PoliticsRe: Igbo: A People In Search Of A Leader: Further Commentary by Leonidis: 11:30pm On Jun 03, 2010
Who is the 'leader' of the Yoruba people right now? Anyone you can clearly point to? No.

Yet, the Yoruba still manage to retain relevance in national politics, while at the same time being the source of one of the most credible opposition forces to the federal ruling party.

if the Delta states could agitate themselves into the second position/first, without being a single tribe, why can't the Igbo do the same? To say this is simply a leadership problem misses the point - it is far more complicated than that.

who cares if its insulting? the issue should be weather the claim is valid or not. the truth hurts and if we sorely decide to speak based on people's feelings then not much truth will be said in the world today.
So it is now 'truth' that the 'super eagles are good for your inbox'?  huh How daft. If you don’t care, others do - again, this isn’t about you.

the writer made his assertion based on fact being that email scams are sent every year. did you not do logic?
Kindly explain how your idiotic logic extends to the super eagles being good for your inbox.

you havent shown me how irrational the writers claims are. i already gave you instance of how football affected a situation in ivory coast. its well evident even in the streets that wen the eagles play everywhere is deserted and everyone glued to the screen. so, is it out of this world for one to say success in the world cup will distract scammers?
From saying no claim was made, you are now saying it is not 'out of this world'? Are you now fighting the multiple voices in your head?

can you prove that success in the world cup wouldnt distract scammers even if it only lasts while the eagles are playing ?
I didn't make any claim, so the burden of proof lies with the writer - again, simple logic would lead you to that obvious conclusion yet you fail woefully.  sad

its obvious your grouse isnt with the rationality or truth in this statement rather coz you feel it ''insults'' you. . . .bad news, its a free world and people arent obliged to respect your feelings.
My grouse is clearly with the rationality - saying 'super eagles are good for your inbox' is irrational, non-factual and highly idiotic. If anything, the world cup creates an opportunity for more football related scam emails to be circulated.

So that in your opinion constitutes ''generalization''?? check you dictionary and come back to me. i ask for quotes pointing to generalizations and you're barking about phantom ''neutrals''?
The basis of an article is to create an impression in the minds of the readers, so YES you dimwit, the focus of the complaint is the impression it will give those reading it.

like i've showed you above, the claim is not without basis and will hold water in any court of law as rational.
You have shown nothing - besides, as anyone with intelligence levels above that of an infant would know, events like the world cup INCREASE spam and fraud emails.

the writer clearly used the noun ''NIGERIAN FRAUDSTERS'', any so called ''neutral'' who takes that to mean ''NIGERIANS'' isn't a neutral at all in the first place and should be classified as a fool. . .so, i'm sorry to say, you have no point
I’m sorry to say you have little understanding of audience perception. Negative connotations are very quickly formed by association.

Yes, it a valid assertion with basis, true or not, time will tell. . .i await you to debunk it logically and stop ejac.ula.ting in an emotional frenzy because you feel ''offended''.
The logic is clear for all to see, except yourself; but let me humour you:

“Historically, any large-scale sporting event has shown an increase in all kinds of cyber threats. Phishing attacks increased by 66% (worldwide) during the Beijing Olympics in 2008.” said Symantec analyst Paul Wood.

http://www.scam-detectives.co.uk/blog/2010/02/15/world-cup-2010-an-opportunity-for-cyber-criminals/

i say again, this is just wasted effort. . . if this same energy and zeal is directed towards tackling the root cause of these problems and confronting those responsible then we wont see foreigners using us as butt jokes, and even if they do, we can raise our heads high and call them to order as then it'll be an outright lie but as at now, they hv spoken nothing but truth.
There are numerous threads and emails that have been thrown at the Nigerian government. Secondly, there is NO TRUTH in the claim that ‘the super eagles are good for your inbox’. If you fail to see that, you are nothing but a deluded twit.

This is becoming embarrassing. . havent i asked you noise makers to provide me a quote in the article that says ALL NIGERIANS ARE FRAUDSTERS. . .why is that so hard for you? or is it all about making baseless claims?
What is embarrassing is that although you've stopped breastfeeding (I hope) you still need things to be completely spelt out for you before you can consume it. There is nothing baseless about the claims, the issue lies with your limited reasoning ability. If you cannot make logical deductions, then ask for a refund from the educational institutions you attended - that is not my problem.

And email scamming nigerian fraudsters are fiction, right? the writer just invented them outta the blue. . thank u!
Again you are displaying idiocy - support Nigeria to reduce scam emails? Is that fact to you? Is it a 'fact' that the super eagles are 'good for your inbox'?

firstly, the writer MADE NO CLAIMS. he stated each year, nigerian fraudsters send millions of email- THIS IS FACT!
then went on to say He hopes they (super eagles)succeed MAYBE it'll distract them(fraudsters) awhile.
You must lack even the most basic comprehension skills if you don't recognise 'the super eagles are good for your inbox' as an insulting assertion or claim. Scratch that, it's moronic.  I suggest you take your own advice and brush up on your education. The words 'maybe' and 'hope' was never used, so maybe you should learn how to read again as well.

pls provide me a quote from the article that makes ''generalizations'' and dont forget to include the dictionary meaning of the word coz it seems you dont even know what it means
The generalisation lies in the way the article will be perceived - refer to my previous post. To take something neutral and intentionally colour it negatively with a baseless assertion that 'the super eagles are good for your inbox' is unacceptable and will colour a neutral observer's opinion of Nigeria.

if I say ''Each year colombian drug gangs murder 500 people'', it automatically means ''ALL COLOMBIANS ARE DRUG LORDS''. . . .geez u guys are indeed idiots.
Again, do nigerian fraudsters not send millions of scam mails each year? is that not FACT huh huh huhor u dont know the meaning of the word ''non-factual''?
You are dumber than you appeared initially - is 'the super eagles are good for your inbox' factual? A yes or no will suffice. No one is denying the scam emails, it is the idiotic linkage to the super eagles that is offensive.

I think its you fools who should emigrate to North korea. . . there is freedom of press in the free world and any journalist can write and hope whateva he likes in his articles as long as it stems from the truth. so stop crying
The article has been removed due to opposition to it. The aim of this thread has been achieved. You need to stop blowing meaningless hot air and learn to separate your obsessions from the matter being discussed. If you want to go on repeating the same thing like a babbling idiot, keep exercising your freedom to do so.

where is it written in stone that articles relating to football cannot be satirical or discuss other issues relating to the country? is it now a crime tom use sport to highlight socio-political happenings in the country?
There is no crime involved, but when an ill-conceived comment is used to portray an entire population in bad light then it is unacceptable.

did you not see reports on Beijing olympics and chinese human rights and societal developments? south africa, the world cup and crime, racial tensions and xenophobic attacks all disscussed in the same article?
Those are factual reports, not a silly reporter's attempt to be 'funny' by claiming world cup will reduce scam emails. There is no fact or reportage behind the silly claim on the profile page, so those articles you mentioned are completely different from the one being discussed here.

anyone who opines that sport articles must talk only about sport is a drunkard.
No one opined as such, what is being pointed out that 'talking' about other issues should not descend into daft generalisations not based on any evidence.

i'm tired of all these baseless rants, no where in the write up did the writer refer to All nigerians as fraudsters. where you lot inferred that from is beyond meThe offensive comments have been removed then whathuhhuh huh huh suddenly Nigeria is now a better place, right? huh go sleep jare
You've displayed abysmal reasoning ability so I understand why it is beyond you - anyone with a neutral/no impression of Nigerians will instantly take away a negative impression of Nigerians as scam artists if he/she reads such a statement. Again, you are preoccupied with making Nigeria a better place - go deal with that issue elsewhere and don't get that confused with an attempt to correct misrepresentation.

Harping on about 'making Nigeria better' when the issue is not about that makes you sound like you have an attention deficit problem - focus on the issue at hand and leave your soap box at home. Surely such a simple distinction between a governance issue in Nigeria and non-factual portrayal in the press can be achieved by you, even in light of your severely impaired reasoning faculties?

There is a dictionary DEFINITION of cowardice isnt there? so sorry, we dont need new definitions****yawwwwwwnssss****
Then shut up and stop trying to provide one. Protesting a defaming article while protesting (or not protesting) issues of governance cannot serve as a definition of cowardice.

individuals who are on the internet shouting how they wont stand for injustice, bla bla bla bla.

let them take their noise to abuja(the real cause of the problem) and stop their faceless rantings.
Again, go to North Korea if you want to dictate to people. Each individual is free to protest what he/she deems fit. If you don't like it or can't stand it, move along or stick a couple of toothpicks in your beady eyes. grin
SportsRe: Nairalanders Overcome Biased Online reporting on Nigeria !! by Leonidis: 11:02am On Jun 03, 2010
Tudor's line of reasoning is fatally flawed. There is no connection between emails allegedly emanating from Nigeria and Nigerian team at the world cup - that is the focus of this issue. By that token. the comment on the BBC profile was distasteful and tried to paint majority of Nigerians as fraudulent. That is defamation at the very least and a crass generalisation. It is the duty of anyone who feels offended by such a statement to complain and get reprieve.

Regardless of the 'grammar' or language used by akinmed, it achieved the desired intent of getting the offensive comments removed.

The fact that an individual does not march to Abuja does not render him/her a coward - it is the individual's prerogative to air his displeasure as he deems fit. Neither you Tudor, nor anyone else has a right to define what would constitute cowardice or not.

The validity of this particular grouse is not dependent on any other perceived wrongs of the Nigerian government. If you feel a need to be a 'real champion' then go protest in Abuja or wherever you please - it is not for you to determine what individuals should do or not do. If you are inclined to exercise such control, I'd suggest you join the armed forces or emigrate to North Korea to become the next 'Great Leader'.  grin

staged by police or civilian.if by police,it aint never gonna happen.if by civilian, how do you account for the 2 ak-47 since civilians are not permitted for such calibre of arms
You're being a tad hasty my friend. You cannot definitively tell if the weapons in that picture are actual fire arms or just studio props. You can't even tell for sure if the individual apparently chasing another one is actually a police officer: no insignia, id number or anything else is visible.

If it was staged for a movie, rest assured that Ak-47 props, a black shirt, tie and beret can be easily sourced.

While I suspect the picture was staged, the surprise on the faces of the onlookers appears genuine. But then again, who would see a trigger happy policeman with two guns and not take to his heels?
PoliticsRe: Some Of Nigerian Police Now Use Two Guns At A Time Reasons Still Unknown? by Leonidis: 9:27am On Jun 03, 2010
The picture appears staged to me - how was the individual so well placed to capture this moment or was he just lucky?

Most likely out of a movie/TV production.

All those reports have more or less emanated from the same PM News article, which (going by the antecedents of the newspaper) should be taken with a truckload of salt.

While there might be (some) truth in the article, the integrity of the carrier (PM News) doesn't fill me with confidence.

What do you guys think about Walcott's exclusion from the England team?

I think it is a bit odd to say the least. If it were based on performances for England, over the past year Walcott has been better than SWP, yet Shaun gets to go. To make matters worse, the player who kicked SWP out of the starting team at Man City was left at home?

Theo needs to improve his game and bring better end product, but I think he should have gone. I suspect the Arsenal coach will be glad to have one less player coming back tired and maybe injured from the world cup. He can drown his sorrows with Nasri and Arshavin in their plush apartments.
Christianity EtcRe: RCCG Pastors Have Started Implementing The Dress Code? by Leonidis: 9:31pm On Jun 01, 2010
Shocking, but then again, this is PM NEWS. I'd take such reports with a pinch of salt.

Are they implying that you can wear those things outside of church? Isn't that encouraging some kind of hypocrisy?

Is there an award on this forum for using the highest number of meaningless words in a single post? I've been on other forums but I don't see this type of aimless grammatical constructions

Of what benefit is such 'by force' usage of big words that fails the simple test of making sense? This is surely a sign of low self esteem or a person trying to cover a mental/social deficiency with supposedly impressive words.
PoliticsRe: Fg To Sack 50,000 Workers •plans After Service Training For Those To Be Affected by Leonidis: 8:19pm On Jun 01, 2010
This is highly unfortunate. It appears wage increases for the rank and file of workers is inevitably followed by large job losses.

Why not find a way for a modest increase while keeping majority of the workforce? There is little capacity outside the public sector to absorb these workers and I doubt the 'after service training' will amount to much apart from lining the pockets of those who get the contracts.

While the wages might not be sufficient, a small wage is likely better than no wage.

Sagamite:
Anichebe was becoming a big name until injury kicked in at the end of last year. He has kind of got back into the first team since returning from injury.

He played quite well against Saudi. He has always been committed to Nigeria and has a dedicated mentality on the pitch.

That cannot be said for Utaka and Obasi especially.

Utaka's touch and football brain that I have seen of recent is pathetic. Obasi, really does not play more than 15 minutes in a game before you wonder if he is still on the pitch.
Big name? I don't think so - he had more than one falling out with Moyes. I think he has an attitude problem and isn't quite as big a player as he thinks.  Besides, just one goal from 8 league appearances isn't impressive at all.

Obasi has a better goal return for his club, and as for Utaka, that appears to be an odd choice. Dunno how he's performed in training.
SportsRe: From London: Official Super Eagle Team List by Leonidis: 4:51pm On May 31, 2010
Why all the outcry over Anichebe? He was hardly a ball of fire in Everton - youngsters like Rodwell and Gosling were far more effective than he was.

Yak is a proven goalscorer who has delivered for the Eagles, so I don't see the issue here.

I'm a bit sad Ike Uche didn't make it, I'd personally have picked him over Utaka. But then again with his injury, Lars has the final say and must be trusted to act based on what he's seen in training
PoliticsRe: Ogun State Government May Go Bankrupt? by Leonidis: 9:21pm On May 30, 2010
I recall this same administration has pursued bonds worth billions in the past - the first question should be verification of the usefulness/otherwise of the previous bond issue.

Asking for a 60b bond less than a year before exit looks suspicious - such a seemingly large expense should've been foreseen before the last year of the administration.

It should be thoroughly scrutinized else the next administration might spend all its time blaming OGD's government for their lack of funds to spend.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Fans Thread : Winners of the FA Cup And League Winners 09/10 by Leonidis: 4:13pm On May 27, 2010
Interesting football forum you've got here, with quite divergent opinions.

Ibime:
@ Ako,

Leave that ting abeg. It is perfectly natural to question the longevity of a 30 year old signing. . . . It is the height of intellectual lethargy to grandstand over Milito’s success, when I never questioned his ability to succeed, rather his mileage as a 30 year old. .
Of what importance is mileage to a club seeking the holy grail of the UCL? Bearing in mind this team had won 4 league titles in a row prior to the current season, the issue at this club clearly wasn't one of 'building' for success, but seeking the 'missing ingredient' to take the club over the final hurdle.

In such a situation, it is highly conceivable that a club would 'sacrifice' long term potential (in this special situation) to pay an apparently inflated transfer fee for an older player, if, the player would provide the necessary cutting edge required NOW.

This type of move is commonly seen in successful sides seeking to get the extra lift into further greatness - e.g. Utd buying Berbatov to propel them further, despite their glaring dominance already, and Barca buying Ibra to propel further, or Chelski buying Sheva in an attempt CL success, or Real buying Figo to regain dominance over Barcelona.

It doesn't always work out, but the level at which the aforementioned clubs operate is sufficiently high that such 'one-off' outlandish expenses that appear unwisely short term to others are necessary to bridge the gap at the higher end of the diminishing returns scale.

In simple words, when you are already successful, you can afford to spend extra to get the additional push to get you to your next goal, compared to someone else who is struggling to be successful and might not be able to stomach the downside of such a risk. The former will likely still be relatively successful if the addition 'flops' (e.g. Barca/Ibra, Utd/Berbatov) while the latter cannot boast of the same cushion.

The upside, however, is immortality - the holy grail achieved, the once impossible aspiration now a reality - in essence, it becomes priceless.
PoliticsRe: How Corruption Works In Countries Like The USA! by Leonidis: 3:37pm On May 27, 2010
A bit of a tenuous argument by paddy lo - if indeed the aforementioned - Otedola, Dangote etc, were so confident of the viability of refinery ownership, surely there would be some project under way by now to build one of their own (without the hang ups and deficiencies of the poorly run government ones) with full flexibility on whether to serve the domestic or international market?

Their refusal to put their money into starting their own refineries indicates the intent might not have been to refine, but to secure guaranteed allocations of crude oil to refineries that can be sold on to the highest bidder abroad.

The failure of the privatisation of NITEL is clear warning that privatisation will NOT yield improvements every time and may worsen services in reality.

To say corruption 'works' is a misnomer - systems work in the USA because there are sufficient controls in place to achieve the stated goal with minimal losses. While not every offence or infringement will be captured/punished, in the overwhelming majority of cases, the intent of the activity is to produce/sell/buy/provide services and this will be accomplished.

This should not be mistaken with the prevalent practice in Nigeria where the intent is to steal and carry out corrupt practices, while using the ruse of providing services/goods (which are ultimately unsuitable, substandard or never rendered) as cover for the corrupt activities.

New to the forum, but the funny comments here caught my eye.

* After yet another trophyless season, Arsene Wenger tells Arsenal fans that he has spotted the problems in the side and will regulate them in the transfer market.

* One month after making these comments, and with no one still signed, the apologists begin by claiming that 'Arsene needs to wait for the World Cup to finish' before signing anyone.
Season ends 9th May - Chamakh signs on 21st May a period of 12 days.

Neanderthal level intelligence concludes that this period (12 days) is equivalent to a month?

This Dayo person calling others names smacks of pot calling kettle black or worse. What team does he support?
