Okay,

It seems to me then that they were not certain about your research potential.

Good luck

Good morning gurus in the house, I am new here nd reli need your assistance and advice, I applied to a school in Canada and this is what I got from them today
Pls what is the next thing for me to do, I want to study there on scholarship(if the school will offer me) as I may not be able to pay the school fees
This is the copy of the mail

Hello,

I am pleased to inform you that the Department of Educational Administration has recommended your application for conditional admission to the College of Graduate Studies and Research to our Graduate Degree program, start date of September 2018.

Please note that you are being accepted as a course-based student although you applied as a thesis-based student. The admissions committee decided that you will have the opportunity to transfer into the thesis route after 3 courses, as they were unsure of your research skills. This is a frequent occurrence during admissions for our department and does not affect your good standing in our department.

To fulfill the conditions of your admission, you must arrange for an original set of your transcripts to the College of Graduate Studies, as we only have a copy and the College of Graduate Studies requires a full original set.

Your application will now be sent to the College of Graduate Studies for their final consideration. When Graduate Studies approves our recommendation for admission you will receive a congratulatory email, with letter to follow, from the Director of Programs. The email will explain the procedure regarding your acceptance for the offer of admission, and on how to arrange sending the set of transcripts to them.

The process of your acceptance is underway. Congratulations!

Regards,
Hello

Congrats on your acceptance.

From what I know, you've been accepted into a course based program as opposed to the research based program you applied for.

Course based programs usually don't have funding hence you'll most likely have to pay your fees yourself. At least for the period before you switch to research.

If I may ask, did your department require you to secure a supervisor first before applying for the research based program? If yes, did you secure any supervisor?

You have done the best you could do. Obviously, you read and understood how to package a good application and most importantly, showing inclinations towards your interest, passion and achievements.

In positivism, i look forward to the outcome of your application and in due time, we all will celebrate with you. Feel welcome to send me a PM for your SOP. I'll go through it and revert back to you.

Regards.
Hello @Austinpee4

Firstly, Congratulations on your academic achievements and funding.

From your profile, you have one of the most detailed knowledge of documents to increase your chances of an approval.

More to this is also the fact that your biological father is supporting you financially which makes your back up sponsorship credible and reliable.

I see a good application that suggest good academic progression(being that you recently completed your degree program) that is logically inclined to both your degree and your passion as well. Your start up and a certification in Automation will also speak a lot about this. It appears clear that you are rooted in this field aside just having a degree and this is one thing an officer would look out for. Your home ties are also good enough.

I believe you have submitted a good application there is. Be hopeful and also be positive that it will come out well in the end.

Regards.
Hello @Austinpee4

I really appreciate your kind words of encouragement and support. Thank you.

I have actually been following this thread for a long time. I read the whole of part 12 and 13 and contributed to the thread as well. That's how I went about compiling an application as decent as this (though not perfect).

I hope and pray the visa officer handling my application sees to be as convincing as you see it.

Though I feel I crafted a great SOP, I would be very glad if I could still get your input regarding my SOP as there's always room for improvement.

Thanks again boss!

Regards,

I can look at your SOP. But understand this is a high privilege I do not grant as I am very busy with job and have little time to spare than answering questions here. I am just dishing advice based on another first class applicant that was denied and I met him. There are two schools of thought concerning it. There are people with RA and TA and scholarship full funding from Canadian school that CIC denied as “lacking sufficient funds to pay educational expenses without taking employment in Canada.” There are others too who scaled through with no problem having TA and RA and scholarship full funding. Depends on which VO is looking through your application I guess. Best wishes!
Hello @jnyuwa02

How do I send the SOP to you?

Congrats bro. Since your means of support consists scholarship and TA and RA, you need to really be careful. The advice to get an additional sponsor is a very good one you should take to heart. We have seen many with full funding consisting scholarship, TA and RA denied on the grounds of “lacking sufficient funds without taking employment in Canada.” Also, work on showing tangible employment prospect in Nigeria that would induce your return. Your small scale photography for example, do you have a history of business transaction, CAC certificate, tax clearance? It would make it easily beleivable the claim that you would come back to Nigeria to be an entrepreneur. What made you want to become an educator? Do you have a history of been involved in educational causes in Nigeria? You need to cover these grounds!! Best wishes bro!!
Hello Jnyuwa02

Thanks a lot for your well articulated response.

I've covered all the issues you raised in my SOP. If you don't mind, I can send you a copy to review.

Also as regards funding, I think I saw somewhere that CIC doesn't count TA and RA as part of work. They count them as part of your studies. Only Internships, Co-ops and other non study related jobs are counted as work thus requiring additional work permits.

I've also received about $6,900 from my dad in addition to my funding while attaching his employment, retirement and SOA docs

First off, you have a 2:1, VO feels you should be applying for a masters and not a PGC. VO isn't convinced you're genuine since you're probably taking the easy way out to get an admission to a one year program that you probably won't be serious with.

Apply for a business related masters and save yourself the headache.

As regards home ties, you have to prove to the VO how your course will help you achieve your goals in Nigeria. Your family and properties also serve as heroes.

Also beware of providing false employment records as it attracts a 5 year ban

It all boils down to your previous inflow or credit history.

if you've been receiving deposits similar or greater to that amount in the past, its no lump sum
Actually it's an account my sponsor saves money in. There's a deposit of 4 million that has been there since November last year. The 600k came in recently in two bits of 300k each from different people.

So do you think it qualifies as lump sum deposit?

Hi fam,

Thank you for your great work here. Pls I have another question o.

After looking for different schools where I can continue as a graduate student (Master's), all effort has been abortive. Since my GPA is not strong (3.28 or 5).

I told my uncles living in Australia and they told me to go for a diploma or certificate program instead. I have made my research about different schools and I have seen some colleges and universities I can apply to for a diploma degree in GIS.

Please, how visible is this journey I am about to embark on. I want to start applying next week for September resumption.

Also, I want to know about the fees. If the tution fee is $9k is it the exact amount I need to have inside my account or I need to have additional amount of money?

Can I use a cooperative organization I am running as my sponsor?

I will appreciate answers from you all.

Thanks
Hi

First off, I might be wrong be it's almost too late to start applying for September 2018 admission.

Also you're applying for a pgd. Considering your cgpa is a 2:1 (not sure) , you may have difficulty convincing the VO why you chose a diploma instead of a masters. Also the diploma course you're going for, if it's not very similar to your first degree or work experience (if any), you'll have such a hard time convincing the VO and you're inviting refusal based on purpose of visit.

Also if your proposed course is a one year program, that will raise another red flag. You're better off applying for 2 year diploma programs in universities (not colleges)

Then as regards money, you have to show proof of funds for your one year tuition plus a minimum of $10k for living expenses in the first year. If your program is longer than one year, you have to drop evidence of an income source which can sustain your future costs.

Also you're advised to use personal accounts and not cooperative or business accounts. The only way non personal accounts can fly is if your sponsor is the sole signatory of the account. Also if you're stating that the cooperative is your sponsor then you'll have to really convince the VO why they are sponsoring you and what they stand to gain from it.

Hope this helps

URGENT HELP NEEDED!

Hi Guys. It's been a little while I last commented here. I have questions regarding a friend's current situation.

She was recently offered admission into a masters program by the University of Alberta. This admission came with a funding of $21,000 and her tuition is $9,000.

The issue here is that the letter stated that the funding is for the first year. It also stated that funding for the next year is dependent on her satisfactory academic performance and also availability of funding!. That's the tricky part.

If she applies for TRV using full funding as her source of funds, it covers the first year but in the eyes of the VO, there's no guarantee that the second year is covered.

How does she tackle this issue considering that she doesn't in any way have funds or have family members with funds to sponsor her?

Good day to everyone here, Thanks for all the info !!
Please am new in this group but getting along with the information provided, I’m A working class type and I work in a construction company trying to get some fund in order to sponsor myself for my masters program in Canada, I’ll love to get More details on the following

1) can I get a masters program that ll cost me not more than 1m (in Naira) as that was what I already saved from my work proceeds

2) during the masters program, can I fend for myself in terms of getting work to cater for my feeding and accommodation

3) is there any hope of getting better job after the masters program or during the masters program?

Please if all above can be possible I’ll like u to enlighten me more !
Or if you have a relative or friend that is there and ready to help I’m a gentle guy that has no flex for trouble and I promise to remain one!!

Thanks as u wish to help.

Please I don’t mind if I can get job opportunity too over there because Canada is my dream country all long !!
1. I doubt there are masters programs that would require just 1M. Also your living costs alone could be up to 3M.

2. You can get work but it's not guaranteed plus it's not sure you'll get enough to cater for your needs

3. There are chances of getting good jobs after masters If you know what you're doing

what do you mean by official admission, is it by paying the required tuition deposit and send the acceptance form?
I said official admission letter not official admission.

It's a letter from the school offering you admission and stating things like tuition, resumption dates, funding etc.

You need to show it to apply for study permit

I graduated 2012 Electrical Engineering, since then I have not worked in my field.how do I explain that in my SOP cos I do business.
Memorial University
Hi,

There are a lot of possible loop holes in what you're planning to do.

You'll definitely have to give the VO concrete proof that you've been busy since graduation hence your employment history will go against you and you'll be classified inadmissible.

If you borrow the money, you'll have to convincingly explain to the VO why you have a lump sum deposit just prior to your visa application else you'll be getting a definite denial.

If you go ahead to borrow you can return the money immediately after you get your statement of account but the problem I think is that in a case where you're denied visa be it for financial reasons or otherwise and you have already returned the borrowed money, you'll have to borrow again to apply for visa again. Any meticulous VO will notice the trend of lump deposit prior to your first application, a withdrawal after the application and another deposit prior to your second application. That's gonna be a no no leading to another denial.

Think carefully before you do anything.

Cheers
