The recession has gotten to level of what I call "the Survival of the fittest." In situations like this, You can 1. Pay your debts: Trying to pay off a debt could be a burden but it’s even worse if one waits till the recession hits. Debt repayment becomes extra stressful and can bring a lot of financial strain. During a recession, there is an increase in interest rate and banks will have constricted credit limits. So, in order to avoid the stress, make an outline of your payment obligations and make a plan to pay up your debts as quickly as possible 2. Identify your monthly expenses: In a recession, there’s usually tight cash flow. People tend to watch their spending and avoid taking risks with money. Categorise and track your monthly expenditures by outlining the amount of money you spend on eating out, recharge cards, extra-curricular activities and luxury items. If you spend a large chunk of money on eating out, maybe consider making your meals at home. Prepare to stick to basic and essential items only during this period. 3. Plan a budget and save: Now Is the time to have a strict saving and budgeting routine. Although there is the universal 50/20/30 rule, which means you should allocate 50 percent of your income for essentials (like housing and food), 20 percent as savings and the remaining 30 percent goes into your life style choices. Therefore, a more appropriate approach to surviving an economic downturn would be to divide your monthly income using the 50/30/20 rule, where you save 30 percent of your income. That way you can have enough to fall back on in the case of an emergency. 4. Boost your income Aside from your regular 8-to-5: It is time to take on a part-time jobs in order to boost your income. You can decide to monetize your hobby (some of which may be tax-free) by working harder on it during your down time or on weekends, that way, you can earn some extra cash. 5. Live within your means: It is time to cut out wastage and extras. Avoid purchasing what you don't need. Try to cut costs in every possible way. These should help you help you during the rainy days. A 28-year old suspect who was arrested by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) for pick-pocketing proved his mettle by stealing N1,200 again inside the Police’s office during an interrogation. The suspect, Deji Ayoola, was nabbed by the patrol team of the squad at Ojodu Berger at the weekend for pick-pocketing a commuter trying to board a commercial vehicle to the Redemption Camp. He had successfully perpetrated the crime before the RRS operatives who sighted him when he was removing the wallet pursued and arrested him Speaking with the victim over the incident, Ayodele Akerele said, “I collected a sum of N14,500 from Automated Teller Machine (ATM) from a bank at Berger on my way to the Redemption Camp. However, I had no inkling that my money had been removed. It was about the time to pay fare that I discovered my wallet had disappeared”. “In fact, I had even forgotten about the money until the following day, when an operative from RRS called me that my wallet was recovered from a suspect when they nabbed him. The Policeman added that they found my mobile number inside my wallet which made it easy for them to call me.I was shocked to hear this because I had already lost hope of recovering the money”, he stated. The suspect who lived at Mowe area of Ogun State, confessed to the crime and blamed devil for it. “I truly removed the wallet from his (victim) pocket before I was arrested by the policemen. They bundled me to their office immediately. It was the devil who pushed me into the act. I pray to God to forgive me”, he pleaded. It was gathered that during his interrogation at the RRS’s headquarters in Alausa, the suspect showed his skill again by stylishly stepping on a N1,200 which fell from a police woman’s pocket while she was removing her cell phone from her pocket. When the money dropped on the floor, rather than draw her attention to the money, he pocketed it. Unknown to him, another suspect had seen him when he was hiding the money and immediately alerted the officer that the money she was looking for was with the suspect. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police, SP Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the incident, said the crime rate in the state has drastically reduced. The suspect has been transferred to the State Environmental Taskforce for prosecution. What do you think should be done to the suspect? #MyPalmchatExperience.

A 31yrs old woman Ifunanya Eme was arrested by the Ajangbadi Police Division of the Lagos State Police Command for dumping her day-old baby by the roadside around 3am on Tuesday, just two hours after her birth. The single mother, who claimed she dropped her baby because she had no means of feeding her, said the decision was made easier because the father of the baby abandoned her and ran away. It was gathered that a passerby alerted the police after hearing the pitiful cries of the baby. The police arrived the scene and took the baby to a nearby hospital for check up, before they initiated an investigation to discover the mother. Their first clue came when some neighbours alerted the Divisional Police Officer, Alim Musa, a Chief Superintendent of Police, about the pool of blood trickling out of a neighbour’s house. When the police got to the residence, the suspect was seen recuperating, while the baby was nowhere to be seen. The police questioned her once they confirmed from the neighbours that she was indeed pregnant. Ms Eme, who works as a sales person in a tricycles shop, admitted to the offence. The suspect, who was paraded at the police command headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, said although she works as a sales person in a shop that sells tricycles, she claimed she had just gotten the job and that the pay wasn’t much. She said, “I gave up my daughter because I had no help and my mother is dead. I don’t even know the whereabouts of her father. “The only thing I know is that he told me he was traveling. Since that day till now, the number he gave me can’t be reached.” What is your take on this, do you think it was necessary to give up on the baby after carrying her for 9 months? What do you think should be done to her? #MyPalmchatExperience. Source Lailablog.com

My name is Kenneth, a 38-year-old man living in Lagos. I got married four years ago to a woman who is 15 years older than me and now, I am regretting that decision which was totally against my parents' and friends' advice. When I got married to Clara, I thought I was doing her a favour because at her age then, because according to her, she had been used and dumped by many men who were only after her money and body, not knowing that I was entering into a slave contract. I met Clara through a friend shortly after she came back from Europe where she had been based for many years. At first, she I did not know she was far older than I was because she is kind of petite, with a very nice body and carriage and could pass for a much younger woman. Initially, I just wanted to have fun, especially dating a sugar mummy but as the relationship waxed stronger, Clara showed me she was not just out for a fling but for a serious affair. She showered me with everything money can buy and even had me resign from my job to manage her business. She bought me a car, rented an apartment for me and placed me on a huge monthly allowance. She treated me like a king and with time, made me discard every other relationship I had. In fact, I could not cope with them any longer since Clara was always there. She could not have enough of me both sexually and otherwise. A year into the affair, Clara told me she wanted us to get married and I accepted, without even thinking what the outcome would be like. When I took her home to meet my parents, my mother, in particular, was aghast when I told her she was much older than me. My father on his part forbade me from getting married to Clara but I insisted that we loved each other and that I was old enough to decide what I wanted. My siblings and friends too, were not comfortable with the idea but I insisted and we went to a court to formalize our marriage. The first six months of the marriage was heaven on earth as my wife tended to my every need and was at my beck and call. But after that period, everything went awry and it clearly dawned on me that I had been trapped by a world-wise woman. Gradually, Clara made me her houseboy, personal assistant, cook, cleaner and intimacy gadget; that is anytime she felt like. I was no longer the husband but the slave to my wife. She collected the car she gave me, stopped my monthly allowance as well as restricted my movements and forbade anyone from visiting me. Then she started having affairs with younger men, even bringing them to the house. The whole thing has been going on like a Nollywood movie, only that it is happening to me. On two occasions that I tried to leave, she would get thugs to trail me to where I hid and beat the hell out of me. The last straw that broke my back was when she got me arrested on trumped up charges of stealing her money and locked me up for more than three weeks. I was only released when she made me sign an undertaking that I would never leave her. I am seriously trapped in here and I need help fast. #MyPalmchatExperience. |
Man relentlessly follows a lady around on a busy commercial road in Enugu, Nigeria, begging on his knees. A man relentlessly followed a lady on a busy commercial road in Enugu, kneeling at several points, begging her inaudibly. While eyewitnesses said the love-struck man was begging the lady to love him, passersby who followed the couple around were heard saying something about forgiveness. The visibly embarrassed lady responded to the man's pleas with a barrage of insults and repeated slaps but the man kept pestering her until passersby were finally able to subdue him which allowed the lady to make her escape. What do you think the man would have done to the lady that made him beg her that much? Can you ever do this to your woman, would you allow the slap if you were in his shoes? #MyPalmchatExperience. My name is Ngozi, 38yrs old. I have 3 kids with my husband whom we live together happily for more than 7yrs. Everything was going fine for us throughout our stay together. All his relatives are not in Nigeria but they send stuffs to us including his first car. Although he is from Ondo state and am from Enugu and his family members love me. Suddenly, he was asked to come over. I thought that would be the begining of my success not knowing it is the beginning of my downfall. He traveled and promised to come for me and the Kids later. After 6months abroad, he stopped sending money to me and the kids. I started selling pure water and fried meat to survive and to send my Kids to school. His mum called and told me to delete all the pictures we took together on all social media platforms and I did hoping that things will change. Now he has changed his line. I can't reach him and his relatives are not picking my calls. My kids are in primary school. My first child is in primary 3 and the 3rd child is almost a year.... (Tears) Please advise me, what should I do? #MyPalmchatExperience. |

Where there is no Doctor, you can treat yourself and save alot. Pimples are blackheads of dirt which sometimes becomes sore and large. Treatment 1. Wash the face twice a day with soap and warm water 2. Sunshine helps clear Pimples. Let the sunlight fall on the affected part of the body. 3. Eat as well as possible, drink alot of water and get enough sleep 4. Before you go to bed, put a mixture of alcohol and with a little sulfur on the face. (10 parts alcohol to 1 part sulfur) For serious cases forming lumps and pocket of pus, if these do not get better with the method already described, tetracycline may help. Take 4 capsules a day for 3 times and then 2 capsules daily. It may be necessary to take 1 or 2 capsules daily for months. Try out this method and get back to me. You can also tell me any health issue you have and a simple remedy would be suggested to you. #MyPalmchatExperience |
Popular Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, says she regrets taking up a case involving a sex worker, identified as Mary, who allegedly abandoned her child, Michael, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba. Henshaw on Wednesday said with the experience, she might not render assistance of such nature in the future. Henshaw’s attention had been drawn to the condition of the mother and child through the social media, while they begged around the Onikan area of Lagos State. Mary was reported to have had four children from different men. Michael, her last child, who she reportedly had for a Malian, was said to have been born with a cancerous growth in the face. His mother was said to have been taking him on begging trips, during which some residents took their pictures. Henshaw said she was tagged on Twitter sometime in March, 2016, and she took interest in the sick child. She said, “I asked people to find both mother and child and after some efforts, they were found at Osborne, Ikoyi. “Later, someone assisted us in getting a bed space for the sick child at LUTH. Both mother and child were admitted.” Henshaw said she reported the case to Project Alert on Violence Against Women, a non-government organisation, which involved the Lagos State Government. Mary was reported to have initially refused to cooperate with the hospital until she was threatened with arrest. Henshaw said the attitude of Michael’s 30-year-old mother prompted a DNA test, which confirmed she was the biological mother of the child. “While at LUTH, we received reports from other mothers in the ward and some nurses that she was aggressive. On April 24, she fought a hospital maid and was sent out of the ward and we had to beg that she should be taken in after she promised to be of good behavior. “We visited her relatives in Irawo, Ikorodu, where we discovered that she had three other children for different men. She left them in the care of her aged mother.” The Nollywood actress said on June 9, 2016, Mary walked out of the hospital and left her baby behind. Henshaw said she called the social welfare department and Mary’s family for a meeting where it was agreed that she should not be allowed to stay with the child again. “As the meeting was going on, Mary appeared. She looked very dirty. The social welfare workers instructed that she shouldn’t be allowed into the ward,” she added. She explained that after a series of medications, Michael was removed from LUTH due to a strike action which affected workers at the hospital. Our correspondent learnt that the child was taken to Project Alert where her grandmother started taking care of him. Henshaw, however, said she regretted getting involved due to the distrust of Mary’s family over the care of the child and the management of the fund gathered for the baby, which she said was not in her care. She said, “A little part of me regrets; even though the Bible says we should not be tired of doing good. The family is giving us problems; but we are committed to the health and medical care of Baby Michael. “With my experience, there is going to be a lethargic, tired attitude of celebrities when they are called to cases like this in the future. They may donate, but for someone like me to come out and say before the camera that ‘I, Kate Henshaw…’ It’s not happening again.” Mary’s sister, Syndi, however, said although the family appreciated Henshaw’s efforts, it was not impressed, saying there was no proper communication. She explained that Mary ran from LUTH because she was always harassed by the social workers. Syndi said she was ready to take custody of the baby, leaving the NGO and Henshaw to take care of the medical bills. She said, “My family is comfortable and I send N20,000 to my mother every month; we are not begging. Even the baby, before the encounter, was being treated at a general hospital. “I was surprised when I heard that my sister and the baby were begging on the street. I was sad. “When my sister was at the hospital, she complained that she was always harassed by the social workers, who sometimes also abused her. She also complained that she was getting N3,600 every week, which was too small. It was like she was in a cage. “She left on that day because she had not been feeding well. She told me that she would not go there again because of the harassment. My mother, who took over from her, was also not well fed. “I am capable of taking care of Michael and I will do that. If you are still interested in taking care of the baby’s medical care, no problem.” The Director of Project Alert, Mrs. Josephine Effah-Chukwuma, commended the public for raising funds for the care of the baby, adding that spending on the child was well documented. She explained that the baby would be released to Syndi, while the organisation would shoulder the responsibility for the treatment of the baby. “The road to full recovery is a long one for Baby Michael. At his last hospital appointment on Thursday, July 21, the doctor said surgery was not the way out, but a continued administration of his drugs – Propranol and Nylol gel. We were told that the benign tumour on his face will gradually compress and shrink, but it will take a long process. We are committed to his full recovery. “However, the social welfare issues surrounding his mother, circumstances of birth, family and care for him in general are huge,” she said. Hmmmm, friends on Palmchat wish baby Micheal a quick recovery. Do you think Micheal's mother will not rubbish Kate's image with her attitude later?

My Palmchat friend told me that Nigeria’s Olympic football squad might lose in the match today as they are stuck in Atlanta because of a problem with the payment for a flight to Rio. The delay means the men’s team are expected to arrive in Brazil late for their opening match. “The money paid by the (sports) ministry for the charter flight did not hit the airline’s account on Tuesday so they refused to fly the team to Brazil,” a source close to the Nigeria Football Federation said. They play Japan on Friday. The problems seem to have happened due to the money having to go through different bank accounts and currency conversions. “It is a cumbersome exercise but they should have started the process much earlier, which the NFF was pointing out. This issue has nothing to do with the NFF,” the source disclosed He added that everyone in the NFF was “disturbed” by the situation because Nigeria’s first game against Japan in Manaus is so soon several players in the party, said they do not yet know when they will be travelling. One of the players said, “We’ve been told to get ready to fly out in few hours but that’s been the story since last week.” Nigeria, who are in Group B of the Rio Games alongside Sweden, Colombia and Japan, boast a proud Olympic record. In 1996, they became the first African and non-European or South American team to win the gold medal. They also finished runners-up at the 2008 Beijing Olympics under Samson Siasia. Do you think this late arrival might affect the match today? |
First seen on Palmchat. He lives in us forever and continues to guide and protect us,” Yeni Kuti, who uploaded a photo of her late dad on Instagram wrote. “That is why Nigeria didn’t go to war against all predictions. Rest in peace Fela. We miss you.” Seun, on the other hand, used the occasion to call on Nigerian youths to learn lessons from the late music icon and honour the country’s heroes. Hey give your own opinion. What would you remember Fela for and why? |
The naira tumbled from 382 to 390 against the dollar at the parallel market on Wednesday as the scarcity of foreign exchange worsened. The local currency has been under persistent pressure against the greenback owing to dollar scarcity at both the interbank foreign exchange market and the black market. The shortage of forex at the interbank market, owing largely to scanty intervention by the Central Bank of Nigeria after the total floating of the naira, has led to gradual and continued depreciation of the currency at both markets. “If the naira continues to fall against the dollar at the parallel market, it means the inflation and the contraction in economic growth we are experiencing now will worsen,” the Chief Executive Officer, Cowry Asset Management Limited, Mr. Johnson Chuwkwu, said. He added, “Our capacity to defend the naira is getting weaker and weaker. And like I have said before, we need a budget support facility of say at least $10bn from the International Monetary Fund to stabilise the currency. We will need this to calm the market and foreign investors will have the assurance to come in. If Naira continues to fall, How will it affect you and your home? My friends on Palmchat said people will weep, is this true? |
My name is Abiola, am from a polygamous home. My mother is late and am the last born from my mum. After my mother's death, my father married again and his wife is in her late 20s. My elder brother is an engineer and he works with Mikano. My step mother came in and has been on my brother's neck for love. She married my father because of wealth and found out that my brother who is her own stepson is richer according to what my brother told me, she is ready to be the mother of his children and this has kept my brother away from us. He does not come to the house to visit us anymore. He prefers to call me on phone or make me come to his house or send money to my account rather that coming to the house. This woman does not have a child for my father yet. Should I just confront her or relate everything to my father so that he will know what is going on and why his son has stayed away from us. Do you think she can go to any length to get my brother? We are just two and I just finished from the university. (Abiola is a friend of mine on Palmchat, please help me advise her, thanks). |
Drama in the Nigeria House of Reps as Jibrin reveals that Dogara gave $25,000 to each Rep, hmmmm, will Nigeria ever be free from corruption? Hmmmmmm, for me, I know all of them are in the same carcors so my Palmchat friends said no point for Jibrin or Dogara to defend themselves. A former Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Mr. Abdulmumin Jibrin, on Wednesday alleged that the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, handed out $25,000 to lawmakers so that they could pass a vote of confidence on the speaker. Jibrin claimed that Dogara opened a register at his Asokoro guest house where each member who signed was handed the cash. Last week, he made a similar allegation against nine members of the House Committee on Appropriation, who disowned him. In the case of the appropriation committee lawmakers, Jibrin alleged that they took a bribe of $20,000 each. Among those who disowned him were his former Deputy, Mr. Chris Azubuogu, who is still the deputy chairman of the committee. The members all denied the allegation. In the latest allegation, the former chairman claimed that the Chairman, House Committee on Basic Education, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, coordinated the disbursement of the cash to lawmakers. He said Mohammed was assisted by the Chairman, Committee on Interior, Mr. Adams Jagaba, and the Deputy Chief of Staff to the speaker, Mr. Cyril Maduabum. Jibrin, in a series of tweets on Wednesday, said he was ready for the investigation into his “budget padding” allegations against Dogara by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission and the police. He denied that he was not being sponsored by external forces to destabilise the House. Jibrin tweeted, “Fellow Nigerians, in a desperate attempt, corrupt Speaker Dogara and the three others have opened a register for a vote of confidence signature. “The register is opened at his Asokoro guest house located at Wilberforce Juta Crescent. Hon. members are given $25,000 to sign. “This disgraceful act is coordinated by Hon. Zakari Mohammed, Hon. Jagaba Adams Jagaba and DCoS to Mr. Speaker, Hon. CID Maduabum.” “Investigation by anti-graft agencies is already on and I pledge to support the investigation and prosecution of these corrupt public officers. “I am also obliged to respond to some allegations that I am sponsored by some external forces to destabilise the House of Representatives.” “No external forces in this matter; if there are any, they deserve commendation for sponsoring a struggle to wipe out corruption in the House.” Jibrin added that he expected the four officers to resort to religious “blackmail” against him soon. Reacting, Dogara’s deputy chief of staff, Maduabum, dismissed Jibrin’s latest allegation, saying that it was beginning to follow a pattern. He stated, “The disgraced Hon. Abdulmumin has once again accused me of being involved in coordinating the distribution of $25,000 to various members in the House of Representatives Zonal Caucus in order to support the Hon. Speaker, Rt. Hon. Dogara Yakubu. “It is true that he loves mentioning my name, but is he so unintelligent not to notice a pattern. Hon. (Nkem) Abonta disagrees with him on national television, he immediately adds his name in a petition to the EFCC; Hon. (Adams) Jagaba grants an interview against him, he adds his name in the charge sheet which he carries about. “The Appropriation Committee members disowned him, he immediately alleges inducement of $20,000; the whole House rises against him, then immediately everyone is given $25,000 USD each. “Can he not see that no one needs to be induced when he is on a one-man riot squad to denigrate all members of the House and pull down the institution of the National Assembly? Maduabum said Dogara was a “democrat” and an “incorruptible Nigerian,” who would not do any of the acts Jibrin accused him of committing. However, Mohammed, a former Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs in the 7th Assembly, denied Jibrin’s $25,000 allegation. Mohammed also described the allegation as “cheap blackmail” and another “tales by moonlight.” He stated, “I want to state that the accusation is not only untrue but it is another tales by moonlight to hoodwink Nigerians to malign my image. “Fellow countrymen, please disregard this cheap blackmail aimed at playing to the gallery. I challenge Mr. Jibrin to name at least 10 members or less, who benefited from the bribe. “My advice to Mr. Jibrin is that he should stop the mud-slinging of my person and concentrate on licking his self-inflicted wounds.” Meanwhile, the secretariat of the appropriation committee remained shut on Wednesday, the fifth day running. The Department of State Services operatives still guarded the office, denying members of staff access into the place. |
