SOME FACTS ABOUT THE DEATH AND BURIAL OF SIR WILLIAMS ALEXANDER SMITH.

THE FOUNDER OF THE BOYS BRIGADE

1. Seven thousand (7,000) Boys of the Glasgow Battalion lined up to his grave and Four thousand (4,000) Boys were in the Church (St. Paul Cathedral).

2. Eight ( Staff Sergeant carried the Coffin of Sir Williams .A. Smith

3. He died on Sunday 10thMay in St. Bartholomew's Hospital, barely sixty years of age.

4. He was buried at the Western Necropolis

5. All the Boys of the 1st Glasgow Company (his company) filed pass the open grave singing hymn and casting each a white flower into the grave.

6. The Church Lads' Brigade, The London Diocesan Church Lads' Brigade, The Catholic
Boys' Brigade, The Jewish Lads' Brigade, The Boys' Life Brigade, and The Boy Scouts
under their chief, Sir Robert Baden-Powell.

7. The BB Hymn "Onward Christian Soldiers", " Abide in me" and last Post was played.

8. Thousands of men, women and children came pay their tributes to a loving man, devoted Christian gentleman, a steady eye man with a strong grip on hand.

9. Barely three months after his death, World War I broke on the Western world on August 4th 1914, and things were never the same again......

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BOYS' BRIGADE

On the 4th October 1883, The Boys' Brigade was founded by Sir Williams Alexander Smith, an Army officer in Glasgow Scotland as the first Company.
Having its Motto as SURE AND STEADFAST (Hebrews 6:19)....
The organization is the first uniform church agency in the world which started with 28 Boys and 3 officers including the founder.
Millions of members of the organization are all over the world and currently in Nigeria, there are more than 300,000 Boys and officers across the State Councils including FCT Council.

The International headquarters of the Boys' Brigade is located at Felden Lodge, London, while that of the Nigeria is situated at Lugbe, FCT Abuja.

On the 4th of October, 2019, the organization celebrated its 136th Year's Anniversary and 111th year in Nigeria.
Different activities and colourful performance across the state, from the Battalion level to the Company were carried out. It was garnished with skills in parade, carnivals, drum major performance amongst others.

The Boys' Brigade is an international interdenominational, voluntary uniform church organization that train Boys to become discipline, reliable citizens of one's country.

These celebration took place across Nigeria in Lagos State Council, FCT Council (Nyanya Battalion Council), Ebonyi State Council (Ikwo Battalion Council), Nasarawa State Council (Keffi Battalion Council, Akwanga Battalion Council), Adamawa State Council, Rivers State Council amongst others.
