, said, “I want you to know that nothing like that has happened in the history of the PFN. “We have not endorse any political party or any presidential candidate, rather what we have on-going is the 17th Biennial Conference of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, themed: “More Than Conquerors,” currently on-going in Bayelsa State.” The PFN publicist maintained that the conference is an avenue for all Christians, especially those in power who are very free to join in and fellowship with the fathers of faith to pray for themselves and the nation. Isong stressed that no endorsement has been done at the conference. Isong stated that the rumor is nothing but fake news, calling on well-meaning Nigerians to shun such news that may had trend on social media platforms and in some quarters, probably aime at rubbishing and dragging the good image of PFN to disrepute. He added, “We coincidentally had the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who is also the Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and Obi same day, who both came to fellowship with us. “And at no point did the National President, His Eminence, Bishop Dr. Wale Oke, nor other fathers of faith and members of PFN NEC endorse any presidential candidate or political party. That has not happen. I believe whatever you have read regarding that issue is junk and fake news.” PFN called on the 60 million Christians in Nigeria to look into the profile of these candidates and vote according to their conscience, stressing that it would not and cannot force any Christian to vote a particular candidate, but rather they have asked them to vote their conscience. The PFN publicity scribe urged all followers and supporters of political parties to stop media frenzy and halt the use of social media to vote for their candidates, adding, “Political campaigns are beyond social media.” Isong averred that the PFN is not partisan, insisting that it is aware that its members belong to different political parties, and therefore we will not make the mistake of endorsing any party or candidate at this point. He enthused, “Today, we are expecting the Executive Secretary, Christians Pilgrims Board, who serves with the Federal Government, in the person of Dr.Yakubu Pam, coming to fellowship and pray with us for the good of this nation. “We have not yet and never will we endorse any political candidate for the 2023 elections. We asked our members to pray, wait for the lord and vote according to their conscience.” |

Shifting Fences. By Charles Chukwuedo Snr, Esq. For how long shall we continue to shift the fence for the Obidients. What do we do to please Labour party. There is always one complaint or the other against individuals who express their view or against government agencies who are doing their best to be impartial in the upcoming election. What does Obidients want? To simply hand over the presidential trophy to their presidential candidate. Sorry, it doesn't work like that. The rate at which Obidients shift fences is disturbing. What they hitherto condemned, all of a sudden they embrace when they think it would favour their pursuit. Some of the Obidients behave like thugs and terrorist. They won't allow people to express their view. Labour part presidential candidate tells Nigerians that he joined the presidential contest to ameliorate the suffering of Nigerians. Why the position somersault on the issue of new naira notes crisis. Nigerians are struggling to lay hands on the new naira notes. My Nigerian brother's and sister's experience untold hardship as a result of a policy that has not been properly managed by CBN. Even though we welcome and commend the policy. It is the implementation that we have a problem with. Even if you give your blood to the Obidients, they still have something to complain about. They smell a rat when there's no ulterior motive. No one wins election by manipulation and intimidation. Nigeria electorates are saddled with the responsibility to elect the president of Nigeria. They alone will decide who they give their mandate. I look forward to February 25th. Let us settle this matter once and for all. To some of my Obidient friends I say to you once again, it is your prerogative who you support. Allow others support the presidential candidate of their choice. I am not a fan of Seun Kuti. I am a fan of Kuti Snr, baba 70 himself. My politcal philosophy doesn't align with most of Seun's political views. That said, it doesn't mean that it is everything that Seun says that I disagree with. I could see a lot of sense in what the young man had to say about Petet Obi recently. Seun stated that Peter Obi is an opportunist politican. Seun sees no difference between Peter Obi and other politicans. He accused Peter Obi of jumping ship because he knew he won't get the PDP presidential ticket. He stated that Peter Obi can't deliver Nigeria. He went on to state that; "...he started too late. You can't be telling me that just because you lost PDP primaries 18 months before the election, you suddenly started a movement, and you have a plan for the country.'' Seun did not stop at this. He further stated that "No, that’s opportunism. And it’s not an opportunist that will deliver Nigeria—not jumping on Labour Party. The Labour Party has a socialist structure. Peter Obi is a capitalist. Where are they going?” Except your delusional, there is truism in Seun's point. Especially the point he made about labour party being a socialist structure. Peter Obi is a capitalist. Truism. Seun Kuti has received abuse from some Obidients. For simply expressing a view. Obidients can shift the fence as many times as they like. This does not guarantee their presidential candidate a win. I remain convinced that the Presidential election context is between the 2 political heavyweight parties; APC and PDP. On a final note a political movement is not about one individual. It is not individual based. What drives the movement is their political philosophy. Don't turn this movement to a one man band. If you do it will not see the light of the day. In other words the movement should not die because some persons lose an election. Other people who share the belief of the movement should be allowed to drive the movement objective. It should be bigger than personalities. By Charles Chukwuedo Snr, Esq. 9/2/2023. ©️. |
